The chemistry between JJ and Matt is evident as they engage in lively back-and-forth discussions about the ska music scene. However, what really stands out are the appearances of Sean McCabe and Jimmy Doyle, who represent the Tri-State Area. Their contributions add a fresh perspective to the podcast and it would be great to see them on more often.
One of the best aspects of The Hornpod podcast is its informative nature. JJ and Matt go above and beyond to provide context for a wide variety of ska recordings. Their witty banter keeps listeners engaged throughout each episode, while still providing in-depth analysis on ska music. Whether you're a casual listener or a diehard fan, this format caters to all audiences and ensures an enjoyable listening experience.
While it's hard to find any major flaws in The Hornpod podcast, one minor criticism could be the occasional lack of diverse perspectives. While JJ and Matt present their opinions passionately, it would be interesting to hear from more guest speakers or experts in the field of ska music. This would add even more depth to the discussions and provide different viewpoints for listeners to consider.
In conclusion, The Hornpod podcast is an outstanding listen for any ska lover. With its detailed discussions, entertaining banter, and informative format, it truly hits all the right notes. Whether you're discovering new music or rediscovering old favorites, this podcast provides a comprehensive overview of the ska genre. In 2008, members of the New Orleans ska-punk band Fatter Than Albert launched Community Records, an umbrella beneath which a nationwide subculture of DIY outsider ska swapped ideas and fans. It wasn't the beginning, but it was one of the defining moments of what we're reluctantly calling the MySpace age. Thanks to social media, bands thriving in their regional scenes could build new networks and share resources in the shadow of a music industry that had no interest in ska as anything but a punchline. Our guests this episode are from two bands who were around for that era and who also have recently dropped great new albums. Will and Jonzee from Stuck Lucky discuss their new album Counting Curses (2024, Ska Punk International), and Boofish and Nic from Brunt of It tell us about "It's A Mad, Bad, Sad, Rad World" (2025, Jump Up Records), and the four of them tell us what they saw back then and what's different these days.Listener feedback!
