Did Joseph smith Practice Polygamy? We decided to explore what it would mean if the Polygamy deniers were right… and frankly, if they are right… we have some major problems.Polygamy denialist' “Faith Package”1. Accept the belief JS did not practice plural message.2. Reject, as deceptions, the testimonies of the Church's highest leaders (ERS, ZH, BS, BY, JT, WW, and LS) after 1844 regarding their eyewitness accounts of JS's introduction of the practice of plural marriage. Accept that the Church's highest leaders for 50+ years were deceivers.3. Reject D&C 132 and its teachings, including those describing how JS had authority to create eternal families.4. Reject the temple endowment because nothing concerning it was recorded during Joseph Smith's lifetime. Instead, it represents the 1877 recollection of Joseph Smith's 1843 teachings, recorded by Wilford Woodruff, who also recalled how Joseph practiced plural marriage in 1843.5. Reject President Russell M. Nelson's teachings and the recent post on the Church's website that affirm: “Joseph Smith introduced the practice, not Brigham Young.”Our LinksWebsite: http://thoughtfulfaith.orgInstagram: / thoughtful.faith TikTok: / thoughtful.faith Podcast: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1478749DISCLAIMER: The views expressed in this video are entirely the opinion of the creator and do not necessarily reflect any officially endorsed positions of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or channel sponsors.
This episode examines the moral case against polygamy from a natural law and Eastern Orthodox perspective, then addresses why polygamous practices appear in the Old Testament. Dr. Jacobs distinguishes between biological and psychological dimensions of sexual ethics, critiques Thomistic approaches for neglecting reason's role in human sexuality, and argues that ancient Near Eastern circumstances created conditions where polygamy functioned as a lesser evil tolerated but never endorsed by God. The Eastern patristic framework is presented as recognizing concessions to human weakness while maintaining monogamy as the scriptural ideal from Genesis through the early Church. All the links: Substack: https://nathanajacobs.substack.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thenathanjacobspodcastWebsite: https://www.nathanajacobs.com/X: https://x.com/NathanJacobsPodSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0hSskUtCwDT40uFbqTk3QSApple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-nathan-jacobs-podcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/nathanandrewjacobsAcademia: https://vanderbilt.academia.edu/NathanAJacobs00:00:00 Intro 00:00:25 Recap 00:08:50 Four levels of discourse 00:18:24 Natural law analysis00:27:41 Reason & psychological reality 00:45:39 Orthodox framework 01:04:24 Providence through missteps 01:09:40 Ancient Near East context

In this episode, I invited Britton and Carolee Beckham to share how they moved from six-generation Mormon conditioning to a sovereign, heart-led union. Their story begins with a psilocybin journey that shifted how they saw their church, opening a path through grief into clarity and personal truth. We also sit with the courageous healing that followed repeated infidelity—how they chose to face the pain, tell the truth, and keep listening to love.Together, we unpack what sovereignty really means in partnership, why consent is a living practice, and the difference between hierarchy and healthy power in sacred sexuality spaces. The Beckhams explain their commitment to emotional monogamy while allowing playful social containers, and how deep shadow work, embodiment, and honest agreements helped them rebuild safety, desire, and trust from the inside out.We also explore parenting four kids without shame—normalizing bodies, teaching consent early, and fostering open, curious dialogue at home. Now guiding others through Ritual Shadow Work with astrology and lunar cycles, Britton and Carolee offer a grounded blueprint for choosing love, freedom, and integrity—within yourself and in union.Chapters0:00 - Introduction to Our Guests from Colorado2:30 - Realizing the Desire for a Different Path8:34 - Navigating the Exit from Mormonism13:47 - Historical Context of Polygamy in Mormonism18:17 - Sacred Sexuality and Emotional Intelligence24:35 - Exploring Sexual Sovereignty and Polyamory31:57 - Embarking on a Healing Journey32:36 - Understanding Masculine and Feminine Dynamics33:44 - Balancing Sovereignty and Freedom in Relationships42:26 - Union in Polyamory46:17 - Owning Infidelities and Relationship Growth52:01 - Releasing Judgments for Personal Freedom52:28 - Parenting and Conversations About Sexuality56:02 - A Story of Protection and Awareness in Parenting

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released 3 new Gospel Topics Essays in July. We go through each of them, discuss the information that's missing, chat about the propaganda woven into every line, and speculate as to the impetus behind the new essays. For ease of listening, the Book of Mormon Translation starts at 13:31, the Plural Marriage starts at 1:01:24, and Joseph Smith's Character starts at 1:53:15. Polygamy In Islam:Sister Saffiya by Radio Islam
Film producer Celene Anderson joins Greg to discuss her deep dive research into plural marriage required by a recent film she produced, The Angel. This is not a polygamy advocacy piece; it's an honest, nuanced look at history, women's voices, Doctrine and Covenants Section 132, and why early Saints believed and lived this practice. We tackle common distortions, the difference between eternal and temporal principles, connections to women's rights in early Utah, and how to talk about a topic that makes many believers uneasy—boldly, thoughtfully, and in defense of the faith. Struggle to tell what really matters in CARS passages that feel “straightforward but wordy”? In this Reading Skills Workshop, Jack and Molly walk through the “Polygamy” Jack Westin Daily (Sept 10) sentence by sentence to show you how to extract the thesis fast and avoid over-reading.- Identify the core claim: Traditional polygamy is morally objectionable because it embeds inequality.- Contrast with monogamy: why monogamy can be reformed to equality (power can be redistributed).- Track the two big inequality threads in polygamy:1. Commitment imbalance (central vs. peripheral spouses)2. Control over the wider family (who gets a say across subfamilies)-Use contrast cues (“in contrast,” “unlike”) to flag high-yield sentences.-How to read confidently when ideas repeat without tuning out crucial examples. Before you watch:Read the Sept 10 “Polygamy”: https://jackwestin.com/daily/mcat-practice-passages/cars-practice-passages/polygamy00:01:57 — Paragraph 1: No key arguments - Polygamy controversial 00:06:57 — Paragraph 2: Monogomy can be reformed, Polygamy can't be equal!00:10:50 — Paragraph 3: Marriage should be equal, Monogomy can redistribute power0:15:53 — Paragraph 4: Repetition: Polygamy can't be equal!00:20:10 — Paragraph 5: Using Context: Central vs Peripheral Spouses are unequal00:25:14 — Paragraph 6: Repetition: Polygamy can't be equal! This sermon by Pastor Paul Chapman addresses common objections to the gospel, emphasizing the importance of equipping believers to engage in thoughtful and informed conversations with skeptics and unbelievers. It explores theological themes such as the nature of God, the role of scripture, and the foundation of morality, arguing that these objections often stem from a misunderstanding of biblical principles. Pastor Chapman encourages listeners to become students of the Word, providing resources and guidance for effectively addressing doubts and leading others to faith, ultimately highlighting the transformative power of the gospel and the call to share it with the world. This sermon was preached during a weekly service at Curtis Corner Baptist Church in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Curtis Corner Baptist Church is a vibrant, independent, fundamental Baptist Church located on the southern coast of Rhode Island. Through clear preaching from the King James Bible, consistent personal soul-winning, and a bold stand on holy living, CCBC continues the mission today that began when it was founded in August of 1842. www.CurtisCornerBaptist.com

This week's episode of *Ooooh They Funny* had the crew diving into a wide mix of hot topics and hilarious debates. They kicked things off with the controversy around Snoop Dogg's comments about not wanting to explain same-sex parenting to his grandson during the *Buzz Lightyear* movie — asking if his honesty was really offensive or if people just look for reasons to be outraged. From there, they switched gears into a thought experiment: if society could only keep three inventions from the last 30 years, which ones are essential and which ones could disappear without much impact. The conversation then turned to the taboo of polygamy, exploring whether it could actually work in modern society and how cultural norms shape the way we view relationships. Finally, they wrapped up with a fun but brutally honest breakdown of the most overrated things in life — from hyped-up foods and celebrities to social trends that might not be worth all the buzz.

Joseph Smith, by numerous accounts, practiced polygamy. To state that Brigham Young initiated polygamy, lied and made up D&C Section 132, and invited his buddies in on the secret is beyond the pale. Brian Hales joins Greg in this episode to discuss what one must accept if they believe Brigham Young initiated polygamy and without the direction of the Lord. John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, and Lorenzo Snow, the third, fourth, and fifth presidents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, all would have had to have been liars. Also, the second, third, and fourth Relief Society Presidents all stated that Joseph Smith practiced polygamy. What are the real ramifications of believing that Brigham Young made up polygamy and that everyone was in on the conspiracy? Website- cwicmedia.com

Online discourse has exploded into a debate about whether it's actually best for men and women to have only one spouse. Charlie and Inez Stepman talk about why monogamy isn't just Biblical and moral, but also a superior social technology over more primitive setups. Plus, the Treasury Department's Joe Lavorgna talks about the president's big trade deal with Japan and the importance of an exploding level of capital expenditures here in the United States. In this episode of The Jimmy Rex Show, Jimmy sits down with his good friend Thomas Dockstader — author of The Chi Codes, founder of The Chi Codes company, and a powerful leader inside “We Are The They.” Raised in a strict FLDS polygamist community under Warren Jeffs, Thomas shares the raw details of growing up inside a closed-off religious sect, being indoctrinated daily, and the moment he chose to walk away from it all at just 18 years old. His early life reads like a movie — from wearing pilgrim-style clothes in West Jordan to working grueling construction jobs across the Southwest while hiding his true family story.Thomas opens up about how childhood shame, hidden trauma, and deeply buried beliefs led him down a path of severe alcoholism, multiple marriages, and even a near-suicide attempt on his front lawn. But this story is far from over. He dives into the moments that transformed him — the life-threatening coma from a brutal assault, the pivotal realization that alcohol was only masking deeper pain, and the way transcendental meditation and ayahuasca ceremonies ultimately led him to profound self-acceptance and purpose.Today, Thomas is eight years sober and dedicates his life to helping others break through their own patterns of shame and addiction. He shares how he turned his past into a mission — offering his teachings, free courses, and powerful message of hope to anyone ready to heal. Whether you've faced addiction, struggled with identity, or just want to hear an incredible redemption story, this conversation will hit home and leave you inspired.

In this raw and emotional deep-dive, Laurel shares her powerful story of growing up in an extremely orthodox Mormon household as the youngest of eight children. From uncovering her Danish-Mormon ancestry to dealing with abuse, purity culture, and her father's secret polygamist "revelation" that led to his excommunication, Laurel reflects on how early trauma, sexual repression, and church doctrine shaped her identity. She opens up about her mission to Poland, her battle with anxiety, shame, and identity within the church, and how the toxic dynamics of Mormon Young Single Adult (YSA) culture pushed her to the edge. Ultimately, Laurel's journey of deconstruction—triggered by political events, therapy, and research into church history—leads her to reclaim her sexuality, leave the church, and finally begin to heal.Topics include: abuse, purity culture, sexual trauma, polygamy, depression, and suicidal ideation.
