Who do you talk to the most? Maybe you're thinking: “my spouse, my kids, my friends, or my coworkers.” This may surprise you but the answer is none of the above. On a daily basis, the person you talk to the most is, without question, yourself. We each have around 70,000 self-talk thoughts a day. And here's the problem—80% of them are negative. When we hear a steady barrage of negative words from the person we talk to by far the most, life becomes anything but simple. Disempowering thoughts (I'm a bad mom, I'm a mess, I'm so overwhelmed, This day is terrible), especially when repeated often, drag us down and complicate our lives. These thoughts distract us from the present moment, keep us from meeting our goals and stop us from fully living our lives; however, what if we could apply the idea of decluttering to this area of life? Joining me today to encourage us as we ‘declutter' negative self-talk is Julia Ubbenga, voice behind the popular social media account and blog, Rich in What Matters. Today Julia will take us through her process of forming better habits around the way we speak to ourselves. -------------------------------Links Discussed in This EpisodeOrder a Copy of Minimalist Moms: Living and Parenting with SimplicityMinimalist Resource: My Hygge Home by Meik WikingDr. Amen's “ANT Catching” tool: https://ahha.org/selfhelp-articles/ant-therapy/Dr. Amen bookArticle “Three things to say to your child every day”The Hope EffectIG Live with Becker: https://www.instagram.com/p/ClHLfG_AwlB/Connect with Julia:website: https://richinwhatmatters.com/instagramShow Notes for EP252: Let's Declutter: Negative Self-TalkEnjoy this Podcast?Post a review and share it! I LOVE when I get to have a conversation with one of my all-time favorite pastors, Louie Giglio! Talking to Louie about all things Jesus is just the BEST! His newest book, Winning the War on Worry, is such a breath of fresh air as we walk towards our Thanksgiving celebrations next week. Also, be sure to grab a copy of his newest devotional, At the Table with Jesus. Y'all are going to love these two books and this conversation! In late August 1990, Gainesville, Florida fell victim to a serial killer. Over the span of less than a week, five college students were brutally murdered in their homes. Police couldn't figure out who was behind the gruesome attacks and the Gainesville community was absolutely terrified. Doors were triple locked and roommates were sleeping in shifts. A suspect was jailed, but the DNA didn't match. Meanwhile, a man was jailed in Ocala, Florida, the suspect of multiple armed robberies. Two completely different types of crimes, and no one suspected that that robberies and the murders were committed by the same person. To their suprise, they were wrong, and the man responsible for the Gainesville murders and countless armed robberies, was actually already in prison. Unbeknownst to detectives though, Danny Rolling's murders in Gainesville weren't his first. Rolling had killed before he'd even entered the state of Florida, annihilating an entire family, all before he was fearfully dubbed the Gainesville Ripper. On a rainy October afternoon in the small town of Potsdam, New York, a young woman called 911 to tell them that she heard some odd noises coming from the apartment across from hers. The noises sounded like a child in danger. When an officer finally arrived, he heard footsteps inside and the sound of the door's lock clicking when he knocked. When he finally gained access, the officer found 12-year-old Garrett Phillips pulseless. He began CPR and Garrett was transported quickly to the hospital, but he ultimately died. The only evidence left behind was a bent window screen and a few fingerprints. Investigators immediately focused their attention on the victim's mother's ex-boyfriend, Nick Hillary, and he became an outcast, despite no physical evidence of his involvement. Were police targeting him because of his race and pushing another prime suspect aside because he was, GET THIS, another police officer? Or was the investigator's tunnel vision being exagerrated and Nick Hillary really was responsible for the savage murder of a little boy? On April 22nd, 1974, the Hi-Fi store in Ogden, Utah was the scene of one of the most gruesome, inhumane attacks in US history. Over the course of a few hours, hostages were tortured, raped, and shot while the perpetrators loaded up stolen audio equiptment to sell later. The city of Ogden was on edge after the murders, but suspects quickly emerged and were arrested. Of the 5 hostages taken that night, 2 survived, and one of them was able to testify in court about the horrors they endured. ***TRIGGER WARNING*** Murder With a Firearm - Torture - Rape Hang with us: Follow Us on Instagram Like Us on Facebook Join our Case Discussion Group on Facebook Get Killer Queens Merch Bonus Episodes Support Our AMAZING Sponsors: Mad Rabbit: If you go to MadRabbit.com/queens and use promo code QUEENS you'll receive 25% off. We're so excited to start our summer series about how a book gets made! This week we're talking all about book agents, from what they do to how authors find an agent in the first place. We brought on Taylor Haggerty, an agent at Root Literary representing commercial fiction for teens and adults, and Iman Hariri-Kia, writer and editor born and based in New York City whose debut novel A Hundred Others Girls will be published July 26th by Sourcebooks. We chat with Iman about her writing process for A Hundred Other Girls and how she found, queried, and picked out an agent to work with. Taylor explains an agent's role in the publishing process and shares her tips for choosing the right agent, how to regroup if you get passed on, and she gives us a sense of how much money an author can expect to make for a debut novel. Lise Lotte-Lublin didn't recall being sexually assaulted until 20 years after the fact while watching an interview with a famous model whose story seemed familiar. When she went to authorities only to learn nothing could be done, she decided to take the law into her own hands. She went on to change three sex crimes laws in her home state of Nevada, including the statute of limitations. She helped fellow survivors in other states do the same. And then, she testified before the man that she says attacked her all those years ago: Bill Cosby. This episode is part of a ten-part series called Let The Women Do The Work. Shane Sprenger disappeared from Vida, Oregon, on November 2, 2021. Shane was a contractor, and on that day, he was working at a job site near McKenzie Bridge, Oregon. Around 9:30 am, Shane left the job and returned to his home in Vida. No one ever saw Shane again. In the days following his disappearance, Shane's truck was found abandoned on a logging road near the Blue River Reservoir, about 16 miles away from his home. The area where they found the vehicle was one of Shane's favorite mushroom picking spots. It was suggested by some people close to Shane that maybe he had gone mushroom picking and got lost. However, it was later discovered that Shane planned to return to the job site to meet with a subcontractor. It did not make sense that Shane would have stopped to pick mushrooms because all clues indicated that he was planning to return to work after a quick break. Shane's family in Minnesota had no idea that anything was wrong until they got a phone several days after Shane vanished. They made the trip to Oregon to search for him. They began to hear strange stories about the day Shane disappeared, tales that simply weren't adding up.If you have any information about Shane Sprenger's disappearance, please contact the Lane County Sheriff's Office at 541-682-4150.
