Let's talk about body image, beauty standards and unhealthy exercise routines. While trying to put my thoughts together, and research for this episode, I came across some interesting facts and history that I'll like to share with you. I'm sure you've heard of the phrase: dress the way you want to be addressed. Various scholarly studies and surveys have proven that our appearance does in fact have a direct correlation with how well we are received by others, in both social and professional settings. However, does our appearance only include our dress sense, and fashion or does it also have to do with our bodies? Historically, bodies closer in appearance to ideal bodies gave some women power. Women used fashion to mold their bodies into society's idea of a perfect body. Pretty privilege, body standards, plastic surgeries, body image and exercises are the some of the topics covered in this episode. _________ Seat back, grab a popcorn or anything you like, and let's dive right in. What do you constantly speak of, or complain about? That could give you an insight into what you truly care about or what your insecurities are. For the longest time, I said: I have big stomach, look at my big stomach. I drew people's attention to it, whether they cared to listen or not. Most often people don't notice the things we're insecure about but we do. When I changed my self talk and the other tips I share in today's episode, it didn't change my reality - the size/shape of my stomach. What it did change was the way I saw my stomach. I've realised from my experience that it's not our bodies that's the problem but the way we think of our bodies. The way we think of our bodies reflects in what we see when we look at ourselves. The mirror reflects what you think or feel back to you. ___________ Have any feedback, comment or suggestions for me?

I came across this interview titled " 7 Keys to being present in your life with Chris Lee" I was curious so I tapped on the download button with the intention of listening to it later. It is important to note that these 7 keys to being present that I'm about to share with you guys is not mine and I'm not taking credit for it. After listening to the interview which I did over and over again, I felt this strong urge to share it. I had my parents listen to it as well as my siblings and now I'll share the highlights with you guys. Not being present can make us miss out on life. All we have is this moment and there is no guarantee for tomorrow. We live in fear of the moment because we're thinking of the past or we're afraid of what's coming in the future. We miss out on this moment because we don't realize that happiness is NOW! - Chris Lee. _____________ What did you learn from this episode?

Change comes with resistance. In this episode, I discuss the steps I've taken and still taking to think before I do. I forgot to add, that thinking before an action doesn't guarantee that there wouldn't be bad decisions or that we wouldn't have regrets about an action or decision. Thinking is however, a way to make 'better' decisions not 'perfect' decisions. I hope you found this helpful and are able to implement it in your life. In celebration of World Happiness Day, here's an episode on how to guard our joy from being stolen by comparison.
I have always been aware of my flaws because I had constant reminders of them from 'people'. I had lots of wishes which included being able to afford a therapist but I needed to take the bull by the horn, stop wishing my situation was different and look for little ways I could start making a change and taking steps towards becoming my best self. I know you're waiting for the perfect time but the perfect time doesn't exist. Use the resources you have access to - blogs, podcasts, YouTube videos, google, self help books and find actionable steps no matter how little that you can start implementing today to get you closer to becoming your best self. __________________________ This Week's Verse: Q 26:217 - And put your trust in the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. _____________________ Did you find this episode valuable? Episode 10! Yay!!! This Week's Action Plan: 1. Define what self love means to you. Pro tip: Consider your needs, what's important to you, lifestyle, wellbeing and happiness. 2. Decide on one way you'll practice self love this week and then Do It! You are your greatest asset, take care of yourself, and give yourself love. You deserve the love you give others from yourself and you're very capable of receiving love. In this episode, ➡️I share the meaning of self love that resonates with me the most ➡️ How to practice self love ➡️ Some inspiration to get you started This week's verse: And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright. There are several body shapes and sizes and yours is perfect for you the way it is. You are the greatest project you'll ever work on. What matters most is how you see yourself. In this episode, I share: ↪️ Part of my body shaming story, ↪️ Tips to help you begin your body love journey, ↪️ How to change how you feel about your body and ↪️ Hopefully, some new insights/perspectives on beauty and the perfect body. I had struggled with loving my body and myself for nearly a decade and this story is about how I began to accept myself as "beautiful", not the entire story of how I developed love for every part of my body and myself. I'll sprinkle my story in other episodes
