One might refer to Joe Atang as the "Hi!" Guy. Using a relentlessly positive approach to share his compassionate spirit, Joe has become what some might call a major "influencer" on TikTok. He spreads positivity, shares what he's learning as he goes and has become a valued presence in the lives of a great many people. Joe is the guy who writes the word "Hi" on his hand, a simple gesture that has turned into a benchmark of his personal brand (yes, I did ask him if he's thought about simply tattooing the phrase to his palm permanently). In this conversation, Joe shares how the whole "Hi!" thing started and why he feels the response to it has been so strong. Among the other things we talked about were what got him started on TikTok in the first place and why Gary Vaynerchuk's example has meant so much to him. Joe shared the personal story behind the Bill Withers song, "Lovely Day" and how it became such a staple of what he shares online. He also talked about how he developed the idea of calling people while broadcasting live and what that was like when he first started to do it. Some other things covered in this conversation include: His willingness to move through discomfort in order to learn and achieve something new (and why that's so important). Going from being teased and picked on as a kid to working so hard to encourage and inspire others. What prompted him to start taking cold showers. How he continues to come up with new content ideas to share on video. How often he feels he has to step back, rest and reset. If you're the kind of person would who like more uplifting voices in your life more often, follow Joe Atang. You'll be glad you did.

If you’ve ever doubted yourself and want to believe again, join us for this episode about overcoming impossible odds. At just 22 years old, Steve Bottrill was in a horrific car accident that left him on life support. He was in a coma for 10 days. Steve now says that, while in the coma, he could hear the conversations the doctors were having with his parents. He heard them say he would never walk again or talk again. He heard them say that he would be connected to machines his entire life. He heard them say he would never be 100% again, that he would never go back to school or play sports. Steve says he could hear all of those conversations around him while he was in the coma. For some reason he was determined to prove them wrong. In this episode, you’ll find out what happened, and how you can use the same spirit to overcome whatever challenge you’re looking to overcome.

Cornell Thomas is a speaker, author, coach and creator of the “Positivity Summit,” designed to help unite human beings, regardless of race, religion, political preference, or socioeconomic status. Cornell’s goal has always been to focus on the good in mankind, and not the bad. When the coronavirus first struck one of the first questions Cornell was asked was what he will do about the Summit. His answer: pivot. Instead of holding it in one city, in one country, and in front of a limited audience, he could now make it a global event that everyone from all over the world could see simultaneously. And with that, his Global Online Positive Summit has been born, and is set to take place on May 28 - 30, 2020. We discussed all of this in this episode. Cornell has gathered speakers from all over the world sharing their unique stories, and powerful messages, all in an effort to uplift others and to raise money for a firefighter’s family in his hometown of Passaic, New Jersey. He passed from Covid-19, and is survived by his wife and two children. Come join us for three days of inspiration, wisdom, and hope. Ever thought about the psychology of colour, what the different colours mean, how we can use them to learn more about ourselves and apply them effectively both at home and at work? If so, you'll love this conversation about living life colourfully with Angela Dacey. As Angela has said: "It’s time for YOU to take care of YOU and heal YOUR negative thoughts and feelings. Stop feeling hopeless, heavy-hearted, mentally unclear, emotionally drained and spiritually unconnected." We talked about a lot of that (with me as the guinea pig) and much more. Among other things, we discussed: ~ How thoughts and feelings affect our health ~ How “it’s a lot of work, to work on yourself.” ~ The positives and negatives associated with each of the main colours (e.g., Red positive = Passion | Red negative = fear) ~ Discussion on several real-life scenarios from both Kevin’s life and Angela’s life, how colour has played into it, what they’ve learned about themselves and role colour can play in moving forward. ~ They also created a recipe for the chronically under-achieving Toronto Maple Leafs! Now us much as ever, it sure seems like a fine time for global shift in consciousness. But who's going to lead it? Luckily, I know a guy. Brendon Culliton is the founder and leader of Paradigm Shift Central, a portal for consciousness shifting media and a global team of shifters. In this episode, Brendon joined me to speak at length about both his journey of creating and leading his own paradigm-shifting movement and about his journey into consciousness in general At ParadigmShiftCentral.com, you’ll find featured inspirational content leaders actively helping accelerate the shift in global consciousness through creativity and compassion. Brendon leads by example through a variety of different videos, including meditations, group discussions and collaboration and video blog-type observations, among other things. In addition to his proficiency and video production and online community building, Brendon is just as likely to be found on the streets of London, Ontario offering "free hugs" and/or talking to passersby to encourage their thoughts on a particular subject, many of which will be shared to the collective via video. The result of his effort is seeing others around the world feeling inspired and encouraged by his actions. Among many other things, we discussed: ~ The process of creating his film, "Journey to Lucidity." ~ What led to him becoming so passionate about doing the kind of work he does. ~ When he first became aware that there was even a "paradigm" that needed "shifting," and how he knew he was meant to be involved. ~ His concept of "Radical non-worriness." ~ The human tendency to gravitate toward what we think needs to happen vs what needs to happen. This is really a love story. Love of what we do, how we do it ... and of each other. Zen’za Pizzeria in London, Ontario, Canada is one of those all-too-rare, very special kinds of places that warm your spirit the moment you pass through the doors. It’s more than the food, though that’s part of it. It’s more than the design of the place, though that’s part of it too. It’s a lot about the people who created it, the circumstances that led to its creation and, in face, the coming together of those two people in the first place. We talked about all of that and more with Wayne DeGroot and Jocelyn Morwood-DeGroot in Episode 101 of “Journeys with the No Schedule Man.” Among other things, we discussed: How the two of them connected and what told them each that the connection was to be trusted and explored. Why they decided to go into business together (and why it was the pizza business). How they’ve helped each other grow, individually and as a team. Some of the challenges they’ve met in the journey of bringing Zen’za Pizzeria to life. What the reality of life is like when you run your own restaurant. How and why Zen’za is such a terrific example of authentic, magnetic marketing. Big visions vs. moment-to-moment details and how they can both compliment and (at times) distract from each other. Adam Malamis had a burning question inside of him he needed to answer. He wanted to know if he could be the kind of person one might find "running into the action when other people were running away" ... or not? I believe he has his answer. In the summer of 2019, Adam found himself - by choice - behind the lens of a camera, in full riot gear, in the middle of the conflict and protests in Hong Kong. In this conversation, Adam outlines why it was so important for him to go, what he's taken from the experience and how is travels have shaped his perspective. of life at home. Suppose you've got a great idea. Or you're simply looking to do things better. And you're one of the few who are actually set to *act* upon the notion and see if you can get yourself and your team somewhere new. Awesome. But how do you give yourself the best chance to succeed? The magical thing about Joseph is that what he shares about how to get from concept to completion is not the sort of thing we may be used to hearing or expecting to be told. Not only is his insight and wisdom effective, it's refreshing. Among other things we discussed: ~ Challenging the old ideas of always be pushing, grinding and sacrificing your well-being . How would it feel? Here's our chance to find out, chatting with Gaurav Shinde, who is already in preparation to take leave from his home and work here in London, Ontario, Canada, to sail solo around the world in a race in 2022. Do you have children? Do those children have access to the internet? If so, please watch or listen to this conversation with Charlene Doak-Gebauer. As you'll see and hear, it left Kevin at a loss for words. Several times. An international speaker, Charlene is the creator of the charitable organization, "Internet Sense First," the author of two books ("Digital Sexual Victims: True Cases" and "The Internet: Are Children in Charge?") and the drivng force behind The International Summit To End Child Exploitation (November 9, 2019 at the Hellenic Centre in London, Ontario, Canada). I found some of what Charlene shared very difficult to hear. In consideration of that, I cannot image actually LIVING through what is happening to many children, right under our noses. We better hear about it and discuss it so that we can keep more people from living through it. Among other things, we discussed: - "Grooming," and how online sexual predators often communicate and what they do to draw out information from potential victims. - Signs to look for from online gaming sexual predators. - Why something that could well be in your child's phone - that they might think is funny - could actually be a criminal offence. - An overview of the three steps to Charlene's model for digital supervision: a) Awareness b) Method (how and what to check) c) Hope This is an important story that may well save lives and save families. Brett Lucier, the owner of Provincial Glass and Mirror, is a terrific example of the power of resourcefulness, hard work, patience and perseverance. Brett began his career with Provincial Glass in an entry-level position. And he'll be the first to tell you: he broke a lot of glass at the start. But he just kept working his way up until, one day, he became the owner of the company and one of London, Ontario's true community leaders. How did he do it and what can we learn from it? That's the story we shared in this episode. Among the things we discussed ... - Getting into your chosen field, finding out it's not what you thought, dealing with that disappointment and deciding what to do next. - Transferable skills - your role may change and your setting may change but you will always take your interests and values along with you and it's amazing how they can be applied (and even reignited) in new ways and new environments. - Why surrounding yourself with - and truly making the effort to get to know - good people is so important for a successful company culture. - How to deal with new challenges as you continue to develop and grow. - The power of resourcefulness and work ethic mixed with patience and perseverance. It was an 18-year journey from the time he first started at the company to becoming sole owner. And as you'll hear him say, he feels like the story is just beginning ... Are we shaping - and sharing - our own stories in our own way? It might seem like an obvious question. I believe most of us would say, "Well of course. Of course that's what I'm doing." But is it really? Or are we doing, saying, and sharing what we think we should, recreating some version of what we see from others? Each of us has our own unique story, history, interests, values, areas of specialty and unique take on life and work. Each of us has the same opportunity to share those things and connect with the people that we are uniquely equipped to serve, in our own way. And from here on out, whenever anybody says to me, "Oh, I could never do that," I will point to the story of this week's guest: Eric Gagne.
When it comes to money, are you a magician, a tyrant or a fool? In this episode, we’re talking about money, and more specifically, our individual relationship, mindset and habit patterns related to money and the common challenges that sometimes go with that. Cheryl Campbell is a Certified Money Coach & Financial Planner. Her emphasis is on helping others like herself get out of the rut of living other people’s lives and truly start living the life that they were meant to live.
Can you step out of your own story long enough to see yourself from an outside perspective? Are you able to honestly and objectively consider yourself and your activities from someone else’s viewpoint, and then ask and answer the question: Why would they care? This week, we’re joined by Lisa Brandt, who describes herself on her website as "An experienced author, reliable writer-for-hire, long-time broadcaster and versatile voice-artist." At the time of this recording, she has just released her latest book, “Make the Media Want You.” It's her fifth turn as an author, with some of her other more recent books including “My Sepsis Story” and “The Naked Truth.” Lisa is presently the morning show co-anchor at News Talks 1290 CJBK radio in London, Ontario, the most recent stop in a distinguished broadcasting and journalism career (she tells much more of the story of her background when she joined me a couple of years ago, in Episode 6: "Balancing Multiple Creative Passions”). I've read “Make the Media Want You” and I loved it. Its principles truly speak to the challenges that come up in the work I do with small businesses, non-profit organizations and community groups, particularly as it relates to marketing and communication. While this episode is very much a conversation, Lisa's part of it is loaded with valuable insight on what to do, and what not to do,if you are looking to reach out to members of the media in hopes of securing more exposure for whatever it is that you're working on. Just a sample of some of the areas where Brandt suggests people often misstep include: Making it easy for the person you're asking to help you. The basic courtesy of getting names correct. Being aware of your own "industry jargon." Thinking things through from the listener, viewer or reader's perspective. Having an interesting story to share as opposed to just more "dates and locations" to toss on the pile. If you're looking to connect with members of the media or just do a better job of effectively communicating in general, there are all kinds of key tidbits and takeaways in this discussion that will help you!
How in touch are you with who you really are and what you really want to be doing? Are you going through life doing all the things you feel you should be doing? Or are you absolutely certain you’re the path for which you are uniquely suited, in touch with the kind of life and work that will continue to light up your soul for as long as you’re alive? In this episode, we're joined by Alina Calinescu, a kind and gentle soul who asked herself those very questions not all that long ago. As has been the case with so many others who have shared their stories on this podcast, Alina found that her true path was divergent from where she started out. Originally from Romania, Alina followed in her father's footsteps and became an engineer. But some time after moving to Canada and being introduced to fitness, something new clicked in her spirit. A little over a decade ago, she listened to what she calls a "gut feel" and changed her career path to one of fitness, yoga and meditation. Now a yoga teacher, therapist, educator, what she loves most is to share iRest (Integrative Restoration) Yoga Nidra. iRest is known to help alleviate stress, help us sleep better and heal unresolved issues. It can also allow us recognize an underlying peace of mind that is always present within us - no matter what circumstances we are facing in life. In sharing so much about her personal and professional journey, Alina said several things that truly resonated with me. Some examples include: The challenge of pacing herself. What she calls “indigestion of thought.” Touching base with what is all right within you. Developing and nurturing patience and trust. She talked about how she to the point where she would remind herself to "stop apologizing for her choices." That really hit home for me. I also love how she described what she does as “part science and part art.”
What are you competing for? Jake Thompson is Founder and Chief Encouragement Officer at Compete Every Day® a global lifestyle brand committed to reminding you that your life is worth fighting for. They strive to reignite the competitive fire already within you that's necessary to achieve life’s victories. From a passion project to a worldwide motivational brand, Jake started Compete Every Day to connect competitors, provide quality apparel, and motivate fans to live a powerful life. Like most entrepreneurial adventures, this one has had its share of ups and downs. Among the many valuable insights Jake shares are his reflections on how hard it has been, and how much he’s had to grow both personally and professionally in order to keep Compete Every Day on a positive path. Another very important distinguishing factor that I hope people will notice is how much Jake’s brand is tied into story. In fact, the whole thing is a story, tying into his podcast, speaking and the Compete Every Day community. Storytelling is a powerful, magnetic and very natural human mechanism for creating emotional buy-in and bringing people together. In my opinion, anyone looking to more effectively market their business would be well-served by carefully considering what Jake has to share on this subject. A few of the key things that stood out from my time with Jake included: “Building a giant sand castle” with his life - It always interests me to discover what motivates people to step out and build something all their own, as Jake has done with Compete Every Day. Even more interesting to me was Jake’s reflection on how he felt he was “building a giant sand castle” with his life and decided he want to use his time to do something that made more of an impact. Ignorant enough to be dangerous & willingness to step into conflict - It’s amazing what can be accomplished when you don’t let what you don’t know get in your way. Power of story and storytelling - Back to the “sand castle” idea, Jake came to realize his life was missing a great story element and he became determined to do something about it.
When you daydream about the things you really wish you could be doing or would like to be doing, how much does potential feedback from the "naysayers" influence what you do ... or choose not to do? Tim Alison is a semi-retired entrepreneur who, at the time of this recording is just about to release a book called "Screw the Naysayers." He has already started producing and sharing a podcast of the same name. Tim's primary goal? To empower young people to do the work they are uniquely suited to do and live a life that aligns their work with the things they care about most. His message is simple: Know the life you want and have the courage to live it. Today, Tim shares the lessons he gathered along his journey while outlining how and why his "Screw the Naysayers" movement was born.
How willing are you to go into the storm and then wait for what you want? Today’s guest, Brian Spencer, has set a great example of how to mix passion and perseverance with patience by living the kind of story that you don’t hear about every day.Known as the “Canadian Storm Chaser,” Brian loves to chase tornadoes. And I don’t mean metaphorical emotional storms (though, like anyone else, he’s been through his share of those too). I mean that, once he discovered he held a fascination with the power and ferocity nature sometimes unleashes in the form of tornadoes, he was determined to get as close to them as possible. He has, and you’re going to hear about it today. Brian is also a successful business person, operator of a company called Streaming Incorporated while also continuing to serve as creator and curator of a very popular website called PearlJamLive.com. There is a strong thread of curiosity, passion, connection, challenge, perseverance and patience that runs through all aspects of Brian’s story, and the lesson is (I think) that in order to catch our dreams, we sometimes have to be willing to chase a storm or two and also be willing to wait for things to develop - or not - in their own time.
What would have to change in your life for you to consider it a “miracle?” Today, we’re joined by Nichole Wynter, a Miracle Life Coach. Nichole helps ambitious business women materialize miracles in their business and in their lives. Among the many areas where Nichole helps her clients: managing their distractions, overcoming the need to please others (so you stop saying yes, when you mean to say no) and to execute their plans so that they can materialize their own miracles within their business & life. As you’re going to hear, Nichole is the perfect person to coach on this because it’s exactly what she’s done in her own life and work. A few of the key Takeaways 1. Significance - What gives us a feeling of significance and what we’re doing to contribute to the feeling of significance of the people around us (in her case, husband and kids) 2. You’re Going To Have Doubts - No matter how certain of something we feel when we start out, it’s inevitable that we’re going to encounter doubt along the way; from people we love, from people don’t know … and from ourselves. It’s just part of the process. 3. Leadership in life & work - Ultimately, it’s up to us to recognize and decide what it is we want to stand for and how we want to be viewed as a leader, at home and at work. As Nichole said in our conversation, “If you don’t set the culture, you allow the culture to form.” In other words … if you don’t choose, life will choose for you. Most of us don’t realize how much influence we hold over our own experience through our power to choose. Something else Nichole mentioned near the end of this chat is how she feels that self awareness is an absolute game-changer when it comes to making the choices that shape our actions that turn into the experience we’re having at home and at work. I could not possibly agree with her more.
If my guest and I could take one of your fears and flush it away forever … which would it be? That’s a huge part of what Beth Allen helps people do, and she’s joining us today to share her story, which I know you’re going to love.A little bit about Beth: she is the Founder of HIP Chicks (the Home Improvement Project Chicks), which is for real homeowners wanting real DIY direction to save money, time and stress. HIP Chicks is for women and men, ready to be strong homeowners and fearless people, too. One of Beth’s central topics is “Flush the Fear.” As an author and speaker, she actually brings a toilet up on stage to help give people a “Do It Yourself” guide to letting go of that nasty stuff in your life that has you stuck. Whether your hangups are about money, relationships, health, and work, Beth can help you put it into perspective
The University of Michigan men's basketball team made it all the way back to the Final Four championship game again this year. Reclaiming human connection. That’s the mission of today’s guest, Joe Beckman, who visits educational settings around the world. It's Joe’s feeling that our schools are experiencing an unprecedented shift and that student loneliness is at an all-time high while self-worth and feelings of belonging are at all-time lows. Joe feels the culprit is lack of human connection, and I'm pretty sure I agree with him. And I would say, not just connection with each other, but with ourselves. Among the things that really stood out to me from this conversation with Joe were: Energy vs. talent. Joe tells a really interesting story about where he was first introduced to the idea of how important energy is, how people want to be around others with good energy. The trap of trying to talk your way to a solution (instead of just listening). “Go big with this moment.” When Joe described the moment when he said, “5-year-old Joe met 18-year-old Joe,” I immediately reflected back on times when I felt like I had rediscovered and reconnected with an authentic part of myself that I had perhaps forgotten or lost sight of. It is an electric, visceral experience when you reconnect with who you really are. I hope Joe’s story helps you recall times when that’s happened for you, as it did for me. © 2018 Kevin Bulmer Enterprises
What do you think would happen, in work and at home, if you were to allow yourself to be exactly who you are, embrace who you are not, connect with the people for whom you are a fit, and joyfully wish all others well as you let them go along on their own unique path, with or without you? Today I’m going to introduce to somebody who is doing that better than just about anyone else I’ve ever seen. Matthew Kimberley is the creator of Professional Persuasion and author of the self-help classic, 'How To Get A Grip.' He trains sales teams and helps very small personality-led businesses get more customers (www.matthewkimberley.com). But more than any of that, when I first came across Matthew and his work, his voice, I felt like I had finally found a breath of pure oxygen in world full of carbon dioxide. Or more specifically, someone in the sales, marketing, coaching and speaking space who is actually REAL, an authentic and 100% genuine voice shared by someone who is perfectly happy to be exactly who he is. It was an absolute pleasure, having the opportunity to speak with Matthew. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did.
Do you sometimes feel “trapped by love?” That’s a phrase that came up in the conversation you’re about to hear, with Pauline Duncan-Thrasher. I was instantly intrigued by that notion, as I know of so many people who do, in fact, feel “trapped” in a bad relationship with their partners, parents, grown kids, friends, family members, co-workers … or even themselves. Pauline is a trainer, coach, keynote speaker and author who helps people to live, learn and lead with love. Her mission is to help other believe in their own amazing selves. This chat with Pauline is a touching, thought-provoking, fully transparent recounting of a story that will probably be familiar to a great many people, maybe even to you. I hope it helps. © 2018 Kevin Bulmer Enterprises
