The statement, "people-pleasing is not a fruit of the Spirit," really activated something in my mind and I haven't stopped pondering on it since. The questions that I want us to tackle today are both what the source of our people pleasing is as well as whether people pleasing is even a Godly trait. In order to stop doing something, I think we first need to understand why we do it in the first place. The thing I enjoy about studying the Bible is that in different seasons, the same scripture can hold different meanings. Whilst reading the book of Amos 4, a chapter titled, “God's Punishments Have Not Reformed Israel” in the NKJV, I was taken aback by the idea that God released plagues on the Israelites to get them to turn back to Him. What is Strategy? It is a plan of action designed to achieve a long-term or overall aim. Synonyms include game plan, master plan or grand design. In Genesis 41 we see how God creates an opportunity for Joseph to be liberated out of a dire situation. In the process Joseph enacts a plan of action that saves Egypt from impending doom. So what can we learn from the story of Joseph? Firstly, it is God who creates opportunities for us and room for promotion. It may take longer than we like, but we need to trust in Him.
