2 weeks of MMA news to get into! Highlights include: - Dustin beats Conor and all the fallout - Nick Diaz and Khamzat get fights booked for their returns - TJ Dillashaw back against Sandhagen - Ian Garry signs for the UFC - Askar Askarov looks to book himself a title shot
We've got 2 weeks of news to get through in the MMA world. A huge weekend for Cage Warriors as they put on another Trilogy event, with Ian Garry further cementing his case for a UFC contract. Plus there's news of an interim title shot for Cyril Gane after his win against Volkov, against the Black Beast, Derrick Lewis. What's going on here? Where's Francis at?! Then it's the big one this weekend! No, not Conor v Dustin, but Wonderboy v Burnsy!
The Korean Zombie put on a pretty professional performance to solidify himself in the top 5, but the people's main event was Davey Grant v Chito Vera. Vera came away with the win but some of the scoring was atrocious! Plus we've got big fight announcements with Chiesa v Luque being extra spicy. Then before the UFC take a couple of weeks off, a decent card to get stuck into this weekend with Cyril Gane looking to get himself a title shot against Volkov. Oh, and Cage Warriors Trilogy, 3 nights in a row!
We've done an 'in-person' pod for this first time since all this lockdown lark started, and we picked a great UFC card to review! Brandon Moreno is probably the biggest winner of the night but you'll struggle to find a better frappling performance than the one Paul Craig put on. As always after a PPV card the UFC put on a bit of a sleeper. and we've got a couple of British fighters on there as well, with a huge opportunity for Davey Grant to bear Chito Vera
We've got some very special guests this week with Scott and Marc from Inside The Cage podcast joining us. Being proud Scotsmen, it seemed only right that we get them on to preview the big UFC 263 card with Paul Craig and Joanne Calderwood hoping to pick up massive wins. We also get their thoughts on the rest of the card. Before all that, we look at big wins for Jairzinho and Ponzinibbio, before getting into this week's news!
After a weekend off from the UFC we start with some big fight news, including Holloway v Yair. As well as news of a new fight promotion from Jorge Masvidal, and confirmation of T Wood's next move after leaving the UFC. All culminating in a fantastic card this weekend with Jairzinho up against Sakai in the main event, on a card featuring Tybura, Walt Harris, Ponzinibbo, Baeza, and two British hopefuls in Tom Breese and Mason Jones!
Rob Font stole the show at the weekend putting himself right in the frame for a title shot. Jack Hermansson similarly showed that he isn't going anywhere in the MW division. Plus big wins for Carla Esparza, Ben Rothwell and Bruno Silva. With no UFC card to look forward to this weekend we get into some big fight announcements, retirements, and a bad night at Bellator for the Brits (except Leah McCourt)!
Big Charles is our new LW champ in the UFC! What a 2nd round that was. Dariush also picked up a big win to put himself at number 3 in the rankings! We've got a UFC announced for London with Till headlining, plus Joshu v Fury was all set to go ahead until Deontay Wilder threw a legal spanner in the works. Huge fights again this weekend with Font v Garbrandt and Hermansson v Shabazyan the highlights!
It was a bit of mish-mash in the UFC at the weekend but the card still delivered as always. Rodriguez v Waterson was an absolute blockbuster, Gregor was back on fire, and Morono picked up the biggest win of his career, stopping Cerrone. We break it all down and ask the most important questions. Coming up we've got the big UFC 262 card. Again, some fights have dropped off but it is still a stellar card. The lightweight title post-Khabib will be decided, and big Mike Grundy is back with a massive opportunity against Vanatta!
Jiri Prochazka very much lived up to the hype at the weekend and may have earned a title shot after only 2 fights in the UFC. There was a strong european/eastern european feel to the whole card with Giga Chikadze standing out. In the news we've got Diaz/Edwards & Sandhagen/Dillashaw being rescheduled, with a somewhat cobbled together card at the weekend in the UFC. Waterson & Rodriguez headline!
What an event UFC 261 was! The 3 title fights at the top of the card delivered in a way that none of us expected. We pay tribute to all of them and also send our sympathies to Chris Weidman! Now that is an injury! In the news, Vettori gets his title shot and Brendan Loughnane gets a win in the PFL. Showing no signs of slowing up, the UFC is back this weekend with a superb card, showcasing a lot of European/Eastern European talent!
A stunning performance from Robert Whittaker puts himself firmly at the top of the queue for a title shot. How will he get on against Adesanya the second time round? Plenty of fight announcements with Davey Grant getting a huge opportunity against Chito Vera, and Amanda Nunes having another title defense announced. Then, looking forward to the weekend in the UFC, we look at the stacked UFC 261 card, topped with 3 title fights. Who will come away with the belts?
2 massive wins for British lads in the UFC at the weekend, with Jack Shore continuing to impress, and Arnold Allen taking that definitive step into the top 10 where it's all killers from here on out. In the news we've got a ton of fight announcements including 2 prospects going up against each other in Maycee Barber v Miranda Maverick. Then we have a look at the huge Middleweight fight this weekend between Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum. A title shot surely beckons for the winner of this one.
No UFC card to break down this week which means we get stuck straight into the news, with fight announcements coming out of every orifice and also the news that Ortega and Volkanovski being confirmed as coaches. Given that their fight only recently fell apart due to COVID, is this what the UFC were looking for? Then this weekend, the UFC are back with a bang. We had the devastating news that Darren Till is out of his fight with Marvin Vettori, but Kevin Holland has stepped up and we still have plenty of British interest with Arnold Allen and Jack Shore looking to pick up big victories each
It was a night of mixed emotions at UFC 260 with both Woodley and Miocic suffering defeats. But what a night for Vicente Luque, and particularly Francis Ngannou. The new Heavyweight champion of the world looks quite unstoppable on current form. Who will get the next shot at the title? Then, with no UFC this weekend, we get stuck in to the news and entertainment section with LK! Meisha Tate is back, Paddy Pimblett signs with the UFC, and we lower ourselves to discussing Jake Paul v Ben Askren!
So what do we make of Brunson's performance at the weekend, and also what do we make of Kevin Holland's antics throughout? We also had some crazy finishes with Max Griffin getting a first round win, and Grant Dawson winning with 1 second left in the fight. In the news, we've got Bisping making a move over to BT Sport. But this weekend is the big one with Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou facing off again for the Heavyweight Championship of the world. Fights literally do not get much bigger than this. We break it down and more on this week's episode!
It was a strange weekend of fights with Davey Grant, Dan Ige and Ryan Spann getting cracking stoppage wins, but we had some anti-climactic turnouts in the Darren Stewart and Leon Edwards fights. In the News we've got a title fight announced at Welterweight and news that we may be getting closer to seeing AJ v Fury in the boxing world. For dessert we finish with the UFC card this coming weekend which is filled with good sleeper fights. Brunson v Holland should be mustard and Gregor Gillespie returns!
It was all going off at UFC 259, with Blachowicz cementing himself as the LHW champ, Nunes furthering her case for being the GOAT, and Petr Yan forgetting the rules! We've got plenty in the entertainment section as well with a huge coup for Verdict MMa, and then this week we've got 3 Brits flying the flag. Leon Edwards in a long awaited main event, Darren Stewart looking to make a splash and Davey Grant trying to build on a couple of decent results
Cyril Gane got the win over Jairzinho at the weekend in what wasn't the most exciting of fights. But can anyone blame Cyril? He moves on to bigger and better things after that. We also reflect on 5 years since Bisping beat Silva, and whether or not Paolo Costa was really hungover against Adesanya? Then this weekend its the big PPV, UFC 259 with title fights coming at all angles. We get in to who we think will win and what that could mean for all of those divisions. Plus, there's a little Jan Blachowicz love-in after his singing ability came to light during the week!
The main man Tom Aspinall produced a mustard performance at the weekend to dispatch of the legend Andre Arlovski, but even he was overshadowed by big Derrick Lewis. What an uppercut that was, but where does he go from here with the state of the Heavyweight division at the moment? Speaking of heavyweights, we've got another great fight this weekend with Jairzinho Rozenstruik up against Cyril Gane. There has got to be a finish in this fight somewhere and both men have a great opportunity to put themselves near the top of the division
Kamaru Usman retained his WW belt at the weekend with arguably his best performance to date. Where does he go from here? Should he get that Masvidal rematch or does someone like Leon Edwards or Stephem Thompson deserve the next shot? a couple other highlights from the weekend include Julian Marquez's comeback victory and subsequent callout of Miley Cyrus, and Anthony Hernandez upsetting the odds by submitting Rodolfo Vieira. A slight comedown with the UFC card coming up this weekend, but 1 big standout is British heavyweight Tom Aspinall getting a huge opportunity against Andre Arlovski. With Arlovski being a perennial gatekeeper at heavyweight, there could be massive things on the way for Aspinall with a victory here
After a week off, the lads are back and raring to go. Just in time for the massive UFC 258 card this weekend. Before that though, we look back on outstanding wins for Volkov and Sandhagen at the weekend. What a knee that was! Title shot next? Then its the big one at Welterweight this weekend, with Usman facing up against Burns for the title. We disagree on who we think we will win, and it really is that close to call. Plus, Gastelum is back, looking to overturn a run of 3 straight defeats
The first UFC PPV of the year was a banger, with plenty of upsets. Where does Conor McGregor go next? Poirier has cemented himself as No.1 in the division, who gets to fight him next? Will that be for a title. So many conundrums to consider! Plus, Michael Chandler threw his name into the hat with a huge KO victory over Dan Hooker. We had some big wins for the Brits, with Jojo and Lerone Murphy putting on great performances. So did Mason Jones who showed a lot of promise in a narrow defeat. This weeks card is a little bit odd in terms of who the main/co-main event are, but it should still be a cracker. We've also got Meatball Molly McCann making her return, looking to get back to winning ways.
The UFC started off the year with a bang, with Max Holloway topping it off with a great performance in the main event. But was it the best performance ever? We both have differing views on that one! the warm up acts were pretty good too, with 3 KOs opening up the main card, plus a great little legends fight between Carlos Condit and Matt Brown. This weekend is the big one though with UFC 257 making its way to the Fight Island. A massive main event with the Conor v Poirier rematch, and a whole host of great fights on the card. Lets get stuck in!
The moment has arrived, the UFC is back and we can't wait. We've got some up and coming Brits to look forward to over the next few days, with 2 huge main events in Max Holloway v Calvin Kattar, and Michael Chiesa up against Neil Magny. 1 card on Saturday, 1 card on Wednesday, and they both start at a normal time for UK viewers. It's going to be a great week!
2021 is here and its time to decide who we think will be holding the belts in the UFC at the end of the year. Some of the current champs are looking pretty unbeatable, but we've thrown in a few outsiders who we think could have a huge year. We've got bods moving up and down in weight, and some who are starting the year as retired. Plus, some potentially huge opportunities coming up for a lot of British fighters, hopefully with some fans back to watch it live before 2022!
What a year 2020 has been, and the UFC did not disappoint. To put on the amount of cards they have, and with such quality as well, has been truly outstanding. We take a look back on the best fights of the year, and the best fighters, trying to avoid all of the most obvious ones. Plus, we discuss our personal highlights, and discuss the year that was for British fighters. Some good, some not so good, but plenty to look forward to in 2021
The last UFC event of the year went out with a bang with big Stephen Thompson reminding everyone why he is one of the best in the world. Marcin Tybura picked up a good win against Greg Hardy but arguably the Bantamweights were the standouts. A great victory for Jose Aldo and maybe an even better one for Rob Font. Plus, they both called out the returning TJ Dillashaw, which adds another little ingredient into the mix, in that division
The final UFC PPV of the year and the final UFC card of the year, all in 1 show. UFC 256 was great with so many different fighters trying to steal the show, including Fiziev, Holland, Oliveira and the two flyweights, Figueiredo & Moreno. We've got the potential makings of a fight between Rumble Johnson & Yoel Romero, plus a big card this weekend to close out the year. Loads of good even fights, with an interesting main event.
What a card we had in the UFC at the weekend! Came out of nowhere! One of our favourite cards of the year, topped off with a brillian performance from Marvin Vettori in the main event. We've also got some interesting news this week, with Romero leaving the UFC, and Khabib stating that he wants to get MMA in to the Olympics. Is it an Olympic sport? More so than Breakdancing? This weekend its the big one, UFC 256. A title fight to close the show, Tony Ferguson is back, and a couple of old lads up against some young pretenders
Anthony Smith got back in the win column with a fantastic 1st round submission win, and we love to see it. Plus, Miguel Baeza further cemented himself as one to watch in that WW division going forward, seemingly having all the skills required, We've got a big announcement with Clarissa Shields making a move into the MMA world, and then we've also got a cracking main event in the UFC this weekend, after Covid once again tried its best to disrupt it!
The Flyweight division is on fire at the moment and Deiveson Figueiredo is still at the top of the tree after another impressive performance at the weekend. His next challenger was also decided on the card and they are now looking at a quick turnaround to get Moreno up against D-Fig. Valentina Shevchenko continued her dominance, but where does she go from here? The highlight of the night for us was a great win for big Paul Craig, who now puts himself right into contention for a run towards the top of the Light Heavyweight tree
Big Paul Felder didn't get the win at the weekend, but he did earn a moral victory of sorts. On the other hand, RDA looked outstanding on his return to Lightweight. Someone else who looked outstanding, was Wales' Cory McKenna, who picked up a big win following an exciting fight with the equally talented Kay Hansen. But this weekend we're back to big PPVs. Flyweight is one of our favourite divisions and the quality of fights you see, is largely unrivalled. Figueiredo v Perez for the title this weekend, is one of those. Mike Perry is also fighting. Will Darren Till be in his corner?
The big man, Glover Teixeira won his 5th fight in a row at the ripe old age of 41, at the weekend. But with Izzy pencilled in to face Jan for the LHW title, where does that leave Glover? Does he deserve the title shot instead? Then looking forward to this weekend, the man, the myth, the legend that is Paul Felder, has stepped in to face RDA on a few days notice. What a geezer that man is. We've also got some UK interest with Corey McKenna and Rhys McKee both on the card. Hopefully we come away with 2 big W's!
Another legend retired at the weekend, as Anderson Silva bowed out with a TKO loss to Uriah Hall. We reflect on his retirement, and where Uriah Hall can go from here. This week we've got what looks like a bit of a slow card, but its got a cracking main event with Thiago Santos making his return against the evergreen Glover Teixeira. It will be interesting to see how Santos looks after his loss and big injury over a year ago, against Jon Jones. Plus we've got some interesting news, with Izzy taking on Blachowicz for the LHW title, and an announcement about the next series of TUF!
On Saturday evening UK time Khabib went to work and Gaethje and possible cemented himself as the greatest of all time, after retiring with a perfect 29-0 record. Is he ze GOAT? We've joined in and given our view along with everybody else. Bobby Knuckles delivered another great win on an all round superb card. Leon Edwards has finally got a fight. Has it turned out to be the best possible fight for him, against an unranked, untested, up and coming monster? Plus Anderson Silva is back this weekend and we might see another legend retiring, after he fights Uriah Hall
Brian Ortega came in hot at the weekend with a new barnet and a while new fighting style. A simply outstanding performance has got to have earned himself the next title shot at Volkanovski. But this weekend is the big one, on TV at a proper time for UK fans, with Justin Gaethje trying to dismantle the perfect 28-0 Khabib. Will it be 29-0 for the Dagestani?
A massive win for Sandhagen at the weekend, and what a performance as well. Bouncing back from a defeat, the man looked outstanding against Moraes. All in all it was a good card, with what many are calling the greatest KO of all time. But what constitutes a 'great' KO? Some standout performances from some British gentlemen as well. Plus this week, everybody's favourite, the Korean Zombie, is back. Will he get it done against the returning Brian Ortega? Either way, who isn't looking forward to seeing Ortega's glorious barnet on display once more?
Following a pretty slow card which culminated with Holly Holm picking up a decent win, we've got a bit more of an exciting card to look forward to this week. The main event is top quality with Sandhagen & Moraes trying to put themselves in the title shake-up, Barboza trying to turn it on at Featherweight, and some British interest as well with Tom Aspinall & Tom Breese both looking to put on impressive performances. Plus, Darren Till is up to his usual tricks on social media again!
