This week's episode is with the most resilient man we have ever come across. When one marriage breaks down due to your wife running off with another women, it's heartbreaking. But when this happens to you twice, it's tragic and would break most people. Coming back from the brink, Adam navigates his way back to happiness. Delving deep into his past to heal, throwing himself into male friendships and finding his inner strength through his creative passions. His ability to tell his story is utterly captivating. He talks of growing up in a harsh, Scottish working-class home which was often violent due to his alcoholic father. Despite all the darkness, Adam gravitates towards light, and if he can't see it, he becomes it. This is a treasured conversation. www.adamrobertsion.com Remember to hit SUBSCRIBE or FOLLOW so you don't miss any new episodes, follow us on the links below for more and please review us, even one line helps!! www.gavinsisters.co.uk Insta: @thedetoxbarn Facebook: @TheDetoxBarn You Tube: The funny Vegans

I'm joined by my brother Adam and we revive a childhood discussion. If the War of the Ring was World War II, who would everyone be? Sidetracks include a discussion of Tolkien's theology and the overlooked virtues of Boromir. Notes:1:28 - Mage Knights (the miniatures game, not the board game) was an interesting game that began the brief "Clix System" craze. I remember it being a lot of fun. A nice combination of the collectible and random element from collectible card games like Magic: The Gathering and the miniature wargame element from stuff like Warhammer. 2:45 - A brief discussion of the classic LoTR cartoons. 3:46 - A great reference from Adam. Timothy Leary was a psychologist and psychedelics advocate. 4:28 - S's and G's was not a term I was familiar with until now. 5:29 - Apologies to Fatty Bolger. 12:59 - I'm likely mispronouncing Eru Ilúvatar. I do think I have the basics of the cosmology down though. 14:23 - C.S. Lewis' The Problem with Pain captures Lewis' and, I suspect Tolkien's, views on this subject. 28:30 - Looked it up. It was Aulë. Intro and outro music: "Swim below as Leviathans" by Fireproof_Babies (featuring Ben Shewmaker) is licensed under CC BY.

Adam Robertson discusses how you can get your point across when working virtually, both as a host and participant. Clarification and verification of your message is critical. Adam raises the ‘basics of communicating virtually' in the Podcast highlighting key topics in the podcast – summary below: • Structure your input: How are we communicating? Structure your inputs into a beginning, a middle and an end (or introduction, main body, and summary/conclusion.) • Signposting: Put your ideas out there to create anticipation before launching into your idea. • Use the Rule of Three: A well-known technique – three items are linked together to help the audience understand the speaker's key points: ‘in my view there are three benefits to this approach, first…second…third'. • Build Empathy: Influencing how we get people on board. Receptivity creates inclusion – make a link to what you have heard and then add to that conversation. • Be Positive: Don't devalue your ideas – use positive language. • Use eye contact: Look into your camera when communicating. • Hosting an online meeting: If first time contact with people you haven't connected with before give a 1 or 2 minute guidance on the techniques of the platform you are using i.e. break out rooms, muting yourself, what is expected of you in the meeting. It's the logical logistics as to how the meeting is going to work. • Participants in an online meeting: Don't devalue your experience – “turn up the dial” to push your ideas. Again, look into the camera to interact directly. Keep your pace and don't speed up your message. It's important to “land your point” in emphasizing your key points. Welcome to the question time episode.A few months ago I hosted a panel talk at a bar called Five Miles in Tottenham, North London called Where It's At. It's intent? To figure out where the UK craft beer industry is at the moment, perhaps taking stock of it in the process and figuring out how it might look in the future.I'm joined on this panel by three influential people within the world of beer: Ed Mason, founder of the Five Points Brewing Company here in London; Miranda Hudson, founder of Duration Brewing in Norfolk, and Adam Robertson, founder of Verdant Brewing Company in Falmouth Cornwall.Very few topics are left alone in this lengthy debate: quality, independence, crowdfunding, the price of beer—nothing is taboo. It resulted in a very interesting discussion, and at times quite amusing—especially when our host, Mark Hislop of Exale Brewing (formerly Hale Brewery) delivered us some patented Mali-Bomb shots midway through the discussion. Thanks to Dan and Mark of Exale for hosting this discussion. Now that they're in their new home in Walthamstow, North London, we hope to host another of these entertaining debates soon. Behind the Shaper is a new Lipped series presented by Surf Visuals and Urbnsurf. This episode features Cory Russell who looked on at surfing from afar until aged 15 he finally connected with the ocean. Since first picking up a planer at age 19 he's gone on to shape crafts for many of Victoria's finest surfers including Cahill Bell Warren, Adam Robertson and Nikki Van Dijk.
