The Horse's mouth is a podcast that lets you into the life journey of Artists, Musicians, Surfers and beautiful people with great life stories alike.
In this episode I had the good fortune of speaking with none other than Michael Ferris of Ferris Property - He's an amazing human having a second crack at reorganizing and living life more on his terms, you might say !!! The indoctrination of the human soul is real, the hamster wheel, the machine, the big G being Government wants you asleep at the wheel, pay your money to us and shut up.....Sorry, that was me getting on my high Horse,,,, but Michael has peeked behind the curtain and decided no more sleepy time, life is precious and he's not interested in feverishly chasing fun tokens for no good reason. The sleeping giant within has stirred, you might say - we cover a lot of ground in this chat, from near life-ending situations, to travel, to getting in tune with one's own inner voice and trajectory., Thanks so much Michael for coming over and having the chat yeeeew
In this episode, I had the good fortune of speaking with Tina Tainui. Around here, she's best known as a yoga teacher and founder of OurSpace Yoga in Torquay… but no no no—Tina is so much more than that. She's a serious force of nature with a hell of a story to tell. Originally from New Zealand and raised in the school of hard knocks (seriously!), Tina's life took a sharp turn thanks to a chance encounter with a stranger—maybe even a guardian angel, depending on how you look at it. That moment gave her the courage to get out of her situation and go live, really live, and experience the world. And that's exactly what she did. She's been everywhere, man—Rubbing shoulders, cutting hair, and partying with some of the great artists and cultural trailblazers of our time. Without giving too much away… I hope you enjoy our chat. Thanks, Tina.
Today on the Horses Mouth, I was joined by Dr Harley Mackenzie — a long-time Torquay local, leader in the energy sector, and a passionate advocate for reform. Dr Mackenzie has just announced he's running for the federal seat of Corangamite, representing the Legalise Cannabis Party. His campaign isn't just about changing laws — it's about health, personal freedom, and bringing some much-needed common sense to the national conversation on cannabis. As he puts it: “The war on drugs has failed. It's time for a smarter approach.” www.legalisecannabis.org.au I hope you enjoy our chat
This week, I had the good fortune of chatting with none other than Max Cakarik. Max is a mate of mine who never stops surprising me—I'm honestly in awe of how he keeps leveling up, taking on life's challenges, and then pushing even further. He's a young buck on a mission—went back to school, threw himself into yoga, tackled some heavy mental health battles, launched a magazine, landed a gig with Rip Curl, and is always on the hunt for waves of consequence. And his recent, on-a-whim trip to Hawaii? Epic yarn and story of aboslutly living life to the full Stoked for ya, Max—absolute weapon. Keep charging and thanks for the chat
In this episode, I had the great pleasure of sitting down with none other than Daniel Wald. Daniel is an all-around great guy and a true seeker in every sense of the word. Well-traveled and deeply passionate about music, he understands its power to touch the soul and bring people together. Beyond that, Daniel is a teacher of Vortex Healing—a unique and awesome form of energy healing (vortexhealing.org, danielwald.com). He stopped by for a chat just before packing up with his family to move back to Europe, and I'm so grateful we got to dive into all things life. Cheers, Daniel!
In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Naheda Hassan of Naheda's Dips at Prahran Market. Naheda's journey to where she is today is nothing short of inspiring—her story is one of perseverance, love, family, hard work, and determination. Her infectious enthusiasm for life and generosity shine through, even in the toughest moments. Naheda runs an incredible business alongside her sons at Prahran Market, and if you've never been, it's a must-visit! Next time you're in the area, be sure to stop by and "get your dip on." I hope you enjoy our conversation!

In this episode, I had the good fortune of speaking with Craig Garrard better known as Boots. This is the second time Boots has been on the Horse's mouth, if you haven't heard his first go back to episode 3 and give it a spin, in that episode boots was fresh off the back of surviving a brain aneurysm and as a result having double brain surgery, a truly wild tale of survival ! In this episode we chime back in on where he's at today, leaving his old business and starting the Joymill surfboard factory in Torquay, we had a great yarn exploring diet, health, modern pressures, surfing, following intuition to see what kinda ra ra you can extract out of your days on earth with loved ones and keeping the ship upright as we creep up there on the ol totem pole of age. Cheers Boota Hope you enjoy our chat
Well It's been 9 years and two months since Corey and I last spoke on the Horses Mouth ! WTF Seriously feels a bit like yesterday, but it's not! For those of you that don't know who Corey is, he's a master craftsman surfboard shaper, father, husband, and surfer, his lineage runs deep, through a close relationship with his late great father Rusty Graham, who guided him in the industry since he was a little tacker sweeping foam out of shaping bays of some of Australias best shapers and looking for the illusive brass magnet ! Corey has been on a wild ride of his own within his craft, losing faith, walking away, coming back, getting lost and emerging through blood sweat and tears to be renowned as one of Aussie's best surfboard shapers, and to solidify this further he's recently been invited to be one of eleven shapers in the Stab magazine electric acid surfboard test, huge honor. Anyway you get the gist he's real deal legend and foam frother I hope you enjoy our chat
In this episode I had the good fortune of chatting with Elana Connor @peregrinasails, Sailor, Captain, global traverser, she's sailing around the world solo but I can't not mention her trusty four-legged companion Zia, together on their trusty boat Winfola are sprinkling fairy dust one port at a time to those who need help the most, our kids and especially those of abusive households or in the foster care system, as a childhood abuse survivor, she knows exactly how hard it is for kids in this situation to find hope or role models, and knows exactly how much meeting one person and having a good experience with them can alter the trajectory of one's life. Want to know more about Elana or reach out to her www.peregrinasails.com is her website if you're inspired by Elana's life and mission she has a patrion linked in her website for donations, everything helps ! @peregrinasails is her Instagram She'll be at Hobson's Bay doing a homelessness charity on 5 October www.latitude.asn.au is the link for that And if you're wondering about the Geelong sail marine trade program she mentions in the chat the link is here www.makingwaves.au Elana thanks so much for being a guest on HM and keep making the world a healthier place one port at a time : )
In this episode I had the good fortune of speaking with award-winning photographer Katey Shearer, Katey is such an awesome Human, She's a real tough cookie, a wolf in sheep's clothing you might say, to hold true to a creative life of any sort, let alone thrive, isn't for the faint-hearted. Katey is a true free thinker and always radiates positivity with a big smile when I've seen her out lurking with a lens. I do hope you enjoy our chat....& Katey thanks for coming over and hopping into the captain's chair.
This 100th Episode I had the good fortune of speaking with singer-songwriter Ella Sweeney. Ella Sweeney is a force, She's such an awesome musician If you've not heard her music stop reading go to Spotify type in Ella Sweeney and give it a spin, Ella has performed all over the place, pubs clubs festivals weddings parties anything haha, as she discusses some of her earlier gigs this will make more sense! When she's not onstage she works in Youth Development which is such an important space to be giving ones time, especially in the modern world, So yeah she really walks the walk - and is such a great inspiration to kids and adults alike of what one can do to make community stronger and a better place, and when she's not helping the youth of Australia or on stage she can be quite often found lurking the coastal carparks looking for a surf ---- Just as long as it's not hair day !! Ella thanks so much for coming over and I hope you enjoy our chat !
Max de Been is one of the nicest lethal weapons walking around in plain clothes, He's super happy-go-lucky friendly chiller - but don't be fooled - When he's not playing golf or surfing he's Gee'd up and coaching or rolling at DE BEEN Brazilian Jiu Jitzu Acadamy in Torquay which is the longest running BJJ Acadamy in Australia, Max's resume reads like a superhero, cast in a save the world Hollywood script, youngest BJJ blackbelt in Australia, youngest black belt National champion, 3rd Place World Championships, 1x Brazilian National Champion, 11x Pan Pacific Champion, 7 x Australian National Champion, 10 x Victorian State Champion, Now if that wrap sheet isn't getting on to your team of amigo's to help you save the world when the intergalactic baddies come, Idk who is ! Donny 'The Don' Allcroft started life in England in the 1940s - From this day and age that period of humanity truly looks like the wild west, the shit you could do on the daily back then, would have you on the BBC top 10 most read in today's gentrified modern world. The Don Hails from this period, Good with his hands, he followed in his father's footsteps as a plumber, before moving to Australia in his late teens and being drawn into what was the beginning of a surfing life not just for him but for many that shaped what modern surfing is today! It wasn't long before The Don was a local in Torquay and regarded as one of the great craftsman of foam - his passion, knowledge, and thirst have him still today highly regarded and connected in a league of legends, Shaping for Pyke, Ripcurl, Mark Richards, Dick Brewer and his own brand Sunbird Surfboards. The Don is a true gentleman of the Land and Sea, He knows how to yarn with the best of them, and sometimes its a decoy so watch him in the water, one of the elders of Winki. I feel privileged to have had Donny over for a chin wag Hope you enjoy our chat

What a pleasure it was meeting David and his wife Claudia, thanks so much for the amazing experience and being so welcoming and awesome with me. David is from Colombia, he now resides in Melbourne with his wife, and what a journey it has been for him, and how life throws us curve balls, David's dream from a young age was to become a Doctor, and he got there with flying colors, But was it enough ? were the lures of prestige and modern world too much? David went to the edge of life and death and is back to tell the story from an amazingly full and rich place he now resides in, in his heart, wiser, happier and still on a healing and being of service to others journey. Feel so blessed to have met David and Claudia I hope you enjoy our chat
This chat I had the amazing fortune of speaking with none other than Jack McCoy, For those of you who don't know who Jack is you need to pull your head out of the bloody sand and slap yourself around the face, Jack is probably the most influential surf filmmaker of the past 50 years, his films, the cinematography in and out of the water, music choice and humor all have been game-changing in the industry. Jacks a long time hero of mine, his films shaped me at a time of my life when I was desperate for an anchor, and my imagination of living a life somewhat like what Jack was portraying in Bunyip Dreaming and The Green Iguana was second to none. When Jack said yes to having a chat with me I was beyond stoked. So if you're out there Jack, Thanks so much ! I super enjoyed the hang. On May 1st Jack starts Australian tour - The 25th Anniversary of the 'Occumentary' , I'll drop a link in here - I'm going to Lorne screening can't wait https://www.jackmccoy.com/occy-tour
Cheyenne is such a present-in-the-moment amazing human, Truly a seeker and or searcher of her soul and the natural world around her. I first noticed her playing with a friend of mine's daughter at the beach and she seemed so free and uninhibited, and I was like is she on Mushrooms, in a joking manner, and my friend laughed and said noooo that's just Cheyenne - She's just free and doesn't care, refreshing yeah, she's on a journey and she's just been in India studying for three months, now visiting Australia, she's hugged 35 million people --- What I spat out ! will she come on the podcast ? Cheyenne is a true beautiful open soul that is going deep with healing and what it means to be a human who truly is connected to a deeper aspect of self that is rarely seen in Western society. I thank you so much for coming over and having a chat Cheyenne
Jamie Powell I first met Jamie Powell at the Jan Juc Boardriders many moons ago, He told me He like the Horses Mouth so I instantly liked him, it was 3 to 4 ft wild onshore day and He was in my first heat, it was one of those surfs where its hard to see where people are sitting and what they are doing, bit of a washing machine, I managed to see him take off on one and watched him race a section and boost a nice punt, and I thought fuck! who the fuck is this guy. Jamie is a musician and is in the band 3 Humps on Spotify...check em out they rock !...by day he's a civil engineer who works super hard and knows how to grind it out and when he's finished with work ( by night ) he's a rogue underground slab hunter, forever on a mission to jag a cooking left. This podcast is bit of a two-part series, All business up front and party at the back. I admire the way Jamie gets about and gets it done Thanks heaps for coming over Jamie Powell Yeeeew
Gerard Black is such a wonderful human, I feel honored to have had a Yak with the great man. I do love talking to an artist, but especially when they are so connected to land and lineage, there is a real awareness Gerard carries. Gerard is originally from Worimi Country Newcastle area But has spent most of his time on Wadawurrung land around Torquay, till his latest shift a bit further west. Gerard's art can be found far and wide, to name but a few - Geelong Art Centre, Newcastle Knights jersey, The Australian Open, Xavier Rudd, Patagonia, and on Bodys alike as he and his wife also have a Tidal Tattoo in Torquay. Xavier Morello is one of those guys, I like bumping into, He is a family man, who's always up to something and always has something funny to talk about. He's always on a family adventure of some sort, mold certainly doesn't grow under the Morello's feet or he's driving around in a hugely pimped and colorful Wildlife Xposure van - a Bit of a local Steve Irwin you might say ! quite enthusiastic like Steve too !!! We chat in the surf a lot and Xav is always up for a creative yarn, he's got a wide scope of intelligence and intuition and often leaves me scratching my head --- But I didn't quite know exactly what he was doing with all the animals I'd see him with in pictures on the social medias, So I thought what better opportunity than to get him in for a chat on Horses Mouth! So chat it up we did! I hope you enjoy our yarn and idle through Xav's life with a few laughs along the way ! Thanks Xav

Mark Willett is a dude whos been on one hell of a ride ! literally and figuratively. Such a great guy is Mark, I met Mark through surfing and chatting at 13th Beach and have kept in touch ever since., He's been a super supportive person to me on my journey with Horse's Mouth which I just love. Helps keep me inspired. During this chat Mark tells me about his growing up and how in a way following his heart and finding a life on and around the ocean has given him a life beyond his wildest dreams, He's surfed all over the world and been / still is a professional sailor who's raced sailboats around the globe, in waters and storms that'd have you wishing you were curled up at the feet of your parent's bed wishing it was just a bad dream! Darren Dickson 'Surfboards' is one of those guys - who is human after all ! the guy for as long as I've known him has a smile on his face and is always stoked and up for a chat! But when I bumped into him late last year he was more than stoked - it was his first surf back after a pretty heavy procedure in Hospital and it was his first surf back! in 6 months and he was soooo STOKED ! Dicko is one of those people on the coast who the grommet inside never left, He's a wealth of knowledge and a master craftsman of as they say in the industry 'Mowin foam' shaping surfboards. He's always on the go, so when the doctors told him to take it easy, I've no doubt it was a tough pill to swallow. But he's back and up to his usual self mowin foam and hitting the road in search of uncrowded waves... I hope you enjoy our chat on the life and times of Darren Dickson
Michael Judd is one of those guys, just one of those guys, now I hate to use the pun or the phrase or even manifest such an ordeal BUT Juddy is just one of those guys you'd like to have in the trenches with you if it ever came to that, he's a scrapper, hard worker, noble, honest caring and knows the fragility of life,,, he's a hard at it kinda guys which you will soon realise listening to our chat. I hope you enjoy our chat as much as I enjoyed having it yeeew
This Horses Mouth I had the pleasure of speaking with non-other than the creator of Mind head Magazine Olie Georgiou, Olie is truly living his dream, He has spawn an amazing magazine that focuses on art and Culture, it's a non-commercial look at what's real and great between the cracks of an ever marching corporate sensitive and at all cost please the sponsors kind of world, Olie doesn't subscribe to such horse shit, and if you don't either go to www.mindhead.bigcartel.com and grab yourself a quality publication or some merch you won't regret it. Olie is such a vibrant dude always a pleasure to bump into in the surf or out and about, he's always out there milking the day. I hope you enjoy our chat
Doug 'Claw' Warbrick Recently turned 80 - hard to believe! he still has a cheeky and energetic demeanor who still cares about the ocean and the future of surfing today as much as he did probably 65 years ago. Claw is an enigmatic soul whose vision and dedication have helped further / Shift and pioneer professional surfing where it is today. He co-founded Ripcurl in 1969 with Brian ‘Sing Ding' Singer and they truly never looked back. Claw's vision is apparent from a young age and through hard work and dedication the stars seriously aligned or maybe it was just written in the stars! It seems he was hell-bent on an ocean way of life long before there was an industry or a pot to piss in. I still remember Claw coming into the shop ( Ripcurl ) when I worked there in the late 90s just to ask how everything is going and showing interest in all levels of the business and I remember thinking through red eyes how impressive that was. I hope you enjoy our chat
In this Horses mouth I had the pleasure of chatting to Western Australian charger Ollie Henry, He's a professional surfer sponsored to chase waves and do his thing by Rusty - Ollie is one of those guys who gets the job done. Example we were chatting cars after our chat out on the street - I asked him if he had a duel battery as I know he spends a lot of time on the road camping and chasing slabs, he said no,,, would like one but its bucks at the moment I don't wanna spend - you can still go bush and camp and do all the things you need without one ----- I love this attitude as I thought ahhh I cant go long range without one --- get the job done with what you have at hand !!! you don't need all the bells and whistles you just need a sense of adventure and a set of gonads If you're chasing the sort of slabs Ollie is after !!! Not to be sexist but the guy is next fucken level and it's a saying more than anything re Gonad Man... bla bla bla Ollie is good fucken people and I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out and chatting - I hope you enjoy our yak !
Tim Stevenson is a real-life dude who walks the walk, he's understated as fuck - keeps his cards close to his chest from time to time, but in this chat we delve under the hood to see what makes Timmy tick. The guy is a waterman, really that is enough said! but he truly is...I think I live my life by the winds tides and swell.... BUT Tim takes it to another level, he's constructed his life so he can chase waves all over the globe at the drop of a hat or the sniff of a red blob on a swell map. He's the winner of the last 50-year storm international big wave contest in honor of Sean brooks here at Bells beach, also one of the founding members of the Jan Juc Boardriders and ex-president. So all this said the man has and is living A LIFE !!!!! full of tails and experience I hope you enjoy our chat
Rousa is the real deal and one of the respected elders of our tribe, and I feel grateful and fortunate to have had him over for a cuppa and a chat about life, what it means to walk the earth in a "Modern world', his journey and addiction to salt water and the octane that comes with it. Rousa is part of the historical fabric of surfing in Torquay, his influence and friendships are wide and deep which is a reflection of his being, I had many requests to get Rousa on the horse's mouth and we were chatting last year about it - But he had a to sneak into Hospital for heart bypass surgery!!!!.....He is back and what a force of nature he is Thanks for popping in Rousa and I hope ya'll enjoy our chat
Duncan Anderson is a force, He's the Co-founder and CEO of Edrolo, which is reinventing how we teach our young, providing support with an easier-to-understand curriculum for students and teachers from years 7 -12 based around an antiquated system. Duncan is a sponge he has a level of drive and thirst for knowledge that is seriously next level, which left me scratching my head, and enjoying the mental gymnastics of his sentences, words, and thoughts - I'd go as far as to say Duncan is an outlier. I hope you enjoy our Chat
Casey Egan is one of those guys who's followed his heart from the jump. He's grown up under the guide of his charging Dad Andrew Egan at bird rock which has given him some barrel riding skills and a larry layback which is arguably second to none - although he proclaims to not being able to go left! He's a kept man to loving Ella and his son Otis, and he and Ella have been on a journey for a long time, that's taken them far and wide. Casey has worked in clothing design for 20-odd years taking him abroad and also starting his own denim business. On top of that after a stretch away he returned home and became one of the founding members of the Jan Juc boardriders club. I hope you enjoy our chat as much as I enjoyed chatting with him
Zeb Walsh is a living breathing Bat outta hell, a family man, and an all-around good egg. he's the brand manager Aus for FCD surfboards ( Fletcher Chouinard ) son of Yvon Chouinard Patagonia Which is an amazing company with a mission statement that goes beyond profit! a trailblazer in the world and surf industry. In this chat we go through this among other things. hope you enjoy !!
Virginia Martin has many nicknames but BÚL is her fashion label and the childhood name that most know her by. In this chat the amazingly talented designer from Melbourne forcibly jumps in the hot seat and tells me what life was like as an angsty teenager with hopes and dreams of becoming a force behind the sewing machine and her journey of trials and tribulations to living her dream as a Fashion Designer, búl has created a unique and innovative signature style within the industry. I hope you enjoy our chat
Shaun O'Callaghan is one of those people that I don't see all the time even though we blow around the same town. Still, when I do it's usually a great chat - O'y is a lightning rod of ideas and high octane energy which I love, the banter is always on. Even though it may start left field and loose, it usually turns deep and philosophical pretty quick which I also love. O'ys a family man and hard worker who asks a lot of himself, through our chat I learned more about the real estate game and personal development which follows that path - whether that is true of all real estate agents or just O'ys journey through I'm yet to figure out :) I hope you enjoy our chat Link to Tool 46&2 Subtitle meaning and breakdown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogzRhlezx2s

Will Hanigan is one of those guys you meet that are truly running their own race, having grown up in the North West of Western Australia on a Pearl Farm, His adventures pearling and learning the business of pearls are quite uncanny and fascinating, His inquisitive nature has taken Will far from the shores of Western Australia, he's a spiritual being that's often taken swaths of life to further self-knowledge, and deepen his lust for life, his interest in history, the natural world and keeping himself in optimum physical shape makes for quite a refreshing points of view. Hope you enjoy Will and I's chat Thanks Will
Sil is a lot of things to a lot of people, Shes is a loving partner to Tony, a mum and writer, and a modern philosopher, she likes to tackle the heavy subjects with an alternative point of view - she solidly believes in humanity and the fragility that is the precipice we find ourselves standing on as a species at this moment in time - I think she has a great point of view and worth thinking about, and if not acting on - especially outside the slow-moving walls of Governance and big business and corporate media. I hope you enjoy our yarn
Molly is an unassuming powerhouse and just what the world needs more of, I meet Molly and her bestie Freya on a surf trip to King Island, They had just finished a Lap of Tassie surfing and exploring and were doing a trip to KI with King Island surf Safaries, before heading west on the mainland when our paths crossed. Their good vibes and cavalier approach left me scratching my head a few times - I think I was once more like this ??!!!! What the hell happened.... I was inspired and it left me wondering about where my energy and thoughts are being directed sometimes! It's just a choice isn't it? or does getting older just wear you down? Or maybe sometimes you just need a reminder The more I learned about Molly I just couldn't believe the things she'd achieved in a short space of time ---- Hey Mol umm would you like to be a guest on my Podcast ! I hope you enjoy our chat Cheers JT
In this episode of the Horses Mouth I had the good fortune of speaking with Local legend Xavier Huxtable, Xav is such a great guy, don't let his chill demeanor fool you he obviously gets white line fever - whether he's pulling on a contest jersey or a pair of footy boot's you better be bringing your A-game Xav is the real deal. He's currently on the World Qualifying circuit and looking for big fish and a long career - I cant wait to see him on the main stage WCT
This Horses mouth I had the pleasure of chatting to Silas Hickey, Silas has had an amazing life from being a surfing grommet here on the coast to currently having an Animation concept and development studio in Japan called Custom Nuts, He's grounded humble, and funny as fuck - for someone who recently held the title Senior Director, Asia Pacific Animation Development, Turner International Asia Pacific; we've been communicating for a while through covid lockdown - and I'm honored he made the effort to swing by on his brief visit back to Australia. Hope you enjoy our Chat
Anita is one of those amazing people, has a real glint in her eye - works hard always stoked in and out of the water, always has time for a chat and notices the beauty in the natural world, and often points it out which I love! In this chat we arc through her life and she walks us through a challenge that is everyone's worse nightmare, but with the love and support of her family and her tenacity and love of life and great medical support, she lives to tell the tale. Thanks for coming around and sharing Anita : )
Taylor is a modern man with old school values, he's transformed his life through travel and experience, he's a journeyman who loves the adventure and consistently asks himself and others what's next and are you following your heart, he realizes in the end life's short - Why not ! if your not happy dig a little deeper - I hope you enjoy our ark through Taylor's experience thus far.
Finn Barry is a family man / Watermen / Bat outta hell, all-round good egg having a crack - Adventurer and lover of all things outdoors. Part of the Patagonia family and he wears it well - certainly an ambassador of the live and love life! Go Finn
Welcome to another episode of the Horses Mouth, This episode I had the good fortune of talking to my friend Amber, who said yes to a chat if I kept her name anonymous - which I can totally get on board with, she really lays out her Journey into Adulthood which really isn't for the faint-hearted, it's not a linear life - from Gymnastics and associated pressures to hospitals, beating addiction, sex work and back to school, as I write this think there is a book of a movie in Ambers story. Amber thanks for sharing
