It was a busy week in the golf world this week and it began with Ben Griffin getting his first solo PGA Tour win at the Colonial Country Club. Griffin was able to hang on down the stretch for a one-stroke victory and crept closer to a possible Ryder Cup spot with the win. It is major week in women's golf as the best players in the world head to Wisconsin and Erin Hills for the U.S. Open. Mike and Tim have played Erin Hills and give a little insight into the golf course. Marc Dull stamped his name into USGA four-ball lore last week when he won a match at the amateur four-ball championship by himself. After his partner had to leave, Dull managed to win a match and then pushed his next match deep into the round until bowing out. The improbability is crazy and we are here to talk about it. We had the PGA Tour changing the tour championship, Charlie Woods with a psycho scorecard, Will Zalatoris with another back injury and the podcast guys discuss the one-man scramble they played in this week on episode 141 of the Break80 Podcast. They debate Griffin's early case for inclusion on this year's American Ryder Cup team and Brendan shares a touching moment from Griffin's post-round presser on Sunday. In news, Rory McIlroy is skipping this week's Memorial Tournament, Will Zalatoris undergoes back surgery, and Lucas Glover presents a conspiracy about driver testing on the PGA Tour.

Will Doctor gives you the sharpest card for the Valspar Championship, plus an outright winner for the Porsche Singapore Classic. -Top 7 on odds board discussion -1 matchup -2 p2p -3 outrights (70/1, 80/1, 110/1) -Sleeper -FRP -2 lineups, scoring, best bet -Porsche Singapore outright For more on the world of golf, follow Doc on X @ drmedia59 The Valspar Championship at Copperhead Course in Innisbrook, Florida, features a competitive field of 25 of the world's top 50 golfers. The tournament is known for its demanding layout, particularly the final stretch, called the Snake Pit, which plays over par and requires precision. Last year's winner, Peter Malnati, took the title at 12 under, while past winners like Taylor Moore and Sam Burns have also thrived under similar conditions. This year's field includes major names like Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, Xander Schauffele, Sepp Straka, Shane Lowry, Corey Conners, and Will Zalatoris, all looking to capture the title. Rory McIlroy enters the tournament fresh off a win at The Players Championship, where he staged a comeback and secured his 28th PGA Tour victory in a three-hole playoff against J.J. Spaun. Key betting insights for the Valspar Championship include outright picks, matchups, and placement bets. Among the favorites, Corey Conners stands out as a strong option for a Top 20 finish (+115, MGM), given his excellent form and consistent iron play. Lucas Glover, a five-time PGA Tour winner, is an attractive outright pick at 70-1, with a history of strong finishes at Copperhead and an improving putter. Taylor Moore, the 2023 Valspar champion, is listed at 80-1 and has found accuracy off the tee again. Ryan Gerard, another dark horse at 110-1, has shown promise in previous tournaments, particularly with his putting. A top sleeper pick is Kaito Onishi, available at 10-1 for a Top 40 finish. Onishi played at Innisbrook during his junior career and could surprise the field. The best matchup bet for this tournament is Bud Cauley over Sam Stevens (-110). Cauley has been showing steady improvement, finishing T-6 at The Players, while Stevens has been struggling with iron play and putting. Another key first-round bet is Chandler Phillips to finish in the Top 10 after Round 1 (+650, MGM). Phillips has been opening tournaments well, including a T-3 finish at last year's Valspar. Fantasy lineups for DraftKings and PGA Tour Fantasy focus on players who excel in ball striking and accuracy, including Corey Conners, Lucas Glover, Taylor Moore, Bud Cauley, Adam Schenk, and Kaito Onishi. These selections are based on recent performance trends and their suitability for the Copperhead Course. In addition to the Valspar Championship, the DP World Tour's Porsche Singapore Classic presents another betting opportunity. Rising Chinese star Ding Winyi, available at 40-1, has recorded four Top 25 finishes in ten DP World Tour starts. At just 20 years old, Winyi has already won the 2024 Asia Pacific Amateur Championship and is quickly establishing himself as a contender. The winning score prediction for the Valspar Championship is 15 under, given favorable weather conditions. The best bet for the event is Lucas Glover to finish in the Top 10 (+320, MGM), as he has a proven record of strong performances at Copperhead and is in excellent form. This preview covers all aspects of the Valspar Championship and Porsche Singapore Classic, from outright winners and sleeper picks to fantasy golf strategies and best bets for the week. Tune in next week for a preview of the Houston Open, where top players, including Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, will compete for another major title. Learn more about your ad choices. The importance of meditation and mental discipline in staying focused under pressure. Get your pencils ready and start listening. P.S. Instagram: @thegolfhypnotherapist Twitter: @parsoverbogeys Key Takeaways: Golf is a Math Game: Like poker, golf is about making the highest percentage decisions over time—not playing emotionally or aggressively. Expect the Inevitable: Bad shots will happen. If you expect them, you'll react logically instead of emotionally. Avoiding Bogeys > Chasing Birdies: The best players focus on limiting mistakes rather than hunting for low-percentage birdie opportunities. Commit Fully to Every Shot: If you don't fully commit to a target, you're adding unnecessary variance to your game. Shape Your Driver One Way: Stop trying to hit both draws and fades off the tee—own one consistent shot shape. Lag Putting is Underrated: The biggest scoring leaks come from poor lag putting. Improve from 20-40 feet to eliminate unnecessary three-putts. Stay Emotionally Detached: The best golfers remain logical under pressure and don't let emotions dictate decisions. Key Quotes: "Golf and poker aren't just similar—they're identical." "Every decision you make is a math-based decision, whether you realize it or not." "If you expect bad shots, you won't react emotionally when they happen." "Trying to force birdies will only lead to higher scores." "Your opponent in golf is the course, and it plays perfect game theory every time." "Winning is more fun than fun is fun—play smarter, not riskier." "The key to golf is not being great—it's making fewer mistakes than everyone else." The never-ending golf news cycle leads to a jam-packed Friday episode as Andy and Brendan unpack a week's worth of stories and rumors heading into the weekend. TGL sent out some team-themed email blasts on Thursday afternoon, so this episode begins with more chatter about the screen golf league and its many marketing campaigns. Brendan and Andy read these team descriptions and discuss how a casual golf viewer might react upon reading that the Atlanta Drive represent the 365/24/7 nature of their city. In outdoor golf news, the Farmers Insurance Open had more withdrawals on Wednesday before play began for the week, with big names such as Will Zalatoris and Gary Woodland bowing out. The tournament is ongoing without a full field despite constant cries about players needing more opportunities to play on the PGA Tour. From there, Brendan and Andy discuss Eamon Lynch's interview with former PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh that was teased on the Wednesday episode earlier this week. First, Waugh is taking credit for Keegan Bradley's appointment as Ryder Cup captain for Bethpage and went into detail about how that choice came to be. Waugh also discussed the new PGA Tour Enterprises corporation and how that's changed the business of golf, wondering if the PGA of America would one day sell the Ryder Cup off. At the PGA Show this week, Adam Schupak sat down with current PGA of America CEO Derek Sprague, who made comments expressing some hesitancy with the proposed rollback starting in 2028. Andy and Brendan discuss what would happen if the rollback was further delayed or even cancelled and how that would impact the game on all levels. In less consequential news about the future of the game, Jordan Spieth committed to the AT&T Pebble Beach, presumably entering via a sponsor exemption, and The Open Championship will return to St Andrews in 2027. PJ chimes in to tell Andy that "Sticks Boy" Noah Kahan is now an investor in the Ballfrogs, which leads the show down a rabbit hole of ranking pop stars. This beefy Friday episode ends with one golf advice email about an upcoming golf trip impacted by a lifelong phobia.
Multiple opportunities for a team win this week at Torrey Pines with a couple of favorite golfers (and one outright favorite) on the cards. SportsGuyTy and ShallowCal discuss the news that we'll see Torrey twice in 2025, and also spend some time lamenting the Lions and a tough playoff loss. As always, tips, picks and best bets for the Farmers Insurance Open.
In episode 70 of the 2 and 1 podcast, Sterling, Madison, and Mike discuss the first episode of 2025, covering the Sentry Former Tournament of Champions, now the Tournament of Guys Who Played Really Well Last Year in the FedEx Cup. They share thoughts on Hideki Matsuyama's impressive performance, Collin Morikawa's continued struggles on Sundays, and Will Zalatoris's supposed weight gain and health status. The team also delves into local issues like recent snowfall in Richmond and ongoing water problems. They shift focus to the much-anticipated launch of the TGL, expressing their reactions and ideas for potential improvements. Andy and Brendan went live on YouTube as the first round of the 2025 PGA Tour season wrapped. With round one of The Sentry (hard stop) over, they share their observations on both the on-course product and the shiny new features that the Tour's new billion dollar studio brought to the broadcast. "Walk and talks" returned in full force, with Peppy Peter getting the honor of the first interview of the season and JT confirming that Kapalua does go uphill. Will Zalatoris bulked up and finished his round at -8, good enough to be one off the lead, and Andy is impressed with his new look and reasoning behind the added weight. Tom Hoge is your leader heading into Friday and Brendan shares that Hawaii has absolutely nowhere for Tommy Tables to gamble tonight in celebration. The two discuss the big "free agent" moves off the offseason, with Max Homa signing with Lululemon and Cobra, and Akshay Bhatia moving to Travis Mathew. These partnerships are "redefining" what it means for brands to work with players and Andy applauds Homa's Thursday performance with so much change going on around him. Before getting into some news, Andy stops to rehash the Cheez It Bowl, won by the Illini, and Bret Bielema trying to fight Shane Beamer. In news, Brendan and Andy discuss Xander saying the US Ryder Cup team will be donating their pay to charity and Jonathan Wall's report that TGL players are toying with new, longer drivers in order to have better results on the giant screen. To wrap, Brendan shares a listener email about a magic show with a possible celebrity appearance.
Matt Cook and Buttsy are joined by Brent Grant in this episode, kicking off with Buttsy's driving range observations in the Tee Off Report. The trio dives into pro golf with a recap and discussion on the Shriners Open. The Swannies Style Segment brings a lively debate on ideal golf outfits and dress codes. Brent provides insights into the ZOZO Championship, including a breakdown and picks. The conversation shifts to Will Zalatoris, golfer injuries, and Aon Next 10 rankings. They also cover LIV Golf updates, player contracts, and the implications of the PGA Tour deal. A look into the future of LIV, TGL, and PGA Tour as separate entities, along with the LIV Golf CEO search, rounds out the episode.

Andy and Brendan are back for a very much *not* Victory Monday episode during the holiday in the States. They discuss the Browns blowout playoff loss, the Packers success, and the Bulls fans booing a widow. They eventually get to Grayson Murray's win at the Sony, but not before first addressing a complete sham of a free drop given to Carl Yuan, who was in contention at the wire. Elsewhere on Sony, Grayson's “redemption”, Ben An and Keegan's finishes, and Will Zalatoris alarm are all discussed. Over in Dubai, they chat about Ken Weyand's exemption and an all-time spread of 72 shots worse than first place. How did he get in the field? Should we feel bad for him? Rory booting away a season-opening win is also covered and if it means anything going forward. They close with news that Caleb Surratt seems like he's going to LIV, Jay Monahan finally has a phone conversation with Yasir, and Webb Simpson delivers some wide-ranging thoughts on the state of negotiations and the PGA Tour board.
Our annual holiday tradition returns with a medley of clips from our 2023 podcasts. Thanks for supporting what we do at No Laying Up, and we hope you enjoy reliving some of our favorite moments from the past year. Guests featured on this episode include: Jon Rahm, Lee Trevino, Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Max Homa, Will Zalatoris, Steph Curry, Lilia Vu, Padraig Harrington, Hunter Mahan and more. It's Friday! And the first of the month! And Brendan's internet is absolutely awful. But Andy and he march on through the spotty connection to get to the weekend with some initial reactions on the first round of the Hero World Challenge. They discuss Tiger's first 18 holes, Will Zalatoris's new broomstick, Collin Morikawa learning how to sit down again, and Spieth's potential “momentum” narrative taking root. Then they get to some more rumors that Jon Rahm may go to LIV, or may have a deal soon. They react to Jay Monahan's comments at the CNBC summit as well and ponder more on where the Tour may be headed in this dark month of December. The field for the LIV qualifying event is also dissected in great detail with appreciation for many favorites and familiar names. They close it out with a Golf Advice on a boss potentially trading a trip to Pebble Beach for … a “Chicago-area” course.
