(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Timothy Reed Canadian law prohibits Christian public officials from wearing crosses The Supreme Court of Canada began hearings in a case involving religious freedom this week. At issue is Quebec's Bill 21. The secularist law bans public officials from displaying religious symbols. For example, it would bar judges from wearing crosses. The measure has been in place in the Canadian province since 2019 and has survived multiple challenges.   Derek Ross, executive director of the Christian Legal Fellowship, said, “Bill 21 purports to be advancing religious neutrality, but it is promoting the exact opposite: a public square which is hostile, not neutral, toward religion. This is unacceptable.” Canada euthanizes more humans than dogs in shelters Euthanasia continues to skyrocket in Canada. Tragically, more humans than dogs in shelters are being euthanized in the country, and it's not even close.  More than 5% of all deaths in the country are attributed to Medical Assistance in Dying. And it's the fifth leading cause of death in Canada. Doctors regularly offer and push for euthanasia, even for those who are not terminally ill.  Wesley Smith, writing for the National Review, reports that 16,000 Canadians were killed by euthanasia in 2025.   According to the Canadian Veterinary Journal, nearly 7,000 Canadian dogs in shelters are euthanized annually. The New American reports that, “In Ontario alone, 219 people received Medical Assistance in Dying within a day of requesting it in 2023, with 30% dying the same day.” Proverbs 8:35 speaks of wisdom: “For whoever finds me finds life, and obtains favor from the Lord; but he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those who hate me love death.” Canadian young people are more open to Christianity Here's some good news from Canada.  Young people there may be more open to religion, according to a new report supported by the Canadian Bible Society.  Notably, the decline of religiosity among Canadians aged 18-34 appears to be stalling. Young adults are just as likely if not more likely to read a religious text or attend religious services compared to 2017. The study said, “This paper offers Canadian churches reason to believe there is some level of openness among young people to the Christian faith and church attendance.” Maine ballot initiative would ban males from girls' sports In the United States, a Maine ballot initiative is seeking to ban males from competing in girls' sports statewide, reports WBUR. More than 80,000 citizens have signed the petition to keep males out of girls sports, and the effort has been endorsed by United States Senator Susan Collins and Maine's former Governor Paul LePage, both of whom are Republican. Leyland Streiff, the petitioner for Protect Girls Sports in Maine, told FOX News that the organization wanted to leave no margin for error in the petitioning process. STREIFF: “We got 14,000 more than the threshold. The validation, though, is that we need over 67,000 validated signatures. We have already validated over 76,000. “And that is indicative of, I think, how Maine thinks about this. Mainers are common sense people. They understand that males should not be in female spaces. And I think that this is indicative of how the vote will go in November. Anniversary of Patrick Henry's “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech And finally, this week is the anniversary of when Patrick Henry delivered his famous “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech. The American statesman and Founding Father delivered the speech at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia on March 23, 1775. Listen to the conclusion of Patrick Henry's speech in this re-enactment on the 240th anniversary. PATRICK: “It is now already too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable—and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come.” VIRGINIA DELEGATE: “Mr. Henry, we speak for peace, sir!” HENRY: “It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, peace, peace—but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? “What is it that they wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? “Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!” (Read the whole transcript). Patrick Henry's powerful oration is credited with swinging Virginia's convention in support of committing troops in the War for Independence from the British Empire.  Notable delegates who were present at the convention included future U.S. presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. What is less known about Henry's speech is that he gave it shortly after the tragic death of his wife, Sarah. However, from his position of grief, God used Henry in a pivotal moment in the history of America's development. In 2 Corinthians 12:10, The Apostle Paul wrote, “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. Maresa Strano, Director of the Political Reform Program at New America, discusses the role and mechanics of ballot initiatives in the 23 states that allow for citizen-led statewide initiatives. These Initiatives are a tool for direct democracy and are an effective mechanism for achieving political and good governance reform. Once established in a state's constitution, ballot initiative-driven legislation is difficult to restrict, and typically, changes are unpopular with voters. David Brand, housing reporter for WNYC and Gothamist, explains NYC's three ballot proposals on streamlining the housing construction process.

Nine years ago, Union County voters overwhelmingly voted to pass Measure 31-89, which limited county commissioners to two terms, or eight years, in office. A whopping 68% of voters supported the change, which came from Union County Citizens for Good Government. Now, more than eight years after the measure took effect, Union County Commissioners will no longer be limited by term limits. In January, the county commissioners unanimously voted to have the measure brought to the courtroom, requesting the circuit court to examine the constitutionality of the measure. Earlier this month, County Clerk Lisa Feik shared that the court ruled in favor of the commissioners, ending term limits. Union County Commissioner Paul Anderes joins us to share why he and his fellow commissioners voted to bring this measure to the courts. We’ll also hear from Jim Mollerstrom, the former organizer for Union County Citizens for Good Government, to share why he was pushing for this initially and his thoughts on the change.

After the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, and for many years before, Florida served as an abortion access point for many people in the South. But with changing judicial interpretation of “privacy” in the state, access to abortion in Florida has shifted. Laura Goodhue, Executive Director of Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, sits down to talk with us about the status of abortion access in Florida and the outcome of the state ballot initiative in the November 2024 election. After the passage of S.B. 8 in Texas and the overturning of Roe, clinics in the northern area of Florida saw a quadrupled number of patients coming in from out of state seeking care. In May 2024, Florida passed a 6-week abortion ban, which has drastically impacted access for both Floridians and those traveling for abortion care. This year's ballot initiative was aimed at passing a citizen-led Constitutional amendment clarifying that abortion is a decision to be left to a doctor and patient. It passed by 57%; but the current rule in Florida requires a 60% majority vote for the initiative to pass, so it did not go into effect. Washington and Oregon voters have already begun casting their ballots in the November general election. In Washington, the statewide contests include races to elect a new governor and attorney general and four ballot measures, including Initiative 2117.  If approved, it would repeal Washington’s landmark law targeting greenhouse gas emissions, the Climate Commitment Act. The law establishes a cap-and-invest program which requires refineries and other large polluters to purchase allowances equal to the carbon emissions they generate, while phasing out emissions by 95% by 2050. More than $2 billion has been raised since the CCA took effect last January to fund programs ranging from making transit free for youth to expanding EV charging infrastructure.   Let’s Go Washington, the group behind I-2117 and the other state measures on the ballot this year, claims the law creates a “hidden gas tax” for consumers and is to blame for the state’s high gas prices. Let’s Go Washington is largely financed by Brian Heywood, a hedge fund manager who has questioned the wisdom of cutting carbon emissions.  Joining us to debate I-2117 are Washington state Senator Joe Nguyen who represents the 34th District and is chair of the Environment, Energy & Technology Committee, and Todd Myers, Vice president of research at the Washington Policy Center.
