In today’s world, the power of influence can be the quickest path to money and fame, and it often ends in ruin. These are the stories of the world’s most insidious Scamfluencers. And we are their prey. On Wondery’s new weekly series, join co-hosts Scaachi Koul and Sarah Hagi as they unpack epic stories of deception from the worlds of social media, fashion, finance, health, and wellness. These influencers claim to be everything from charismatic healers to trusted financial insiders to experts in dating. They cast spells over millions. Why do we believe them, and how does our culture allow them to thrive? From Black Swan Murder to a fake social media influencer to an audacious Hollywood Ponzi schemer, each season will take the listener along the twists and turns, the impact on victims, and what’s left when the facade falls away.
The Scamfluencers podcast is a fascinating and well-paced show that delves into the world of scammers and their schemes. As someone who enjoys crime stories, I appreciate the unique focus on scams rather than true crime murder cases, which can often be quite dark. The storytelling is engaging and the hosts have a great rapport that adds to the enjoyment of the podcast.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the pleasant voices of the hosts. Even though I usually prefer a single host for a continuous story, these two podcasters work excellently together. They manage to maintain a continuous narrative while also having back-and-forth banter that adds humor and helps explain situations in a funny way. The details they provide about each person's backstory are also appreciated as it helps humanize both the scammers and their victims.
On the other hand, some listeners may find that there is too much banter between the hosts. While I personally enjoy their dynamic, others may prefer a more straightforward storytelling approach without as much back-and-forth conversation. Additionally, although some reviewers claim that this show is woke or racist, as a white conservative listener, I appreciate hearing different viewpoints and cultures being represented. However, opinions may vary on this matter.
In conclusion, The Scamfluencers podcast is an excellent show with captivating stories and entertaining hosts. It offers a refreshing break from true crime murder podcasts while still keeping listeners engaged with interesting tales of scammers and their downfall. With its mix of storytelling, humor, and diverse perspectives, this podcast is definitely worth checking out for those who enjoy light-hearted yet informative content.

Michael Milken is known as the King of Junk Bonds. In the early 80s, he pioneered a novel way to finance companies that traditional investors normally wouldn't touch. His high-risk, high-reward investing strategy upended decades of Wall Street norms. And it made celebrities out of Michael and the corporate raiders he funded, like T. Boone Pickens, Rupert Murdoch, and Carl Icahn. Michael did make it possible for smaller companies to access capital. But he did it by breaking norms, ethical codes, and financial regulations in order to manipulate the system at every turn. Joe Francis created an empire of spring break smut with the “Girls Gone Wild” video series. But the story behind the alcohol-fueled antics is darker than you think. Scaachi interviews Jamila Wignot, director of the docuseries “Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story” as they revisit Scaachi's original reporting on Joe Francis, and the questionable filming practices, sloppy record-keeping, illegal tax write-offs, and assault allegations that brought Girls Gone Wild to its ignoble end.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This month a musical featuring a Scamfluencers alum closed its doors on Broadway. Tammy Faye featured music by Elton John and told the story of a televangelist who stole America's heart with her humor, earnestness, and impressive eye makeup. You may no longer be able to see the musical, but we're giving you the next best thing: a return to our own coverage of Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim. Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker get their start in Christian broadcasting in the early 1960s and quickly become television superstars. As their fame explodes, they build an empire complete with their own network, a theme park, and a super-sized luxury lifestyle for themselves. But when their spending – and their scandals – get out of control, they'll face their own judgment day. This episode contains descriptions of sexual assault. If you or someone you know is a survivor looking for resources, call the U.S. National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-H-O-P-E.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more! Now that he's been tapped to run the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, we're revisiting how this former TV doctor survived scandal and shifted into politics. In the mid-90s, Dr. Mehmet Oz is a rock star surgeon with a reputation for performing on high-profile clients. He eventually scores his own television show, and soon he becomes daytime television royalty. Oprah even dubs him “America's doctor.” But his drive for stardom has him hawking questionable products, mostly related to weight loss. When his medical reputation is up in the air, he does what past-their-prime reality stars do best: he pivots to politics. In this episode we examine America's favorite pastime: gambling. With loosening regulations, the explosion of online betting sites, and the full support of major sports leagues, sportsbetting has become ripe for scam. In this episode we meet an accountant who worked the system and bilked an NFL team out of millions, an interpreter who conned one of baseball's greatest players, and a basketball player who bet against himself. In all three cases, the stakes are high and hopes are dashed when luck runs out. Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more!
