Today, we're joined by Maohao Shen, PhD student at MIT to discuss his paper, “Satori: Reinforcement Learning with Chain-of-Action-Thought Enhances LLM Reasoning via Autoregressive Search.” We dig into how Satori leverages reinforcement learning to improve language model reasoning—enabling model self-reflection, self-correction, and exploration of alternative solutions. We explore the Chain-of-Action-Thought (COAT) approach, which uses special tokens—continue, reflect, and explore—to guide the model through distinct reasoning actions, allowing it to navigate complex reasoning tasks without external supervision. We also break down Satori's two-stage training process: format tuning, which teaches the model to understand and utilize the special action tokens, and reinforcement learning, which optimizes reasoning through trial-and-error self-improvement. We cover key techniques such “restart and explore,” which allows the model to self-correct and generalize beyond its training domain. Finally, Maohao reviews Satori's performance and how it compares to other models, the reward design, the benchmarks used, and the surprising observations made during the research. How often have you found yourself ensnared by lofty promises of spiritual enlightenment only to leave with empty pockets and disillusionment? As spiritual explorers, we've been down this rabbit hole and we're here to be your guides. In this candid conversation, we navigate the spiritual marketplace, sharing our insights on how to discern genuine spiritual teachers from the fluff. We open up about our own experiences, shedding light on the importance of credentialing, reasonable class fees, and how to swerve the misleading marketing tactics that prey on our vulnerabilities.Turning our focus to Reiki, one of the most popular practices in the holistic wellness field, we convey the importance of resonating with your Reiki teacher. We've learned that it's not just about the teachings - it's about the tangible evidence of those teachings. We caution against hastily signing up for classes from inexperienced practitioners, emphasizing that real transformation takes time and practice. The right course should light up your spirit and inspire a connection with the teacher. And we're here to remind you to do your homework before committing to a course or a teacher.Lastly, we venture into the territory of ethical practices in the world of readings and healing centers. Far too often, we've witnessed the fallout from poor vetting and lack of diverse options in spiritual centers. It's crucial to remember that readings can open emotional wounds, so vetting is not just advisable, it's necessary. We also broach the subject of social media negativity and how it affects us. Listen in as we share our personal strategies to build resilience against online criticism, reminding you to stay committed to your spiritual journey, no matter the cyberbullying storms that may come your way. The Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast 321: Accessible Yoga & Pelvic Health with Jivana Heyman   Description: Why is pelvic health important and how can we make it more accessible in our yoga classes? In this episode, which first aired on the Accessible Yoga Podcast hosted by Jivana Heyman, Shannon Crow appears as the special guest to talk about pelvic health and making it accessible.   Jivana Heyman is the founder and director of the Accessible Yoga Association, an international non-profit organization devoted to making yoga teachings more accessible. He is also the author of Yoga Revolution: Building a Practice of Courage & Compassion and Accessible Yoga: Poses & Practices for Every Body.   Jivana and Shannon kick off this episode by discussing their shared love for supporting and connecting yoga teachers to each other and to information and their messy process of learning. Shannon then shares more about why she started Pelvic Health Professionals, the role of gendered language in discussing pelvic health, and how it plays a part in yoga. They also discuss trauma, fear–based language vs clear contraindications, what it really means to engage the pelvic floor, the core, and the difference between weak and relaxed pelvic floor. Tune in to learn more about how to share about this important topic with your students in a way that is accessible to all!   Key Takeaways: [1:39] Shannon introduces her guest for this episode - Jivana Heyman. This podcast episode was originally recorded for the Accessible Yoga podcast. [4:18] Jivana introduces Shannon and she tells listeners a little more about herself. [8:26] Being open to new information and learning is so important, and it can be a messy process. [10:36] Shannon invites experts in pelvic health to share information with other professionals. Is she intimidated by the expertise others bring to the table in her membership community? [13:09] Pelvic health is often seen as a gendered topic that applies more to cis-gender women or people who are giving birth. [14:49] How does Shannon help the people she works with connect with their pelvic floor without gendered language? [16:37] Jivana voices his frustration that there are a lot of gender assumptions in yoga spaces as well. [20:14] If you are keen to learn more about gendered language, Shannon has a coupon code for you. [21:08] What could it look like if yoga teachers started exploring how to remove gendered language from their classes? [23:20] Jivana and Shannon discuss how anatomical terms should be used in trauma-informed teaching. [26:13] Shannon gives a shout out of thanks to sponsors, OfferingTree and Pelvic Health Professionals. [28:10] What are some specific things yoga teachers could be saying to help yoga students understand more about pelvic health within the context of a yoga class? [31:27] Jivana highlights contraindications in yoga and the pushback against that in the yoga community. Shannon offers some tips on how to avoid fear-based language. [38:36] Shannon shares how she provides yoga cues without using fear-based language.  [41:41] It's common for yoga teachers to cue engagement of the pelvic floor or core. Shannon explains why this may not be a useful cue and how to cue this engagement instead. [47:05] What is the connection between the breath and the pelvic floor? [51:30] Being aware and staying within your scope of practice as a yoga teacher is very important. [53:38] Shannon shares some final thoughts around being subtle in your practice and questioning everything we come across. [60:00] Have more questions about pelvic health? You can spend time seeking out all the growth tips you want, but if you don't take the time to personalize the knowledge you find, you won't feel like you're winning. You won't feel like you're getting better and you won't feel like it's the right fit for you.The idea of looking at personal growth as a journey is a more realistic way to approach growth, as opposed to viewing it as a tall mountain you have to climb. Calling it a journey also implies that there isn't necessarily a finish line you need to feel anxious to hit. It's a continual walk down a path that is changing over time and presenting different challenges for growth depending on the season of life you're in. It's kinda nice, right? And you can easily be on multiple growth journeys simultaneously towards different outcomes for different things. One could be physical health, another could be emotional growth, another could be spiritual or even getting that dream career. The basic points you want to hit when you're on a journey toward personal growth is to become more observant of what's going on in the world around you & how that affects you and how you live your life. You also want to be honest about everything that isn't working, anything that needs to change & any help you might need. Finally, you need to commit to whatever changes and shifts you intend to make. Nothing changes if you don't follow through with the actions associated with creating change. To be successful in your personal growth journey, you gotta focus on these things being prevalent and take the journey seriously.Let's get into the list of steps I want to share with you that I believe best represent the journey you go on to achieve personal growth:Self-Reflect & Self-Awareness Goal Setting Move Forward With Action Toward Your Goals Don't Cower From Challenges & Struggles Lean On Those That Support You Embrace Change & Be Flexible Take Care of Yourself On the Regular Keep Learning to Increase Growth I absolutely appreciate you SO MUCH for listening, downloading & sharing the show! On today's solo episode, I deep-dive into the importance of our connection to ourselves, especially when challenged by overwhelm in our everyday lives. Having spent 15 years in technology, most of the work environments I've experienced have been toxic is one way or more. Even now, when working at a company that exemplifies what it means to care about its employees, I still struggle to manage my overwhelm and subsequent emotions when confronted with constructive feedback. But after giving myself a chance to step away from my intense reaction, I hit 'record' and shared my best advice on how to reconcile past experiences with toxic work environments and toxic relationships to build better relationships with ourselves and others. "Accountability is the crux of growth. Self-awareness is the linchpin of human connection." - Nikki La Croce In this episode, I share my thoughts on:1. How you can establish a connection with yourself and manage stress in times of overwhelm2. How you can move forward with more intention and alignment in your professional and personal life3. What it means to give yourself grace and accountability when it comes to understanding yourself Follow Who The F*ck? I've long claimed no matter how successful you are, you'll never feel successful if you don't reflect. Reflection is a skill. It's a tool. It's powerful in that multi-dimensional sorta way. True reflection requires time, effort, and discipline, which usually means most people won't do it. The great news is a little bit of reflection goes a long way. I do it daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually. And, NO, it does not require hours. December is a great time to take stock of all the wonderful moments you've had and lessons you've learned. Becoming more conscious of them and interpreting them with the right mindset will benefit you now and in the long run. I reflect on nine categories when I do my annual reflection. But, to be clear, this is NOT about looking at where your marriage is or career is or major buckets that tend to consume your life. Reflection, to me, is about asking yourself the right questions—the ones that hurt your brain a little because they require you to stop whatever you're doing, think, and, most importantly, interpret what actually happened. See, here's the thing. When you're in a present moment, it's impossible to know whether you're experiencing a high or low. That's only seeable when you turn around. But, when you look forward, you have the power to change that moment to whatever you want it to mean.
