Rick Howard is an Associate Professor in Applied Sports Science at West Chester University (PA), Sports Performance Coordinator, and Coaching Minor Advisor. Starting at West Chester University in 2014, he is also a visiting professor at Reykhavik University, Iceland and a Fellow of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Previously, Howard served as a teacher at Keilir Health Academy in Iceland from 2015-2023, fitness director at Wilmington Country Club in Philadelphia, PA from 2014-2020 and director of athletics at School District of Philadelphia from 2003-2011.Over the course of his career, Howard has taught K-8 health and physical education, coached middle school sports, and strength and conditioning for middle school, high school, and college. He is a founding member and past Chair of the NSCA Youth Special Interest Group and Chair of the NSCA State Provincial Director Committee, where he was the Mid-Atlantic Region Coordinator. He has been a lead instructor for CSCS exam prep since 2014 and currently sits on the NSCA strongman, special populations, educators and LTAD, Special Interest Group committees in addition to being a liaison to the high school state and provincial director program. Zach Nicoludis, Regional Director, Central Region, joins the podcast to speak on and about the USGA's Green Section and his journey in the turfgrass business along the way. Working on a golf course during high school inspired Zach to pursue a degree in turfgrass science at Penn State University. Olajuwon Ajanaku, the Founder of Eastside Golf grew up in East Atlanta. He gained a golf scholarship to Morehouse College and won a National Championship alongside his co-founder, Earl Cooper. After graduating with a degree in accounting, he worked in Commercial Finance for many years. Olajuwon left the corporate world to fully embark on entrepreneurship that would support his own dream of turning pro in golf. As a result, Eastside Golf was formed. Earl Cooper is a PGA Professional and is currently ranked as one of the best young teachers in America by Golf Digest. He has worked as the first African American golf professional at Detroit Golf Club and Wilmington Country Club. He graduated from Morehouse College where him and Olajuwon played on the golf team and won a National Championship.   Olajuwon and Earl had a number of amazing insights during our conversation. From August 16-21st the PGA Tour's top 70 golfers will find themselves at Wilmington Country Club for the BMW Championship in the penultimate tournament of their quest for the FedEx Cup. We talk with local tournament chair Tom Humphrey about how Wilmington was selected for the tournament by the Western Golf Association, what the PGA Tour is bringing to the course and what New Castle County residents can expect when over 100,000 golf fans descend on Delaware to see the best golfers in the world.
