This week on COGS we throw it back to 30 years ago in April 1995. Bruce & Nolan breakdown two of DMB's finest shows with the rare all-acoustic show at The Academy in New York on 4/5/95, days after the band's first trip to Europe. DMB then kicked off their spring tour in Durham, NC on 4/7/95 in fabled Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke. The two shows are known for the song debuts of #40 and #41, known as 41 Police at the time. There aren't too many artists that give off such infectious energy and joy on and off the stage that you can't help but smile. Add to that an artist that plays the bass and sings and sometimes even dives into pools to close a set. Karina Rykman is that one of a kind artist, and she was gracious enough to spend some time with us to reflect on her career as a whole, creating her debut album with Trey Anastasio, and of course opening the most recent Dave & Tim weekend down in Mexico. This was one of our favorite pods to date as Karina is just such a blast to talk to and listen to. This is truly a can't miss episode and we hope you all enjoy. Cheers! The exceptionally talented guitarist, songwriter, and producer, Cory Wong, sat down with us for a fun and enlightening episode of "Convos on the Corner". Many of you may know him from his sit-in with DMB at Madison Square Garden last fall, but there is so much more to learn about Cory and how he got to where he is today. Known for his infectious energy, rhythmic grooves, and boundless creativity, he is not only a solo artist with a dozen studio albums (so far), touring member of the funk group Vulfpeck, full-time member of The Fearless Flyers, but also an accomplished collaborator with greats such as Jon Batiste and Dave Koz, a YouTube variety show host, a podcast host, and more. In this episode, we discuss his unique approach to music, his influences, and all the details surrounding that night with DMB at MSG including how big of a fan of the band he truly is, and we may have snuck in a little Goose talk too. Cory is truly one of a kind. We had such a blast chatting with him and cannot thank him enough for his time. The COGS Pod Shop Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

As a thank you to their fans for the overwhelming support throughout the Hall of Fame voting and nomination process, and to celebrate such an incredible European tour, the band is treating everyone to a live stream of their tour-closing show from Lisbon, Portugal on Cinco de Mayo! The band has partnered with Volta, a technology and entertainment company who's revolutionizing the streaming experience. We were lucky enough to have Zak Semcken & Andrew Corbett of Volta join us to talk about Volta's journey with DMB so far and where this all may lead in the future. They did it! The votes are in, and the Dave Matthews Band will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on October 19, 2024! In this "emergency episode", we celebrate this incredible accomplishment by recapping some of DMB's accomplishments, influences, and impact on and off the stage throughout their 33 year (and counting) career. No one is more deserving, and we cannot be more proud of and happy for the entire DMB family (band/crew/fans). Congratulations!
DMB played their first 2 shows of 2024 this past weekend at Dolby Live in Las Vegas and then headlining the Extra Innings Festival in Tempe, Arizona. The band gave us much to talk about on the stage, but on this episode we are taking you backstage for a unique experience had by friend of the pod, Clint Wells. Clint (guitarist for Morgan Wade) joined us to recap both shows, and tell us all about his "kid in a candy store" moment on stage, backstage, and side stage at Innings Fest. Trust us when we say you're just going to want to listen to this one. Thanks, as always, to Clint for coming on the podcast, and thanks to the DMB crew for being so kind and accommodating to him!
Another incredible weekend with Dave & Tim in Mexico is in the books, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone that had more to celebrate than this week's guest, friend of the pod Alex Sohani. Alex and his lovely wife were recently married and spent their honeymoon in Cancun, enjoyed 4 nights of great music, and on Sunday they celebrated Alex's 100th show! From the performances on the stage, to the parties in the pool, and even singing in the rain; we bring the full D&T Mexico experience to you! Thanks again to Alex, we are grateful that he was kind enough to join us and break it all down. Instagram Twitter Facebook
If youve ever tuned into SiriusXM, you're probably familiar with our latest guest for Convos on the Corner. Director of Programming and Host of SiriusXM's Dave Matthews Band Radio and Phish Radio channels, Ari Fink, joined us to discuss how he got his start at SiriusXM with the Grateful Dead channel, what goes into programming channels like DMB and Phish Radio, and of course who's his favorite DJ! In Part 2 of our interview with Steve Lillywhite, we wanted to explore some topics that may not have been as widely discussed as some of the ones we touched on in Part 1. Not only do we take a deeper dive into the last DMB record he has produced, Away From the World (2012), we also venture into the Phish waters and have Steve reminisce on his time producing Billy Breathes (1996) as well as their post-breakup comeback album Joy (2009). Incredibly insightful and unabashedly honest, Steve delivers some epic recollections and opinions that will certainly leave you yearning for more. Our time with Lillywhite concludes with an absolute can't miss "Rapid Fire" segment where we learn who would be sitting at Steve's dream dinner table, what project he is most proud of, and the band he'd most want to work with next. His answer shocked us! We cannot thank Steve enough for all of the fantastic music he has helped bring to our and millions of others' ears, for taking the time to speak with us and being so gracious throughout, and finally we really want to emphasive how wonderful he was to us. Thank you, Steve!
It was an absolute honor having DMB & music industry legend Steve Lillywhite join us live from "The Lillipad" for Convos on the Corner! This has truly been years in the making and because he has been a part of many interviews in his career, we wanted to make this one as fresh and unique as possible. In Part 1, we dive into how Steve got his start in music, what he's up to these days, and touch on some of the other bands he has worked with including The Rolling Stones, Phish, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, and of course U2 who he recently joined in Vegas to help prepare for their residency at The Sphere. We also discussed his incredible work with DMB on UTTAD, Crash, BTCS and the Lillywhite Sessions. Oh, and we actually had Steve listen to infamous MacHead and give us his reaction to hearing it again after all of these years, what it needed to have in order to have made the album, and the story behind its "lyrics". We hope you enjoy this enlightening convo with Steve - and be sure to come back next week for Part 2 where we discuss his works with Phish, the current band he'd want to produce, and an extended discussion about his potential final DMB record, Away From the World.
EMERGENCY PODCAST! 2024 DMB Summer Tour Dates are upon us, so Bruce & Nolan had to discuss. It's another big tour for the boys, though shorter than last year, with 32 shows at 22 stops, with some great 2-nighters per usual. Where will we see you on the road this summer???
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! It's the most wonderful time of the year, and for our final episode of 2023, we share our favorite "gifts" that we unwrapped from DMB this year. Beneath the tree was full of greatness; no socks or underwear this year; so tough decisions were made and we had to choose some of our favorite things. So, pour yourself some eggnog, curl up by the fire, and re-live a year full of magic and joy. Thank you all for an incredible 2023! Stay safe, give love, and be kind, always.
Goose and their fans descended on the Hampton Coliseum for the 10th annual Goosemas weekend, and we all collectively blasted off into space for a truly epic experience. With an "In Space" theme announced, the band took us to 4 unique planets and played 4 outstanding sets that included never before played covers, segues, and song arrangements that left everyone's faces appropriately melted. For those that are new to Goose, don't worry, we help correlate a lot of the music and our experiences to DMB ones as well. The entire experience was amazing and we hope you all enjoy our recap of Goosemas X!
Brian Calhoun has made guitars for the likes of Dave Matthews, Warren haynes, Brandi Carlile, Jason Mraz, and countless others and is a true renaissance man. He is the co-founder of Rockbridge Guitar Company, the creator of the Chickapig board game, 25 Outlaws card game, the Tinkertar children's guitar, and more, but he is also the most recent guest to join us for "Convos on the Corner." Brian spoke about his experiences at Berklee College of Music, playing in bluegrass bands, how Dave Matthews first got his hands on a Rockbridge guitar, making board games out of paper and sharpies, and why the Tinkertar could revolutionize how kids begin their musical journey. We hope you enjoy the convo as much as we did and we urge you to support and check out Brian's work below: Tinkertar: Walmart Amazon Target Buffalo Games Rockbridge Guitar Co. Chickapig
DMB ended their mini fall tour in epic fashion with two-night stands at Mohegan Sun and Madison Square Garden. Tune in for our reactions to the last U.S. shows of the year - and Happy Thanksgiving!

Stay tuned for Mohegan and MSG next week!

We cannot wait to see where this new journey will lead!
This week we were lucky enough to be able to sit down and chat with two gentlemen who were instrumental in the creation of the music video for "Everyday", Chuck McBride (Director) & Tim Harman (Producer). Chuck and Tim reminisce about how the conceptual ideas for the video were formulated, how they wound up with so many celebrities having cameos in the video, what it was like working with Dave and the band, and what the "When the World Ends" music video was going to look like before it was canned. This was truly an enlightneing and engaging conversation that we learned a lot from, and we hope you all enjoy it as much as we did. Thanks again to Chuck and Tim for their time and their work on this great video. Cheers!
While the band has been on a much deserved break, so have we, but as some of the DMB family hit the road again, so did we. Nolan was lucky enough to catch Tim Reynolds and Joe Lawlor in Raleigh, NC last week as TR3 kicked off their fall tour in style. We recap this special night and highlight how incredible it is to be up close and personal with these true musical virtuosos. We also finally give our opinions surrounding the good and bad surrounding the BTCS 25th anniversary re-release and related merch. It's good to be back and we hope you all enjoy!
The 2023 Summer Tour came to a close this past weekend at The Gorge, and wow did these boys have something to say. DMB may have truly saved the best for last as they weaved in and out of dark and celebratory themes throughout the catalog-encompassing 3 night stand. Tune in to hear our thoughts on everything that went down over Labor Dave Weekend, and thank you to each and every one of you for listening!
Don't call it a comeback, but not only has DMB returned from a mini-break, but so have we. A lot has happened in the last month or so, and we have a lot to say about it. Join us as we discuss the Fall Tour announcement, the initial West Coast shows, and of course the return of one of the band's best songs of all time, Spoon!
For the first installment of “Concerts on the Corner”, we invite you to enjoy an entire concert made up of our all-time favorite performances from SPAC. To some, SPAC is the DMB-Mecca. It's where epic performances have become the norm and legendary shows are all but expected. Encompassing 19 different shows over 25 years, this concert features some of the best performances, guest appearances, never-before-heard segues, and of course a few "all-timers". We even took the liberty of creating a few new epic moments as well. Our plan is to continue with this series every month or so and have regular full band shows that we choose or ones that we completely mix together and create just like this SPAC show. We will see how it goes!
With the band now on a well deserved break, we are back to recap everything that happened from Camden all the way down to West Palm Beach. Tour debuts, special guests, and unique versions of classic songs dominated this 6 show stretch and we had a lot to say about it all. Cheers!
DMB pulled out all the stops at SPAC and Matt Norlander was there to help us recap an epic weekend, which featured the legend Béla Fleck back on stage. Matt takes us behind the scenes of his 99th and 100th shows, where he got an exclusive interview with the GOAT, Carter Beauford, for an upcoming feature article in "Modern Drummer." Plenty of Carter and backstage stories that you don't want to miss in this episode! And we can't forget Warren Haynes showing up for the Holmdel and Jones Beach shows this week with some all-time performances. What a run for the Dave Matthews Band and its fans!
It has been a few weeks since we last got together to discuss the happenings of the 2023 Summer Tour, and holy cow has a lot happened! On this episode we cover a whopping 10 shows that all happened in a 20 day span and included an impressive 25 tour debut. The band is firing on all cylinders as they are not only busting out classics and rarities left and right, but also keeping everyone on their toes with teases and fakes and song placement. As we head into the SPAC weekend, we cannot wait to see what DMB has in store for us all next!
Dave Matthews is everywhere - and this week he surprised us all by joining Dead & Company during their final tour! The off-shoot of the legendary Grateful Dead brought Dave on stage for the end of their last show in Boulder, Colorado on July 3rd for the last four songs of the night. It was a monumental moment for everyone involved, from the stage to the crowd to everyone streaming at home. Nolan & Bruce break it all down for you, including Dave's history with the Grateful Dead and its members, in this week's special edition episode.
This week we were joined by Ryan Storm, a true music Renaissance-man, to dive deep into the Darien show (his first show since 2013) and so much more. Ryan is the founder of the media company Storm Sound, hosts 3 podcasts - We Move Through Stormy Weather (Phish and various artists), Always Almost There (Goose), Things of Gold (Snarky Puppy), and writes show recaps for JamBase as well. He provides a lot of excellent perspective and insight into the performances from Darien, the show of the tour so far in Bangor, the annual stop in Mansfield, as well as some of the parallels between DMB and our other favorite band, Goose! We hope you all enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it, and please make sure to check out all of Ryan Storm's projects linked below. Cheers! DMB rolled into Forest Hills, NY last week, and friend of the pod Brian Weinstein, host of the Phish-centric "Attendance Bias" podcast was there to attend his first DMB show since 2002. Be sure to check out Brian's podcast, "Attendance Bias", which is dedicated to discussing unique Phish shows/jams with a unique guest that attended the show du jour every episode. Thanks again, Brian!

"Walk Around the Moon", the Dave Matthews Band's 10th studio album, is finally here and we are back to deliver our full review to you. We dissect and discuss every aspect of the record from the music and lyrics, to the production and mix, and if we truly think that this is just a collection of songs or if there are enough connecting themes to make this a true concept album. Whether you agree or disagree with our thoughts, we hope you enjoy our breakdown and review of "Walk Around the Moon". Cheers!

Last week saw no shortage of happenings in the DMB world, specifically surrounding the soon-to-be-released Walk Around the Moon, so we took some time to digest it all and had to get together to dissect and discuss. Joe Lawlor is a renaissance man within the Dave Matthews Band camp and a legend amongst the fanbase. From his duties as the band's live recording engineer, archivist, real-time setlist updater, to his ripping on-stage appearances, Joe has seen and done it all throughout his 20+ year career touring the world with DMB. He was generous enough to sit down with us for more than 2 hours to discuss his musical background outside of DMB, taking the stage for the first time with them in 2006, his favorite DMB show of all time, a little bit of new album talk and SO much more. Thanks to Joe for his time and his generosity in sharing stories and his insight into what it's like to be side stage and backstage for the Dave Matthews Band. Enjoy!
