In this episode of Seeing Them Live, Charles interviews Alan Rosenberg. Alan is the creator and host of The Alan Rosenberg Show on YouTube, a channel dedicated to his lifelong passion for music. Growing up on Long Island, New York, Alan was introduced to rock and roll at an early age through his older sister, whose bedroom walls were covered in posters of The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and The Allman Brothers. By age 10, Alan was already building what would become a meticulously catalogued collection of over 5,000 albums — all of which he has listened to multiple times. In this episode, Alan takes host Charles Zona through the roots of his obsession, including the typed yearly album lists he kept starting in 1973, a tradition handed down from his sister that eventually evolved into a comprehensive digital database tracking every album he owns, every song on it, its chart position, and the year he acquired it. Alan shares vivid memories from more than five decades of concert-going, starting with his very first show — The Rolling Stones at Madison Square Garden in June 1975, featuring the legendary Lotus Stage and a then-new Ron Wood sitting in as guest guitarist. From there, the conversation moves through highlights including the Stones' massive Steel Wheels Tour at Shea Stadium, a Simon & Garfunkel reunion in Central Park, and what Alan calls perhaps his most purely fun concert experience: seeing The Rolling Stones at the intimate MGM Grand in Las Vegas during the 1999 No Security Tour. A standout moment from the episode is Alan's account of seeing U2 at The Sphere in Las Vegas — a venue he discovered before it became widely known — where the crystal-clear, immersive sound system left him calling it one of the greatest concert experiences of his life. The conversation also covers some of Alan's more disappointing experiences, including a Hackney Diamonds-era Rolling Stones show at MetLife Stadium where the sound quality was, in his words, "atrocious," and a Van Halen reunion show at Jones Beach that failed to deliver. Ever wonder what goes into creating a race experience you'll never forget?

In this episode, Charles sits down with Victor Gurbo, a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and guitar builder from Brooklyn, New York. Victor's musical journey began early — literally from infancy, when his father discovered that Traveling Wilburys recordings were the only thing that could calm a crying baby Victor. That early imprinting on Dylan's collaborators set the stage for a lifelong obsession with live music, particularly the work of Bob Dylan, whom Victor estimates he has seen between 20 and 30 times. The conversation opens with Victor recounting his very first concert at age nine — an Arlo Guthrie show in Martha's Vineyard — a memory that exists more in fragments than in full, including nodding off during parts of the set, only to snap back awake for "Alice's Restaurant." The episode is rich with vivid concert memories. Victor shares stories of seeing Levon Helm multiple times at the Beacon Theatre and Terminal 5, reflecting on how Helm's deep love for his audience was palpable, especially after his battle with throat cancer. Victor also recounts a bittersweet Conor Oberst show in 2008, where he got to hear a then-unreleased song that would later appear on the next album — the kind of "you were there first" moment that makes live music so irreplaceable. But perhaps the most memorable story is the infamous Jack White show at Radio City Music Hall in 2012. After losing their tickets outside the venue and spending an hour on hold with StubHub, Victor and his friend were gifted front-row seats by a compassionate employee — only to watch White cut the show short, apparently unhappy with the audience's energy. For Victor, a performer himself, the experience was deeply personal and left a lasting impression on how he thinks about the relationship between an artist and their crowd. Victor's life as a performer and craftsman are equally compelling. After ordering a custom guitar from legendary New York luthier Rick Kelly — who famously builds instruments from the reclaimed wood of demolished Manhattan buildings — and waiting four and a half years for it to arrive, Victor taught himself to build guitars in the meantime, eventually winning Best Band in Brooklyn at NPR's Battle of the Boroughs in 2013 with an instrument he made himself. Since then, the band has performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Carnegie Hall, where a mid-show equipment failure became the crowd's favorite moment of the night. Most recently, Victor released Gurbo and Company Live 2025, a live album recorded at NYC's Cafe Wha? featuring eight tracks, including covers of Bob Dylan's arrangement of "Rollin' & Tumblin'" and Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues." A three night stand is a bit of a rarity in the Pearl Jam world, but any time that it's happened, the shows immediately become a part of the band's folklore. Mansfield's trilogy is always the premiere go to, but the three shows at Jones Beach in 2000 are legendary in their own right. The Daughter/It's OK moment from night two may still dominate the conversation 25 years later, but it's the night three show where the band went to all depths of their catalog to put together an extremely memorable finale on Long Island. The big theme of this show is centered around the high usage of an album that's considered to be a favorite of the die hard fan - No Code. There were seven tracks from the record played, and none of them were what you may consider to be as the commonly played songs from that record at the time (Hail, Hail, Lukin and to an extent, Habit). It's songs like Red Mosquito, Off He Goes, letting Stone sing on an inspired version of Mankind and a late encore performance of Smile, which was not considered to be a common song during this era like it is today. The band took it upon themselves to give this crowd something they'd never forget, and it wasn't just for the fact that these songs appeared, they all blew the doors down. This episode covers night two from Pearl Jam's three night stay at Jones Beach Amphitheater in 2000. This show will forever be known for a moment that's considered to be one of the most emotionally impactful in their history. The first North American leg of the Binaural tour was coming off the heels of one of the worst tragedies in music history when nine fans were killed during their set at the Roskilde Festival. Having decided to stick with the tour plans as scheduled, there was no time for the band to fully enter the grieving process, which meant that a lot of it needed to be done on the road or during their shows. One of the songs that was added to the live repertoire was from a band named Dead Moon called It's OK. This was the song that helped the band heal during this challenging time period. We'll dig into a lot of what this version meant for both the band and fans alike. As they toured throughout North America, every stop was a chance to heal from that moment. We are coming off our visit to the Palmetto State for the North Charleston Coliseum, and today's episode is all about a venue that feels like it's been around forever in the Phish world: the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, PA. I always group Philadelphia in with Merriweather Post, SPAC, and Jones Beach as part of the I-95 Corridor tour circuit, and while there is truth to that, there is a richer Phish history at The Mann than most venues. Today, I am joined by my friends Tom and Stephanie who have long-standing roots to Philadelphia and Tom especially has a long history with the Mann. They started about ten minutes ago and we've—well, we've even been able to see a few, just the ghost of them really. We couldn't figure out why the hell fireworks of all things would be bleeding through and then we realized that it's the fourth of July. Not only that but, as Harry pointed out, the bicentennial is next year. She figures people are probably kicking off a whole year of celebration today.  One hundred and ninety nine years. That's how long America has been a country. I can't tell if that's a long time or a short time. Two hundred doesn't sound very long as the lifespan of a nation, but then when you think about everything America has done in that time…both the good and the bad… I mean, it's mostly bad, isn't it? I'm certainly not a poster child for the establishment, but I think we can all agree that America really made quite the impression in the last two centuries, including killing a lot of people. Which…I guess that's another case of throwing stones from a glass house.  But also…my grandparents came here from Scotland, Harry's came from Poland—everyone we know came from somewhere else. Living in New York was the best of this—all the different people you could meet, the different food you could eat, the languages you'd hear on the subway.  The last time I saw fourth of July fireworks with Harry was…sixty five or six, I think. The whole crew went out to Jones Beach with a case of beer and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that Pete had thrown together for us. We'd just finished fencing the last item from a job a few months earlier and I think we were all feeling that sense of camaraderie particularly strongly. And I remember Pete saying “what a country we live in. A true haven for the crooked and criminal” and we all toasted to that. He was right. From the…Boston Tea Party to the wild west to us, what is America's legacy but one of outlawry? Including fireworks! Maybe not in every state, but there's something fitting about celebrating the country's birthday by enjoying an illegal activity.  All those memories now…thinking about Pete hadn't really hurt like this even after Harry first told me but knowing the details now, being unable to create a more forgiving narrative in my head… It just hurts to think about, that's all. I—I loved him, in my own way and I thought he—and I like to think that Harry was paranoid, that there's something about his old partner that we don't know that made Pete do what he did and that he'd never have hurt me but he— I think it's just the realization that I didn't really know him at all. And I knew that—I knew that he was a mystery to me, to everyone, but I thought I knew the way I didn't know him, if that makes sense. I thought I knew the important things. Singer Jon Bellion disclosed the inner workings of his unfavorable former deal with Live Nation on The George Janko Show. Hi everybody and welcome to today's episode of Attendance Bias. I am your host, Brian Weinstein. When I first began collecting tapes, I would always keep my eyes out for Phish shows at Jones Beach. Having grown up on Long Island, going to concerts at Jones Beach was a summer tradition. It didn't even matter who was playing–the venue was a 10 minute drive for me, and on a nice night, it's one of the best outdoor venues in New York. So you can imagine my reaction when I found out that my new favorite band had played there a number of times. It's with that genuine delight and natural curiosity that I approached today's guest, Jonathan Frederic, about his chosen show: July 23, 1993, Phish's first time headlining their own show at Jones Beach. 1993 was an amazing time to learn about Phish, as they were just dipping their toes in the water to jump from small theaters to larger amphitheaters, a transition that would continue for approximately the next two years. During that time, the band was introducing new music from Rift, beginning their craziest musical exploration and experimentation, and creating new ways to connect to the audience, as they couldn't maintain un-mic'd a capella performances and the Big Ball Jam in these sprawling arenas and amphitheaters.It was a pleasure to hear a first-person experience from someone who experienced all of these changes in ONE SHOW, especially at my one-time hometown venue. So let's join Jonathan to talk about when to eat carbohydrates, ending up front-row center at the venue, and The Pixies as we go over July 23, 1993 at the Jones Beach Amphitheater.

Despite being burnt, Drew's heading downtown to see Frank Caliendo. Rich Little has been haunting Drew since college, but Drew might have the last laugh. Rolling Stone Magazine talks to Lou Gramm about Foreigner making the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Drew finds the biggest Foreigner fan possibly ever on YouTube who makes us aware of the "penis measuring" contest that occurred during the reunion concert at Jones Beach in 2017. Phish played an incredible show at the Sphere in Las Vegas. It even made Price is Right host Drew Carey consider swearing off sex. Cypress Hill and The Pharcyde played the Fillmore in Detroit and set a record for the most marijuana consumed in one building in one night. The NFL Draft is finally here and taking over all of downtown Detroit.  Trudi pushes hard for everyone to take the bus to the draft. The Heisman Trust is returning their 2005 Heisman Trophy to Reggie Bush. Michael Michaels (great name) made one of the worst bets in trying to secure Reggie as a client. Former NFL TE Rob Gronkowski's girlfriend Camille Kostek is Maxim's new cover model. In other news, Maxim is still a thing. Ted Lasso star Sam Richardson is back in town for the NFL Draft. We may never know why The Detroiters hate the old Drew and Mike WRIF show. Our audience really responded to Woke Dad and his made up stories. Thankfully, he has some new whoppers. It looks like there's no way to stop the protests at Columbia University. Is the term "Genocide" played out? Some people are saying that the new "Detroit" sign has been defaced with dongs. The FTC declares noncompete clauses to be what we all thought they were- total BS. Some salary employees are about to make some overtime pay. Google fired 50 employees that protested their own companies' products for "helping" Israel. Joe Biden still has trouble reading his teleprompter. Brandon The Plant Guy does not want TikTok banned.
