Local D.C. Sports podcast from two lifelong fans, highlighting the Washington Football Team and Washington Wizards from a fan perspective. We touch on Capitals and Nationals as they make their runs but mainly focus on the two major local teams.
Brent and Dre are back to discuss the huge news that Jahan Dotson has been traded. They break down how they felt immediately after hearing the trade was made and what's next for the WR room. They then discuss what this change means for the offense and Jayden's ceiling this season and how many games this may cost the Commanders if there isn't an outside solution.
Brent and Dre are back after the draft, discussing Peters and Co.'s selections between Thursday and Saturday. They start by discussing the most important pick, Jayden Daniels at number two, and what that means for the franchise's future. Of course, Brent and Dre take opposing stances. Brent believes that selecting Daniels, anything less than a Wildcard Weekend bid, is a failure, while Dre doesn't agree. Then Dre thinks that making the trade with the Eagles was savvy. Brent still thinks that letting Cooper Dejean go to the Eagles will haunt the Commanders for the next decade. To wrap up the two, discuss what all the additions made in the draft and off-season can mean for the roster and give a quick preview of what the Commanders' record could be. The wildcard isn't that far out of the imagination.
Brent and Dre are back after the close of the first week of Free agency, and the Commanders were busy overhauling the roster. They discuss each of the team's signings so far and address the plan for fixing both sides of the ball. Then, they believe Frankie Luvu was the best long-term signing, and Wagner mentors the locker and instills the culture that Dan Quinn has been known for. Afterward, they talked about the masterful trade of Sam Howell to acquire another pick in the top-100 this draft before talking about all of the QBs expected to be taken in the top 3. The consensus pick between the two has switched from Maye to Daniels, but both agree that either one makes the Commanders much better at the position than last year.Could the Commanders become the Texans from last season? Who knows, but Peters improved a team more in three days than Ron Rivera did in four years.
Brent and Dre are back as the Commanders hire Dan Quinn as their new head coach! The roles have flipped, as Brent is okay with this hire and Dre is infuriated by it. While Dre is upset, his frustrations are primarily directed at Ben Johnson for backing out of the deal, while Brent can understand how Johnson could look at the roster and decide he wouldn't want to be part of it. The two get into a heated debate about how much an OC hire matters since Brent is only concerned about roster turnover in the future. It's a lot of frustration in Commander Land right now, but who knows how everything will turn out?
Brent and Dre talk about the Ron Rivera firing earlier today, talk about Bob Myers being about if the committe to bring in a new GM/President of Operations, and then they discuss which of the potential coaching hire intrigues them most. There is a discussions at what the Commander should do at the #2 pick if Williams isn't there and perhaps taking Drake Maye.
Brent and Dre are back to talk about what the Commanders should do with the #3 pick as the team begins to prepare for the season's final two games.Of course, they're both on the opposite side of the conversation surrounding QB. Dre wants to take Jayden Daniels, while Brent wants to forgo QB and address OT with the first-round pick. They discuss whether the buzz surrounding Daniels is real or a flash in the pan that could set the franchise back with the selection. Then they discuss if any QBs will be worth taking next season in the draft before Brent says his plan of trading for Justin Fields and taking a chance with him. It's an interesting take as the Commanders close the season with two tough matchups at home.
Brent and Dre are back after some time away, and the season is beginning to wind down. The Commanders are on a six-game losing streak with the NFC favorite 49ers coming to DC.Brent and Dre are predicting a massacre in DC, but Brent is hoping that the defense can stand up against the 49ers offense. They talk about how Sam Howell looks broken after a disappointing season and that Jacoby Brissett has a hamstring issue that may force Sam to play anyway. The score predictions aren't good as Brent and Dre don't forsee two scores by the Commander offense, no matter who's starting at QB. We're in for another rough game at home...
Brent and Dre are back for the Wizards' check-in, as the team drops nine out of their last ten games. There was some positivity this time as the two commended Kyle Kuzma on his professionalism as the team continued to lose. Then, they critique Jordan Poole's mindset as a default team leader before discussing which players are the building blocks of the future.
Today went about how Brent and Dre expected. Tyreek had huge plays on busted coverages, Ron looked terrible as the defensive playcaller, and that was just how poor the defense was today.Sam and the offense struggled as Sam threw another interception that was returned for a score, the offensive line gave up pressures and sacks, and then B-Rob got injured after showing flashes. This is about what you can expect from this team, and the off-season can't get here sooner.
Brent and Dre are back previewing the Commanders' matchup against the Dolphins on Sunday. And just like the odds, neither thinks this game will be remotely close. Brent and Dre start talking about what to expect from Sam, the offense against a Dolphins defense that is beginning to hit their stride, and getting the pass rush home. Then they talk about who gets the unlucky responsibility of guarding Tyreek Hill on Sunday. Brent and Dre think that Tyreek goes over 200 yards receiving with multiple scores and that the Commanders give up 40+ at home again.
Brent and Dre are back a few days after the Thanksgiving beating to talk about the game, even though there aren't many positives to talk about. Dre starts bashing EB saying that he's not putting Sam or the Wide Reicvers in positions to flourish while Brent believes the offensive line is to blame. Brent still believes that EB may be valuable as a head coach, but Dre thinks EB's refusal to run the ball and adjust to the personnel disqualifies him. Defensively, neither Brent nor Dre felt that there was much to discuss outside the fact that Kam Curl probably doesn't deserve to get paid what he wants from the Commanders and the overall lack of production from Allen and Payne. Then, they discuss the firing of Jack Del-Rio and who actually made the call: Ron or Josh. It's a pretty miserable road either way as the season slowly comes to a close.
The Commanders are heading to Dallas on Thanksgiving, and Brent and Dre believe that Dallas will give the Commanders an ass-kicking on national television! The two discuss how worried they are for Sam Howell against the relentless Cowboys pass rush and how that affects his ability to throw the football. Then, they discuss what to expect from the WR group on Thanksgiving.Defensively, Brent and Dre think that the Cowboys will be able to have their way against our secondary, and Dak will have all day with the Commanders' lack of edge pressure. Finally, they discuss if this game will eventually be the one to earn Ron Rivera his walking papers and if any players on the roster would be safe during the rebuild next off-season.Happy Thanksgiving to all the Battered and Bruised listeners and their families!
Brent and Dre react a few hours after the Commanders get outclassed by the hapless Giants, questions about the strength of the Commanders' rosters are asked. And there are some hard truths to come to grips with after this game.Sam Howell was poor, but Brent thinks the O-line and WRs were worse than he was and the reason why they lost. Dre talks about how bad EB was calling plays, and adjusting with the run game.Defensively the Commanders had nine of the emptiest sacks you'll ever see. Everyone's jobs are in question and that included some of the leaders of our team. This was the worst lost of the last four years.
Brent and Dre are back to check on the last stretch of Wizards basketball, and to no one's surprise, the Wizards are terrible. Dre starts talking about how bad Jordan Poole has looked in the latest stretch, and Brent chimes in on how they give up huge leads and allow the team to close the gap and win down the stretch. Of course, they talk about Rubi Rose's visit to DC and how Poole performed with her in the arena. Brent even wonders if the Wizards could get two seconds for him now. Then they talk about the national perception of the team and who would help Poole when Draymond comes to town and tries to choke him out, too. It's all laughs as the Wizards sprint to a top-3 lottery pick next June!
Brent and Dre are back to pregame the game between the Commanders and the Giants! For once, both Brent and Dre agree that this will be a win for the Commanders as they pick on the Giants, who seem to have given up on the season!Brent and Dre think that the Commanders' defense will underperform during a game that could not only seal Ron's fate but maybe cost some of our top players not to be with the team next year.Offensively, both have high expectations of Sam Howell, even if the wide receiver group has struggled all year. Howell and company have to make up for a poor showing in the Meadowlands earlier in the year, and this is one of the few games that will show growth against a similar unit.
Brent and Dre are live just a few minutes after the game concludes to talk about a loss that didn't feel like on to the Seahawks.Sam Howell showed poise, command of the offense, and a top-10 ceiling against a top passing defense against Woolen and Witherspoon! And Sam did all of this with our top wide receivers missing and looking to Brian Robinson to do the heavy lifting. Brent and Dre were blown away by some of the stuff Sam showed off as he threw for over 300 yards again. On the other side of the ball Brent and Dre weren't surprised at all by the defense that allowed Geno to find his groove in the second half thanks to an non-existent pass rush and carve on the secondary on the way to the win.Brent and Dre talk about whether or not there is another fairytale playoff run that Ron can pull out of his hat, and then give us the 'Chase & Tez' watch before looking at what's next for the Commanders.
Brent and Dre are back to preview the matchup against Seattle, and neither is very optimistic about going up against the 12th man. Both are concerned about how Terry, Jahan, and Co handle the secondary of the Seahawks. Then, on the other side of the ball, Seattle's pass catchers could have a day against Forbes, St. Juste, and Fuller if the pass rush isn't a factor again this week. Geno Smith can be a problem for the Commanders' defense if we play zone. Brent and Dre also note that Seattle could run the ball if they want and are worried about the linebackers after Stevenson gashed them last week.Dre thinks the Commanders can steal a win, but Brent believes that Seattle is a much better team and handles the Commanders. We'll find out who was right on Sunday!
Brent and Dre do a quick podcast before the Wizards take on the 76ers and talk about what they've seen from the team so far.Brent talks about how much of a disappointment Jordan Poole and Daniel Gafford have been at the start of the season. Then Dre talks about how Kyle Kuzma is the fourth-best option on a team that wants to contend for a championship. Dre also points out how inept Wes Unseld Jr has been with the game flow to start the season, but both are happy with what we've seen from the rookie Bilal. This one was quick because it mostly turned into jokes about this team and the direction the team is headed in.
Brent and Dre are back after a Commander's win over the Patriots, and while it's good to celebrate a victory, neither is buying that a trademark Ron Rivera winning streak towards the 7th seed is coming. Both are impressed with Howell's performance against a middle-of-the-pack Patriots pass defense but question whether or not a new regime looks at Howell as the QB of the future.Defensively, as expected, the Commanders looked terrible against a bad Patriots offense, and both talk about the coming weeks for Emmanuel Forbes, who got the start and played well against below-average wide receivers.Brent brings up whether the Commanders can look to move Terry during the offseason for an additional first-rounder, and Dre about targets and free agency and in the draft.
The day that we all knew was coming finally arrived. Brent and Dre react to the Montez Sweat and Chase Young trades and talk about their tenure in DC. Both agree on the Montez deal but then can't agree on whether the Chase Deal was enough value. Things get intense as they discuss the future of the Commander as the Josh Harris era is fully underway and whether or not his method will work long-term.
Brent and Dre are back for a third year, and the Commanders have made a huge off-season signing! Brent and Dre talk about what this means for the Commanders moving forward. They also discuss what the Commanders should do with the QB-X situation, and the possibility of trading for Lamar Jackson or Justin Fields. The two have tough conversations about what to do with the young talent on defense, and talk about possibly trading away Montez Sweat, Kam Curl, or Deron Payne. The end of talking about how good or not the NBA has been this season! We're glad to be back, and have fixed the scheduling issues to make sure we can give you all the coverage you deserve this coming season!
The Commanders win convincingly on the road, but Brent is still unsatisfied. Dre is fine with the overall performance but needs to see the offense perform better as they go into a crucial matchup against the Falcons next week. Brent talks about how boring the game was to watch, with the offense sputtering during stretches of the game and only scoring a single offensive touchdown. But Dre reminds him that Gibson chose to slide down instead of scoring, which would have made the scoreboard look better in the final result. They talk about some of the other matchups during the day, and somehow Brent ends up defending Kirk Cousins... It's a pretty weird day since it's the first time in a long while that the Commanders are over .500 this early in a season.
Brent and Dre start with the news that Heineke is still starting this week and moving forward until his play costs him the starting job. Dre talks about the difference between the two, and Brent makes it known that he can no longer root for losses because the Commanders have won too many games to be in the top QB tank race. Brent and Dre preview the upcoming matchup in Houston, where they both predict victories over the struggling Texans, then look at the current playoff positioning. Dre is a little more optimistic, while Brent feels like if the Commanders don't finish with ten wins making the playoffs is an empty achievement.
Everything that could go the Commanders' way did as they knocked off the last unbeaten team in the NFL, taking down the Eagles at home! For one of the first times all year, Brent and Dre are both happy with a victory. Terry Mclaurin was the Offense's best weapon, and on defense, Derrick Forrest had another great game. It's all laughs as they talk about the win, and Dre compares the victory to Angels in the Outfield. Somehow they get into an argument about Jalen Hurts because Brent still compares him to a 3-down back instead of the quarterback, and Dre won't take that lightly as they break down how well the defense did contain Hurts down the stretch. This was one of the most positive episodes Brent and Dre have had in a long time this late into the season!
They've done it again. Right before another huge Monday Night Football matchup, the Commanders face media backlash for our response to the DC Attorney General's press conference. Brent and Dre discuss what they believe to be Dan's response to the news. Brent believes this is an example of how Dan will drag out the sale of the Commanders and potentially cost the team players like Payne and Kurl. Dre thinks Brent is paranoid, and the NFL will step in to keep such things from happening. They also preview the game against Philly and doubt the game is even competitive. Brent and Dre talk about what they expect from Jalen Hurts, and Devonta Smith could potentially have another big game.
Even though the defense played a good game against the Vikings, the offense continues to struggle. Dre finally calls for Scott Turner's head and is tired of watching Heineke get his passes batted back in his face. They praise St. Juste's effort against Justin Jefferson and then talk about how the Commanders put their winning streak together against the worst of the NFL before falling short at home against a real team. They also check in on the Wizards and Beal, who are still in the middle of the Eastern Conference.
Brent and Dre start with the massive news that Daniel Snyder has reached out to Bank of America to sell the Commanders potentially! While Dre is excited and thinking about making that day a local holiday, Brent wants to temper expectations until the deal is done. After they talk about potential owner possibilities and how much instant credibility it gives the Commanders, they turn their attention to the upcoming matchup against the Vikings. Brent thinks that the line is too, and Dre also believes that this is a loss for the Commanders on Sunday. They finish talking about the Wizards, who were embarrassed Friday night by the Brooklyn Nets, who are dealing with their own inner turmoil. Both believe it is time to ship off parts and rebuild a new roster with Beal and a top-4 draft pick, but that means bottoming out this year.
Ron's winning streak started earlier than usual, and the Commanders are .500 for the first time in eight weeks in the season during Ron's tenure in Washington. Brent and Dre take the win for what it is, and Brent has now concluded that the Commanders refuse to lose games that they should to secure a franchise QB and fix the last piece that we need to be legitimate contenders. Brent and Dre talk about how the offense looked, how scary the comparisons between the Colts and Commanders are right now, and where we sit in the race for the 7th seed in the NFC. They also check in on the Wizards, who have dropped two straight games and now sit at 3-3. Some of their concerns, i.e., Bradley Beal's inconsistencies, are coming to light, and the Wiz can't guard anyone as they get embarrassed by the Pacers on Friday and then demolished by the Celtics on Sunday. Both of the DC teams look precisely alike, and fans keep believing that they are better than the sum of their parts, but either way, a win is a win.
While the game Sunday is an opportunity for the Commanders to get to .500, Brent and Dre are less than enthused. With news that mat Ryan was benched for Sam Ehlinger, they are confident that the Commanders will win. The Colts' defense is a shell of its former self, and even Jonathan Taylor has struggled to be consistent this year. Brent and Dre also check back in on the Wizards, who are currently 3-1 and the subject of many conversations, but Brent and Dre aren't buying the early-season hype. They go in-depth with some of their concerns with the Wizards, who have had an easy schedule to start the season thus far. Finally, Brent has been mocked by some fans who attempt to pin the Wizards' playoff woes from 2015-2018 on John Wall, and they discuss the debate between Gilbert Arenas and John Wall. Brent may have disrespected Gil in defense of John, but Dre wouldn't let that happen, and they agree that Arenas, Wall, and Beal should be celebrated by fans because not many Wizards have even come close to the accolades of those three.
The Commanders have a winning streak, not that Brent or Dre are particularly pleased with it, but it is good to see Terry back involved in the passing game. They discuss when they think Chase will be back and how impressive the defense looked, even against an average offense. Brent and Dre talk about the running back carry splits and Heinicke's only goal is to squander draft positioning and, at best, get us blown out in the wildcard. Then they discuss the newest Dan Snyder news since they were last together, and Dre was right that it could be curtains for Dan soon. They finish up talking about the Wizard's 2-0 start and how Brent is still concerned for the future, with Kuzma's contact potentially being up along with Porzingis. Then they talk about how concerning Beal's poor 3-point shooting could be in a tough eastern conference before the Wiz take on the Cavs.
Brent and Dre try to talk about the game at Solider Field, but there wasn't much to discuss between how terrible the Commanders' offense looked and how the Bears should have beaten Washington. It's only week five, and both Brent and Dre are rooting for the Commanders to tank, but then the talk of the day was the ESPN article concerning Dan's PI's with dirt on Godell and other owners.Between that and Ron storming off his post-game presser, the antics are more interesting than the game turned out to be.
Brent and Dre start talking about the week's news and Ron's infamous 'Quarterback' quote and how it affected the locker room. Then they touch on William Jackson's mysterious injury keeping him from making the trip to Chicago. Finally, they actually get around to talking about the game on Thursday but aren't optimistic that it will be very watchable, but what Thursday night game has been besides the first one?
Brent and Dre start off talking about how things didn't look as terrible this week. The Commanders had some big offensive plays this week, albeit against a mediocre, at best, Titans' secondary. Ron made some changes and yanked William Jackson out of the game. The defense kept Derrick Henry in check for the most part, yet we still dropped another game. Both Brent and Dre talk about how at this point, the clock should just be running out at the end of the year for Rivera and company before a complete overhaul. A short week doesn't bode well for the Commander, but at least Montez 'Almost' Sweat showed up and got his two sacks today.
It's another touch matchup at FedEx this weekend and another week where the Commanders are underdogs, and we aren't enthused about the chances of an upset. Brent and Dre talk about what it would take to pull off an upset and then joke about how the Commander's secondary can still get cooked by Ryan Tannehill and Co. They also talk about how good Wenbenyama and Henderson looked in their national debut and why the Wizards should be trying to tank for one of them instead of fighting for a 9-10 seed in the east.
Another Sunday, another disheartening loss. The Commander's offense can't seem to get out of its way as penalties and poor quarterback play lead to only one score for the second straight week. Then the defense gives up huge plays in the secondary to officially bury Washington at the bottom of the division. Brent and Dre are both unimpressed with the performance and continue to call for coaches' jobs and want to know when we might see Sam Howell and if it's too early to throw that 'T'-word around even if it means Ron is gone. Buckle up for another losing pod, with plenty of more coming in the foreseeable future.
Brent and Dre preview the upcoming Cowboys matchup on Sunday, but honestly, it turns into a show about how badly Ron Rivera needs to be let go at the end of the season. Dre focuses on how poorly Carson Wentz has played over the last two weeks, and Brent continues to aim his focus on how terrible the defense is. Both predict a loss this coming Sunday and that it's time to consider tanking to try and land our future starting Quarterback.
Another week, another 3-score deficit going into the second half. Dre was at FedEx for the first half, while Brent decided that staying home would be the best place to watch this beating while dealing with a cold. The Commander's offense was stagnant in the first half, while the defense allowed Jalen Hurts and Devonta Smith to do whatever they wanted. After this poor display, Dre is finally ready to join Brent in calling for Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio's jobs. Everyone buckle up because this looks like a trend that can carry on for the remainder of the season, and we're only three games in.
Things were so heated during the recording that we lost some of the show, but Brent and Dre talk about how terrible the defense looks. While Brent wants to focus on the secondary, Dre directs most of his anger at the linebacker group. The talk about the clear dysfunction with the coaching, and once again, Brent is calling for Rivera's job, but Dre isn't quite ready to do that just yet.
Dre and Brent discuss the upcoming week 2 matchup between the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions. Also why are the commanders underdogs and should they be.
Dre and Brent react to the Commanders 28-22 victory over the Jaguars in the week 1 opener. Also Carson Wentz's debut as the starting quarterback in Washington along with Scott Turner's new look offense.
The wait is over as week 1 of NFL season is here. Dre and Brent breakdown the Commanders vs Jaguars, Ron Rivera's nerves, expectations from the offense and defense, also what would a loss mean for the Commanders.
Dre and Brent the unfortunate shooting of Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. Also share there thoughts on the upcoming regular season and give record predictions.
Dre and Brent break down the Commanders week two preseason matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. They discuss the starter's struggles and whether or not fans should be alarmed. Does the defense have the potential to be historically bad? Then how much weight can the offense carry while Wentz's inaccuracy on throws is becoming more noticeable?
Brent and Dre return from their hiatus as Washington plays their first preseason game as the Commanders. They breakdown the positives and negatives from preseason week 1, Carson Wentz, Antonio Gibson's lack of ball and job security, and concerns for the defense. Also discussed Sam Howell‘s debut and the chatter surrounding it.
Now that all of the picks are in Brent and Dre breakdown of strengths, weaknesses, comparisons, and potential fits of all the players selected up to the 5th round! Then talk about the selections they like and the selections that left them scratching their heads in frustration. Brent and Dre also discuss the overall tone of the draft from their perspective and if the Commanders' claims of drafting players that can contribute on day one held their weight. After that, they turn their attention to the outlook of the rest of the NFC East teams, whether they believe the division got better and who the best team will be. Brent and Dre then discuss whether the Washington Commanders' coaching brain trust is on the right trajectory to aim for legitimate success. This episode is a long but fun one!
Brent and Dre react just a few minutes after the Washington Commanders' selection of Dotson, and as you may have guessed, the reaction was split. Dre thought the choice was fine given what happened in front of the Commanders, while Brent wanted to select Hamilton or even Olave if it had to be WR with our first pick.Brent also thought that with the Giants' selections at 5 and 7 and the Eagles trading for A.J. Brown, the Commanders are quickly free-falling in the division. Brent also thought that the fact Washington traded back with the Saints, who then selected Olave, was another strike against Ron Rivera and Co's ability to lead the franchise, which led him to believe that the Dotson selection was another reactionary response similar to the Carson Wentz trade. The guys will be back Sunday to recap all of the action in the draft and give an in-depth analysis of the Commanders selections and expectations for the season.
Brent and Dre discuss options on both sides of the ball that the Commanders can go in. Of course, Brent thinks defense, while Dre is solely focused on WR at that spot. They go in-depth about their top 4 picks, and their fits with the team and players that they could compare to in the league.
Brent and Dre talk about what the Commanders did with the free agency moves and how lackluster that overall period has been. Then they look towards the draft and what the Commanders should focus on with the #11th pick. Brent wants a linebacker, and Dre wants a wide receiver, so the two debate about which path is best for the team moving forward.
It's been a while since we last checked in, but happy to be back! Brent and Dre jump straight into things as they discuss the trade for Carson Wentz, whether they like the deal or not, did we give up too much, and is Commander Carson here to stay, or is this another stopgap QB. Dre wants to give the move a chance to work while Brent is already done with the upcoming season; the two get into an argument about what they should do moving forward in the draft. Brent starts attacking Carson's face, Ron's decision-making, and the team's direction. It's a lot of laughs and a whole lot of bleeps!
Brent and Dre talk about what news came out of the senior bowl and how the QBs looked during the game. They argue about the top half of the rankings and who best fits the Commanders moving forward before switching to the Pro Bowl. They note how having players at the Pro Bowl can help land free agents and address the rumors of Russell Wilson to DC that surfaced over the week. The two finish off the show quickly, discussing the Wizards and their slump that has dropped them to the 11th seed.
With Washington finally getting their new name, Brent and Dre talked about how they feel about the team name, the new jerseys, and whether they think this build-up was worth it. The two discuss the news that Bradley Beal is now receptive to being traded and what a potential Ben Simmons trade looks like. Of course, they get into a debate about QB tiers, and where Kyler Murray falls into them once, Brent begins talking about Joe Burrow being the best QB in the league and why. As you may have guessed, Dre thinks he's crazy.
