Quick-Show Notes:A Little about Ian Pryor:Ian founded Pryor Tax Law (P.T.L)  in 2014 as an independent tax and estate planning boutique. His primary areas of expertise are corporate tax planning and reorganizations, advising on the purchase and sale of businesses, planning for high net-worth individuals, family business succession planning, trust planning and preparation, and international tax planning. He works closely with other professionals and advisors to create and implement business and estate plans and enjoys working in a team environment to ensure client needs and goals are met. In this episode of The Millionaire's Lawyer, JP and Ian Pryor discuss:Ian Pryor works on the public aspect of things; he likes to work with other professionals to ensure their mutual clients' needs are met.Pryor meets with his clients and their team of professionals to go over everything to make sure that the structure of the business is correct, and that the client is well versed and able to take advantage of the structuring.Last few years the tax crystal ball had become a little more foggy than normal, and now with COVID, the accountants have no idea what to expect. The Government is in such a deficit that they are most likely to add more taxes, higher taxes, but we have no idea what they are planning. Everyone is sitting in limbo to find out the implications.Your host, JP asked Ian Pryor what he thought people should be doing right now to stay proactive, he suggests:Plan in advance. Think of what your business is going to be doing in advance and position yourself to reap all of the benefits you should be able to.If you wait too long, when you go to sell you may be taxed up the ying-yang!COVID has really made a lot of people think about their estate, making sure they have their Wills and POA's set up, and the structuring to sell soon and ensure a comfortable life for the family.Ian and JP both feel as though the estate field will be flourishing over the next few years, this pandemic has shown everyone what really matters, and what to do to protect it.The process of working with Ian very's per client. Every corporation is different, just because you are an e-commerce business does not mean you should be structured the same as every other e-commerce business.Canadian Business in the United States (US)Once Canadian corporations want to expand they generally look to the US because they are a bigger market.Currently, the US election has had a lot of Canadians hold off, they are unsure of what changes Biden might make in regards to taxation laws. What Ian generally sees is that the Canadian business will sell to the US.We can set up a sister corporation, or a joint partnership.Corporations from the US like LLCs, but for us Canadians, LLCs are taxed differently and is not recommended. An individual who believes they know everything should raise some red flags - no one knows everything, find someone who knows what you don't to help. Some consequences that  not planning ahead could have:Canadians that sell to LLCs - due to structuring and taxationFor Canadians that have a UK beneficiary in their estate planning, the UK gets taxed on their inheritance.Ian Pryor highly recommends making sure that you have planned in advance and keep revisiting the plan to revise along the way.Planning allows for the optimal outcome of the situation.Ian Pryor is also a member of STEPEnjoy what you have, spend time with your kids while they are kids! Don't let work absorb you and take you away from living your life and enjoying what you have!Know what you don't know and find someone who does know that. In this episode Ian Szabo joins me to tell his story of underdog to hero and what life was like riding the short bus. The Start Of The Short Bus At the end of his Kindergarten year Ian’s school decided he was not ready for grade 1 and suggested he repeat Kindergarten. This is where this story begins. Repeating Kindergarten meant going to a different school. New kid. New school. Before he only had to walk from his home. This new school was too far away so he had to take a school bus. His biggest surprise was getting on his new bus. When he got on the bus he noticed that everyone seemed very different from the “normal” kids. Some kids were in wheelchairs, some were missing limbs and others rode with machines to help them breath. He asked himself “why am I on this bus? What did I do to be forced on here?” At his new school Ian was attending a special education program. He was riding the short bus to school everyday.Riding The Short Bus This was the beginning of a tough journey. The kids that rode the short bus were bullied, spit on, called names. They attended separate classes from the rest of the student body. Back then Ian wanted to be everybody else but that kid. It has taken him 10 years to even have the courage to talk about it. But today he sees things very differently. He has a new appreciation and love for his time in school. What Ian gained from his experience at school was something that has helped him to become who is today– a compassionate leader, business owner, father and husband that does not give up in the face of adversity. The Most Important Lessons The most important lessons that Ian learned from his time in special education was compassion. He learned compassion from the fellow student that needed to have someone help change him everyday. He became a class clown to make his friend laugh. This friend came to school neglected and not appreciated at home. Ian says that he hung out with the coolest people ever. It was the best education that he ever received. He also learned to be a chameleon so that he could fit in with the mainstream kids. Ian also admits that there were key teachers that helped him along the way and gave him hope. Ian attended a trade school for high school and he says this was one of the best avenues he took. This high school was the start of his first career and gave him the many skill sets that he uses to this day. In High School he learned to cook and later became a Red Seal chef, even representing Canada 3 times in the culinary Olympics.  He says that it was the determination of proving some teachers wrong that spurred him on to completing his courses and starting his career. Ian’s businesses and ventures are numerous: Represented Canada 3 times in the Culinary Olympics Started his own renovation business where he quickly mastered flipping houses Had his own TV show on HGTV and W network 2 Best selling books Creating and running a hands-on education program called FlipSchool where he teaches people his unique tips and skills for renovating and flipping houses. Real Estate Agent with a unique focus on investors Inspirational Speaker with his own custom made short busNon Conventional Life Ian has never done anything conventional. For example, in his real estate business he creates full packages for clients that include finding the house to fix up, the construction company, and mortgage broker. But now his clients don’t just include wealthy investors but people that can’t afford to do it on their own. He provides them the funds, teaches them the skills to renovate and then turnaround and sell their home! He’s using his skills that he learned on the “bus” to give back to people that need help.Everyone Has A Short Bus The most rewarding thing is the bus. It is the symbol he is most proud of. To this day he gets in and still gets nervous. “Everyone has a short bus. Getting in the bus shows I’m not scared anymore. I’m not embarrassed anymore. Back in the day no one wanted to ride on the short bus. The purpose (of the new short bus) was to have a short bus that is fun. That people want to be on.” Ian’s new bus is decked out. It is fitted with rims, TV’s, and a playstation. He tours in the bus and interviews misfits and underdogs with the purpose of finding out what made them successful.School Then And Now Ian used to have a really negative approach to the schooling system because it failed him and others. His daughters though do attend their local public school and he is extremely happy with it. He feels very good about the school and the learning that his daughters are doing there. But what he is the most proud of is the compassion that his girls have and show. Looking back, the one thing that Ian would change would be being more open to the teachers that did get and support him. “Teachers are a gift. There are many remarkable teachers out there.” Ian’s advice to parents– Ask questions and support your kids. If you think they are different-don’t squash it. Engage them. Investigate, and water it. Look for his bus on the road.Links Facebook Page- Short Bus Talks  FlipSchool Books – From Renos to Riches Fix and Flip

Welcome back to another episode of DrumGAB podcast. I think Hunter S. Thompson would enjoy Episode nine. I normally get to know my guests beforehand through private messages in order to find out what makes them tick. I did that with Ian and got to know him a little bit. After a while, he mentioned to me that he had some crazy stories to tell me if I wanted to go that route in the conversation. On this podcast, there aren't really limits to content I guess. What Ian told me was apparently watered down a bit, but that's kind of like watering down gasoline I think.  The first part of the interview is about Ian's time growing up in a highly musical family. His brother Eli can play pretty much anything and do it well and his mom and dad play several different instruments as well.  We talk about our mutual interest in electronic music and we reflect on the lore of Aphex Twin.  The main part of this interview is the story of when Ian was in college. He and his girlfriend were heavily caught up with heavy drug use. Ian explains some of the things that happen to them during this time and how addictions lead to a lot of unfortunate situations. The things that he shares in this interview is pretty intense. I will leave out the details on the notes. But Ian is clear of all of that now and the future is bright indeed. He and his band mate, Tony Grey, are releasing their new album. The music featured in this podcast is Ian and Tony's band Galactic Duo and the song is titled "Awaken". He has many great opportunities ahead of him I am certain as well, with his attitude and musical skill he will go very far. I wish him all the best. In closing, Ian has many great opportunities ahead of him I am certain as well, with his attitude and musical skill he will go very far and I wish him all the best. It is remarkable that Ian is alive and well today, as you will soon discover. It is another testimonial regarding how drums bring good quality to life and that some of us truly live for the drums.

In this episode I speak with Ian Brodie about his failures as a salesperson. He started off as a business consultant and was great at helping his clients with their strategies and making changes. But to progress in his company he had to sell. And that’s where the problems started. He didn’t like being a salesperson and everything with his clients changed. He was almost fired. Fortunately, he accidentally discovered a way to get in front of prospects that repeatedly worked. And that’s what we talk about. What Ian and I discuss in this show: Ian’s successful background in consulting. Why he couldn’t “be” a salesperson. What happened when his clients stopped taking his calls. Why he feared what people thought about him and how it stopped him from making calls. How people think about salespeople, how he thinks about salespeople, and how that label made him feel less credible. Why Ian didn’t want to be seen as someone out to just take people’s money (because he wasn’t). How his fears almost got him fired. How he used research material from his company to start making sales. How he was able to provide value before asking for a sale, and started getting phone calls returned, and how you can do this too. Why he wasn’t able to be like the other sales people. How he used case studies to open doors to appointments and close more sales. How Ian discovered what areas he was good at, how he learned to focus on those, and how he refined it to work best. How you can structure your client meetings to go from providing value to transitioning into the sale. What Ian did to get clients to relax for his sales calls. How the same principles Ian used in face-to-face sales can be applied in online sales… but you don’t have to talk with people one-on-one (if you don’t want). Why Ian asks, “How do you scale without building a large team?” And how he’s working on that for himself, and you. Why he wished he started his own business earlier. Why he couldn’t start his own business until he knew others who did.   Enjoy the show: FtL 35: How Failing At Sales Taught Ian Brodie How To Sell More Effectively

I first met today's podcast guest at a health conference four years ago. I happened to be sitting across the dinner table from him, and watched as he pulled out the mysterious leather satchel that I'd seen him carrying all weekend long. He opened the satchel to reveal tiny bottles of black oil, dropper bottles full of dark, green algae-like goo, mineral salts, and all kinds of other strange substances which he proceeded to use to "dress-up" his dinner. Later, I learned his name - Ian Clark - and invited him on my podcast to talk about that green algae goo, which turned out to be marine phytoplankton. I also learned that back in 2004, at the age of 46, when he was hit with a series of life threatening health issues, obesity, and a prediction from physicians that he only had about two years left to live, Ian refused to accept life’s traditional circumstances and decided to pursue more natural methods of restoring perfect health. Ian began traveling all over the world to discover strange, new health products while developing relationships with top labs and researchers in the fields of natural healing. Now operating out of a farm in Canada with his five sons and the support of an entire team of innovators at , his company has become a significant manufacturer of unique products like magnesium spray, black seed oil, marine phytoplankton and much more. In today's podcast with Ian, you'll discover: -The genetic illness that nearly killed Ian back in 2004 and led to his journey of interest in natural healing... -How you can personally "equip" your body to deal with mold and fungus (and the shocking link between mold, fungus and cancer)... -How Ian has created his own micro-universe to heal his body... -One specific pose you can hold for 30 minutes a day for two weeks to "reboot" your autonomic nervous system... -The small exercise machine that Ian swears by and keeps in both his home and his office... -A new form of fasting called "dry fasting"... -What Ian uses as a "smart drug" to stay hyper-awake and alert... -The reason Ian sprays his entire abdomen with magnesium prior to bed at night... -Why Ian travels everywhere with a black leather bag, and what he keeps in it... -And much more!
