A seasoned educator, Dana shares her story of breaking free from the confines of the status quo and discovering her untapped potential. The conversation delves into the challenges Dana faced while conforming to traditional educational norms. She reveals the pivotal moment when she realized there was more she could offer, prompting her to step out of her comfort zone and embrace innovation. This episode serves as an inspiration for educators seeking to move beyond established boundaries. Dana's story is a testament to the courage it takes to explore new horizons in education. "Educators Moving On" with Dana Gastich French is a rallying cry for educators ready to embrace change and unlock their full potential in the dynamic landscape of teaching. " I had a clear sense that I needed to make a change or the system in which I was working was not ready for the change that I was advocating for. However, when it wasn't received well, I would look back at myself and believe the narrative that I was, in fact, the problem. And it's really hard to bear witness as an administrator in a system to inequities to fight for them and speak up for them and to be told that I was essentially too much. But what I recognized through conversation with other colleagues is that there are systems that do have readiness for this, and that the reality in which I was living was not the reality everywhere. So I needed to stop turning the blame on myself and saying, you have a gift to share. The fact that it's not being received here doesn't mean that it's unworthy or that you're unworthy. It means you need to find a setting that matches what you have to share. " Follow Dana Gastich French UpRiver Education https://www.instagram.com/upriver_education

Many of us can relate to experiencing moments or even prolonged periods in our lives when we feel persistently overwhelmed, stressed, and out of control. These emotions can be both physically and emotionally taxing, leaving us feeling drained and fatigued. Such a state of chronic stress and exhaustion can have a profound impact on several crucial aspects of our lives: Relationships: When we are constantly overwhelmed and stressed, it can become challenging to be present in our relationships. We may find ourselves irritable, impatient, or emotionally distant, which can strain our connections with loved ones. Over time, this strain can lead to conflicts, misunderstandings, and even the deterioration of important relationships. Work Performance: Persistent stress and exhaustion can also spill over into our professional lives. It may result in decreased productivity, difficulty concentrating, and a reduced ability to meet deadlines or complete tasks efficiently. This can harm our career prospects and job satisfaction, potentially leading to burnout. Self-Care: Our ability to take care of ourselves, both physically and mentally, often takes a backseat when we're overwhelmed and stressed. We may neglect healthy eating habits, regular exercise, and relaxation practices, which can exacerbate our exhaustion and negatively impact our overall well-being. Purpose and Motivation: Chronic stress and exhaustion can make it difficult to maintain a clear sense of purpose and motivation. We might start questioning our goals, values, and the direction of our lives. This can lead to a sense of aimlessness and dissatisfaction, as we struggle to find meaning in our daily activities. Dr. Shenelle DuBose's discussion on the podcast "Educators Moving On" sheds light on how chaos in our lives can affect all these crucial aspects. Accepting mediocrity in our lives can hold us back from reaching our full potential and achieving our dreams. Settling for average or ordinary results can create a comfort zone that prevents us from taking risks and growing as individuals. It is important to push beyond mediocrity and strive for excellence in all aspects of life, embracing challenges and continuous improvement. In this episode of the Educators Moving On Podcast Dr. Shenelle DuBose is joined with Dr. Brandy Peer to discuss the mindset of mediocrity. They will be discussing: How you need to identify mediocrity in your life How you have to be willing to move away from it. How to show yourself grace How to accept the past to move forward How to set the new standard or mindset "Accepting mediocrity or even just having the mindset of mediocrity hurts you in defining your value and your worth because if you're looking for acceptance from other people or need that external acceptance to feel validated, that means that my value and my worth are determined by your response to the thousand percent that I give to you. Rather than me saying, you know what, I'm enough! Everything I do is great! And that's fine. Even if I don't get that back in return, I know that I am valuable enough that I don't need the validation." Have you ever heard of Superwoman Syndrome? If you haven't, I'm sure you've felt it. Being a wife, a mom, an aunt, a sister, a leader of the PTA, a skilled educator managing classrooms, organizing playdates, birthday parties, and all the things in between, without spending time on you. In this episode, I'm chatting with Melanie Battles from Scholars for the Soul: An Educational Solutions Firm, where we discuss superwoman syndrome and how to remove the stigma so you can focus on yourself. How you can: take the cape off to focus on your own identity how not to feel resentful to those finding it easier to rest and reset How to be consistent in your commitment to your growth and rest. "Where are you trying to go and what does it take for you to get there? Setting that routine, setting your timers, if it's getting up before all your kids in the house. That was something big for me. I wanted to get up before everybody else started getting up, moving around, asking me for this, wanting to do that. I need to get up early so I can have time just for me. And when I did that, I was more patient with my children. When I did that, I had more patience for my husband because my cup was being filled. Not thinking that I just have to wake up and as soon as my feet hit the ground, I'm superwoman. No. Taking the cape off means I know I need to be filled, so let me schedule time within my day to fill my cup. Because I can't pour into my family, I can't pour into my students. I can't pour into my community if I don't have anything to pour." What traditions have you had to let go of as you have ventured into adulthood? Why do cultures and people and families choose to let go of traditions? After all? Traditions bring a sense of security. They bring cohesion, unity, and quite frankly, memories of the past. But what happens? When a tradition has run its course and is it no longer works or our lives change, when we get older, we gain greater access to information and the tradition no longer serves us like: Putting up the Christmas tree around your hectic schedule - not when traditions dictated Wearing white after labor day Black eye peas on New Years Ever and a few more and many more. Learn what traditions you can leave behind to gain peace and stability for your own life. https://go.educatorsmovingon.com Follow Dr Shennelle DuBose: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/educatorsmovingon/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/EducatorsMovingOn Join us February 18-19th, 2023 for the Million Dollar Mindset CEO Retreat in Cancun, Mexico. ngon.com/mdm-retreat/ The 5 Biggest Mistakes Educators Make When Shifting to Educational Consulting Free Webinar: https://go.educatorsmovingon.com/5-mistakes-webinar/
