Today's episode features two legends of the Nashville music scene, Joe Glaser and Steve Wariner. Glaser's innovations include a neck plate mounted bender system, 3-pickup Tele-style builds, Plek fret leveling and nut cutting technology, Music City Bridge hardware and tool supply, and running the world-respected Glaser Instruments repair shop in Nashville. Steve Wariner is one of the most acclaimed singer/songwriters & guitarists to ever hit Music City. The 4-time Grammy Winner formed a guitar style using two Glaser Bender-equipped guitars, a Strat-style with beautiful neck inlays, and a red 3-pickup Tele. Both instruments became closely associated with Wariner via the many public appearances, videos, and photos featuring them. Today Joe and Steve discuss the inspiration and creation of these instruments, and how their collaboration helped shape their careers. We also look at Jeff Senn's painstakingly made copy of Steve's red 3-pickup Tele that was made for Wariner to fly with when he wants to leave the original at home.

Joe Glaser pioneered it in the early 80s with the help of test pilots, Brent Mason, Ricky Skaggs, and Steve Wariner. For Mason, it was hot-rodding his 1967 Tele, for Skaggs and Wariner, Joe made the equivalent of formula one racers from the ground up with eye-catching finishes, flame maple necks, the aforementioned middle pickup, and his patented string benders. These were the very first Super Tele's, made to cover a wide variety of tones and get you noticed. Today, we have the rare opportunity to look at a pair of these extremely rare Glaser-built birds and see and hear what makes them so special that they almost never come up for sale.Special thanks to Joe Glaser for his valuable input, and to John Thompson and John Stokes for the use of their Glaser guitars. Stuart Sax shares the following about himself: “My love for broadcast radio began when I was growing up in Chicagoland. One of my favorite radio hosts was Harry Porterfield, who did a regular feature about people in the city. This short segment stayed with me as I grew up and, after realizing a career in live theater was not my calling, I studied broadcasting at Indiana University in the mid-60s. While in college, I was an integral part of the I.U. Student Radio Network. Those were the days of spinning records live and reading the news and lists of where to attend protest rallies. My favorite disc at the time was the extended version of “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” by Iron Butterfly because it ran about 10 minutes. This allowed me enough time to get to the bathroom and back or to take a quick nap. I played that tune at least once every two hours! After college, my radio career was put on hold because I had to report for military duty. While serving in Vietnam, I set up a “pirate” radio station in my battalion to play music, deliver the news and read letters from the troops. If this sounds familiar, it's because I was doing what Adrian Cronauer did, only Cronauer was immortalized in the movie "Good Morning, Vietnam" starring Robin Williams. Upon returning home, my broadcasting dreams took a backseat to a career in the women's fashion retail arena, which was my family‘s business. That was until I retired and moved to Frisco, Texas, to be close to my grandson. Here I met Mark Wariner, the station owner and producer of KVGI radio. I approached Wariner to offer my services to write and record commercials; instead, Wariner, hearing my baritone voice, asked if I would be interested in hosting my own program. Having waited for more than 50 years for an offer like that, I jumped at the chance and said that I would like to do a show called "Someone You Should Know." I then started a second show "Something To Talk About." Later, I brought in DFW Networking Diva Christine Deane as my new producer and I added the new talk shows “Trash Talk” with humorist Brandon Novara and “Opposite Saxes” with my wife Lauren. Who knew that you could have this much fun in retirement??” https://www.stuartsax.com/ Contact Kendra Rinaldi to be a guest or for coaching: https://www.griefgratitudeandthegrayinbetween.com

Hit singer songwriter Steve Wariner reminisces about the early days of his and Phil's success, and they bond over the hilariously humbling moments that came early in their careers. Steve talks about his first days in Nashville as a 17 year old, working with Dottie West, Larry Gatlin, and Chet Atkins - who provided Steve with tons of wonderful experiences and tales to tell. Wariner shares stories of working with Garth Brooks early in the latter's career, and how he knew he would turn into a superstar. Steve tells Phil about the time he got to write with one of his biggest heroes, Merle Haggard, and then performs the song they wrote, “When I Still Mattered To You.”Performances:“'48 Ford” - Steve Wariner“When I Still Mattered To You” - Steve Wariner“Call Me The Breeze” (Lynyrd Skynyrd) - Phil Vassar, Steve WarinerTo stay up to date with Steve Wariner, head on over to https://www.stevewariner.comMore info on Songs From The Cellar & details on how to watch the TV series can be found at https://www.songsfromthecellar.comKeep up with Steve Wariner on Social media at:FacebookInstagramTwitterYouTubeSpotifyFollow Phil Vassar and Songs From The Cellar at:FacebookInstagramTwitterYouTubeSpotifyCheck out more awesome podcasts at:American Songwriter Podcast NetworkAnd go!

Ryan proves that you certainly don’t need to play country to be successful in Nashville. He’s played or toured with Megadeath, Chris Cornell, Gene Simmons, Jewel, Shooter Jennings, Gary Allan, Leann Rimes, Gretchen Wilson and more Ryan dives deep and pulls back the curtain on things like playing with Chris Cornell… the unexpected people who showed up at Shooter Jennings gigs… growing up with a father (Steve Wariner) who’s written 14 #1 hits… loads of geeking out on guitars and Gibson pickups… some very smart wisdom he picked up from a few mentors along the way, and more. In the fall of 2015, Anna LeBaron (author THE POLYGAMIST'S DAUGHTER) sent a Tweet via Twitter to a new author she wanted to support. Unbeknownst to her, the author, Ruth Wariner, was her cousin. She is the daughter of Joel LeBaron, who was killed by his brother Ervil LeBaron's followers in 1972. Anna LeBaron accidentally broke a decades' old silence between their families with a simple Tweet. But after a tenuous introduction through social media, the cousins bridged the gap between their families and Anna offered to help Ruth promote her book, New York Times Bestseller, THE SOUND OF GRAVEL. Mentioned on this episode: Ruth Wariner's Website The Sound of Gravel: A Memoir by Ruth Wariner Anna LeBaron's Website The Polygamist's Daughter: A Memoir by Anna LeBaron
Professional musician Ross Wariner invites Harry to his studio for an episode featuring live music, mall anecdotes, and "Game Burnout."
Steve Wariner was having so much fun putting out instrumental albums that he just didn't think about putting out a non-instrumental project for almost eight years. Fans looking for more incredible songs like "Holes In The Floor of Heaven" and "Two Teardrops" won't be disappointed with the album he put out in September. "It Ain't All Bad" certainly takes a look at the brighter side of life.
Steve Wariner is a busy man these days. In addition to helping out with the CMA Nominations, he's celebrating the release of his latest project "It Ain't All Bad." Steve has written all twelve tracks on the album, which is his first new non-instrumental album in more than eight years. Reviews have been coming in strong, so we caught up with Steve here in town to hear all about the new music.
Bailey brings you the latest country music news including Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Two Foot Fred, Toby Keith, Eric Church, Charley Pride, Patty Loveless, Steve Wariner, Dwight Yoakham, John Michael Montgomery, ReTune Nashville, and the anniversary of the Nashville Floods. We go Inside The Song with Craig Campbell as he talks about his song "Family Man".
The 19th annual Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival is ready to kick off next week. Produced by Nashville Songwriters Association International, the event is the largest songwriter festival in the world. In 2010, over 300 songwriters performed over 70 shows at various venues in and around Nashville. Kelly Lynn caught up with a few of the performers, sponsors and special guests as they announced the lineup for this year’s festival.
Continuing our theme of great stories from 2009…Steve Wariner has been called a lot of things throughout the years, but one of the best names he’s been called was C-G-P. Chet Atkins gave him that nickname as a Certified Guitar Picker. Steve has always looked up to Chet, and the time seemed right for a new album in his honor.
Steve Wariner is pretty excited about his latest album. ‘Steve Wariner…C-G-P, My Tribute to Chet Atkins’ is just that. Steve is just one of a handful of people that have had the C-G-P acronym bestowed upon them from Chet himself, as a Certified Guitar Picker. The new album from Steve is now available through his website, and will hit store shelves Tuesday.
