Angela is back on the podcast today! Charlie and Angela sit down to talk about some of the big growth edges they’ve had this year, especially in this crazy year that none of us expected. They talk about some of the changes for Productive Flourishing, as well as the personal changes they’ve discovered and embraced. Key Takeaways:[3:30] - Much of this year has been defined by how quickly things can change. There are business changes on the horizon for Productive Flourishing, and the time of Covid has actually provided unexpected opportunities, projects, and growth for the business.[5:50] - 2020 has been a year of personal transformation for Angela that she could never have imagined. One of the biggest growth edges has been giving herself permission to stand in the light, especially in terms of being seen and heard as a leader. [7:15] - Another growth edge has also been self-acceptance, and embracing the messy emotions and feelings that are necessary for a full spectrum life. This self-acceptance has happened because of the writing she has been doing with the Anchor project. [9:27] - As Angela’s growth edge took off with the Anchor, Charlie had his own growth edge in taking a step back and allowing her to lead in this capacity. He has been learning a new balance between leaving space for emotions and keeping things moving forward. [14:55] - When one partner is shedding and growing around an area in life, both partners have work to do. Now Angela and Charlie are working on how they move forward without one of them having to feel uncomfortable. [16:30] - Another growth edge has been pulling back some of the many, many hats that Charlie wears as the Founder and main creator of Productive Flourishing. Productive Flourishing has shifted back into start-up mode, and has revealed a lot of what Charlie is doing, and what he can delegate. [21:30] - Moving forward despite fear has been another growth edge this year. Becoming more comfortable with uncertainty and with not knowing has been important for both Charlie and Angela this year. It’s okay to not have all the answers right now.[27:30] - Angela talks about another growth edge around receiving and accepting feedback from others. [32:00] - One of Charlie’s major growth points was around physical health. They talk about their gym project, and switching the mindset of the old way of working out to how they have adapted during COVID. [38:27] - Angela talks about having to embrace the two parts of herself in a way she hasn’t been able to do consistently before - Academic/Achiever Angela and Goddess/Heart Angela. She is doing the work to embrace and allow both of these aspects of who she is.[42:18] - What happens when we can integrate these two parts of ourselves? Loving and trusting these different aspects is what allows us to shine brighter. Over the month of October 2020, Legal Drugs Podcast (LDP), a production of Legal Drugs Agency, LLC (LDA), was on a strategic sabbatical to give back and reorganize. In this episode, Host, Angela Stoyanovitch, recaps the lasted COVID cure announcements with new drugs announced from both Pfizer and Moderna (biotech and pharma companies.) Unusually, their announcements included 90-95% efficacy of the vaccines which were developed at record speeds. While drugs of any kind have had longer development periods in the past, Legal Drugs Podcast has continually highlighted that the increased speeds can be attributed to many variables - the most obvious is the use of technology, machine learning and A.I. for early drug discovery. To the general public who is outside of the drug development industry, this all may seem mysterious and confusing but we explain that this is a manifestation of the use of creative scientific theory and understanding of DNA, etc. No longer will we rely on simple chemical compounding for drugs. The future of legal drugs is curative drugs and we are in a space race within the biotech industry to find them! This is an exciting time in history to be a witness to such speedy developments and with a global threat such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the pressure (and funding) are on high! Together, we will continue to discuss these advancements in bite side portions as we have in the first 31 episodes of the show, Legal Drugs Podcast. As Angela outlines in this episode, 32, we are looking to the future for more gene editing that will result in more gene and cell therapies. This Spring 2021, Legal Drugs Agency will produce a new livestream salon-styled intimate conference on gene therapies via LDA partner, PharmaSalon. If you know someone you'd like to recommend as a speaker, please reach out to our host, angela@legaldrugsagency.com. If you are in the market for a career change within the life sciences industry, specifically, the drug development and contract research organization niche, Angela would love to introduce you to our LDA partner, RPM ReSearch Solutions, for career coaching, resources and matching to open candidate roles. This Fall 2020, we are launching our YouTube channel as a result of our efforts over the last month. Stay tuned for more information and subscribe now @legaldrugspodcast on YouTube and Instagram to stay up to date on our announcements. Thank you to those who have supported LDP as a patron on www.patreon.com/legaldrugspodcast. Your support means the world to us and we wouldn't be here without your generous contributions that help us create more content. Thank you! Other sabbatical work includes two recordings with Angela on Lab Rat Chat, an interview with their podcast hosts where Angela dives deep into her career and life story - listen here for free; Chat with Legal Drugs Podcast on Lab Rat Chat Podcast - and a podcast panel discussion recording as a platform session for the National Annual Meeting for the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) - read more on page 26 of the virtual program; NAALAS Panel Discussion: Podcasting to the Public. Finally, LDA was established with the idea that we highlight the heartbeat of biomedical research and the drug development continuum. What do we do this work? Why do we study new drugs and how do we give back? No matter how you slice it, legal drugs has an impact on all of us. For those of us deep in our drug development work or corporate lives, it is easy to lose touch with that heartbeat or the stories of people's lives we impact one way or another. This is the legal drugs business we discuss here but what about the illegal drug business on the streets affecting people in great need due to addictions and mental illness. We all can have a positive impact (great or small) on each other's mental and emotional health. As Host Angela has a great passion for groups of both animals and women in need, she often volunteers for these various causes. While on sabbatical these last 4-6 weeks, Angela describes a new event she hosted to raise hygiene donations for women on the streets. This fundraising event was called Girls Giving and it resulting in over $300 of tampons and sanitary napkins that will be distributed by Restore Global as organized by iServewithJoy nonprofits in the metro-Charlotte, NC area. Hyundai Motors America entered 2020 in the midst of a multi-year transformation of their brand and model line, and their much-talked about "Smaht Pahk" Super Bowl spot had CMO Angela Zepeda feeling the wind at their back. And then... COVID. The crisis hit home quickly with Hyundai as one of their own at a Montgomery, Alabama factory contracted the disease, leading to the temporary closure of the plant. As Angela tells us, the nature of the crisis pushed Hyundai to challenge themselves on how they could help. The OEM and their dealer operators, with the help of their charitable partners from the Hope on Wheels program, turned their eyes towards doing all they could to improve COVID testing availability. The results were mindblowing: 4.3 million dollars in relief to help set up drive-through testing facilities at 22 hospitals, as well as the donation of 16K test kits to regions hit hardest by the crisis. Angela's conversation with CARS Chief Experience Officer Brooke Skinner Ricketts is a true testament to just how much good OEMs and their local dealer operators can deliver to communities in crisis.

Ever thought about the psychology of colour, what the different colours mean, how we can use them to learn more about ourselves and apply them effectively both at home and at work? If so, you'll love this conversation about living life colourfully with Angela Dacey. As Angela has said: "It’s time for YOU to take care of YOU and heal YOUR negative thoughts and feelings. Stop feeling hopeless, heavy-hearted, mentally unclear, emotionally drained and spiritually unconnected." We talked about a lot of that (with me as the guinea pig) and much more. Among other things, we discussed: ~ How thoughts and feelings affect our health ~ How “it’s a lot of work, to work on yourself.” ~ The positives and negatives associated with each of the main colours (e.g., Red positive = Passion | Red negative = fear) ~ Discussion on several real-life scenarios from both Kevin’s life and Angela’s life, how colour has played into it, what they’ve learned about themselves and role colour can play in moving forward. ~ They also created a recipe for the chronically under-achieving Toronto Maple Leafs! Truly, this was a fun and fascinating discussion! We hope you enjoy it. I'm super stoked to share my conversation with Dr Angela Lauria this week. As one of only two women on Entrepreneur Magazine's list of the top 10 most inspiring entrepreneurs to watch, Angela is a total powerhouse. We get capital-r Real about self forgiveness, sexuality, her divorce, and the dangerous prayer that changed everything. As Angela and I mention, there's a time and a place for full transparency... and for us, that's here and now. (PS: this episode features a surprise guest appearance by my dog, Kota. Welcome to the show, Kota!)

Nicole Walker’s Interview Commentary I really enjoyed this interview with Angela and I hope you did as well. I agree with Angela’s concept of our birth order having an impact on our characteristics. According to Angela, more times than not our circumstances and surroundings have more to do with our leadership style, as we are not often groomed from the positions we innately have to play. I understand this completely because this is how I “fell” into my leadership role growing as the oldest of three children. Survival is our core instinct as humans, consequently we do what we have to do with what is presented to us. When we accept who we are and figure out how to maximize our position, we win! A quote by Toni Morrison reads, “Freeing yourself was one thing; claiming ownership of that freed self was another.” I admire Angela’s experience of growing up internationally, and being immersed in diversity. Not having racism in the forefront of your mind as a person of color is a gift. This experience gives Angela a different perspective of people, which impacts how she views her life experiences. Angela looks at her interactions on a person level as opposed to a race level, which is a very liberating viewpoint. I agree that interactions are individual and speak more to the limitations of each person, which should not be attributed race. Angela’s upbringing allows her to have a neutral viewpoint which is necessary to rise above the stigmatism of racism. When we learn to focus on the behavior while not equating it to our color we avoid classifying ourselves and others by color. A quote by Joni Eareckson Tada reads “Perspective is everything when you are experiencing the challenges of life.” I can relate to Angela’s struggles with accepting feedback, as I experienced the same. When we only desire praise and confirmation from others, it’s hard to be receptive to growth opportunities. Focusing only on receiving accolades blocks the opportunity to learn about areas of improvement. As with Angela, I would beat myself up when things did not go as planned as opposed to learning from the experience and moving on with my new knowledge. It is imperative that we stop viewing failure as negative and embrace the new insight received to grow and expand. When we have pity parties about our failures we are distracting ourselves from moving beyond our failures to reach our goals. The longer we sulk the longer it takes to get where we are supposed to be. A quote by Jack Canfield reads, “I am welcoming, appreciating, and using the feedback I get, as I accept it as a valuable gift.” Nicole Walker’s Takeaway of the Week Angela mentioned the importance of having confidence in ourselves and our decisions. As Angela mentioned, we must speak up and take action if we want to be successful. This is an area I struggle with as I’ve had the tendency to hide, which stops my shine. I will make it my business to become so comfortable with myself and my abilities, so I can speak up more often and take action more swiftly. I need to exercise my confidence muscle, as I know this is required to reach the levels of success that I aim to acquire. A quote by Arthur Ashe reads, “One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation.” Nicole Walker’s Leadership Challenge My leadership challenge for you would be to think about the one thing you can take away from this episode and adopt into your life. I know it’s hard to absorb too much information at one time and it’s even harder to try and implement too many changes at once. When I attend a training or listen to podcasts I aim to walk away with a least one thing that stuck out to me and one way that I can change as a result. I challenge you to do the same! Don’t forget to subscribe to She Leads Podcast for first access to future episodes. Dr. Angela Fowler is the Director at the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where she advocates for the needs of postdocs and designs workshops for postdocs and grad students to guide career planning. Prior to her position as Director, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at La Jolla Institute for Immunology, researching Zika and Dengue in addition to helping develop a career development program. Career planning is difficult in any stage of life, but even more so during the graduate school and postdoc periods. Research is usually the focus, and it can be difficult to put energy into planning a career that has not happened yet. During her postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Fowler developed a passion for career development after she heard a talk from a career planner who had made it their focus to help postdocs plan their careers. Dr. Angela Fowler earned her PhD in Microbiology at the University of Kansas after completing her Bachelor’s in Biology from Pittsburg State University. Angela is a first-generation college graduate and is the first-ever PhD in her family. What You’ll Hear On This Episode of When Science Speaks [2:30] What do the best manuscripts have in common? It is difficult to plan for careers that have not materialized yet. But the problem will not go away, and the sooner it is addressed, the better. Fortunately, there are experienced professionals who have gone through the process before who give their time and energy to helping others address these very concerns. It was during Dr. Folwer’s postdoc when she developed a passion for career development, in part because of her own experience. She heard a talk from someone who had a position and role which was centered around helping those like her to develop their career while still in a postdoctoral program. The experience inspired Dr. Folwer and she began to volunteer in career development programs, as she speaks about on the podcast. Getting the most out of the postdoc experience Networking and career planning can seem like a distant problem at the beginning of a postdoc. Focusing on the present is always a good idea, but at some point, the experience will end and the sooner that reality is addressed, the smoother the transition will be to a successful career. As Angela talks about during this week’s episode, it is a good idea to begin the postdoc period being mindful of your future career, as well. Multiple career plans and paths can materialize out of a postdoc, and it is not ideal to put off thinking about those possibilities until the postdoc period is almost completed. Dr. Fowler has made it a part of her career to helping postdocs navigate those situations. Once you start working as a service designer you'll quickly realise that climbing up the corporate ladder isn't the typical career path. Usually there is no "up the ladder" for service designers... So how do you make sure you don't get stuck in your career after a few years. The guest in this episode, Angela Yeh, has 20 years of experience helping designers to navigate their career. She works in the super interesting chasm between employers and design talent. In this episode Angela shares why a lot of designers struggle to communicate the unique skills they bring to employers. And as a result of this don't get the opportunity to show what they are capable of. Angela has a few helpful tips on what you can do to explain the value you create even when an employer doesn't know a lot about design. We also talk about the conditions which are needed for designers to thrive. And how to handle situations where these conditions are not (yet) in place. As Angela says it's not so much about the maturity stage of design within a business but much more about the willingness to invest in it. Finally we take on the employer perspective and discuss how what goes through their mind when looking for design talent. Because when you better understand what's going on at the other side of the table you increase your chance of finding the job you'll love. ** EVERY SHARE HELPS ** If you enjoyed this episode consider sharing it with 1 person today who might have find it helpful as well. ----- [ EPISODE GUIDE ] ----- 03:30 - First encounter with Service Design. 05:30 - Why relating to design? 12:45 - How can we create a career where we’re thriving? 22:00 - When will companies hire design talent? 30:15 - Big question: Where do you see the need for service design? ----- [ LINKS FROM THE EPISODE ] -------- * Angela on LinkedIn ➜ https://go.servicedesignshow.com/3-blx * Yeh IDeology ➜ https://go.servicedesignshow.com/et9bv * Thrive by Design ➜ https://go.servicedesignshow.com/q9k84 ----- [ MORE EPISODES ] ----- Enjoyed the show? Your favorite Marks Mirchandani and Mandel are back hosting this week to touch base with Angela Yu about recent updates in Google Maps. As Angela describes Google Maps at a high level, it is your window into the real world, with coverage of Earth’s land and oceans. Google works hard to keep that information updated with satellite pictures, street view Google vehicles, and even backpacks for hikers to record hard to reach areas. The Google Maps API makes it easy for developers to use Maps data in their own projects. It can be used for something as simple as showing location to something more complicated, for example showing the user specific things around them to help them make decisions. Game developers can create rich experiences by building real-world gaming situations with Maps and augmented reality. Using the Places API can display parks, government buildings, and other interesting places beyond streets. And the Routes API can expand the user experience by providing directions, tracking drivers in real time, etc. Maps and Google Cloud together work well with BigQuery to search huge amounts of data and visualize them on a map. In the future, Angela is particularly excited about how ridesharing apps will continue to use Maps and Routes to optimize their businesses. She also looks forward to more augmented reality projects beyond gaming, where data, directions, and more are overlaid on the physical world. Angela Yu Angela Yu is a developer advocate for Google Maps Platform. Throughout her career, she has geeked out on voice recognition, mobile app development, and IoT. Mindfulness is about being present and aware of something. It is where people create their judgments of what they will and will not have. Most people call it searching for the right answer. However, Gary Douglas says sometimes it’s very challenging for people to see the value of it. Gary is a bestselling author and Founder of Access Consciousness. He shares his wisdom about mindfulness and highlights the importance of being aware of everything by asking questions which could improve our lives. Many times, life just kind of, well, hits us. We have a major transition. Or we just hit a plateau. What if you know there is more... you just can't get there? That's when we have to find our "untapped strengths." Angela Stillwell is the "Vulnerability Warrior." Why? Because she discovered that struggling with tough times can keep in in "survivial mode." Angela came from a dysfunctional family situation, with divorce and affairs, abuse, and the loss of her mother when she was young. Yes, she "survivied" (as people would tell her), but that was not enough. She knew there was more; passion, purpose, perspective, service. And Angela set out to find it. As Angela shares with me, there are 3 steps to thriving: Connection Perfect imperfection Resurrection Sounds like a pretty good formula to me! Listen to this week's podcast, as Angela shares her formula, step-by-step. RELATED RESOURCES: Meaning & Purpose Dealing with Tough Times Acceptance Vulnerability Warrior Quiz
My guest on today’s podcast is Angela Ruch. Angela is a NASCAR driver, wife, twin sister and soon to be Mom. Her recent success at Daytona International Speedway (Top 10) and Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Top 20) in the NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck Series will only add to the 2019 highlights for the Ruch family. Angela speaks about her hectic work/life schedule all while getting ready for the birth of their adoptive son. I appreciate Angela giving me a little bit of her day on such an important time in her life and wish her and her family continued successes. BackgroundShe and her sister, Amber Cope, made NASCAR history on October 23, 2010 by being the first twins to compete in one of its top three series. That day they made their NASCAR debut in the Camping World Truck Series in Martinsville, VA. Amber Cope, driving the No. 6 Dodge, finished 26th, while Angela Cope was involved in two incidents within 18 laps of each other early in the race and finished 30th.The twins began racing in Go-Karts at age 9. They quickly gained attention by winning poles and races year after year. By age 15 they stepped up to late-model race cars—even before they had driver's licenses.[1] Angela took 1st place in 2002 at the Lucas Oil Can-Am 150 at the Sun Valley Speedway. In 1995, Angela finished 1st and Amber finished 3rd in the Tri-cities Gold Cup "Yamaha Class". By 1998, both sisters were PSGKA Gold Cup winners in the "Junior Piston Port". Both sisters split seat time in 2006 at the ARCA Re/Max Series at Berlin, Gateway, Chicagoland, Milwaukee Mile, and Toledo, Ohio. By 2008, the twins qualified for the ARCA Re/Max Series at Kentucky Speedway, with positions 8 and 15.She currently competes part-time in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series, driving the No. 8 Chevrolet Silverado for NEMCO Motorsports. Racing CareerAngela and Amber Cope became the third generation of Copes to enter into the world of racing, when, at the young age of nine, the girls' parents gave them a go-kart for Christmas and thus began their road to NASCAR. Once they began competing locally, the girls made a name for themselves and became the most accomplished go-kart racers in the Greater Puget Sound region. In their seven years of driving, go-karts included 50 first place wins and setting on pole position 20 times in the Pacific Northwest. Angela also set new track records at five of six tracks in the same region. At the young age of 15, they progressed to late model race cars even before they had their license to drive. In 2000, a very short time after their debut in late model stock cars they instantly acquired national attention when they were featured on TODAY with host Bryant Gumbel. As Angela and Amber became more experienced and confident behind the wheel, they knew that in order to pursue a career in NASCAR they would have to leave Washington. They moved across the country to Charlotte, North Carolina to start training with their uncle Derrike. The twins put all of their focus into learning the in and outs of professional racing. They traveled with their Uncle Derrike to every Cup race that he went to and became fixtures on the track and in the pit. In 2011, Angela competed in four Nationwide Series races. In 2012, she shared the No. 24 SR2 Motorsports Toyota in the series with Amber Cope and Benny Gordon on a part-time schedule. Five years later, now going by Angela Ruch, she made her return to NASCAR's Xfinity Series at Kentucky Speedway, driving the No. 78 B. J. McLeod Motorsports Chevrolet. In 2019, Angela returned to the Gander Outdoors Truck Series with NEMCO Motorsports. She finished a NASCAR career best 8th at Daytona, her first lead lap finish and the second highest ever for a female in the Truck Series. Gabbing with Angela Moore, the facilities and sustainability coordinator for the Missouri Historical Society. She works to create more sustainable programs and facilitate more sustainable initiatives for the Historical Society. As Angela pointed out, it’s important to preserve history and culture, and to do that you have to preserve the earth so it’s here for many generations to come. One of the Historical Society’s goals is to make history accessible to all. Pair that with their core value of being good stewards and advocates for sustainability, and it just makes sense to look to the past and the future. The Society’s focus permeates all of the areas under their umbrella, including the Missouri History Museum, Soldiers Memorial Military Museum, and Library & Research Center. In fact, the new Soldiers Memorial Military Museum is expecting a LEED certification, so the Society is really putting into practice their goals and values. Sustainability at Missouri Historical Society During her time with the Society, Angela has effectively brought their sustainable actions to the forefront of the community, showcasing the impact those efforts are having. The Missouri Historical Society also participates in the St. Louis Green Business Challenge and has been involved since its early days. In fact, in 2017, they won the St. Louis Green Business Challenge award, champion level. That win invigorated the Missouri Historical Society to do more and share more. Today on Thriving Beyond Belief, we welcome Angela Paxton! What a joy it was to have Angela with me today on the podcast. From her being adopted to her many years in education to raising four children to now her run at Texas State Senate as her husband serves as the Attorney General, we discuss how the Lord has weaved together Angela's story over the years to reveal His purpose for her life today. We discuss what true ministry is and how to use your personal story to relate to others in order to share Jesus with them. Remember that whatever platform the Lord gives you, be present and obedient with His call for you. Angela talks about the fact that the Lord created her to be someone who truly resides in the moment and how she uses that gift for the Lord. She truly has a gift to make people feel seen and heard, and it is evident in the platform the Lord gives her and her husband. We speak on the beauty of differences in others, especially in marriage. Angela encourages us that rather than getting frustrated with your spouse over your differences, we should anchor into those and celebrate how we balance each other out. She speaks on the healthy habits that her and her husband practice in their marriage, especially for them when most of their days are spent apart. We discuss the necessity to nourish the marriage by making time for one another. We really take some time to discuss how the circumstances of our lives lead us to what we dedicate our lives to. As Angela runs for Texas Senate, she realizes that although she never set out in life to be in the political arena, the Lord had been preparing her, with all she had experienced, for this moment her entire life. We speak on fear and how the Lord wants us to lean on Him in those times of fear rather than let it shut us down. Fear is an absence of trust. He wants you to trust in Him in the darkest moments and not lean on your own understanding. We are not called to win the battles in our lives but we are called to simply be obedient and see the Lord be victorious. I hope this episode blesses you today. Enjoy!
Now that we’re halfway through the year, I sat down with my daughter, Angela, to give you a look at what’s happening in our market. Looking to buy a Portland home? Search all homes for sale here. Looking to sell your Portland home? Use our free home evaluation tool here. Now that we’re over halfway through the year, it’s time for us to take a look at what’s going on in our market. Recently, I was joined by my daughter Angela, the team leader for Hatch Homes Group, to talk about why it is that Realtors are feeling a little bit uneasy about certain aspects of the market. The number of days homes are spending on the market has risen a little bit, more listings have come on the market, and there have been more price reductions, as well. So why is all of this happening? As Angela explained, it’s likely caused by an uptick in inventory. She also mentioned, though, that homes that aren’t priced correctly are the only ones really having a problem getting off the market. Homes that are priced right are moving as quickly as ever and with record-low inventory. Buyers are more discerning, as well. Right now, buyers are less willing to settle for a property with problems. So, poorly-prepared homes are really struggling when it comes time for them to undergo inspections. For this reason, we’re experiencing a lot more terminations. “Homes that are priced right are moving as quickly as ever.” This is what makes it so important for sellers to meet with realtors; doing so can help them avoid termination. With all of this considered, many people are wondering if we’re in a bubble. Well, we actually saw this same thing happen last year. According to Angela, there is cause to be optimistic. Sellers who were trying to buy and sell at the same time are now finding themselves in a good position, as there is a little more inventory for them to choose from. The same can be said for buyers, as well. In fact, this is a better opportunity than we’ve seen for buyers in a long time. It’s also a good opportunity for sellers to get the most out of the market. And, because so many people are attracted to the lifestyle, we’re continuing to see an influx of population here in Portland. If you have any other questions or would like more information, feel free to give me a call or send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

There is nothing better than being able to do what you love for the people you love. As Angela says throughout this episode, you can pick your clients but you can’t pick your family. Being able to successfully walk the line between personal relationships and professionalism is essential when planning a memorable event for those closest to you. It can definitely be a challenge to keep that “I know best” attitude at bay, but take a listen as Angela shares an experience when doing just that made for an unforgettable night for her family.
In today’s episode of Our Portuguese Table, Maria & Angela spend some time catching up. Angela thinks Maria has a future in being a motivational public speaker. Not many people are so unconditionally supportive of their friends and family, and Maria's pep talks have helped Angela get through some tough moments! It’s important to listen to your gut, be positive and persevere! Surround yourself with positive people who encourage and inspire you. As Angela said, “Just because other people don’t see [your] vision doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pursue it.” Angela talks about her recent experience at a trade show and how it wasn’t as successful as she’d hoped. But there were many lessons learned, and she continues to work on building her businesses. On the bright side, Angela’s bilingual Portuguese-English children’s book, “Linda Menina, Pretty Girl” is now on sale on Amazon and at http://portuguesebooks.org/books/pretty-girl-linda-menina. Additional books are in the works so stay tuned! Maria has also been a busy lady! Thanks to a major sponsor, her cooking show on PBS in Rhode Island is set to start filming this month and will air across the U.S. and Canada! Some of the episodes will even be filmed in the Azores! And last, but not least, we start talking about Easter foods. Angela is thinking of making a rack of lamb with batatas ao murro (smashed potatos). Maria talks desserts like lemon-coconut cake and, of course, sweet bread! Do you have Maria's book? Buy it here if not! http://azoreangreenbean.com/
"It's been the easiest 33 lbs I've ever lost." ~Angela Angela just discovered Foodist a few months ago after a lifetime of being overweight and chronic dieting. By changing the way she approaches food and health, she's been able to lose 33 lbs in what she calls the easiest weight loss of her life. Despite her success, Angela still has progress to make and is trying to figure out some of the more subtle aspects of her healthstyle. Today she asks a question that every foodist must grapple with at some point along their journey, which is how to know if an urge to eat (or skip a workout or other healthstyle behavior) is coming from a place of physical need or some other impulse that should be resisted? This question is particularly difficult for people who have spent a lot of time dieting, since by its very nature dieting teaches you to ignore your body's basic signals and use willpower to stick to your plan. As Angela explains, it can be very difficult to trust the different voices in your head that are pushing you to care for yourself, especially if you believe they were what caused you to be overweight in the first place. There are several things to consider when you're learning to answer this question for yourself, including what situations are the most important to get right, how to learn from your mistakes when you get it wrong and how not stress out when you find yourself in a position of uncertainty. Remind yourself constantly of how amazing you are." She suggests putting up “I AM” signs everywhere, so you're reminded to be the best version of yourself every day. Listen As Angela Uncovers How moms can understand what their kids need, and that you don’t have to be a nutritionist to lead them into health and wellness. The need to ask the right questions and understanding exactly what is happening to your body Looking within and knowing that wellness is a process; you can’t achieve optimum health in one day Being specific about what you want to happen with your life, in terms of health and wellness Helping moms de-stress and reconnect with their authentic self Don't Get Fancy Angela suggests working on meeting basic nutrition and hydration. You don’t need to be a nutritionist or a chef to deliver the best care for the ones you love. All is you need to do is understand what your body needs and how it reacts to the things you feed it. Think of long-term goals because truth be told, wellness is a process. As Angela puts it, you can’t expect to lose weight all of a sudden if you eat a single apple today. It takes time and effort and patience - and of course, consistency. Wellness Is Happiness Being grateful is the key to unlocking a life of wellness. Angela states you'll know you’ve achieved wellness when there is a vibrant energy that flows through you. You don’t have to be the richest, the fanciest, or the best - you just have to be at peace and at home with who you are and what you have. Moms have the most difficult time dealing with this; especially because of societal pressure - and Angela wants to remind all mothers out there that you are not alone and that you have support.
