Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. The Ohio State Buckeyes entered Sunday's game against the Boston College Eagles with what looked like the potential for a letdown, following an emotional win against No. 5 Tennessee on Tuesday. Instead, career nights by Rebeka Mikulášiková and Jacy Sheldon led to a comfortable 84-62 victory over the ACC side. After the game, Mikulášiková discusses her strong start to the season, featuring two key performances against tough interior presences, what's gone into her improvement this season, and the play of Sheldon and her teammates. Head coach Kevin McGuff follows Mikulášiková up with more about the forward's big first week, Sheldon's record-tying night, the improvement of Taylor Thierry, and looking ahead to Thursday's game in Athens, Ohio, against the Ohio University Bobcats. Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Holy Land's I-70 podcast. On this show, we talk all things Big Ten football and basketball. After every week of action, we will get you caught up on all the conference's games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players that you should be paying attention to in the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan. It is time! Michigan faces Illinois in the showdown Dante and I have been looking forward to for weeks. The stakes are not as high as Illinois is on a two-loss losing streak and may be without star running back Chase Brown but the game is still important. Coming off of two losses Illinois will be more motivated than ever to win this game as a loss will potentially cost them their West Division title that was firmly in their grasp. Michigan is 10-0 and looks like one of the best teams in the country. Like all the top four teams Michigan has flaws but no one has been able to take advantage of them or slow their running game. Illinois has one of the best defenses in the country and is playing for its season. Michigan has one of the best offenses in the country albeit very one-sided and must find a way not to look ahead to a top-three showdown with hated rival Ohio State.  Jim Leonhard has taken full advantage of his opportunity as interim head coach and will most likely be retained for the full-time job. If he is not, you can look at this Iowa loss as the reason why. Wisconsin wasted a great defensive performance which head Iowa to roughly 150 total yards and under four yards per play throughout the game. The defensive performance was for nothing as Iowa's defense and special teams kept Iowa in the game by scoring on a pick-six and winning the field position battle. By beating Wisconsin and Illinois losing to Purdue, Iowa now controls its destiny in the West Division. With a win over Minnesota this week they could secure back-to-back trips to Indianapolis.  Ohio State steamrolled Indiana getting their running game back on track but the story of the weekend came from Kamryn Babb. Babb, a former four-star wide receiver in the 2018 recruiting class has suffered four ACL tears during his career and has not been able to contribute on the field. Babb, a team captain, and the current Block O recipient has affected his teammates positively off the field and has made a lasting impact. On Saturday, after working back from another injury, Babb finally had his moment catching an eight-yard touchdown for his first career catch and touchdown. The Buckeye sideline exploded with excitement, it was clear how much Babb means to the team and how important this moment was.  In their weekly pitstops, Dante celebrates the Steeler's victory. Sure it was over the New Orlean Saints but a win is a win in this tough season for the Steelers. Jordan celebrates Justin Fields' success. The Bears have finally developed an offense that suits Fields and his confidence is through the roof. He is proving himself to be a franchise quarterback, now all that's left is his continual growth and the Bears brass to build around him in the correct way.  Connect with us on Twitter: Jordan: @JordanW330 Dante: @DanteM10216 Learn more about your ad choices. Ohio State was looking to get back on track after hearing from all of the doubters following an ugly win over Northwestern. The Buckeyes did just that against Indiana, putting up over 600 yards of offense in a 56-14 win over the Hoosiers. Ohio State got its ground game going despite injuries mounting among its running backs, and the defense looked strong once again in yet another big W. However, the biggest highlight of the game was Kamryn Babb, who scored his first career touchdown in an Ohio State uniform after years of injuries and setbacks. After Ohio State's 82-56 win over Charleston Southern Thursday night at the Schottenstein Center, Brice Sensabaugh, Zed Key, and Chris Holtmann were all made available to the media. Key and Sensabaugh began, with Key discussing his big night. He had “no idea” that he had racked up a double-double in the first half alone. He also said that grabbing 13 rebounds over 21 minutes made him “pretty tired” but that he had to keep going. Sensabaugh discussed adjustments he made from game one to game two, and also noted that his team played much worse in the second half. He said finishing strong and not letting up in the second half will be emphasized. Holtmann also talked about his team not playing as well in the second half but said there were still some positives from this game. He said that Key is “one of the better offensive rebounders in the Big Ten” and praised his conditioning. He also noted the 11:12 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Ohio State Buckeyes women's basketball team set a high bar when scheduling their season tip-off. Head coach Kevin McGuff and the Scarlet & Gray faced a No. 5 ranked Tennessee Volunteers side featuring three players who are in the conversation for Naismith Player of the Year. What happened was a game of two halves, with the Buckeyes trying to hang in with the SEC side in the first half, but going on an 18-point run in their 87-75 victory. After the game, guard Taylor Mikesell, forward Cotie McMahon and Coach McGuff spoke with the media. Uncut shares everything they said following the big win. Mikesell discusses how it was defense that kept the team in the game, and how special it felt having fan support culminating in students in attendance storming the court following the final buzzer. McMahon talks about getting over the nerves in her first NCAA game, the officiating she believes Ohio State receives and how the seniors and more experienced players worked with her to help make Tuesday's win possible. Also, McGuff discusses poor shooting, the defense that kept them in the game, the special talent of Jacy Sheldon's defense on the night and looking ahead to Boston College on Sunday. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following Ohio State's 91-53 victory over Robert Morris Monday night, Chris Holtmann, Justice Sueing, and Zed Key spoke to the media about the win and what to expect moving forward. Sueing and Key started, and mainly kept to the theme of “any guy on any given night.” Key said that Ohio State has several guys who can “drop 20 any night”, giving the example of Tanner Holden scoring 25 in OSU's exhibition, followed by Sueing's 20 on Monday night. Sueing said that playing for the first time in nearly one full calendar year was emotional for him, but once he missed two free throws early on, the nerves pretty much rolled off. Holtmann followed and spent a good chunk of time talking about Sueing and the difference he makes on both ends of the floor. He referred to him as “one of the better rebounding wings in college basketball” and also said that “A lot of people probably forgot how good a player Justice is” after missing so much time. Holtmann also said that, despite the Buckeyes grabbing 48 rebounds for the first time since November of 2017 (the last time they played Robert Morris), his team still is not where they need to be rebounding the basketball. I-70 Football Podcast: Severe weather and shocking results

Welcome back to another episode of the I-70 football show. This past weekend was littered with weird results throughout the sport as three of the top six teams lost on Saturday including Alabama losing in overtime to Louisiana State University. The weirdness extended to the Big Ten as Ohio State survived a wind storm that featured sustained winds of 30mph and gusts of wind record up to 80 mph to beat Northwestern. Ohio State wanted nothing to do with this game and their energy and effort were lackluster throughout. On a weekend where multiple teams lost their shot at reaching the playoffs, a win is a win.  Speaking of winning, Wisconsin keeps winning under interim head coach Jim Leonhard as he brings his record to 3-1, with a win over Maryland, since taking charge of the Badgers program. Iowa has gotten back to its winning ways and found an offense along the way scoring 33 and 24 points in back-to-back weeks without a defensive touchdown. The consequences of Iowa having an average offense will be unbearable as Kirk Ferentz will use it as an excuse to blame the media for questioning his offense and his son, the offensive coordinator.  Next week will be separation Saturday for the Big Ten West which currently has Illinois at the top at 7-2 with a 4-2 conference record. After Illinois, there is a four-team tie for second place with Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue, and Minnesota all sitting at 3-3 in the conference. Illinois plays Purdue while Iowa and Wisconsin play, a loss will knock at least one team out of the running for the West Division. An Illinois win and they will all but secure the Division and a trip to Indianapolis to face the winner of the Ohio State and Michigan game. In their weekly pit stops, Dante is disappointed in Anthony Davis, again, as he only shot the ball two times in the second half of the Laker's loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jordan talks about the wild weekend in which Clemson and Alabama were all but eliminated from college football playoff contention.  Connect with us on Twitter: Jordan: @JordanW330 Dante: @DanteM10216 Learn more about your ad choices. Despite their worst offensive performance of the season, Ohio State defeated Northwestern on Saturday, 21-7, in a windy and rainy afternoon in Evanston. The final stats indicate the Buckeyes ran for over 200 yards, but nothing came easy on offense as C.J. Stroud completed just 10 of his 26 passes for only 76 yards with no touchdowns. The weather certainly played a factor, but Ohio State looked really unprepared and underwhelming against a Wildcats team that has now lost eight games in a row. Following Ohio State's 101-57 victory over the Chaminade Silverswords at Value City Arena, Tanner Holden, Bruce Thornton, and Roddy Gayle spoke to the media about their first game in front of fans at Ohio State. The three players said that they're confident in themselves against anyone in the nation if they can continue to improve defensively, but also that there were some nerves — especially for the freshmen. After that, head coach Chris Holtmann spoke to the media for about 20 minutes, and was especially critical of his team's rebounding effort (Ohio State only out-rebounded Chaminade by eight, despite winning by 44). Holtmann said that Ohio State played very well for “several stretches” but that he wanted to see a bit more effort, hustle, and certainly more production on the glass. October is full of horror as new scary movies drop, and old favorites end up on streaming services as many of us are searching for a good scare. I watched Halloween Ends, the final film in the Michael Myers series, this weekend and it was not even close to the scariest thing I've seen. That honor belongs to this week's Big Ten schedule as every game ended with a two-score deficit many of them larger than three. The horror doesn't end there, this weekend was full of blowouts, and next weekend's schedule doesn't have a single interesting game or a game with stakes.  The closest game of the weekend was Ohio State vs. Penn State as James Franklin's team continued their streak of playing OSU tough. Penn State was winning most of the game finding ways to slow down the Buckeye offense and held a 21-16 lead with nine minutes left in the game. At that moment it was over as Ohio State flipped the switch and scored 28 fourth-quarter points including a touchdown after a sack-fumble and a pick-six, both by Ohio State defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau. Michigan steamrolled in-state rival Michigan State as the Spartans didnt show fight until after the game when they jumped a Michigan player in the tunnel.  The scariest thing of the year will happen the weekend after Halloween as Northwestern has to spend 60 minutes on the same field as Ohio State. After playing Iowa and allowing them to score 33 points, without a defensive touchdown, Northwestern may want to forfeit this game and cite player safety. The Buckeyes will go into this game looking to fix some issues before they face Michigan with the Big Ten East division title and a spot in the playoffs on the line. This game should come with an R rating, cover your eyes, and don't let your kids watch there will be a lot of blood and gore.  In their weekly pit stops, Jordan laughs at Anthony Davis after his horrid start to the season. In the off-season, AD bragged about not touching a basketball and it's clear he didn't as he struggles early on. Dante thinks that Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson are overrated and should retire as father time is catching up to them.  Connect with us on Twitter: Jordan: @JordanW330 Dante: @DanteM10216 Learn more about your ad choices. After defeating Minnesota, Illinois is officially in the driver's seat for the West division title. All that is standing in their way is a showdown with Purdue, but after beating Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota in back-to-back games it's unlikely they will lose again until a showdown with Michigan. Speaking of Michigan, the Wolverines dominated Penn State with a punishing run game on the backs of another big game from Corum and a personal-best 173 rushing yards for Donovan Edwards. Michigan has looked dominant and should be undefeated going into the Game against the Buckeyes. After an expected victory against Northwestern Wisconsin showed their flaws extend passed their offense as the defense allowed 34 points to a struggling Michigan State team in another losing effort.  After a weekend that solidified what teams are good we will soon find out what teams are bad this upcoming week as Minnesota faces Penn State and Purdue faces Wisconsin. Penn State's run defense will be put to the test again against Mo Ibrahim, a loss here and they are looking at three straight defeats with Ohio State looming the following week. If Wisconsin loses to Purdue their season may be over as they may struggle to reach six wins even with the coaching change. The Buckeyes are back in action this week against a floundering Iowa team. Iowa's defense will have a major challenge with the Buckeye's offense, but even a great defensive performance may be not enough with their lackluster offense.  In their weekly pitstop, the guys are on separate sides of the Yankees and Guardians American League Divisional Series. Dante celebrates the Guardians showing promise in two come from behind victories against the favored Yankees. Jordan laments the Yankee's decision not to have a legitimate closer and the lack of aggressiveness in the trade market and free agency.  Connect with us on Twitter: Jordan: @JordanW330 Dante: @DanteM10216 Learn more about your ad choices. We're back with a new episode, although a bit delayed. In this episode, we discuss last week's slate of games, many of which were not good games but there were a couple of bangers. After blowing out Wisconsin, Illinois outlasts Iowa in a quintessential Big Ten defensive showdown. Despite losing Tommy DeVito and Isiah Washington, Illinois won on the backs of Chase Brown and their kicker. Purdue defeated Maryland at the buzzer after Maryland was called for a questionable ‘illegal man downfield' penalty that negated a successful two-point try.  Last week may not have been a great week but this week is a banger. Coming into the week Illinois, Purdue, and Nebraska are all tied for first place in the West with a 2-1 conference record while Minnesota is one game behind at 1-1. All four of those teams play each other this week as Purdue faces off against Nebraska and Illinois takes on Minnesota in their third straight big game. Nebraska has won two straight with Mickey Joseph at the helm, are they legitimate or will they be proven as frauds? Illinois and Purdue are arguably the two best teams in the West sporting two of the nation's best running backs and top-ten defenses. Can Illinois win three straight games to secure their place at the top of the division? In the East division, Penn State and Michigan meet as undefeated and hope to secure a winner take all game against the Buckeyes for the East. Neither team has played a tough opponent and hopes to protect their quarterbacks with their running game. Which team will execute the game plan better? In his weekly pit stop, Jordan talks about his trip to Death Valley. LSU has one of eight American stadiums that hold over 100,000 people and it was packed as Tennesse came into Baton Rogue. If you have a chance you should definitely make a trip to experience Death Valley and the LSU crowd.  Connect with us on Twitter: Jordan: @JordanW330 Dante: @DanteM10216 Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to a special edition of the I-70 Football Show! Wisconsin shocks the college football world by firing head coach Paul Chryst after losing to former head coach Bret Bielema in a dominant showing for the Illinois Fighting Illini. After taking stock of the football program's direction, athletic director Chris McIntosh decided to relieve Chryst of his coaching duties and promote former star safety and current defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard to interim Head Coach. In this episode, the guys discuss why Wisconsin made this move and what it means for the program's future. While it may be surprising to some it makes sense when you consider the last few years under Chryst and the future of the Big Ten. With a new television contract, an upcoming elimination of divisions, and a 12-team playoff, McIntosh wants his program on the upswing and not going downhill. Chryst has a career record of 56-27, one game behind Bret Bielema, but the program has taken a step back the past three years. After starting 52-16 in his first five seasons, Chryst is 15-10 since 2020 with a 9-8 record after West division opponents. Chryst has led Wisconsin to three Big Ten championships but none in the last two years. After starting 2-3 with losses to Washington State and Illinois, it's safe to assume this will be the third start season without a trip to Indianapolis. Add in a slip in recruiting and the failure to develop top recruits like quarterback Graham Mertz and former five-star offensive lineman Logan Brown and you start to see cracks in the foundation that Chryst can't fix. Jim Leonhard, the Wisconsin wunderkind, is being given a seven-game sample to see if he is the man for the job. While the three of us have concerns that hiring Leonhard would be settling Wisconsin has been scared that Leonhard would take another job and has been itching to promote him. Leonhard will have a tough decision to make between maintaining the Wisconsin way and modernizing the program for the future. Overall Wisconsin has taken a positive step toward the future, a future that Chryst no longer seemed fit to lead. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan. On Saturday former Wisconsin head football coach and athletic director Barry Alvarez sat in the stands to watch his two proteges face off against each other. Former Wisconsin head coach and current Illinois head coach Bret Bielema and current head coach Paul Chryst faced off in a battle of the Alvarez system with Bielema and the Fighting Illini coming out on top by out Wisconsin-ing Wisconsin.  Maryland, Michigan, and Ohio State secure wins and look to be the top three programs in the Big Ten East as Michigan State had taken a significant step back and Penn State struggled to put away a terrible Northwestern team. Aidan O'Connell returned from injury to lead Purdue past Minnesota in an ugly game from start to finish. After week five the West Division has six teams tied for first place with a 1-1 conference record.  In week six, Illinois looks to secure its place as the best team in the Big Ten West with a win over Iowa. They have a tough stretch with Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota in three straight weeks but two wins out of three will set them up for the stretch run towards an Illbuck championship game. Maryland looks to secure its best season under Mike Locksley with a win over Purdue. There's a chance that Maryland reaches bowl eligibility with a month left in the season.  In their weekly pitstop, the guys celebrate Kent State breaking Georgia. After allowing 22 points to the Golden Flashes, the Bulldogs were down double digits to Missouri for over 50 minutes of a 60-minute game. Land-Grant Holy Land's Stick to Sports is unlike any podcast you've heard on the Ohio State beat. Your hosts, Matt Tamanini and Jami Jurich, will (of course) talk Ohio State sports, but the primary focus of the show will be on what's going on around the periphery, such as weird/funny happenings in college football and the sports world at large, as well as other things that keep us interested in between games. On today's episode, Matt and Jami get into just how freaking fun it is to watch the 2022 edition of the Ohio State football team. Despite all of the winning that the program has done over the past two decades, many of the games have been difficult to get through for a variety of reasons. Not this year though, as the team is dynamic, exciting, and loaded with potential on both sides of the ball. Welcome to the newest episode of the I-70 football show. Week four has come and gone and taught us a lot about the Big Ten while setting up some major games in the future, some as early as week five. Ohio State ran Wisconsin off the field going up 28-0 before Wisconsin got off the bus. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that Wisconsin's offense showed up and by then it was far too late as the game was already out of hand. Minnesota had a similar experience against Michigan State dominating them in every facet of the game in a victory that proves they're a true contender.  Illinois continued its winning ways while Northwestern was upset by Miami(OH), a middling program in the Mid-American Conference. Indiana comes back to earth after getting bullied by Wisconsin and two former Big Ten quarterbacks as shining on their new teams. In their week five review Dante and Jordan talk about the games that have an immediate impact. Minnesota starts its journey toward becoming the Big Ten West champion with a game against Purdue while Michigan and Maryland hope to bounce back after losing last week. Illinois has been a pleasant surprise this season and has a legitimate shot at upsetting Wisconsin, a team who has largely been a disappointment so far.  In their weekly pit stops, Jordan discusses his upcoming trip to Louisana. He get to go to death valley and watch LSU play Tennesse and experience a true sicko game in person as the Saints take on the Seahawks. Dante's bank account is so full he's planning on getting a tattoo and celebrating Kent State's homecoming.  Connect with us on Twitter: Jordan: @JordanW330 Dante: @DanteM10216 Learn more about your ad choices. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. On this episode of "Land-Grant Holy Land Uncut," we have press conference audio from the press conference following No. 3 Ohio State's 52-21 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday, Sept. 24. Buckeye head coach Ryan Day and quarterback C.J. Stroud met with the media to provide insight into how the home team was able to effectively dominate every aspect of the game. Day discussed why the stable of Miyan Williams and TreVeyon Henderson is working so well when tandem backfields have often underperformed in the past for Ohio State, He also praises the defense for effectively shutting down Badgers' running back Braelon Allen during the meaningful portion of the game, and he discusses some of the injuries that his team has been dealing with. Stroud talks about the momentum that the offense built in the early portion of the game and how that carried the entire team forward. The quarterback also praised the team's two top running backs, not only for their carrying of the ball, but also their pass blocking as well. He also reiterated how important the offensive line is to the team's ability to score seemingly at all. Theme music provided by www.bensound.com  Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode, Gene and Josh recap Ohio State's Week 4 victory over Wisconsin. The Buckeyes entered the contest with a bunch of injuries, including once again missing top receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba as well as three scholarship cornerbacks, but it was no problem as they dismantled the Badgers in Columbus, 52-21. C.J. Stroud continued to excel in his Heisman campaign, Cade Stover proved once again to be a reliable offensive weapon, and Jim Knowles' defense held Paul Chryst's squad in check. Ohio State is 4-0 to begin the season, and there is a lot to like about Ryan Day's group on both sides of the ball.
