Welcome Friends and Weary Travelers to the Sterner Stuff Brand Variety Show of Society and Culture Podcasting. Tonight, we travel straight into the heart of a dystopian nightmare, a bad dream we're all experiencing, which I believe will surely lead to the end of the human race as we know it, but it is now our job to decide whether all this is a good thing or a bad thing when one raises their perspective view beyond their personal existence and considers evolutionary leaps of consciousness and the sacrifices entailed by that. Join the Truth Seeker and others as we examine the Internet of a Disconnected World. Welcome Friends and Weary Travelers to the Sterner Stuff Brand Variety Show of Society and Culture Podcasting. Tonight, we offer a deep and sometimes depressing, sometimes dramatic, sometimes heart wrenching, sometimes rage inducing, but ultimately lovingly emotional look at the spectrum that exists between the extremes of Love and Tragedy. We examine an ode to a wife from a hopefully delusional man trying to cling to a lost marriage, followed up by a painful reality fed to a vicious gobbling truth hound. We will go through the process of forgiving one's self enough to accept one's flowers without forgetting all the flowers one has stomped on in the past. A one act radio play brings us along for the ride between a father and daughter stuck in an ever repeating play on the floating stage that is the whirlpool of the past. Some demo songs of lament and sad hope, as well as a helping of unbridled poetry round out the program. Join the Truth Seeker on a trip through Love and Tragedy. Segment 1:I'd Rather Have You (Unbridled Poetry w. music) Segment 2:The Hungry Dog's Supper (Unbridled Poetry w. music) Segment 3: Discussion of Love and Tragedy (Philosophical Reflection)Segment 4: Lament (Demo Song)Segment 5: Daninroze (One Act Radio Play) featuring Jeilyn PatienceSegment 6: My Wild Irish Rose (Demo Song)Segment 7: Reflection on Mothers (Philosophical Discussion)Segment 8: All in My Weeks and Minutes and Days (Demo Song)Segment 9: When I Wish Upon the Scars (Unbridled Poetry w. music) Special thanks to Jeilyn Patience, Abby Sterner, and Keilyn Tejeda Reyes. Please enjoy our variety show and email any thoughts, ideas, and feedback to sternerstuffbrand@gmail.com*All music is either original, licensed, or public domain. Today I bring you a very special edition of Sterner Stuff Brand Podcast. This is a show called "Transition: Things are Changing Again," and instead of me trying to explain more than that, please have a listen and decide if you may be interested to see what lies on the other side.
Welcome Friends. Today we discuss the epidemic of mass killings in our country and the seemingly bottomless pit some of us have landed in when "discussing" it; basically taking a side and pushing one impossible situation vs. another. This episode is not about banning guns and it's not about no infringement on gun rights. It's about people, hopelessness, rage, and the REAL solution that has very little to do with assault weapons or the NRA and very little to do with upping people's medication. We have to attack this beast in the heart, where the blood is pumping from. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality. Send any thoughts or feedback to us as sternerstuffbrand@gmail.com
Welcome Friends. Today we deliver the fourth installment in the "Seeking with Skylar" Series as Skylar Luckenbill and the Truth Seeker discuss meditation, depression, and the state of the American Dream. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality. Contact us at sternerstuffbrand@gmail.com with thoughts and feedback.
Welcome Friends. Abby took exception to Greg's "asshat" short sighted view on the concept of Cultural Appropriation which motivated him to look deeper into it; enough so that he came away with a wider understanding and respect for the merits of the concept, even as he continued to take the same level of exception when it came to certain extreme individuals and their attempts to use the concept for nefarious purposes. We talk about this concept as it relates to music, fashion, movies, and more. We hammer down what we feel are bad actors appropriating or controlling culture that was essentially stolen or manipulated and we determine where we don't feel something is appropriation and is, in fact, simply admiration or influence. This episode goes all over the place and we know you will enjoy it. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Skylar Luckenbill returns for Seeking with Skylar Part 3 as we discuss aging, ego, the merging of man and machine, and much much more. Tune in now for a conversation unlike many others you will hear anywhere.
Welcome Friends. Abracadabragail returns in the co-host chair as we discuss filters on social media run amok. What is this doing to the self esteem portion of our identity? We switch gears and talk about Daily Wire calls for eradication and Dilbert's creator making racist comments, leading to a sideline discussion of grifters in the media and we explore the quest for the status and success portion of our identity and what behavior it can drive. In the final segment we run the gamut from cultural appropriation, and whether racial dysphoria is something that should be considered, to the adoption of ailments or anomalies to justify one's failure; basically an examination of the justification side of our identity. So many different portions of identity...this week's show is like an identity crisis. I guess we should call it that. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality. Email us at sternerstuffbrand@gmail.com with any feedback or thoughts you'd like us to share.
Welcome Friends. Abby is not on an anti-podcast trip but she is on an antibiotic trip since she's been hit hard by yet another round of sickness as the plague cloud still hovers. However, we will still offer some thought provoking goodness this week. Today's show is made up of three unique individual segments, two of which are new entries into our "High Thoughts For Low Times" series and one which is from what Abby and I consider our "prototype" episode of the show. First, I talk about the time when I got all up in my feelings about Abby not loving what I considered an epic philosophical discussion and I tried to make heads or tails of the importance of pragmatic and philosophical points of view. Then we revisit a segment from our first solo recording (back when we were on the TEET show) in which Abby and I discuss the effects of human projection out there in society. We end today's presentation with another "High Thoughts" reflection, this time on whether the American Dream is still worth it or not. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality. We welcome thoughts, suggestions, and feedback to sternerstuffbrand@gmail.com
Welcome Friends, to a very special edition of the Sterner Stuff Brand Podcast. The Truth Seeker went back to his roots and met up for a Saturday evening meal with his parents Bill and Allison as well as his Uncle Paul and Aunt Jackie to discuss the nearly 3 decade story of the The Family Band. Bill and Paul grew up around music, with a father who was a banjo player, two older brothers who played accordion, and coming of age right after the explosion of rock and roll. They were inspired to set out on their own to make their mark and created a group called New Wind, a band which stood the test of time and lasted nearly 30 years as a regularly booked act from Pipersville to Phoenixville, from Reading to Doylestown, from the Dutch Cottage to Micky's Mouse; New Wind performed many gigs and had many interesting experiences. From riots involving a brawling Elvis impersonator to being escorted out of a wedding when the raucous crowd decided they wanted to beat up the band, there is no shortage of intriguing tales to be told. In between, we discuss a little family history, romance, and thoughts about music. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality...and please enjoy this very special show.We welcome feedback and thoughts at sternerstuffbrand@gmail.com
Welcome Friends. Join us on this "topical" storm trip. We're talking about the National Anthem getting intercepted? We're discussing race relations and what are and are potentially not the right moves to make. Then from there we drift into the question of death and what we should be telling our kids about it. Where is the line of trauma and where is the line of manipulation when it comes to discussing death with your child? And to ride us out on the lightning bolt as we experience our topical storm, we think about people who are truly on the edge. How did they get there and what is it like being there? What might a person on the edge do? Serious topics. Hang out with us friends. As we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. The Truth Seeker and Abracadabragail have finally returned from the pits of despair, otherwise known as the plague that chose and now will not let us go. But we've come back today to discuss modern media, greed, and frustration with humans in general as Greg unloads his mental pressure brought on by the arrival of the deep dark clouds. With that nasty business out of the way, we discuss our experience at a five star French Restaurant and go into the kind of detail that will leave your mouth watering. We also make a solid movie recommendation for a film we hope to do a deeper study of down the road. Lastly, Abby brings up her thoughts on the evolution of owner mentality in our society. We have an intriguing conversation around that, all while raising a buttered bagel to the edge of sanity. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Refillable Goods is a Latina-owned small business co-founded by long-time best friends, Paola Cevallos and Jaylene Torres. They are committed to providing Berks County residents access to ethically made personal care and cleaning products from brands that use toxin-free ingredients and sustainable packaging. Bring your own bottle or purchase one of their reusable containers to refill shampoo, soap, and even laundry detergent. Today they speak to Abracadabragail and the Truth Seeker about taking the leap into starting their own business, braving the risks, wrestling with the doubt, and basking in every successful step forward. A very important show for anyone considering starting their own business. These impressive women, along with our own impressive Abby, have a perspective that will really get you thinking. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality. Contact us with listener feedback at sternerstuffbrand@gmail.comVisit www.refillablegoods.com and take part in a sustainable effort!
Welcome Friends. Today Abracadabragail and the Truth Seeker return after a holiday hiatus and coming down with the plague. We brave the risky waters of recording with the children still awake and manage to tell some parenthood horror stories until Charmageddon himself interrupts. We discuss whether America can ever unite against a common enemy once again, which sparks some alarmist stream of consciousness ranting. We read through some listener feedback and then in our main segment we discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of friendship. We talk bullies, drama queens, codependency, hideous hen circles, and finally some rules we believe define what real friendship should always be about. This turns into, in our humble opinions, a very interesting conversation. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today we sit down with one of the OG listeners and friends, Amy Gehris. We talk about the weight of life that keeps people in place, anchored to the ground or unable to move forward and upward because of the stress/sadness/doubt/anxiety/fear induced headspace that rules us, often in the wrong direction. Amy has allowed herself to be very vulnerable and brutally honest about where she is now, the good and bad, and the struggle she's had to ever really believe in her own self worth. This is an eye opening, emotional, and thought provoking discussion about the battle we human beings face either lifting or being squashed under that heavy weight of life. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today is a very special edition of the show. For a portion of the show, Sterner Stuff Brand and The Existential Ginger are the EXACT SAME show. Then we drift into exclusive Sterner Stuff Brand content all about Charisse Morrell (the Existential Ginger herself) and the Zen and centered Manfriend Kyle as they discuss the struggles of maintaining balance and understanding in their relationship, as well as what personal identity now and in the future looks like for them. We talk extreme cancel culture in Hollywood and extremes on both sides of the political aisle before we get personal with Charisse and Kyle. If you like this show, please take some time and pull up The Existential Ginger (available everywhere you get your podcasts) so you can hear the exclusive Existential Ginger content in which Abracadabragail and the Truth Seeker are grilled on morality in various forms, and we all go deep on the subject together. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today we take a long hard look at Matt Walsh's film, "What is a Woman," and examine all of this controversy around questions related to trans-gender rights, gender identity, a war of claims among women, misogynistic ideas, personal aversion on a base level to things that deserve respect, assholes that co-opt good movements for bad purposes, and our own take on exactly what it means to be a woman and the parts of this whole debate that should be considered while the rest gets tossed in the hot air machine. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.Â
Welcome Friends. Today we have an ambassador of ambitiousness joining us for a discussion about goals, passion, challenges, and what it really takes to keep good fuel in the fuel tank to drive one forward toward what they want in life. Heather Baum, a remarkable woman who has shared her thoughts previously on our show, has joined Abracadabragail and the Truth Seeker to talk about her incredible pursuits, her apparent super power to put more hours in a day than a day actually has, and her belief that engaging in passions, even a schedule chock full of passions in amongst responsibilities, can actually provide energy and fuel to move forward, whereas ignoring passions can drain all the drive right out of a person. We also discuss Heather's experience losing 150 pounds following weight loss surgery and the struggles she still has to wrestle with to stay where she's at. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends, today Abracadabragail goes on assignment and interviews an intriguing and interesting woman named Kirsten Soldridge who educates us in traditional and non-traditional ways about the concept of "Un-Schooling." Kirsten is a free thinker and some might say non-conformist, which is why we like her! She explains how unschooling works and addresses most of the major questions potential detractors of this type of approach might broach. Abby and Kirsten also talk about several different facets of life, family, and society, and this is an in-depth conversation that is enjoyable from first word until last. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality.Â
Welcome Friends. Today we discuss the struggle in this country between voter apathy and voter enthusiasm. We talk about the dystopian vision that has sucked the feeling of having a voice or any level of control out of millions of Americans while the fear of that same vision has convinced many others it is the most important thing we can do. We rant about the Bannon agenda at the top of so much of what is at stake in these days and we bookend the discussion with "female" becoming a dirty word co-opted by misogynists and the compelled speech aspects of the pledge of allegiance. We go full on politics for this one but we try to stay somewhere in the middle as we discuss it. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.Â
Welcome Friends. Today we take a long and curving road from nostalgia to escapism and realize, in the end, they are one and the same. Both are good. Both are bad. We discuss how and why. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today we discuss a record week of business, listener thoughts, and a lot more before transitioning into the "Media on our Minds," which sees us interpreting Alan Moore's fears of superhero fascination in adults being a breeding ground for the acceptance of fascism; as well as a healthy bash of the Flash in the form of beating up on budding psychopath Ezra Miller and Hollywood's double standards for cancellation of certain people. We end with a full segment on asking for help from others. Why is this so hard for human beings and what role does pride, ego, humility, and society play in it all? Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today we dig into exactly how we define introverts and extroverts, what we consider ourselves, and where anti-social people and exhibitionists fit into the whole discussion. We talk about how people's natural dispositions may have gotten more pronounced during the worldwide pandemic, and we even question if extroverts are really even a thing and if the whole question might be about degrees of introversion. We spend our third segment exploring procrastination and whether it is born from ADHD, lack of discipline, fear of engagement, laziness, or just poor habits. We run the gauntlet on this subject and go deep and personal at times. We sprinkle in jokes of the day, Kanye West, and Char-mageddon throughout the show. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.Â
Welcome Friends. Today we discuss all aspects of commitment and why people of all backgrounds, ages, and personalities seem to fear it so much. We talk about fearing commitment because of what we might miss out on if we had committed to something else. We talk about fearing commitment because of the intense fear of failure that may result from throwing ourselves completely into a pursuit. We explore the giant commitment of having children and why some may wisely avoid this particular commitment even though they may be depriving themselves of a crucial primordial part of the human experience. We COMMIT to examining commitment fully. Today's show ends with a mini version of "High Thoughts for Low Times" in which travelling at the speed of thought is imagined. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.Â
Welcome Friends. Today we go deep with Meghan Cocuzza. Meghan talks all about Art, Astrology, Pagan religious beliefs, the balancing act between being an introvert and extrovert, and the persistent call of people pleasing. Meg is one of the more interesting people you're bound to meet and we're confident this is a discussion that will make you think and make you want to hear more. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today we literally rant about the scam being perpetrated on the American People that all comes down to Institutions of Higher Learning morphing into Institutions of Higher Profit. We discuss how the country got in the shape it's in where young people are being forced into smothering debt because they're trying to get a degree which will help them succeed but due to corporate rigging of the entire system and a debt based economy that passes itself off as an American Dream, they really have less and less future prospects with every year that goes by. While all this happens, the bulk of the public turns on each other in useless debate as the corporate cash machine keeps chugging along making money off our backs. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today we discuss what it means to live a purpose driven life. How many of us are living one? How do we even know what our purpose is let alone set about succeeding at it? We discuss selfishness, fear, impostor syndrome, serving others while serving ourselves, and a lot more. We also drop a little receipt on our TEET friends for some grievous misquoting, discuss some recent content, and end with imagining what the world might look like if more people lived for purpose rather than just living. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.Â
Welcome Friends. Today we are pleased to welcome Jordan Bingaman, a filmmaker, rapper, painter, and all around artistic cat who shares his experience of trying to balance artistic pursuits in the face of corporate responsibilities and a beautiful family that requires his presence and support. Jordan has some great stories and we go to some very interesting places in this conversation (including discussion of Jordan's alter-ego in his former life as a backyard wrestler, The Hardcore Kid). Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.Â
Welcome Friends. Today we have a sprawling discussion around looking for love in all the right places but going about it in all the wrong ways. We look deep into the reasons for being stuck on the Ferris wheel of failed relationships as well as an endless cycle of want. We examine self-sabotage and all the reasons people fall victim to it. We offer personal experiences and observations on people we've known and try to get to the bottom of being addicted to love and being wired to never receive it. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today we present Abracadabragail's Random Thoughts and have a very passionate discussion of how "decent" churchgoin' folk relate to "righteous" blowhard liberals. From there we present part two of a discussion of deepest reality with Skylar Luckenbill, a dynamic young philosopher and a good friend. WARNING: This conversation goes to CRAZY places! Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.Â
Welcome Friends. Today we present Abracadabragail's TOP PICKS for HORROR FLIX as well as her reaction to the latest "high thoughts" presentation. From there we present part one of a discussion of deepest reality with Skylar Luckenbill, a dynamic young philosopher and a good friend. WARNING: This conversation goes to CRAZY places! Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.Â
Welcome Friends. It's the work stories from hell edition of Sterner Stuff. We discuss brawls by the hot oil fryers, back breaking leg fidgets, jealous trolls and crazy people, capped off with tales of ultimate mortifying embarrassment. After we're done sharing work woes and job jovialities, we offer "High Thoughts for Low Times" about Evolution, Collective Learning, and Creation. Hang out with us Friends as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today's show is all about the Media on our Minds! Alex Jones whines to the heavens for forgiveness from the orange overlord. Kids are going back to school but what have we not even considered about their mental health? Quiet Quitting is trending on Tik Tok and we examine what it means and whether we have experienced it ourselves. We round things out with a continuation of Abby's Chrystul Kizer coverage and whether she was justified in making a bonfire out of her abuser and pimp. This and much more as we hang out and discuss our reality.Â
Welcome Friends. We're here today to discuss good and evil in the world, in ourselves, and the ways in which we many times deny what is right in front of us. This talk ranges from Nazi Germany to unrequited love. We explore honesty and it's relation to anxiety and we take ourselves to task for the times we've drifted into the dark side and what we found there. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today we discuss the ways people attempt to fill the figurative holes in our psyche and our emotions and the battles that can be fought, won, and lost in that arena. Our old friend Amy Prince joins us for an interview in which she shares her personal tale and you will not want to miss this! We round things out with a discussion ranging from food addiction and body image issues to alcoholism and the fear of losing the pleasure pill. Hang out with us friends as we discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today we offer part 2 of our discussion around Masculinity. We round out the toxic end of things but then focus on why masculine traits are an important aspect of balance in relationships and society and we once again go deep on many levels. The second half of the show is a Sterner Cinematic Study of the film "MEN," a wildly weird and whimsical acid trip of a horror movie which may or may not have shit the bed in final execution. Listen and find out friends as we hang out and discuss our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today on our road to part 1 of our MAN sized discussion of Masculinity, we discuss keeping our heads above water when the deep darkies try to drown us in the depths. We have a random thoughts segment in which Abby goes off on bigotry disguised as righteousness. It all leads to a rather sprawling and sometimes tense discussion of Masculinity, the line in which it becomes toxic, the way it can hurt both men and women, and we wrestle with emotions at it relates to both of the sexes. Too much here for only a 1 part discussion so be sure to join us next episode as we round things out with part 2. For now...sit back and relax with us friends as we examine our reality.
Welcome Friends. Today we talk about celebrity culture in general and how it relates to our larger conversation all around the ego. Can ego be the best thing for us? When does it go bad? How do we define arrogance and delusion as it relates to the ego? And of course, why does Will Smith think he can do whatever the hell he wants? We go real deep on ego and we hope this show will run real deep with entertainment value and thought provoking peculiarities. Hang out with us as we discuss our reality.
Sometimes really interesting roads need to be travelled twice to be truly experienced and understood. We continue today with another tense (at times) discussion about the potential prostitution of dignity on platforms like Tik Tok, the potential de-valuing a person can cause themselves in their own minds and the minds of others via their actions, and the reasons that drive behavior in the realm of sex work, porn, etc. and the judgment others may pass on the participants in said realm. We also look further at the flip side of that judgement and identify the hypocrisy that may be at work. We believe we may have actually gotten somewhere in this discussion and we hope you're there too. Tune in friends as we hang out and discuss our reality.
Today we have a somewhat tense discussion about the potential prostitution of dignity on platforms like Tik Tok, the potential de-valuing a person can cause themselves in their own minds and the minds of others via their actions, and the reasons that drive behavior in the realm of sex work, porn, etc. and the judgment others may pass on the participants in said realm. We also look at the flip side of that judgement and identify the hypocrisy that may be at work. To round things out, it's the second edition of "high thoughts for low times" and the subject today is the connection between the weight of life and people getting indoctrinated into cults. Tune in friends as we hang out and discuss our reality.
Today on the Sterner Stuff Brand Podcast, we go DEEP on CHANGE! How can something that seems intrinsically part of our human nature and the process of life also be something that almost every human being is scared of on some level? What are the reasons for this fear, how can we better understand and overcome the fear, and what does change have to do with life itself? We also feature Abracadabragail's reaction to last episode's "high thoughts for low times," focusing on the current state of a capitalist system run amok and what options are left on the table for us to do anything about it. Tune in friends as we hang out and discuss our reality.
On today's show, we discuss the world post Roe v. Wade being overturned and what effect this has had on the psyche of the nation and in the hearts and minds of people. We also offer the debut edition of our "high thoughts for low times" segment and go very deep into the homeless epidemic in America and explore the idea of never letting anyone fall off the American ship. Tune in friends and hang with us as we explore our reality.*Oppression-Birdcage Reference: Marilyn Frye
Welcome to the debut edition of the Sterner Stuff Brand Podcast. Today we delve into the connections between religion and patriotism and what those connections may have to do with how individuals envision their own identity and the crucial importance that connection to a person's identity can have on the way that person views the rest of the world. We also start the episode off with our first Sterner Cinematic Study...an in depth analysis of the film THE BLACK PHONE. Tune in friends as we hang out and discuss our reality.
