Fully & Completely: Redux"In Between Evolution"Hosts: jD & Greg LeGros | Guest: Toronto Mike | Fully & Completely: ReduxThe EpisodeThere are records you fall into immediately - and then there are the ones that sneak up on you. "In Between Evolution" is absolutely the second kind. The Tragically Hip's 2004 record is one of their most slept-on, most politically charged, and - depending on who you ask - one of their very best. jD and Greg LeGros dig in track by track, joined by Toronto's favourite podcast man, Toronto Mike. It's feisty. It's got punk energy. And for a record that got passed over in 2004, it holds up like an absolute bruiser. So there's that.Guest SpotlightToronto Mike from Toronto, OntarioToronto Mike is the podcaster and blogger behind torontomic.com and Toronto Miked - a fiercely independent Toronto-centric podcast that's been going longer than most people can remember. He's a passionate Hip fan who - full disclosure - once had serious plans to launch his own Tragically Hip album-by-album podcast series. He abandoned those plans specifically because jD and Greg were doing it too well. That's not spin. That's what he said on mic."I went into the podcast kind of tiny bit hoping it would suck."- Toronto Mike, on hearing Fully & Completely for the first timeWhat's In This OneA full track-by-track of "In Between Evolution" plus the cultural context of June 2004 - which, as it turns out, is a lot. Here's some of what you're getting into:Why this is probably The Tragically Hip's most overtly political record - and why it had no choice but to be (they recorded it in Seattle, surrounded by American media, one year after the U.S. went into Iraq)'Heaven Is a Better Place Today' - a tribute to Dan Snyder built on funeral clichés and sports colloquialisms that somehow makes you cry. Every time.'Summer's Killing Us' - the song Greg would play for anyone who's never heard of this band. Not even officially released as a single. Absolutely should have been.'Gus the Polar Bear from Central Park' - a slow burn. Toronto Mike did not like it at first. He's come around. We dig into why.'Vaccination Scar' - the actual lead single, and a song that gets a bit more complicated the more you think about it'It Can't Be Nashville Every Night' - the one with the la-la-oos in the chorus that should not work, and absolutely does. Possibly a Toby Keith thing. Possibly a Dixie Chicks thing. Definitely a great song.'One Night in Copenhagen' - band turmoil, Gord's solo career pulling on the seams, and that one line about a payphone in the snow that Greg still talks about'Goodnight Josephine' - the closer that sounds like late-period Springsteen and contains some of the most beautiful lyrics Gord ever put down on tapeThe Stanley Cup Final, the Grey Cup halftime show (yes, The Hip played it), a commemorative Tragically Hip CD, and how the 2004 Leafs playoff run ended a sketch troupe's road trip to LAThe Cultural Climate: June 2004Greg always brings the goods on context, and June 2004 is a rich one. "In Between Evolution" landed in the middle of a musical year that included American Idiot, College Dropout, Funeral, Hot Fuss, and Songs for the Deaf. Commercially, the charts were a very different story - Usher, Evanescence, Josh Groban, and a lot of stuff these three would rather forget. It's a great time to be a music fan if you knew where to look. This was a record that knew exactly where it was looking.Pocket SongsAt the end of every record, we each pull one track to carry forward to the playlist.jD: 'Goodnight Josephine'Greg: 'It Can't Be Nashville Every Night'Toronto Mike: 'Are We Family'Why This Record MattersBecause it got slept on. Even in the band's own documentary, this one gets two seconds. And that's bananas - because it is a deep, huge favourite, and it is one of their very best. It's a hard rocker. It's a protest record. It's a record about loss, and change, and what happens when the things you love don't get to stay the same. It's the most guitar-forward record they ever made, and it has the audacity to rhyme its chorus with la-la-oos.Spend time with this album. This album is waiting for you.About Fully & Completely: ReduxFully & Completely: Redux is the reunion of the original Fully & Completely podcast - the show that started it all in 2018. jD and Greg LeGros go back through The Tragically Hip's full catalogue, album by album, track by track. Scott Schara is a nationally recognized expert commentator on the dangers of incentivized healthcare. He launched a landmark lawsuit, Schara vs. Ascension Health et al, which concluded in June, 2025, after a three-week jury trial which he calls, "a win for the system." Leading up to this he warned about the dangers of incentivized healthcare and where it leads. It was back in January of 2022 that Crosstalk introduced listeners to Scott, who was in sorrow over the loss of his daughter Grace, age 19, who passed away in October of 2021. Scott believes she was a victim of the medical, industrial complex after having been hospitalized during the COVID-19 pandemic. It wasn't long into her hospital stay that, as Scott indicates and hospital testimony was given, that Grace received a deadly combination of drugs. All of this was done under what's called, "standard operating procedures." Review this broadcast as Scott begins by retelling Grace's story, a story that had Scott wondering which road to travel. He chose the road directed by the frontline COVID-19 critical care doctors and that system, as noted, proved to be a deadly one. But why? There's more to this tragic story and what it points to as Scott sheds light on the following: Are we seeing health care rationing in America today? What's really behind the phrase, "Informed consent"? Why does Scott use the term, "incentivized" so often? Does the American legal system provide cover for the medical system? Is medical murder the number one cause of death in America?

Bonus from the March 5th, 2026 Rumble Live Stream.A gunman wearing clothes with an Iranian flag design and declaring "Property of Allah" killed two people and wounded 14 early Sunday at a Texas bar, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. The FBI is investigating the shooting, which erupted a day after the U.S. and Israel launched an attack on Iran, as a potential act of terrorism. Michael A. Letts, founder and CEO of InVest USA and author of Truth, Lies and Control: Finding Hope in an Upside-Down World, joins me to discuss the issue. Is the Government Legally Killing Us? That's not just a reasonable question more of us should be asking; it is the title of Scott Schara's (Grace's Dad) new book. It is Scott's relentless search for the truth after the death of his daughter, Grace Schara, in a Wisconsin hospital. Framed as both a legal and moral reckoning, Schara draws on court filings, regulatory history, and firsthand experience to uncover an agenda that you may have a hard time believing. It establishes that the medical system we've been programmed to trust is killing us and that the legal system protects the guilty—what the author calls "the crime of the millennium." Scott joins me to tell us about the book and update us on what has happened since we last spoke.Michael A. Leila Afshari's brother went missing in January when he joined protestors filling the streets of Iran. They were calling for regime change but instead were met with bullets. Thousands were killed and many more arrested. The internet was shut down and Iranian Canadians were left in the dark, not knowing what had happened to their loved ones. This documentary traces their efforts to search for the truth of what is going on in Iran.

In Episode 3 of MAHA Living, Jordan Sather and Nate Prince take a deep dive into the toxic chemicals found in everyday personal care and household products. The conversation focuses on how common hygiene items, such as toothpaste, deodorant, lotions, shampoo, makeup, sunscreen, and fragrances, are absorbed through the skin and directly into the bloodstream, disrupting hormones, the nervous system, and immune function. The hosts walk through published studies detailing the health risks associated with parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, PFAS “forever chemicals,” heavy metals, and synthetic fragrances. They also examine how these substances accumulate in the body, contribute to chronic illness, and pollute the environment through water systems and soil. Beyond identifying the problem, the episode offers practical alternatives, discussing simpler ingredient lists, natural product options, and lifestyle changes that reduce reliance on toxic products. The discussion emphasizes informed label reading, personal responsibility, and the broader environmental and economic consequences of consumer choices.

Plastic is everywhere. Over the past century, we've stuffed our landfills, lined the bottom of the ocean floor, and even managed to get microscopic particles floating through our blood and bodies. Topping things off, the industry is only growing. Plastics simply do not go away, and neither will this problem unless we do something about it. This episode or whatever these less than 10 minute long things are...is about the moment you realize your conversations — your relationships — your life — have been living in shallow water. It's about the loneliness of small talk, the ache of unrealized depth, and the strange tragedy of being surrounded by human beings who have entire galaxies inside them… and almost no one dives deep enough to see it.If you've felt disconnected from the world's surface-level chatter…If you miss conversations that breathe…If you long to witness and be witnessed…you might want to check this one out.Because depth is not dangerous.Depth is oxygen. And you were never meant to survive at the surface of your own life.

The 9th Waste, toxic conflict, ego, misalignment, and fear-based competition is rotting teams, projects, and even nations from the inside out. In this episode, Jason breaks down why our obsession with "winning" is destroying cooperation, how it's holding back the entire construction industry, and what it will take to rebuild a culture based on respect, alignment, and total participation. He says it's a good bet that someone born today has a better chance of dying from something AI does rather than finishing high school. Soares is convinced that once AI exceeds human intelligence, it will not be controllable, and the unintended consequences could be catastrophic. Soares is the co-author of a book that explains why he is firmly on the side of the AI doomsayers. It's called, If Anybody Builds It, Everyone Dies: Why Superhuman AI Would Kill Us All.

Healthcare is broken — and everyone feels it. Appointments are rushed. Costs keep rising. Clinicians are burned out. Patients are frustrated. And the system seems to be hurting the very people it's supposed to help. In this episode of The Health Feast, I'm joined by Dr. Todd Otten — a board-certified family doctor and Navy veteran — who nearly left medicine after seeing how deeply the system was failing both his patients and his peers. But instead of walking away, he chose to speak out. Todd co-wrote Ripple of Change with one of his patients and is now producing a powerful new documentary, Suck It Up, Buttercup, to reveal what's really happening inside healthcare — and what needs to change. Whether you're a clinician on the edge of burnout or a patient who's felt dismissed and discouraged, this conversation will help you make sense of your experience — and give you a glimpse of what better could look like. What We Cover: What's actually causing clinician burnout — and why it's not just long hours The hidden trauma of medical training What “moral injury” means — and why it's driving people out of medicine How broken incentives lead to bad outcomes for both patients and doctors Why Dr. Otten nearly left medicine — and what pulled him back The power of solidarity, and why we need collective change What you can do — even if you feel powerless in the system
If you want to get leaner and live longer, check out https://milliondollarbodylabs.com/ I used to think my pro athlete status meant health, but I was wrong. Is your comfortable, convenient life actually making you weaker? I sat down with Michael Kummer, who shared his journey from professional athlete dealing with gut issues to becoming a health expert and supplement company founder. We explored the idea that comfort is killing us, arguing that we must deliberately expose ourselves to hermetic stressors like cold and exercise to build physical and mental resilience. I learned how stacking small wins reinforces a new, healthier identity. We also dove deep into his dietary philosophy—focusing on local, seasonal, animal-based foods—and his approach to raising resilient children in a modern, easy world. Key Takeaways ● Comfort is detrimental because it removes the necessary hermetic stressors required for physical and mental strength. ● If you don't stress your body, your structure gets weaker; if you don't challenge your brain, you lose neural connections. ● Choosing to do something incredibly hard (like cold plunging) builds resilience, making non-chosen challenges significantly easier to handle. ● The more hard stuff you do, the more it can provide a dopamine response, making you enjoy difficult activities. ● Building positive momentum starts with small wins, such as making your bed first thing in the morning. ● Every action you take reinforces the identity of the person you are becoming. ● You will pay for cheap food one way or the other: either less upfront and more in medical bills later, or a little more upfront and no medical bills later. ● Nutrition should prioritize animal-based products, supplemented seasonally and locally with plants, while mitigating anti-nutrients. ● Organ meats are excellent sources of micronutrients that are crucial for endurance, especially when the body is under stress. It often feels easiest to do what's right in front of us. And that's lovely, a lot of the time, and uses our strengths!And... it starts to feel bad if we're in whack-a-mole mode almost all of the time, and don't have spacious time to comprehend the whole of our experience. This ties into our sensory needs and leans more into the psychological side of these needs.Mentioned in episode:Free Workshops registration linkLink about the Sep-Oct live round of Love Your Brain coming soonResources:Transcript DocMattia's NewsletterLike Your Brain community space (Patreon/Discord) Hosted on Acast. In this interview, Lord Ridley examines the pervasive pessimism shaping climate narratives within the media and academia. He addresses the transformative power of affordable energy for developing nations and warns against beliefs about energy and climate that ignore the needs of those in poverty.Ridley also criticises the politicisation of science in both climate and Covid modelling, arguing it distorts evidence, suppresses debate, and drives harmful policies that undermine economic and social progress. He urges a shift towards optimism driven by innovation and evidence, advocating for rational energy policies and transparent scientific inquiry to foster prosperity and address global challenges effectively.Lord Matthew Ridley is a British science writer, journalist, and hereditary peer with a background in zoology and a distinguished career spanning academia, business, and public service. He holds a DPhil from Oxford University and is best known for his best-selling books on science, economics, and human progress, including The Rational Optimist, Genome, and How Innovation Works. Ridley served as chairman of the UK-based bank Northern Rock and was a member of the House of Lords from 2013 to 2021, where he contributed to debates on science, technology, and innovation policy. This interview was filmed at ARC London 2025.

Americans die younger and faster than the residents of almost every other rich country. Why? There's gun violence, drug overdoses, and car crashes. Young people are much more likely to die from these accidents than those in other countries. Just as importantly, Americans are more likely to die from chronic illness, especially heart disease and metabolic diseases. We eat more and worse food. We're arguably exposed to more environmental toxins. We move around less, too. Kevin Klatt, a research scientist at UC Berkeley and a nutritionist, joins us in the first episode of our new miniseries on health. We take on the hottest topic in the diet world today: ultra-processed foods. If you have questions, observations, or ideas for future episodes, email us at PlainEnglish@Spotify.com.
