This audio recording captures a sermon delivered on the first day of Holy Week, connecting the biblical narratives of the Garden of Eden and the Garden of Gethsemane. The speaker contrasts Adam, the first man, with Jesus, the second Adam, highlighting their responses to temptation, confrontation, and intercession within these pivotal garden settings. The sermon explores how Adam's disobedience brought sin into the world, while Jesus's obedience and sacrifice in Gethsemane offer redemption for humanity. Ultimately, it frames the story of the two gardens as the central narrative of redemption, urging listeners to reflect on Christ's love and sacrifice during Holy Week.Support the showThanks for listening! Luke 3:23-38 ends this exciting chapter with a list of names! I can remember as a brand-new Christian reading through my Bible for the first few times and starting in the New Testament Book of Matthew, the first thing I had to read was a long list names that I didn't recognize. I thought, “This is the Bible? How boring is this.” And during my first year as a believer, I also attempted to read through the Old Testament and again, time after time I would come across long list of names, and I thought, “Why would God put all these names in the Bible?” But over the years I have come to love the names listed in the Bible. The first reason I have fallen in love with the names of the Bible is I believe that God loves the names of people! God loves you and because of that He loves your name! The Bible makes a big deal about the names of God and if you remember in our first chats we studied through about thirty of His names, and found out that actually there are some seven-hundred names, titles, or descriptions of God listed in the Bible. Because God it such a great and awesome God it takes all these names to describe Him to us and honestly that is only the beginning because our God in incomprehensible! Your name is an identification of who you are and what kind of person you are! People know you by your name. So, these names are very important in the Bible. I have found over the years studying the Bible that behind every name is an amazing story! Behind your name is a story, the story of your life. And behind all the names listed in Matthew's and Luke's genealogy is a story that assures us that God is a God who loves people, and He is a sovereign God who is in control of history. Now there are several things you will notice as you compare the genealogies given in these two Gospels. Matthew's genealogy (Matt. 1:1-17) begins with Abraham and moves forward to Jesus, while Luke's begins with Jesus and moves backward to Adam. Matthew gives us the genealogy of Joseph, the legal foster-father of Jesus. Both genealogies go back to David, but you read in Matthew 1:6, that David was the father of Solomon. In Luke 3:31 you read that David was the father of Nathan. And from there to Joseph the names are different than in Matthew. It is also interesting to note that 1 Chronicles 3:1-9 lists all the sons of King David, and in verse 5, we read that Bathsheba was the mother of both Solomon and Nathan. So, Luke gives us the genealogy of His mother Mary, while Matthew gives us the genealogy of Joseph. Luke 3:23 can be translated: "When He began His ministry, Jesus was about thirty years old (being supposedly the son of Joseph), the son of Heli [an ancestor of Mary]." Mary herself would not be mentioned because it was unusual for women to be named in the official genealogies, though Matthew names four of them (Matt. 1:3, 5, 16). Now you know the name of Mary's father, which was Heli. That's a good question to ask your friends. By putting the genealogy here, Luke reminded his readers that the Son of God was also the Son of Man, born into this world, identified with the needs and problems of mankind. And, since Joseph and Mary were both in David's line, these genealogies prove that Jesus of Nazareth has the legal right to David's throne (Luke 1:32-33). The Bible tells the story of God's love and redemption through the names of people! Luke starts with the “Second Adam”, Jesus, and goes back the “First Adam”. From the sinless Son of Man, to the first man who brought sin into the world. What a unique way to record the coming and going of sixty centuries of time through seventy-five names! But then, God always has had a tender love for people, especially His own, and He likes to write their names into His Book. Is your name written in His Lamb's Book of Life? God bless!

This lesson delves into the profound meaning behind Luke 22:44, where Jesus' sweat is compared to "great drops of blood." A common misunderstanding of this verse suggests that Jesus was literally sweating blood, but a closer look reveals something different. The verse vividly compares two bodily fluids—sweat and blood—not to suggest they were the same but to emphasize the intensity of Jesus' suffering and the volume of His sweat. But why would Luke include this striking detail in his Gospel when the other Evangelists did not? Join us as we uncover this passage's more profound theological significance and what Luke intended this detail to mean. We'll dive into the first-century theological ideas surrounding the First Adam and the Last Adam and how Jesus, the Last Adam, reversed the curse of the first Adam's disobedience. Discover how the term "sweat," used only twice in the entire Bible—in Genesis 3 with Adam and in Luke 22:44 with Jesus—serves as an ancient idiom for anxiety. Jesus' triumph, in the fullness of His humanity, over anxiety at the Gethsemane signifies the breaking of humanity's curse, paving the way for redemption. Don't miss this insightful lesson, which connects the dots between Genesis and the Gospels, shedding light on Christ's redemptive work and His ultimate obedience to God's will. ---------------------------------------------------------- www.figtreeteaching.com Support Fig Tree Ministries: https://donorbox.org/support-figtree-ministries Fig Tree Amazon Portal: https://amzn.to/3USMelI Class Handout - No Handout for this Lesson Blog Post: https://www.figtreeteaching.com/blog/did-jesus-really-sweat-blood YouTube: https://youtu.be/tv0HJi2tOPg Is There a Garden of Gethsemane? - https://youtu.be/6w6hXp79Jck Gezerah Shava & the Greatest Commandment: https://youtu.be/tgql4_1Qwko References: Daniel Fleming - "By the Sweat of Your Brow" - https://www.academia.edu/31549387/Fleming_Daniel_E_By_the_Sweat_of_Your_Brow_Adam_Anat_Athirat_and_Ashurbanipal_in_Ugarit_and_the_Bible_G_J_Brooke_A_H_W_Curtis_and_J_F_Healey_eds_Ugaritisch_Biblische_Literatur_11_Neukirchen_Vluyn_Neukirchener_1994_Pages_93_100

Erik Jones discusses 1 Corinthians 15:45-49—“And so it is written, ‘The first man Adam became a living being.' The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. … And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.”
Brent and Dre are back after the draft, discussing Peters and Co.'s selections between Thursday and Saturday. They start by discussing the most important pick, Jayden Daniels at number two, and what that means for the franchise's future. Of course, Brent and Dre take opposing stances. Brent believes that selecting Daniels, anything less than a Wildcard Weekend bid, is a failure, while Dre doesn't agree. Then Dre thinks that making the trade with the Eagles was savvy. Brent still thinks that letting Cooper Dejean go to the Eagles will haunt the Commanders for the next decade. To wrap up the two, discuss what all the additions made in the draft and off-season can mean for the roster and give a quick preview of what the Commanders' record could be. The wildcard isn't that far out of the imagination.

Adam was God's first priest on the earth, and Eden was his sanctuary, where the first man was to "work and keep" the garden and keep away from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The reward for his work? Eternal happiness with God. In this message on Genesis 2:4–17, we learn that Christ—the Last Adam—has won this inheritance for us, and that all our striving must be in light of his saving work.

Master Books welcome author, Simon Turpin to the podcast to discuss why belief in Adam as a man created by God according to Genesis is critical to understanding the gospel of Jesus Christ. Is the Adam we read about in Genesis a real man or a myth? Many contemporary theologians, seminary professors, and even pastors now teach that Adam is a mere myth, fable, or figurative character. In Adam: First and the Last, Simon Turpin challenges this heresy, reveals its evolutionary roots, and addresses the repercussions of such beliefs on the Gospel message. Salvation in Christ alone, requires faith in God's creation of the First Adam and redemption through the Last Adam, Jesus Christ. Find the tools needed to counter these false teachings and remain grounded in the authority of the Bible in Turpin's Christian apologetic resource: Adam: First and the Last. Sign-up for my free 20-day devotional, The Word Before Work Foundations, at http://TWBWFoundations.com--Series: Easter VocationsDevotional: 4 of 4He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God….Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:3, 6-8)Everything God does is intentional, and the timing of Jesus's resurrection is no exception. As pastor Skye Jethani explains in his book Futureville, the reason why Jesus rose from the dead on a Sunday has its origins in the creation account of Genesis 1. Historically, Christians have identified “Sunday as the first day of God's creative work.” And just “like the creation account in Genesis, which began but did not end on Sunday, God's re-creation began on Easter Sunday with Jesus' resurrection but continues to unfold.”You see, just as the first Sunday was just the beginning of the first creation, Easter Sunday was just the beginning of the final one. And just as God called the First Adam and his bride Eve to help him cultivate the first creation, Jesus the Last Adam has called his bride, the Church, to help him cultivate the final one. That's the vocation Jesus gave us, his followers, in today's passage: to be “witnesses” to that new creation! At first blush, that word “witnesses” simply appears to be a call to “share the gospel.” But pastor Tim Keller explains that the Greek word here means “more than simply winning people to Christ…the church is to be an agent of the kingdom. It is not only to model the healing of God's rule but it is to spread it….ordering lives and relationships and institutions and communities according to God's authority to bring in the blessedness of the kingdom.”What does that look like practically? It looks like weeding out things like disorder, injustice, and disease that have no place in the eternal kingdom of God.It looks like creating beautiful art, places of belonging, and cultural excellence that offer glimpses of what does belong in God's kingdom. It looks like serving as faithful representatives of our Risen King, modeling his character of love, peace, and joy to those we work with. And yes, it looks like making disciples as you go about your life and work.If Jesus's “Easter vocation” is King of Kings, our Easter vocation is to be witnesses to his kingship and rightful lordship over every square inch of creation—including your place of work. Embrace your role as a witness for the king and work to make “thy kingdom come” in your place of work “as it is in heaven” today!

Classic Friday! “The Christian Faith” is a wonderful summary by Theodore Beza. Today, Mike dives into the First Adam and discusses Federal headship.
In today's lesson, we continue our series on the Transfiguration by exploring the connection between the First Adam and Jesus, as the Last Adam. This connection takes us back to Eden and the loss of glory that Adam and Eve experienced after their sin. According to Rabbinic writings, when the Messiah comes, he will restore the glory that Adam lost. Moreover, Paul will use this line of Rabbinic theology to encourage us to increase our own reflected glory now that the Messiah - Jesus - has come. Today's lesson not only helps us understand the Transfiguration event but also provides a goal for our personal spiritual growth. As we mature as Christians, we increasingly reflect God's glory into the darkness of the world. Romans 5:12-21By one disobedient act of Adam, sin entered the world and reign through death. Mankind had a huge problem and only one man was able to fix it. Jesus Christ's, the second Adam, righteous act provided the grace to a justified life for all humanity. Jesus is much more.
Reading Phil. 2:6-11 we glimpse the praise & worship offered to Jesus by the earliest Christians. Paul adapts this ‘hymn' as his ‘Master Story.' It's breathtaking in scope–from the eternal past before all time, to eternal future when every creature worships Jesus as cosmic Lord. It covers Christ's descent from the heights of equality with God down to the depths of human suffering, climaxing in the cross, yet followed by God's exaltation of him far above all. Some scholars adamantly refuse to recognize Christ's preexistence and incarnation here; they see only a sinless ‘Second Adam,' succeeding where the First Adam failed, promoted as God's ‘Adopted Son' worthy only of admiration and imitation. Rejecting this prejudicial view, we ought to see God's pre-existing Son, equal with God the Father, actively renouncing divine privilege, emptying himself to participate in humanity. Now, through his cross, we participate in our Savior's benefits, confess Jesus as Lord, & worship him to God's glory.

Was there man before man? Man before Adam? Many have heard this theory of a Pre-Adamic man before Adam was created. Does the Bible even leave room for this? It is time to test this and settle this for good. How can so many scholars even forget the even the New Testament defines Adam as the first man?"And so it is written, The FIRST MAN Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit." –1 Cor. 15:45 KJV"For the FIRST Adam bearing a wicked heart transgressed, and was overcome; and so be all they that are born of him." –2 ESDRAS 3:21 KJVA"Because for their sakes I made the world: and when Adam transgressed my Statutes, then was decreed that now is done." –2 ESDRAS 7:11 KJVAAre these not saying Adam was the first man?
