Main Topic: Streaming for fun vs Streaming for a living. (video that hits this topic well - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ya61TizsH8&t=814s) Burnout, sustainability. Pressure to be live for X amount of time. Physical and Mental toll. Do you really think you WANT to be a full time job business savvy hardcore always on streamer? OR Do you want to just stream? How long can a human do this? 10 years? 20 years? 30 years? Is that even possible? Top streamers who work the hardest are burning out within the first 10 years. They are millionaires. Can you grow on twitch from 0 to partner now? #1 Broken View count. - Inconsistent, different raid numbers, big problem for all streams that are working their way up to 100 viewers. #2 Ads have slowly trained viewers to not browse the platform over the last 2 years. Ad block stopped working, viewers don't like browsing the platform now, and just go to streams they already like. Couple this with the player constantly breaking causing viewers to need to refresh the stream and then getting ads all over again... it's rough. Visit https://infinitequality.live/ for more!
https://infinitequality.live/support/ - Support on Patreon and More! Streamer Expectations - IQ Podcast #28 One related to something that came up in the IQ discord today is family members. Streamer EXPECATIONS. A. It's good to have goals and hope/. B. It's not good to EXPECT this will happen, especially since we don't know WHY or HOW things happen when we first start streaming! We can break this into 2 main conversations.. BAD EXPECATIONS 1. Wanting/Expecting/Inviting Family and Friends to help you become a "streamer". Vs Letting them show up on their own or finding out much later... a. If you need family and friends to grow your stream and expect them to help you, your focus is wrong overall. b. It's much better to focus on making a good stream and letting family and friends support you naturally. c. It's okay to be open about what you do and hope people show up, but it can be painful for some when it doesn't happen, so understanding yourself is key. 2. Expecting viewers to always come back. a. We can grow really close over time with viewers and it can be difficult when they suddenly stop showing up. It's inevitable that this WILL happen. So it's better to just be thankful that anyone supported you at all over time. b. Expecting Viewers to interact with your stream the way you want... Not chatting enough, not using channel points, NOT TIPPING ENOUGH, TOO MANY GIFT SUBS, TOO MUCH BACKSEASTING, NOT ENOUGH etc..... 3. Wanting/Expecting MODS to always be there because they have a sword. a. Do you expect Mods to always be there or do you have an expectation of how often they actually MODERATE your chat? b. Not all MODS are "MODS" - Sunny is a good example of this.. I have a sword in most chats because I need to test things and help setup things, not because I am there to ban people like a hawk. c. Secret Mods is a great tool you can implement if you want lots of help from many people without having "TOO MANY SWORDS" in chat. Using a bot like streamer.bot or deepbot you can do this. GOOD EXPECATIONS 1 Expectations in LINE with your strategy. - or Controlling your expectations. a. It's almost unavoidable for most of us, so getting your expectations managed is key. - Expect to grow ONLY when you have a strategy in place TO GROW. Not "JUST BECAUSE" and NOT because I AM GOOD STREAMER! Expectations that you are just so good and so valuable... are toxic and lead to complete self destruction of your stream and growth over time. b. If you have a good idea of what really works to grow your stream, and you do all those things correctly, then you can expect results. For instance... Good Title, Good Thumbnail, Good Game Selection, Good Placements in Game Category, Good Audio/Video, Good attitude, Good Time, Top 3, - Ok Expect follows ... and if you don't get ANY.. this is a measure that something is wrong and you need to make a change in one of these areas... it tells you your strategy is flawed and allows you to do something about it. Summary... Good Expectations Good. Bad Expectations bad. Visit https://infinitequality.live/ for more!

https://infinitequality.live/support/ - Support on Patreon and More! Authority vs Confidence. What is Authority? What is Confidence? Both are important but easily confounded and misused. What is the main difference between being an authority in the streaming space and just being confident. Many streamers confuse confidence with authority. Ego isn't responsibility. Taking leadership positions means taking responsibility. What it doesn't mean is you are the final authority. It means you are willing and actively taking this position and humility goes a long way. .... This framework/mindset/worldview positions your relationship to difficult areas of streaming. Who is in charge of your content? Who is responsible for your growth? Who is responsible for your stream? viewers/community/chat isn't the streamer nor the stream. .... Rules and Boundaries are important: Twitch's rules go REALLY far already. You set the tone for what else is and is not allowed in your stream. it's your space, your virtual room, your party... If you don't allow shoes in the house, then you give leeway to one person, it can make everyone else feel uncomfortable and you lose face/authority with your own community. Be consistent. .... Authority is best used through meekness. What is meekness? Jordan Peterson translates it to means a willingly sheathed sword... or more accurately a solider who has his sword sheathed. It's the person who is Strong/dangerous and has it completely under control. Like a sword in it's sheath. Be dangerous and powerful like sword, but keep it under control. Practice being meek. Approach toxic behavior with grace and kindness, be strong enough to take them down without allowing chat to also become toxic. Visit https://infinitequality.live/ for more!
https://infinitequality.live/support/ - Support on Patreon and More! Obvious do's and don'ts: With some exceptions, in general... Do NOT call out lurkers and new viewers in chat. Do NOT laugh at small hosts/raids. - This is anti-social to it's core. Do NOT talk over cut scenes in Blind Playthroughs. Do NOT mute a story driven game and put on your own music or listen to a podcast. Do NOT go to stream depressed and complain about life. DO talk to chat, even when it's not moving. DO be thankful for all support for your stream big and small. DO tell stories and share what's happening, even sad things from a good place. DO focus on BLIND and Reactionary first playthroughs with good balance between your audio and the game sound. DO give it your all. On stream attitude... How important is it to keep your cool? Do you disciple viewers or rage at community members? Fake twitch etiquette - "like and subscribe" vs getting to know people (actually being social). - by product of streaming to no one - staying plastic vs becoming real. Practicing being fake / performance can lead to never connecting with viewers that do come in. ... Being thankful - FOR REAL - Gratitude goes a long way! It's easy to feel like you aren't getting enough viewers and feel like you need more support which can lead to a lack of real appreciation for those people actually supporting you. Good ways to show appreciation! .. Be verbally thankful. Thank followers when they follow... Canned reactions and responses can come off as scripted and robotic which can seem inauthentic. Let people know you appreciate them often. When someone does chat, get to know them, always! ... It's hard to socialize around people pushing boundaries. You box yourself in and when you want to get serious who will be willing to listen to the meme lord? The loud obnoxious person at the party might get a few laughs but in general they are making people uncomfortable. Most streamers doing well have similar traits: 1. Good Communication Skills - they communicate well, and can discuss all topics openly and with tact. 2. Understanding boundaries - often they know what will cause others to be uncomfortable or offensive so they avoid topics they don't deeply understand, and/or carefully express their opinions. 3. High in trait openness - They are willing to try new things and explore the unknown. This leads to better connections with viewers and more careful attitudes on stream. (haters gonna hate) 4. People focused interest - The female advantage isn't attraction, though that can play a role, the real advantage women have as streamers is they generally tend towards caring about PEOPLE more than they care about THINGS. Streaming is a SOCIAL experience first and caring about people MORE than you care about things is a huge advantage. Visit https://infinitequality.live/ for more!

Not wanting it to be a job while simultaneously wanting success. - Once it feels like a job you don't want to do it. (Do you not want to work for success). - All jobs have aspects that are "boring" or things that people "dislike". Can you be a cake and eat it too streamer? - Can you casually be successful or is this a misdirection from popular culture icons where success seems like luck and not work? 2. Trade offs for growth. - Willing to eat the hot beans, but not willing to stand out in more meaningful ways? - "I want my friends on stream with me" (your friends might be hurting your stream) 3. How much thought and strategy do you employ? - Are you streaming fun games, or smart games and having fun with them? - What is more important? Having a good stream or having a fun game? - Are you growing because you are having fun with a game or because people see you having fun on your stream? - Are you leaning into your other strengths to help you channel? ... Stream presentation, Personality, Aesthetics, community, identity ... etc.. 4. Can streamers with no extra strengths, or streamers with unknown strengths just "stream" and make it work? - Bland or basic streamers with a lack of clear identity - Boring people make boring streamers. - Become more interesting, leaner interpersonal skills, take responsibility, or expect failure.

https://infinitequality.live/support/ - Support on Patreon and More! Discussion breakdown: Why is equipment important? - You want to give your viewers the best possible experience and new viewers less reasons to leave. Upgrades should make your stream quality better and should make going live easier on you. Part one: The approach. - 2 extremes. Get nothing and just stream vs. Get EVERYTHING and just stream. - both are wrong. - Never done upgrading in any tech field. - Price doesn't always mean quality. - Problem solving and getting the most out of what you own is always a good skill no matter how good / bad the tech is. - if it works, it works. - Upgrades should make streaming easier and more feature filled. - There's always a price to be paid and a learning curve. Part two: The most important upgrades - Audio. Audio. Audio. Audio. - Samsung Q2U - Capture Cards - $5-20 - Camera Part three: Upgrades can be about making streaming easier. - Emulation vs Mister - The Right Camera means less setup more streaming. - Software vs Hardware - bugs and troubleshooting. - Controllers that work. Summary - Yes Equipment is important. There is a barrier of entry to streaming and you do need to invest in a good stream setup. The best stream setup is one that works. If you are going to invest larger amounts get the most bang for buck always. You don't need the most expensive equipment, you need equipment that works. Start with what you have and get creative!
