In this episode, we cover two people who were likely homeless at the time of their deaths– Preacher Man and Victoria Jane Doe. On November 8th 2010, in Tampa, Florida, a homeless man went looking for his fellow homeless friend whom he hadn't heard from in five to six months. He checked the woods where his friend resided and he made an unfortunate discovery. He found his friend diseased in his camp area and called the police. It's estimated he had been dead for a few days before his body was found. The diseased man was known as Mike or Preacher Man to his friends, but no one knew his legal name. He was between 5'5 and 5'9 and was only 90 to 105 pounds, which is very underweight. He was between 50 and 60 years old and had 2 inch long gray hair. For our second case, on November 11, 2022, there was a fire in Downtown Victoria, in British Columbia, Canada. Although firefighters and police believe the fire was not set on purpose, someone did unfortunately lose their life in it. Once the flames were extinguished, first responders found a deceased woman. Authorities believe the woman was homeless and used the building as shelter. Unfortunately, the devastation of the fire has made it difficult to identify her by her physical appearance. She could have been between the ages of 20 and 60 years old and was anywhere between 176 and 395 pounds, or 80 to 179 kilograms. She had blue glittery toenail polish on at the time of her death. Today is a very different episode because we aren't covering an unidentified victim, but rather, a notorious criminal. Let's talk about DB Cooper. November 24th, 1971, was the night before Thanksgiving for us in the States. At the Portland International Airport in Oregon, a man purchased a one-way ticket to Seattle-Tacoma Airport for $20 in cash with the name Dan Cooper. The plane was Northwest Orient Airlines flight 305, a 727. This man was described as a middle-aged white male with a dark complexion. He had dark hair, brown eyes, and tan skin. The report of his height varies between 5'10 and 6'1 depending on the source. He was between 170 and 175 pounds and was wearing either a black or brown suit, a white shirt, brown shoes, black sunglasses, and a black trenchcoat. His luggage consisted of a brown paper bag and a briefcase. He had no accent to the people on the flight, which in the States, often indicates a West Coast accent. He later hijacked the plane and stole $200,000. He parachuted out of the plane and was never seen again. He is now one of the U.S.'s most notorious criminals. TW: This episode covers the cases of a teenager and an infant. No explicit or graphic language is used. Our first case is about a young girl who was picked up in Perry, Oklahoma with her guitar, her birth certificate, and a coin purse by serial killer Ronald Lamphear. Along with his girlfriend, Diana Geisinger, they rode together until they got to Guadalupe County, New Mexico. This is where her body was found on the side of I-40, Route 74. She was wearing blue jeans and a blue halter-style vest with jewelry that's described as Native American in style. She also had dark brown moccasin shoes, which are also a Native American style. The medical examiner describes her as white with curly, (possibly dyed) blonde hair and blue eyes. Our second case is about a baby that investigators lovingly named Wyatt. On March 26, 2020, at the height of COVID, an infant was found along a water bank in the Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee by a fisherman. The baby had only been deceased for 24 hours and he was so young that we only know he was 34-weeks gestational age, which means that he was born very early and didn't even have a chance to develop past that point. All we really know about him is that he had thick curly hair and was white, and was only found with a black plaid shirt around his head. A man named "Joe" tragically met his demise while walking in the Euclid Creek Reservation in South Euclid, Ohio on May 8th, 1981. Accompanied by three other individuals, he, unfortunately, fell off a cliff. Joe, a Caucasian male, possessed brown hair that was described as thin, indicating possible hair loss. His brown eyes contained lighter shades within them, and he sported a beard and mustache. Standing at a height of 5'7" and weighing 146 pounds, he had a slender physical appearance. Among his belongings, Joe was discovered with suntan oil, two bottles of bonnie bell lotion, ultra brite toothpaste, a green toothbrush, two Bic razors, four cleansing wipes, and a plastic vial. These items were found alongside a Lee brand blue denim jacket (size 38 regular). The attire he wore consisted of a plaid flannel shirt in blue, brown, tan, and white, bearing the Grodins Brand. His pants were tan Levi Strauss, and he had on a medium-sized brown vinyl jacket from the L'avion brand. Additionally, he wore a large-sized brown belt by Anne Klein. For footwear, he had orange ankle boots in size 8.5. Regrettably, on July 26, 1981, an individual was observed tragically leaping to their demise from the Detroit-Superior bridge. The specific location of this incident was approximately 100 feet south of Merwin Avenue. Unfortunately, there is limited information available regarding this individual. However, here is what we do know. The person was identified as a Caucasian male, likely aged between 45 and 55. Standing at a height of 5'10" and weighing 143 pounds, he had brown straight hair of considerable length. He possessed a graying brown mustache and beard. Although described as hazel, his eyes appear blue in post-mortem images. It appears that he was missing at least two front teeth, and potentially more towards the back. This suggests a lack of access to dental care for several years, possibly even decades. In terms of attire, he was discovered wearing a single blue quilted jacket from K Mart, which was sized small. He also had on a light blue, green, and beige flannel shirt, along with plaid flannel pants in shades of brown, blue, gray, and white. Notably, he wore mismatched socks, one blue and the other black, with a possibility of a third sock layered beneath the blue one according to NamUs records. Blue Converse shoes were also present, although the size is not specified. Additionally, a white belt is visible in the clothing photographs provided by NamUs. As the construction workers were breaking up concrete, they unfortunately found a sock with what looked like a skeletonized human foot. Investigators believe the man has been dead since the 1980s. He was 5 feet 9 inches, which is about 175 centimeters. We aren't sure what his hair color was for some reason. We do know this John Doe likely had some type of degenerative disease, specifically DISH. He also had this degeneration in the sacroiliac joint and extraspinal area. He had a well-developed maxillary torus along the midline of his mouth palate. We also know he was a bit older at 40 to 57 years old and he was white. Rockdale County John Doe: On December 17, 2010, skeletal remains were found near a vacant house off Salem Road behind the Ingles Market shopping center in Conyers, Georgia. In today's episode, podcast host, Hailey, is covering two DNA Doe Project cases. For the first case: On October 24, 1988 mushroom hunters were exploring the woods of a logging area in Elma, Washington State. As they looked for mushrooms, this group of explorers eventually stumbled upon skeletal remains. These remains ended up belonging to a young woman. At the time of her death, this young woman was likely in her 20s, but could have been as old as 40 years old. She was pretty short at 4 foot 10 to 5 foot 2, or 147 to 157 centimeters. She was also likely around 100 pounds at the time of her death. She also had dark brown hair. Her #18 and #19 teeth were extracted, and she had an amalgam filling in her #20 tooth. This is that metallic filling. All of these teeth are on the lower left of your jaw. The rest of her dentals are available. For the second case: On June 29, 2010 in Eloy, Arizona, a police officer attempted to pull over a van, but the van's driver decided to evade police. The driver, who was a man, ended up driving onto a farm field where officers lost sight of it. Later that day, they discovered the van and the driver on a dirt road near a canal. The next morning, her body was found in the same canal. This Jane Doe was very young at just 17 to 25 and was 5'4, or 162.5 centimeters. She was Hispanic, and after looking at her post-mortem image, I completely agree. She had brown eyes and her lips were on the thinner side. She had quite a few freckles, including one above her left eyebrow above the arch. Her post-mortem image is very recognizable, so if you do think this is someone you may know, I would suggest looking at it. This week's podcast episode is about two Jane Does from the beautiful country of Canada. Here is some basic information about these two women and their stories. The Mossleigh Jane Doe is the only name we have for a woman found in Mossleigh, Alberta, Canada. Mossleigh is an extremely small and rural town with a population of just over 50 people. The county Mossleigh is in, which is Vulcan County, has under 4,000 people. It's about 60 kilometers from Calgary, which is one of the largest cities in Canada. Investigators found that the remains belonged to a female and had been deceased for one to five years. she had a healed fracture to her right cheekbone. She also had a button osteoma on the right side of her forehead. This woman also had several missing teeth and likely wore an upper denture. She also could have had arthritis and neck pain during her life. She was between 5'2 and 5'6. She could have been anywhere from 40 and 80 years old. They believe she was either white or first nations for her ethnicity. The Clarington Jane Doe was found in Bowmanville, Ontario on October 27, 2006. Just like our first case, this woman was found by a farmer who was harvesting dogwood plants in a marshy field. This was near the South Service Road and Holt Road, near the entrance Darlington Nuclear Plant. This Jane Doe was confirmed to be a woman after looking at her skull, femur, and other recovered bones. They also confirmed she was very young, just between 18 and 25 years old. The most unique quality about this woman was her teeth. She had protruding teeth and her upper teeth were more noticeable. Her jaws were also very narrow. One of her front teeth was slightly wider than the other. She also had white fillings on her front teeth, along with silver fillings in her back teeth. Just like our first Jane Doe, this Jane Doe also had a healed fracture on her face, but hers was on her nose. They aren't sure if this was from an injury or from a rhinoplasty, but they do know she had some type of fracture. They also found that her bones looked like she could have been anemic. The Galveston County John Doe is the name of a younger man of African descent who was discovered on the Galveston Beach in Texas on Mother's Day, May 10th, 2020. He was 16 to 35, and was on the shorter side, at 5'7, or 170 centimeters. He was around 144 pounds at the time of his death and appeared to be in good physical shape. His eyes were decomposed after being in the water for some time, but they were likely dark. He was found with Under Armor slides on his arms, which many people, including investigators, believe were used as a flotation device. He also had black, generic swim trunks on and black Calvin Klein briefs underneath. In Stourbridge, England on April 18, 1943, four young boys were looking for bird's eggs for food on a private property called the Hagley Woods. They came across the skeleton of a woman stuffed into a Wych Elm tree. The woman was around 35 years old and had been dead for at least 18 months. The skeleton had no signs of injury, and it was determined she died from asphyxiation. She was found with a gold ring, one blue shoe with crepe soles, a cloth skirt, peach-colored taffeta, and light brown hair. Based on these articles, they believed she was of German or Dutch descent. Her jaw had a deformity and her teeth were fairly crooked. Our first case is about the Staten Island John Doe is the nickname of an unidentified teenager or young man who was discovered on January 17, 2021. According to NCMEC, the John Doe was either Asian or Hispanic. His hair color and his eye color are unfortunately unknown. We do know he was between 5'0 and 5'4, so he was on the shorter side for an older teenager or a young male. Our second case is about a young man who was found on February 3, 1989 along the Cobbs Creek Parkway in Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This area is fairly close to downtown Philadelphia, a 20 minutes drive. This young man was likely dead for two days before he was found. The young man was likely between 17 and 21 years old at the time of his death. He was African American and he was 5'9 or 71 inches and was 139 pounds. He had black hair, medium-length curls. He also had brown eyes. His nickname was likely Dallas and was from New York. The Cheerlead in the Truck is the nickname for a young woman who was found in the Frederick City Watershed in Maryland. She was around 5'4, or 163 centimeters. Investigators believe she was between 17 and 27. We aren't exactly sure how long she had been dead for, but it was no sooner than Spring 1982, and no later than 10 years prior. At the time of her death, her hair was medium-length and dark brown, but could have been auburn naturally. She was given her nickname because her feet and pelvis bones were worn greatly for her age, leading people to believe she was some type of athlete. Listen to more of her case on this podcast episode.
