Kyle Kuzma was the last remnant from the Lakers' "kids" era. But alas, all good things must come to end, as it did when he got dealt in a package to the Wizards for Russell Westbrook. And for someone who clearly enjoyed being in L.A. and being a Laker, that was probably a bit of a bummer. But in a recent appearance on Gilbert Arenas' "The No Chill Podcast" he made it clear there was no animosity on his end towards his old franchise. "All love," as he put it. In fact, Kuzma and LeBron actually hung out a couple days after the deal went through, and it was all good. The Kamenetzkys discuss this mature outlook on the situation. From there, they open the mailbag! (Send questions via Twitter (@kambrothers), email (kamenetzkybrothers@gmail.com) or through comments on the iTunes show page. The first question comes from Jay Taylor (@JayTayl14352491), who asks when the Lakers will stop shuffling the decks so frequently with their rosters, and actually build a team that feels more like a true team. The answer? Somewhere between "Not until they're done maximizing LeBron James and Anthony Davis" and "Never, because that's not what this franchise does." For better and worse, depending on how you operate emotionally as a sports fan, the Lakers aren't built like that. Finally, questions from Eran Soroka (@sorokman) and LA10 (@LuisG81045) about the shooting guard options for the Lakers. Who'll start? Who's in the rotation? Who might collect DNP-CD's? As of today, Jaden Springer is officially a Sixer! So we had to talk about the defensive menace. “No Particular Hurry” episode 25 is out now. In this episode host Dave Early interviews Keith Williams, a basketball coach and skills trainer to NBA and WNBA legends like Kevin Durant, DeMarcus Cousins, Gilbert Arenas, Chamique Holdsclaw, Alana Beard, Steve Francis, and many more. He's worked off and on for several years now with Sixers' 28th overall pick, Jaden Springer, out of Tennessee. In the pod, they get into: Shooting will be an important swing skill for Springer. What does Williams think of Springer's shooting form? Are there changes Springer wants to make to his form? Might Springer struggle to get his shot off at the pro level? He shot a lot of pull-ups in college, do you think he'll transition smoothly to shooting more 3s at the pro level? Will he be able to come right in and play that pitbull style of defense he's known for or will he need some time to develop? What would have happened if they put Springer on Hawks wing Kevin Huerter in the second round a couple of months ago? Will the refs let him play that level of D or will it be the usual rookie treatment even Matisse Thybulle has had to go through? Is Jaden like any other of his past clients? What's his make-up and temperament? Hear what Williams thinks makes Springer unlike any client he's ever worked with before. And fun tidbits like this about his upbringing and personality: “He's competitive so the type of family he comes from, they're very competitive, they're gonna be competitive, on anything you can imagine, they're competitive on. And he's not a big talker. But when it gets competitive he will talk trash as you saw while we were playing chess. I mean he's a competitive kid. That's a fact. But I think you know for the town of Philly and the type of kid he is, I think it's a perfect match.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

On this episode, it's a very special edition of the No Chill Podcast. We actually started this one a year ago and tracked DJ McDonald from one season to the next. DJ's basketball story is one we can all relate to. Every hooper of every ability goes through the ups and downs that the game throws at you. In DJ's case, a promising high school career brought him to UC Riverside in California. But not making it in the rotation and being overlooked for one reason or another had DJ ready to give up on the game. He lost the love and the drive to grind and new he wasn't the player he wanted to be.For Gil, this hit close to home... He'd known DJ and his dad Darryl for years in the Valley AAU scene. He'd watched DJ grow into a score first, aggressive guard with a promising future. Gil worked with DJ over the years and was on top of his progression. So we sat down with DJ in the summer of 2020 when he was at his basketball crossroads. You'll find out just how down he was and pretty much checked out. Fast forward to this year and made his way to Colorado Christian and has been producing at a high clip. He re-dedicated his craft and rekindled his love to hoop. On this episode, we've got another Valley legend and just a legend period, Paul Rodriguez. Coming up in Socal, PRod, started out with a love for skating and took the sport to another level. As skate culture identifies with creativity, dedication and constantly shifting the paradigm, he's always been at the forefront of it. We focus so much on developing skill, passion, living and breathing your craft, and that is a major, common thread in the skate game. For Gil, he's drawn to PRod's elite level talent, but also his gifts. To try new things and think of the ultimate, ultimate tricks, is something that is close to his heart. PRod's style and intellect was something that through their Nike connection, was also wisdom shared in with conversations with Kobe. In a sport where falling is given, it's the character to get back up and keep pushing that's what we can all draw from. On this episode we're going all in on the true love of skill in the game of basketball. Watching the postseason, skill is display at the highest level. We recognize the best players in the world going at each other with it all on the line. The deciding factor? Supreme skill. As Candice Parker pointed out after the Hawks knocked off the Knicks, when unleashed, skill wins every time. For Gil, that's what it's all about. As we saw with the Lakers coming up short, it wasn't just about injury, execution or defense, they didn't have enough skill to succeed. Over in Portland, it's one thing to have a dominant, ultra-skilled player, but if not surrounded by a skilled enough roster, you don't have a chance. We all see different things when we watch and study the game, but an examination of winning basketball points out one common thread, you're not winning without skill.Presented by: Athletic GreensTHE NO CHILL PODCASTA No Chill ProductionEXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Tim Livingston, Gilbert Arenas, Mike BotticelloHOSTED BY: GILBERT ARENAS and MIKE BOTTICELLOVideography/Editor: Steven Rhys FosterDirector: Steven Rhys FosterSound: Alfonso CanoTalent Coordinator: Thomas ScottProduction Assistant: Ethan Zakarin

On this episode, we have another lab session with Agent Zero. This time with two hoopers you should absolutely have on your radar. Fresh off of a Final Four run with the University of Houston, AAC Conference Player of the Year, Quentin Grimes is heading to the league and rising up draft boards. His training partner, the lefty bucket getter from Mississippi State, DJ Stewart is quickly moving from under the radar to head turner. As part of their draft prep, the two have paired to train together and made their way to LA to get some time with Coach Arenas. For Gil, beyond the evaluation and the skill work, he wanted to see where their heads were at. It’s not a question of how, it’s when. So many prospects go through the process, so Gil’s approach is to have an approach. Don’t be cookie cutter, unless you’re a cookie cutter player. And these two are far too dynamic and gifted to do anything but shine as pros. On this episode, the postseason is upon us and this year, we’re looking to shuffle up the deck. It started out with a play-in tournament that needs some explaining. Sure, it might be a good idea, but after what we say this year, could definitely use some tweaking. Agent Zero has the answer. As for the playoffs slate, we have a lot of love for the East coming. Brooklyn stacked up and the question is...who can actually give them a run? But while we’re in the city, Mr. Anti-New York himself, Gilbert Arenas, has a take on Knicks fans that we apologize in advance for. But he actually has some surprising praise too. Speaking of praise, the Lakers have all the shine as usual, but it’s Chris Paul and his work in Phoenix the deserves a salute. On this episode, what do you get when you have college friends, teammates, rivals, NBA stars and lifelong jokesters? You have Richard Jefferson and Gil’s 20+ year friendship. Since meeting as AAU players, to a recruitment trip that almost made the whole thing fall apart, Gil and Richard have been going tit-for-tat for a long time. If one sets the bar, the other not only raises it, but makes it unreachable. For Gil, this comes from a genuine bond with Richard, not just from talent on the basketball court, but connecting as personalities. As Richard’s career showed us, he was a great athlete, a high flyer and an excellent teammate. Just like Gil, he had fun with it, but when it was game time, he was all the way locked in. For the both of them, that was the bond at Arizona, and coming from an ultra talented squad, they were able to stand out at the next level in the NBA.Presented by: Athletic Greens and KeepsTHE NO CHILL PODCASTA No Chill ProductionEXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Tim Livingston, Gilbert Arenas, Mike BotticelloHOSTED BY: GILBERT ARENAS and MIKE BOTTICELLOVideography/Editor: Steven Rhys FosterDirector: Steven Rhys FosterSound: Alfonso CanoTalent Coordinator: Thomas ScottProduction Assistant: Ethan Zakarin

On this episode, this is something we’ve been building up towards. We’ve talked a lot about the point guard position...how it’s changed, the value of scoring at the position and how to be a great point guard. Now, we’re bringing it all together, by examining how the point guard has evolved to this current era, where the position has never been more loaded with talent, more dynamic, or more skilled. For Gil, someone who -- as he points out to us -- led the progression to empowerment of the position in the current era, we’re witnessing a range of greatness across basketball. Gone is the era of the distributor and we’re living in the time of the shoot first, ultra gifted point guard. On this episode, we’re circling back a moment in basketball that propelled us to where the game is today. At the time, Brandon Jennings went from Oak Hill Academy to the Euroleauge, it was a move that puzzled and surprised many. Instead of going the college route, one of the top prospects in his class, Brandon knew he had the pro makeup, so he went overseas to make it happen. When he was drafted number ten overall in 2009, he entered the league with a year of pro experience under his belt and some money in his pocket. For Gil, Brandon was always that exceptional player who could score at will, a shoot first point guard and a shot creator, but he also had the vision to go against the grain. At the time the move made headlines, and only a few players followed suit. But as we’re seeing now, a pathway has been made where they don’t need to depend the college system to progress their careers. As for Brandon, enough time as gone by to look back at that chapter in his life with recognition for what he accomplished and where it took him to next.Presented by: Babbel, Athletic Greens and Dr. SquatchTHE NO CHILL PODCASTA No Chill ProductionEXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Tim Livingston, Gilbert Arenas, Mike BotticelloHOSTED BY: GILBERT ARENAS and MIKE BOTTICELLOVideography/Editor: Steven Rhys FosterDirector: Steven Rhys FosterSound: Alfonso CanoTalent Coordinator: Thomas ScottProduction Assistant: Ethan Zakarin

On this episode, we hit rewind and travel back to the Showtime Era. One of the essential members of that iconic squad, 5-time champion and 8-time all defensive teamer, Michael Cooper takes us through exactly what made that team so special. Looking at the impact their style of play had on the game, we can appreciate how so much of the modern era was influenced by Showtime. For Gil, it was the substance and the strategy that Pat Riley unleashed with Magic at the point. Not only did Magic revolutionize the position, his rivalry with Larry Bird and Boston defined the era. As Coop tells us, the Celtics were the ultimate opponent and the dynasty was only successful because everyone on the team bought and supported each other. It truly was a special chapter in NBA history, and as we see where the game has come from Showtime roots, we should appreciate it even more.Presented by: GabiTHE NO CHILL PODCASTA No Chill ProductionEXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Tim Livingston, Gilbert Arenas, Mike BotticelloHOSTED BY: GILBERT ARENAS and MIKE BOTTICELLOVideography/Editor: Steven Rhys FosterDirector: Steven Rhys FosterSound: Alfonso CanoTalent Coordinator: Thomas ScottProduction Assistant: Ethan Zakarin

As Tryon sees it, it is an art form and the octagon is his canvas. This is something we can relate to, work on your skills and show the world what you’ve got when it’s time to compete. For Gil, the mindset of a fighter is fascinating. Think about it...what is inside you that makes you welcome punishment, pain and combat? And what does that moment of success feel like when you get the best of your opponent? You don’t have to put on the wraps to be fighter, it’s about that dog mentality. On this episode, we have a question for you...does being the most relevant make you the best? For all of us we become prisoners of the moment from time to time, and we’re quick to crown someone the GOAT or the top dog. Old school dudes will tell us back in their day it was tougher, more competitive...and not like it used to be. But the reality is, the current era is the most evolved, most prepared and most skilled. Mainly, because of those that came before them. For Gil, he points to the next wave as always the most relevant. Things end for every era at some point, so let the next up have their time. The past ones had theirs. It’s an argument that’s never ending, so let’s examine why we have it in the first place. Looking at the cycle of stardom, it all comes down to the window that exists for everyone. So in that time, shine in your window and let your accomplishments live. On this episode, we tackle a big and timely topic in sports. The subject of equality. Throughout the history of sports, questions of fairness, an equal playing field and opportunities for athletes -- regardless of race, gender and age -- have existed. Movements have taken place and change has happened, but we’re still seeing roadblocks in the way of progress. So we’re diving into the heart of the issue and how to bring about change. For Gil, he sees where the future of sports is headed and what stands in the way of fairness. From the rules in place, to those who fear change, we need to examine the collective frame of mind around progress, what’s fair and the best course of action. We have examples throughout sports history...both the good and the bad...to learn from. As for the future, we want the best athletes to compete, succeed and push the game forward. On this episode, we go big, with none other than Glen “Big Baby” Davis. Coming up as a manchild from Louisiana, Big Baby proved he could hoop with his unique combination of size and mobility. When he got to the pro level, he quickly figured out that to really make it, he’d have to use his unorthodox makeup to find his place in the league. Thankfully, he landed on a Boston team that was in win-now mode, and demanded its role players to get in where they fit in. For Gil, Big Baby was exactly the kind of guy you want on your roster -- does whatever he has to do for the team to win, doesn’t back down and will shine in his role. From there, Baby knew how to have fun and be himself. That Boston team had the big three, but they also had a team of personalities that became a brotherhood. That’s winning culture. There haven’t been too many players like Big Baby, and looking at what he’s done with basketball, he definitely deserves some more shine. Smith. We all know Stephen A., but you may not have known he came up as a hooper, playing college ball at the HBCU school, Winston-Salem. That connection to the game carried Stephen A. through his entire career. We all know he can get his point across, but the most important thing is, he stands by what he says, and totally understands the athletes’ perspective. For Gil, it’s all about respect, and Stephen A. works to demand it and earn it. Of course he had a few things to say about Gil over the years, but now that Gil’s in another chapter beyond his playing days, it’s an entirely different conversation. On the basis of relationships, athletes and media members can actually coexist. As Gil sees it, it takes accountability and the willingness to look yourself in the mirror when putting the narrative in context. And as Stephen A. tells us, we root for guys to succeed, but it’s how they handle themselves that keeps us talking.

For fans, we want to see the best come together and our favorite players show out on the stage. This season it’s going to be a brief All-Star experience, but let’s appreciate that the tradition continued. For Gil, a three-time All-Star himself, it’s a great accomplishment to earn. Players put in so much work and grind, so of course they’re grateful for the recognition. However, in the case of the guys that don’t make it or feel they should be starters rather than reserves, the All-Star roster can serve as a motivator. We should definitely know that these guys keep track of who’s who, and because the competitive spirit is always burning, they measure against each other.
