Gender is a hot topic these days. There's a lot of shifting with gender as new language and words to describe how a person identifies oneself expands every day. Are you familiar with the best-selling book "The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying?" The Top 3 were: "I wish I hadn't worked so hard." "I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends." "I wish I had let myself be happier." In America, there's a productivity imperative that's always nagging us to work work work and “make something of ourselves.” But dying people rarely look back at their lives and wish they'd spent more time rat-racing. Instead, we wish we had prioritized PLAY and authentic pursuits with the people we loved. Play is just plain fun, but there are also scientific reasons that show how vital it is to our well-being. Psychology studies suggest that flirting, humor, imagination, sports, and other forms of play spark positive emotions, creativity, engagement, relationships, and achievement. In this episode, senior tech advisor and life adventurer Jason Yamnitz joins me to have a light-hearted chat about why play is so important as adults, how to let go of the serious side of work and start experiencing life as the adventure we believe it's supposed to be.
How often do you put yourself out there in your relationships? Kinda scary, right? It turns out that vulnerability is a mark of a true leader, both in personal and professional spaces. In this episode, transition coach Valeria Degiovanni joins me to chat about the evidence that supports the benefits of being vulnerable and how to access the courage to be a leader and the one to take that first step.
When you hear the word SELFISH, what does it spark in you? Is it indulgence? Excess? Overconsumption? Many people in our culture have come to associate the word with a negative understanding, likely stemming from our puritanical roots. But what if there's another way to look at it where we start by prioritizing ourselves - not from a place of fear or greed - but from one where we satisfy our needs BEFORE giving to others. In this episode, Transformational Coach Michelle Cordy and I attempt to reframe the word selfish and look at it in the BEST sense of the word. And in doing so, ironically we end up reducing the compulsion to overindulge because we have filled our cup up first, allowing a more sustainable way to give and love others.

In this interview with veteran Montessori educator Josh Shanklin, he and I reimagine education and a learning experience for our children where they can thrive. This discussion is full of insights on human development and innovative possibilities for what education might look like instead, both inside and outside the classroom.

Karen shares her journey of an unexpected pregnancy that quickly led to a painful miscarriage. She talks about the grief that came with it and how she was able to let go of the story attached to this experience in order to make space for a new chapter to be written.

Unresolved trauma can manifest in ways that negatively affect our lives and relationships and disconnect us from ourselves. In this episode, Deb Emick (author of "The Other Side of Perfect") and I talk about what it looks like to heal your trauma, break old patterns, and recover who you are as a more authentic, liberated, and reconnected person.

This topic has plenty of gray areas and no definitive answer, but in this episode my guest Amanda Cogan and I dive in to discuss and explore the other side of the coin: prioritizing yourself as a more wholistic, sustainable approach to true and lasting love.
