The internet brings convenience to every transaction we make. Establishing a business online involves less hassle as well. But how do we ensure that our company will be successful and would create profit? In today's podcast episode, our guest James Schramko tells us about his experience working in the corporate world before deciding to establish his own successful business. He shares how he accomplished working less and making more profit. He is the founder of SuperFastBusiness and Silver Circle, helping entrepreneurs quickly double or triple their revenues by working less. He is also the author of the book Work Less, Make More. Check out the episode's highlights, and also make sure to listen to the podcast for an in-depth discussion of our topic. Early Work in the Motor Trade Business (2:31) James worked at Mercedes Benz. He later realized that he felt restricted in what he was doing. He found online marketing skills and techniques by accident. Determining the Right Business Model (13:05) Determine the target income for a certain period. Break down the essential questions about this goal. Gather answers from these questions to help assess which model is suitable for the business. Identify and explain the pros and cons of this suggested business model. 12-Week Cycle (15:23) Not focusing too much on long term goals. Set a theme for work. For example, search engine optimization: The team will focus on making emails more deliverable and speeding up the website. Distractions can drag agenda or plans down. Set one high-impact task per week. 80/20 Rule (22:49) Use filters or tools that help you identify which things are high-impact. Look out for the crucial things. Make this an automatic habit. Systems and Processes (26:50) Noah's Ark principle: Keeping two people assigned per task for efficiency. If someone leaves, the other person will still know how to work on the assigned task and can train the next person. Create an SOP to track urgent tasks. Keeping Talented and Trained People (29:48) Have good pre-interview criteria in advance and then do multiple interviews. Hire and train the employees well. Pay salaries early. Provide flexible work conditions. Encourage and praise employees. Ask the employees what they're passionate about and work on those projects. Immerse in their culture and lifestyle. How to Keep Motivated (40:35) “I think about [surfing]. That's enough for me. I wake up and check the forecast and get a good surf in each day.” Book Recommendation and Daily Rituals (42:41) Indistractable by Nir Eyal Sleeping early enough and waking without an alarm clock Drinking water first thing in the morning Surfing everyday James' routine includes an analogue activity to keep him grounded You can contact James at james@superfastbusiness.com. Nicola was experiencing a difficult and confusing week and no sooner had she reached out to Judith for some help than things began to improve. In The Show It has been a cooler week in Stoupa and all her guests are gone, but Nicola’s internet is still not fixed which has made it difficult for her to do everything she wants to online and in her business. And she’s still without a cleaner. Judith has found Suffolk to be full of bug perils (tiny wasps and big fat mozzies), and also surprisingly social with two outings in six days. That’s a lot for her. What’s Fuelled Their Fire? Judith really enjoyed an outing with a long-time colleague in the Waitrose café at Sudbury (!) and Nicola couldn’t find anything whatsoever to discuss in this section this week, which she explains later. Focus Of The Week Nicola was experiencing a difficult and confusing week and no sooner had she reached out to Judith for some help than things began to improve. She’s had some challenges but really couldn’t work out what to do about them. Judith and she debate the bigger issue and try to draw some conclusions and what, if anything, is to be done. Start with simplifying the problem, and testing solutions one at a time. LISTEN HERE TO OWN IT #237 | Dust and Doldrums Words Of The Week Nicola chooses Doldrums and Judith picks Language. Project Updates Nicola mentions podcast download numbers, generally up, her big project is still on after she tickled the other side into a timely response, no progress on her audio book but she’s invested in some Instagram influencer marketing with gratifying early results in terms of follower numbers. Who Or What’s Impressed Nicola enjoyed Ryan Levesque’s interview with James Schramko about RL’s new book Choose. Judith enjoyed Howard Jacobson on R4’s Point of View, talking about The Language of Leaving. *** Join our free Facebook Group for Own It! the Podcast and talk back to us about what you hear in the show. SFBTV SuperFastBusiness® Online Business Videos With James Schramko on Apple Podcasts
James Schramko here and I want to share with you a way that you can actually move your business forward a bit quicker. Sometimes, you have a project that you know you need to do but you're just not doing it. And it's because you don't feel like you have time to do it. Everyone else pushes in front. Well, I suggest a few things. Firstly, block time for yourself. Secondly, create an alter-ego. I recently interviewed Todd Herman about this. He has a book on the subject and you can create a better version of yourself. So think about that project you've been putting off and create the alter-ego of yourself, the version who actually completes that project and is happy about what the project brought to the table. In fact, treat yourself as your own best client. Almost like you're someone else. That technique can help you put the time and effort into it and then everyone else has to fit around that. That's where scheduling comes into it and making sure you pay yourself first and then everyone else can take terms. In my life, I like to surf every day. Me surfing every day is number one priority and then everything has to fit around that. And I know a lot of people say I don't have time. You do have time. You've got so much time, it's ridiculous. The average American spends five or six hours a day watching videos which is one reason why I make videos. But I also keep my videos really short. So stop watching Netflix and start making your next project for your alter-ego version of yourself and see if that helps. I'm James Schramko. I hope you've enjoyed this. SFBTV SuperFastBusiness® Online Business Videos With James Schramko on Apple Podcasts
James Schramko here, and today I want to share a special important point about your business career and your future. Here's the fact, certain things happen to you that's for sure. You were born, you didn't have much control over that and then for a certain period in your life, there's other people taking control and programming you and formatting you the way that they thought was probably best for you. And some people have a difference between a really good upbringing or a terrible upbringing. But the point is, once you're an adult and fully functioning, you can now take the reins. You are in control of your destiny. You get to choose what you do today. So, start making choices that benefit you. So, really now, it just comes down to letting go of the excuses and letting go of the shackles and the ropes that bind you in the past and deciding that you want to make a change, that you are ready to move forward, and you take the steps. The person looking back at you in the mirror is the one in the driver's seat for your future. So, I hope this gives you a little bit of inspiration, and I look forward to seeing what you can do with that. See our products HERE.

James Schramko here. I want to talk about a problem that you can have and you may not even be aware of this. So, one thing facing the average business owner is that you're going to have at some point a team. Now, what happens if you have too few team members? Well, the situation is that you start sabotaging your ability to go and win new business because you know secretly deep down, whether consciously or unconsciously, that you can't deal with the business if you win it so you stop trying. And if you do get the business then now you don't have enough capacity and you'll deliver a bad result the customer won't come back. Now on the flip side, if you have a few too many people in your team that's OK because now you have people cross-training. You've got depth. If someone leaves or goes away, it's not going to interrupt the flow of business. You can deliver a fast and excellent result for your customers and the worst thing that can happen is that you eat into a little bit of profit. But I would rather run over capacity than under capacity when it comes to team, and if you've got extra people around doing nothing, find a project for them to do. I call this an infinity project, and that is a project they can work on if we're not busy on the front-end office stuff. They can go and do this forever. It could be creating a blog in your space or something on your passion or hobby as I do. But in the meantime, you're out there winning business knowing that you can handle it because you've got the right amount of team, which is however many you need plus a little bit extra. James Schramko here. So I just went to the shops and there's something missing from many shops that they need to have. I purchased something after I found an assistant (which took forever). And then on my way out of the shop, the buzzer was beeping because my assistant didn't deactivate whatever security device was in the item that I purchased. So I felt a little bit uncomfortable about that and then I had to go and track down the assistant again to have it fixed. So my tip today is: whatever product or service you have, make sure you have a great level of service. It's such a basic requirement that so many big companies miss. Hope you've enjoyed today's tip. 8 short tips on how to get more podcast listeners.
SFBTV SuperFastBusiness® Online Business Videos With James Schramko on Apple Podcasts
James Schramko here, and if there is one piece of real estate that I really cherish in my business, it's this - I send out an email most weeks because I do new podcasts, and in that email is a P.S. And the P.S. is a call to action. It does not have to be related to what's in the email. It could be a way that you could gently make an offer. Often, I'm putting my book or my audible for the book Work Less Make More. And no matter what the email is about that P.S. is very, very useful real estate. Below the P.S., you can still put a signature file. You can put a bunch of links if you want, but make sure you're using your P.S. And the P.S. is especially good for reinforcing whatever was in the email itself because most people skip down. They do the subject line, they're having a little scan of the email, but the P.S. almost always stands out, and you will definitely get a lot of clicks. See our products HERE.
Today I want to point you in the direction of an incredible free resource. It's James Schramko's free mini course, called own the racecourse. James is one of the best content marketers in the world, his blog is great, his podcasts are great, all his content is amazing it's worth modelling. James calls his content marketing system, owning the racecourse. If you go this his superfastbusiness blog you'll find the mini course there. http://www.superfastbusiness.com/traffic/own-the-racecourse-training-introduction/ This is the first page of 14 pages on his blog where he delivers the course. Start on this page then at the bottom of every page there will be a link to the next part of the course. He'll show you how to assemble your dream team who will help you do your content marketing so you're not having to do this all yourself, how to come up with great content ideas that your audience will love, how to create, produce, publish and syndicate your content all over the web, how to measure the success of your content marketing and also a complete checklist of tools needed to make this all work. There's also some bonus sections as well as James update own the racecourse reloaded. The entire course would take less than a couple of hours to complete but by the end of it you'll know exactly how to have a content marketing machine, cranking out new content on very regular schedule which get's the attention of your market, with minimal effort on your part. So take the time to go through it. Also you can check out my interview with James, episode 12 where we discuss his owning the racecourse method. My recommendation would be to go through the course starting at http://www.superfastbusiness.com/traffic/own-the-racecourse-training-introduction/ and then listen to the podcast and see if you gain any extra insights
Owning the racecourse is an online marketing method perfected by James Schramko. He uses it to get 50 hot opt-ins per day and it's something anyone can do. It's traffic, content marketing and conversion all rolled into one.
