Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. If you somehow missed it, the No. 25 Ohio State Buckeyes traveled to Durham, North Carolina Wednesday night to tangle with the No. 17 Duke Blue Devils and were defeated, 81-72. Ohio State turned the ball over 16 times, and a crucial stretch at the end of the first half allowed Duke to turn a close game into a 10-point lead at halftime. After the game, head coach Chris Holtmann spoke to the media about the reasons his team fell behind. He said there were a lot of “dumb” fouls and that Duke's size “threw them off their rhythm” leading to only six team assists. Captains Justice Sueing and Zed Key then met with the Ohio State media outside of the Buckeyes' locker room. Sueing said that many of the Buckeyes' mistakes are “correctable” and that he knows he'll face teams similar to Duke this season, so he needs to adjust and not get in foul trouble again like he did against the Blue Devils. Tate, who co-hosts the Titus and Tate Podcast and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, brings a unique perspective to Duke basketball. Should Tate be hitting the panic button on his North Carolina Tar Heels, or should Duke fans be reaching for that same button? We discussed both with Tate, as well as what Chris Holtmann's strategy should be walking into Cameron Indoor against the No. 1 offensive rebounding team in the country. Tate also tells everyone his thoughts on Coach K./ Mr. K's absence from the Duke men's basketball program, and his decision to keep his sixth-floor office rather than handing it off to the new coach, Jon Scheyer. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. The now-ranked No. 25 Ohio State Buckeyes are flying to Durham on Wednesday to face the No. 17 Duke Blue Devils in a rematch of last season's Big Ten-ACC Challenge that was played in Columbus. Exactly one year ago to the day, the top-ranked Blue Devils held a 13-point lead at halftime but faltered in the second half, losing to E.J. Liddell, Zed Key, and the gang, 71-66. The students rushed the court in a frenzy as Coach K went out a loser in his final B1G-ACC challenge game. The rosters are drastically different and Duke has a new coach in Jon Scheyer, but the two teams are facing off again tomorrow night, except this time the showdown is in Durham. On Tuesday afternoon, freshman guard Bruce Thornton, senior guard Sean McNeil, and head coach Chris Holtmann met with the media to preview the matchup. Thornton and McNeil spent a considerable amount of time discussing Duke's size and elite rebounding, but both players expressed confidence in their chances of winning this tough road game. Holtmann also gave Scheyer and the Blue Devils copious amounts of credit for their performance to this point, and said that Duke's rebounding is a huge concern for his team. On this week's episode, Connor and Justin recap a successful Maui Invitational for the Ohio State men's basketball team that saw them win two games and stay competitive in the third. After losing to No. 17 San Diego State by 11 on the first night, the Buckeyes blew out the Cincinnati Bearcats and followed that up with a wire-to-wire win over the No. 21 Texas Tech Red Raiders. Was 2-1 the best possible outcome? Clearly not, because Chris Holtmann's team is not bringing home a trophy. But the Buckeyes went up against two top-10 defenses on the island and had arguably their three most impressive showings overall. Throwing the four freshmen out to the wolves against an experienced San Diego State team will pay dividends down the line. Adding a win over a ranked team to your resume will help boost their resume come tournament time. Truly, there's not a whole lot more you can ask for — aside from winning it all. Likekele and Sensabaugh began, with Likekele giving credit to Eastern Illinois. He reminded everyone that despite rankings, they're “Still division-I athletes” and a “talented squad.” Likekele talked about the halftime mood when Ohio State was only up three points, and what Holtmann told them during their break. Sensabaugh was asked about his career-high 20 points and how he has adjusted from game one to game three. Holtmann spoke last, and — like Ice — gave credit to Eastern Illinois. He said he didn't see the effort he wanted to see from some of his older players in the first half, and made it clear he won't be afraid to make mass substitutions quickly if it happens again. Key and Sensabaugh began, with Key discussing his big night. He had “no idea” that he had racked up a double-double in the first half alone. He also said that grabbing 13 rebounds over 21 minutes made him “pretty tired” but that he had to keep going. Sensabaugh discussed adjustments he made from game one to game two, and also noted that his team played much worse in the second half. He said finishing strong and not letting up in the second half will be emphasized. Holtmann also talked about his team not playing as well in the second half but said there were still some positives from this game. He said that Key is “one of the better offensive rebounders in the Big Ten” and praised his conditioning. He also noted the 11:12 assist-to-turnover ratio. Following Ohio State's 91-53 win Monday night, Connor and Chris — who is pinch hitting for Justin — discuss what trends we can pull from the Buckeyes' season-opening win. Will the speed with which they played on Monday night carry over for the rest of the season? Could we see Ohio State make big leaps in tempo and defensive efficiency this season, based on what we're seeing early? The guys also briefly discuss Chris Holtmann's comments from Wednesday regarding the 2023 class. Could the Buckeyes add another piece to the 2023 late in the cycle — a la a Bronny James? This would largely depend on how many players transfer out in the spring. Which lead them into another topic — after one game, is Ohio State's nine-man rotation already established? If not, how can the three players who currently sit on the outside of that top-nine break in? Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following Ohio State's 91-53 victory over Robert Morris Monday night, Chris Holtmann, Justice Sueing, and Zed Key spoke to the media about the win and what to expect moving forward. Sueing and Key started, and mainly kept to the theme of “any guy on any given night.” Key said that Ohio State has several guys who can “drop 20 any night”, giving the example of Tanner Holden scoring 25 in OSU's exhibition, followed by Sueing's 20 on Monday night. Sueing said that playing for the first time in nearly one full calendar year was emotional for him, but once he missed two free throws early on, the nerves pretty much rolled off. Holtmann followed and spent a good chunk of time talking about Sueing and the difference he makes on both ends of the floor. He referred to him as “one of the better rebounding wings in college basketball” and also said that “A lot of people probably forgot how good a player Justice is” after missing so much time. Holtmann also said that, despite the Buckeyes grabbing 48 rebounds for the first time since November of 2017 (the last time they played Robert Morris), his team still is not where they need to be rebounding the basketball. The three players said that they're confident in themselves against anyone in the nation if they can continue to improve defensively, but also that there were some nerves — especially for the freshmen. After that, head coach Chris Holtmann spoke to the media for about 20 minutes, and was especially critical of his team's rebounding effort (Ohio State only out-rebounded Chaminade by eight, despite winning by 44). Holtmann said that Ohio State played very well for “several stretches” but that he wanted to see a bit more effort, hustle, and certainly more production on the glass. On “The Dotted Line”, Land-Grant Holy Land's Matt Tamanini talks to recruiting experts, LGHL's recruiting analysts, and prospects themselves to get a unique perspective on the players that will be a part of Ohio State's future. On today's episode of Land-Grant Holy Land's recruiting-centric podcast, we are taking a brief break from football as Chris Holtmann and his Ohio State men's basketball team are expecting to land another major commitment on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. ET in the No. 31-ranked player in the country, four-star combo guard Taison Chatman. The Minneapolis native is down to five schools, OSU, Kansas, Xavier, Minnesota, and Virginia, but all of 247Sports' crystal balls place him as the fourth member of Holtmann's 2023 class. On the episode, Matt Tamanini and Justin Golba discuss how his presumed commitment came to be, what role George Washinton III's decommitment last week had on Chatman, and what this does (or doesn't) mean for the recruitment of Bronny James. Ohio State lost a pair of NBA picks. This looks like Chris Holtmann's toughest job yet in Columbus. And yet, it's Holtmann ... so this still feels like a 2023 tournament team. The freshman class is his best yet. PLUS: Bronny James just took a visit with LeBron. Is OSU the favorite to land him? Land-Grant Holy Land's newest podcast, ‘Bucketheads' takes you on a journey across the college basketball landscape every episode. The only basketball-focused podcast in the LGHL family of podcasts, co-hosts Connor Lemons and Justin Golba give the latest scoop on the Ohio State Buckeyes as well as all the other happenings in the college hoops world. This week, Connor and Justin are joined by four-star small forward Scotty Middleton, who is also the newest member of Ohio State's 2023 recruiting class. Scotty currently plays for Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, but he's been moving from state to state most of his life. We had the opportunity to hear Scotty's story, including which city he'll (probably) want the PA announcer to say he's from when he gets to Ohio State. We also spoke to Scotty about his official visit, his relationship with the other members of the 2023 class, and his goals for his upcoming senior season at Sunrise. We close with a rapid fire round of quick questions, including asking what his go-to road trip snack is and who would win an arm wrestling match between Chris Holtmann and Jake Diebler. Connor and Justin also took some time to break down Bronny James' ever-evolving recruitment, and what a commitment to Ohio State would look like. The impacts would extend far beyond the basketball court, that's for sure. Ryan reads today's daily meditation and talks to NBA Spurs basketball player Kieta Bates-Diop about his journey getting into the NBA, what he's learned playing for coach Gregg Popovich, doing what you do you because you love it not for money, and more.Keita Bates-Diop is a pro basketball player for the NBA's San Antonio Spurs. He played college basketball for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Despite several setbacks and challenges throughout his career, Keita has been able to excel because of his relentless work ethic and mindset. He was a bench player as a freshman at OSU in the 2014–15 season. As a sophomore, he expanded his role on the team, but as a junior, he suffered a stress fracture in his left leg, sitting out all but the first nine games, while the Buckeyes limped to a 17–15 record without him. He was granted a medical redshirt and came into his redshirt junior campaign one of the top options for new coach Chris Holtmann. Keita went on to finish his college career being named a multi-time Big Ten Player of the Week and player of the year for Ohio State. At the beginning of his professional career, Keita experienced another set-back due to illness and started in the NBA G League, but in 2018 he came back and was drafted by the Timberwolves.Blinkist takes top nonfiction titles, pulls out the key takeaways and puts them into text and audio explainers called Blinks that give you the most important information in just 15 minutes.
