"A Mad Tea Party" — Alice in Wonderland (Chapter 7) | Books at BedtimeDrift off to a deep, peaceful sleep with Chapter 7 of Lewis Carroll's timeless classic, Alice in Wonderland. In tonight's episode of Books at Bedtime, we journey into "A Mad Tea Party". Let the nonsensical, rhythmic banter of the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, and the sleepy Dormouse lull your busy mind into a state of calm relaxation. If you are struggling with insomnia, late-night anxiety, or a restless mind, this soft-spoken, comforting narration is designed specifically to help you disconnect from the day and transition smoothly into a night of deep, restorative rest.

Twinkle and Yukee try to stop marching ants from taking seeds from the vegetable gardens.
Is this one of the best or worst method or repertoire books for learning to play acoustic fingerstyle blues guitar? You can learn to play music using a variety of resources including teachers, online resources, and books. Understanding DADGAD for Fingerstyle Guitar is a method book for… learning to play fingerstyle guitar using the wonderous alternate tuning known as DADGAD tuning. This tuning is often associated with Celtic fingerstyle (Pierre Bensusan and Tony McManus), the British folk revival of the 1960s (Davy Graham), and modern fingerstyle (Andy McKee), but it truly excels in any genre. So, if you have some fingerstyle or classical guitar experience and you have an interest in beginning to utilize DADGAD tuning, this book will provide a comprehensive introduction. Be aware, it is appropriate for intermediate to advanced fingerstyle guitarists. Do not try to work through this book if you are just starting out with acoustic fingerstyle guitar – you really need to have the basics down before starting in this book. Understanding DADGAD covers a lot of ground with regards to this alternate tuning, starting out by showing you simple chords, the basics of fretboard navigation, a few easier arrangements, and some accessible ideas for improvisation. The book provides useful insights into how to leverage your knowledge of standard tuning to facilitate your learning of DADGAD – your 3rd, 4th and 5th strings are tuned the same as in standard tuning, while your 1st, 2nd, and 6th strings are tuned exactly one whole step down. The book also does a great job introducing you to many of DADGAD's unique characteristics – the tuning is especially well-suited to the harp-like cross-string technique, the use of drones, and the use of octaves paired with hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides. Where the book falls a little flat is that it doesn't effectively show you how to arrange a tune in DADGAD tuning. Upon completion of the book, you may have a few cool DADGAD tunes that you can play, but you may not know how to apply your newly acquired familiarity with the tuning to other music. Personally, I am always arranging tunes for fingerstyle guitar, and while some tunes work great in standard tuning or drop-D, others seem to shine in DADGAD. I recently arranged the Guns ‘N Roses hit, “Sweet Child of Mine,” to beef up my set-list for bars and breweries, and I started out arranging the tune in standard tuning. It wasn't sitting right in the original key, so I transposed it a couple times, but still didn't like the results. Finally, I arranged it in DADGAD and voila, the result was lush, musically satisfying, and playable/performable. Here's a sample of that arrangement. My recommendation is that all fingerstyle players learn to arrange tunes in standard tuning, drop-D, and DADGAD. While Understanding DADGAD doesn't cover this topic, it does give you lots of tools (intervals, cross-string technique, etc.) to use in any future DADGAD arranging. In my eBook, Arranging for Fingerstyle Guitar, I show you how to arrange Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star in multiple keys in standard and alternate tunings (including DADGAD). You can also check out my video/podcast series: Arranging Melodies for Fingerstyle Guitar, in which I show you how to arrange examples from the Essential Elements Guitar Method. I'll put a link to these videos in the corner and in the show description. A nice supplement to Understanding DADGAD would be another book from our author: A DADGAD Christmas, again, also by Doug Young. This other book contains great DADGAD arrangements of Christmas carols that you can both play and analyze to gain arranging insights. Understanding DADGAD provides both treble clef and tablature for each arrangement. Unfortunately, no fingerings are provided in the music. For each example, I notated my own fingering in the music, after which I was able to play much more smoothly, accurately, and confidently. The skill of choosing sensible fingering is important, and you will need to look elsewhere to further develop this skill. Recordings are available online through Mel Bay's website. These will be very helpful to many readers. © 2008 by Mel Bay My own books: Arranging for Fingerstyle Guitar: go to http://joemcmurray.com/checkout/ to purchase a pdf of my eBook. Learning to arrange melodies will also help your fingerstyle songwriting and your understanding of the inner workings of fingerstyle guitar. Fingerstyle Blues Guitar: An In-Depth Study of the 12-Bar Blues in E Major – Books 1 and 2 are available in paperback or as an eBook through Amazon [https://a.co/d/g7Udsso (Book 1) and https://a.co/d/aDbh4H0 (Book 2)]. The first priority of these books is to quickly get you playing a solo instrumental 12-bar blues, and then to build on it until you can freely improvise or “jam.” You should be up and running by the end of the third chapter, and each following chapter will add icing on the cake. There is an focus on using a monotonic bass to maximize melodic freedom, and there is an emphasis on creating lyrical melodies using actual lyrics. My upcoming book, Arranging for Fingerstyle Ukulele, will be published by Mel Bay in 2026. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. We are about to begin our next study, and we are moving into the Old Testament. We will begin with the book of Hosea. Hosea confronts comfortable religion and exposes what spiritual betrayal really looks like. This means it is time to get your next Scripture Journal from our website for this study. If you are a Project23 partner giving $35/month or more, we have already sent this to you in the mail. Our shout-out today goes to Kevin Hayes from Alva, FL. Thanks for your partnership in Project23. Our text today is 1 Corinthians 15:50-53. I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.— 1 Corinthians 15:50-53 Paul, still speaking about the critical nature of the resurrection, now narrows his focus to one unavoidable reality. "Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God." This present body—weak, aging, perishable—cannot enter eternity as it is. What decomposes and decays cannot inherit eternity. But we are not discarded. There is something about us that will be changed. It's mysterious, but at the time of death, time will pass quickly, and we will be transformed. A twinkle then a trumpet. The mortal puts on immortality. Notice. Not replaced. Not erased. But clothed. This is covenant continuity fulfilled in glory. This means the mortality you feel is not permanent—it is preparatory. The resurrection of Jesus was not the abandonment of creation. It is the consummation of believers. The God who created all matter will redeem all matter. And he will do it suddenly, decisively, completely. Death and taxes are not the only guarantees of this life. According to God's Word, it's death, taxes, and the resurrection from this body into new bodies and a new kingdom. DO THIS: When you feel the limits of your body this week—fatigue, pain, weakness—remember: a twinkle, a trumpet, a new body. Let present weakness train your hope for promised transformation. ASK THIS: Do I treat my physical decline as final—or temporary? If I truly believed transformation is guaranteed, what fear would loosen its grip on me? Am I living as someone preparing for glory—or clinging to what is fading? PRAY THIS: Lord, thank you that this perishable body will be clothed with immortality. Anchor my hope in the coming transformation and steady my heart as I wait for that trumpet sound. Amen. PLAY THIS: "In Christ Alone"

Christmas welcomes the coming of Jesus Christ into the world at his birth in Bethlehem. This Christmas season reminds us of Jesus as the Light of the World and how we are called to bring Jesus to others. This blogcast explores “Beyond a Twinkle" from the Ad Infinitum blog, written by Don McCrabb, D. Min. and read by Meghan Abando. There is just something about Advent with its joyful anticipation of Christmas, the rush of preparation - decorating, gifting, and writing Christmas cards - and holy waiting. We ponder, like Mary, the birthing of the Messiah in history, in our lives, and our future. We can see the Christmas spirit in “the twinkle of an eye,” a person fully alive with the joyful anticipation of Christmas. When my family would gather for the holidays, there would be a lot of storytelling among the adults. Mom would say to me, from time to time, “this happened before you were even a twinkle in your father's eye.” At the time, I was not sure what she meant, but I knew that twinkle - in my Dad's eye over a job well done, carving the Christmas turkey, or preparing to host a party. I also noticed it in the Santa's I saw, Fr. Jim preparing for Mass, or Sister Prudence teaching us our catechism. It was a sign that a person was fully alive, joyful, and expectant. The Church celebrates the Feast of Saint John the Apostle on December 27th, just two days after Christmas. Saint John, and his older brother Saint James, are the sons of Zebedee, a fisherman. He was one of the youngest of the apostles and he was the last apostle to die. Tradition credits him with the fourth Gospel, three epistles, and the Book of Revelation. I must confess, I have struggled with reading the Gospel of Saint John. At times, it is mysterious, tender, and baffling. Yet, it has always been a grace - deepening my faith and expanding my heart. As we celebrate Christmas - and we must remember it is a season that begins on Christmas Day and ends with the Baptism of the Lord (January 12th) - I want to take the time to pray and ponder the Prologue to the Gospel of John. It is just 18 verses but it is saturated with meaning that elevates the Birth of Jesus beyond the horizon of our awareness, even beyond the boundaries of our imagination. The story of Jesus born of Mary in a stable is found in the Gospel of Luke. Saint Matthew's account stresses Saint Joseph, his dreams, the three “kings,” and the flight into Egypt. Saint Mark, like Saint John, begins with John the Baptist. Saint John, however, weaves a beautiful poem about who Jesus really is to introduce the testimony of the Baptist. Jesus is the Word of God and, from the very beginning, he was both with God and was God and through him “all things came to be.” Every thing, every one of us, was created by God through Jesus, the Word of God. (John 1: 1-3) Jesus is the light “of the human race,” enlightenment is found in him, and we who accept Jesus, believe in his name, are now children of God. (John 1: 4-5) In Jesus, the Word of God became flesh, dwells among us. In him and through him we see the face of God. (John 1:14-18) When Saint John ends his Gospel, he proclaims both the truth of what he has written, but also its limitation since, “there are also many other things that Jesus did … I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.” (John 21:25). Hopefully, we will receive many wonderful and meaningful gifts this Christmas. The discipline of Christmas is to receive the gift. To recognize the gift given, the giver, and the completeness of the gift. In so many ways, I am still unwrapping the gift of my smartphone years after my wife, Barbara, gave it to me. As I unwrap the prologue to the Gospel of Saint John, I am struck by three amazing truths. First, all of us were created through the Word of God. Jesus himself participated in our creation. Our being begins in him and flows through him. Second, if we accept the gift of Jesus, and unwrap all of the gift, as we are able, we are no longer creatures. We are now children of God. Third, we have a light, a twinkle if you will, shining within us, “and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5) The Gospel of John is a gift given to us through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is a gift that takes time to unwrap. It is so much better than Christmas cookies because its goodness, its sweetness, does not go away. Indeed, the more we feast on its truth and beauty, the more enriched we are. We leave both satisfied and hungry for more. Author:Don McCrabb, D. That Show Hasn't Been Funny In Years: an SNL podcast on Radio Misfits
Nick digs into one of the most reliably funny corners of Saturday Night Live with a look at ESPN commentators Pete Twinkle and Greg Stink, the brilliantly odd duo played by Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte. Their mock coverage of women's sporting events from the 80s and 90s gave the show some of its sharpest absurdity, especially once the two started weaving in wildly inappropriate sponsor plugs for every imaginable personal product. The sketches came from the minds of Forte, John Lutz, and John Solomon, and Nick revisits several of them with guest appearances from Sigourney Weaver, Blake Lively, Will Ferrell, and a delightfully unhinged Tom Hanks. Along with the full scenes, he shares some behind the curtain stories that shed light on how these characters took shape and why they remain fan favorites. Pete Twinkle and Greg Stink get the celebration they deserve, and the laughs still land perfectly. [Ep 154]

Look, we just think it's narratively satisfying. We discuss how everyone interprets things differently at the table (it might not be what Harry said, but it's definitely what we heard). He doesn't want to say we're wrong, but…Today Harry gave us two things, and after that we sort of did whatever we wanted. We talk about how Harry plays with fast travel, what we did and didn't do, and how we choose to interact with the world around us.We chat about Dolly and how she sets the tone for the group, how Harry would always choose to save the penguins, and the difference between help and hope. The Newly Dead are, for now at least, no longer the enemy, and we get a peek behind the screen at who we could have met (hello, Twinkle), the changes to Lesser Restoration (and how that might have completely changed our plans), and how our group seems determined to hold themselves to some very weird standards. HELLOOOO & welcome back to another episode of MOMENT OF SILENCE
Amin. (Dod).

There are lots of reasons people choose to have children, and many of them are bad reasons. The reason someone brings a child into the world sets the stage for the rest of the relationship, which is one of the reasons why there are so many strained parent-child relationships!
