Charlie Peacock is a Billboard chart-topping, six-time Grammy Award-winning music producer whose recordings now exceed 25 million album sales. Billboard named him one of the 500 most important producers in popular music history. He has held executive positions at EMI and SONY/ATV and he founded the Universal Music Group imprint re:think. He helped launch The Lone Bellow, Switchfoot, and The Civil Wars. And now, he has a new book, Roots & Rhythm: A Life in Music. These credentials make Charlie podcast-worthy in just about any format that is interested in the intersection of Christianity and pop culture. But one of the reasons I wanted to have Charlie on the program today is that he's one of the most thoughtful guys I know when it comes to issues of fame and its pitfalls, vocation and work, and creativity. It was a special treat for me to get to spend this time with Charlie Peacock, and I hope you find it special, too. Charlie spoke to me from his studio in Nashville. He has a new book, Roots & Rhythm: A Life in Music. I highly recommend it. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. Until next time, may God bless you.

Zach Williams is the founding member and frontman for The Lone Bellow, an Americana Folk featuring Zach, Kanene Donehey Pipkin and Brian Elmquist. Best known for their powerhouse vocals and emotive blend of folk, country, and soul, the storied trio exploded onto the scene in 2014 with their self-titled debut, which made a bunch of end-of-year lists and garnered praise from respected outlets like People Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and NPR, who lovingly dubbed them an ‘earnest and magnetic folk-pop [trio] built to shake the rafters.'Zach got into songwriting after a personal tragedy—his wife, who was paralyzed in a horseback riding accident, inspired him to channel his grief into music. He'd been writing songs for a few years but the accident pushed him into bolder creative spaces and out into the NYC folk scene. Rockwood Music Hall, a mainstay of many an indie folk musician, played a key early role in Williams' success.  Initially performing as a solo artist, Williams eventually brought in Pipkin and Elmquist, both of whom shared a similar passion for Americana music and storytelling. The trio quickly became a tight-knit unit, blending their diverse influences into a distinctive sound that continues to turn heads a decade later. The Bellow moved to Nashville in 2016, made a bunch more records, and shortly after this taping, performed a live concert with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.Zach and I sat down to talk about the evolution of his music and career, now in its second decade. Among the things I wanted to know was what he —at the outset of his creative journey — imagined a successful career to look like, versus what it eventually became. We touched on those early days, how the music scene has changed with the domination of Spotify and its ilk. He also played one live in the studio. If you're feeling what we do, take a second to like and subscribe. It helps a lot. Zach Williams is best known as ⅓ of the Nashville-based supergroup The Lone Bellow. He joins Rhett on this episode to discuss the twist of fate that led him to Brooklyn, where his musical journey began, why he took a break from songwriting to try his hand at long form fiction, and the conversation with Jim James that changed his perspective. Zach tells Rhett about The War of Art, a book he turns to when he needs help moving through the inner resistance to create, and the two discuss the very personal process of releasing a song into the world. All born in the South, the three members of The Lone Bellow met while living in Brooklyn and quickly found that in addition to having commonality in their upbringing, they all had wildly potent voices, a knack for harmonies and a desire to write in the great Southern story-telling tradition - songs about heartbreak and struggles and the human condition. SUMMARY:Zach Williams of The Lone Bellow chats about his songwriting development and the band's latest album, Love Songs for LosersPART ONE:Scott and Paul dive deep on the evolution of George Michael's "Careless Whisper" and the role that production plays in presenting a great song.PART TWO:Our in-depth conversation with Zach Williams of The Lone BellowABOUT ZACH WILLIAMS:Originally delving into songwriting as a way to cope with a family medical crisis, Zach Williams eventually moved to New York City to seriously pursue a career as a writer and performer. There, he formed the group The Lone Bellow, which released its self-titled debut album in early 2013. People magazine named it among the top 10 albums of the year, and it earned the attention of Aaron Dessner of the band The National, who produced The Lone Bellow's second album, Then Came the Morning. The group subsequently earned an Americana Music Award nomination for Duo or Group of the Year, and relocated to Nashville soon after. They went on to record a third album in Nashville with producer Dave Cobb before making yet another record with Aaron Dessner. The band's most recent release, Love Songs for Losers, is their first self-produced album. The lead single “Honey” became their first Top 10 single on Billboard's Adult Alternative Airplay chart.

Help produce Basic Folk by contributing at https://basicfolk.com/donate/The latest from Nashville-based, New York-bred and Georgia-born trio The Lone Bellow, Love Songs for Losers, was recorded at Roy Orbison's creepy former house in Hendersonville, TN. The house's vibe bled its way into the vibe of the album, which was co-produced by band members Brian Elmquist and Kanene Pipkin, producing vocals. The band went for a bombastic sound and they did it with no adult supervision (read: no outside producer influence). Frontman Zach Williams expounded on the experience along with his affinity for the house's architect, the eccentric Braxton Dixon. We talk about a few standout songs from album including “Gold,” which takes a look at new small town life heavily impacted by the opioid crisis, “Honey,” a sort of poking love song to his wife and “Homesick,” which serves as the theme song for his new renovation program “The Williams Family Cabin.” The TV show features Zach and his wife Stacy flipping a cabin outside of Nashville and all the antics that come with it. Zach is familiar with the world of home renovation shows thanks to his close friend and home reno personality, the designer Leanne Ford. He actually got some good advice from Leanne prior to starting the show, but neglected to listen (LOL).Zach's a really fun person to watch on stage, he's a remarkable showman. Catch The Lone Bellow live if you can. Their new album is fantastic! The creepy old matchstick house must have really worked wonders.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Rosie discusses how a seemingly simple question from one of her boys led her to think that really there was a deeper/bigger question being asked - essentially, “what do I have to do for attention, praise, or love?” In spotting that, and nipping that incorrect conclusion in the bud, it struck on an incorrect conclusion she had carried through her life from childhood, and only recently corrected herself. Listen along as Rosie talks to and comforts her younger, former self (Tiny Psycho Roise) and stays on alert with her own children to try to beat them to their own (incorrect/false) conclusions, so that they don't carry those misunderstandings or "child deduction" into their adult life. Parenting is already a tall order - raising them, teaching them, trying our best to answer their questions, but what about the questions they don't ask? The underlying questions they may not even know they're wondering, and the wrong conclusions they come to trying to put things together. Admittedly, that's a toughie, but let's try to be on the lookout for those, and try to cover things just in case. Just in case they're getting the wrong idea of what they have to do to get love, or to be loved, because what we want more than anything is for them to know that they are loved unconditionally.   - Send Rosie your questions to have answered on a future podcast! -  AskRosieLFP@gmail.com  Brought to you by: Lullabies For Parents Vol 1 on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music Featuring guest appearances: Sufjan Stevens, The Shins, Iron & Wine, Alexi Murdoch, William Fitzsimmons, Audrey Assad, Charity from The Head & The Heart, Kanene from The Lone Bellow, Dawn Landes, Denison Witmer, and many more. From time to time here at Infectious Groove, we run across a particular artist or group that puts so much time and effort into a project that you can't help but fall in love with it. When time and effort are a top priority it becomes obvious just how far a carefully crafted album can take you. Couple that with mastering the art of live performance, and you have an undeniable package that most artists only dream of. These guys might have cut their teeth in NYC, but what you're hearing here doesn't sound like anything else coming out of the empire state. The Lone Bellow put the pedal to the medal when it came to putting together their sophomore effort "Then Came The Morning". A carefully crafted, and well thought out project that represents not only who The Lone Bellow are, but also the direction in which they're headed. A continuation perhaps, of the sound we've come to know from their first record, but with subtle differences in production due to their working with Aaron Dessner. Even with the changes in production, make no mistake as this is still very much an album that is owned entirely by The Lone Bellow, and boy do they put in the work to let you know it. Each song has a way of unfolding itself around the voices of Zach, Kanene, and Brian. It's hard not to get lost in the melodic flow and gracious harmonies that appear throughout this project and the way that each of these three accompany one another, yet hold their own entirely is something that simply cannot be explained and is better left to be deciphered by ear. This album is packed with both simplicity and sophistication, with matched undertones of soulful lonliness with a bit of sorrow sprinkled throughout. To be completely honest, we could go on forever about this album but when all is said and done, you just have to listen to it to understand. So hey, why don't you do just that and join us as we listen and dig into one hell of an album that more people should absolutely be aware of.
