FIDF CEO Steven Weil is joined by Israeli Druze leader Gadeer Kamal-Mreeh. Gadeer is the first Druze woman to have served in the Knesset, and has an incredible resume, building a remarkable career as one of the most impactful Israelis - Jewish or non-Jewish - in Israel. Gadeer explains her upbringing as an Israeli Druze woman, her father having told her to view herself as not a Druze living in the Jewish state, but as an Israeli. Most Druze lived in Lebanon, but left due to dissension. Many Druze residing in Syria, but the Israeli-Druze population is considered to be the most influential, and have provided a shining example to Druze people of how to integrate into a Democratic society while maintaining your identity. Druze have been viewed by Israelis, even during the early days of establishing the state of Israel, as a trusted and strong stabilizing force in the region. Having embraced modernization and a strong patriotism to the state of Israeli, with Druze serving passionately in the IDF and the Knesset, and contributing in other economic, social and political ways, the Druze have emerged as an invaluable minority of Israeli citizens, whose impact on Israel far exceeds their population. 12 Druze soldiers fell in the war and Gaza, and, being a small minority in the state, the losses have been felt deeply by the community. Gadeer discusses the tragedy of the Majdal-Shams terror attack in July of 2024. However, Gadeer points out how much stronger the ties between the Druze and wider Israeli community after witnessing the outpouring of support from other Israelis, and the massive attendance of Israelis at the victims' funerals. Donate NOW at FIDF.org for the fastest and most direct way to give IDF Soldiers what they need most. 100% of your contribution will go to meet their emergency humanitarian needs.

What if your investments could do more than grow your wealth? What if they could also fight injustice, uplift your neighbor, and even bring joy to the world? Joy probably isn't the first word that comes to mind when you think about investing, but maybe it should be. Robin John joins us today to share how investing can be more than financial—it can be deeply spiritual.Robin John is the CEO at Eventide Asset Management, LLC. Views expressed in this podcast are intended for information purposes and do not constitute investment advice. Eventide does not provide tax, accounting, or legal advice. Eventide's values-based approach to investing may not produce desired results and could result in underperformance compared with other investments. There is no guarantee that any investment will achieve its objectives, generate positive returns, or avoid losses.A Life-Changing Encounter in IndiaRobin was just 23 years old when his employer sent him to Pune, India, to support an outsourcing initiative. Although born in India, he had moved to the U.S. at the age of eight and was returning for the first time as a young professional. While staying in a guesthouse, he noticed two young men—Amal and Kamal—who took care of him daily, preparing meals and ironing his clothes. One evening, Robin asked where they slept and was shocked to learn they were sleeping on the hard floor of a hot, cramped pantry.“I had a beautiful air-conditioned room with extra space,” Robin recalled. “But they had no bed, no pillow, no blanket. And I looked just like them.”When he raised his concerns, he was told the guesthouse workers were not his company's responsibility. That response, though typical in business, left Robin deeply unsettled. It pushed him into prayer, fasting, and a season of searching. He began to ask: “Is business just about profit? Or could it be something more?”From Disillusionment to a Renewed MindThrough time in Romans 12—“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”—Robin experienced a major shift in perspective. He began to see that work, business, and investing could all be expressions of love for neighbor and tools for redemptive impact. That shift eventually led him, alongside his friend Dr. Finny Kuruvilla, to launch Eventide Asset Management—an investment firm with a bold mission: to invest in companies that make the world rejoice. What Makes a Company Worth Investing In?Eventide's approach centers on one key question: Is this company doing good? They look for companies whose products are truly good and whose practices serve others well—employees, customers, supply chains, communities, even the environment. Investing is a form of ownership, and when we invest, we are rooting for that company's success. But Eventide doesn't just embrace the good—it also avoids the harmful. In the book, Robin likens harmful companies to dragons that lurk outside the village in ancient stories, threatening human flourishing.Companies profiting from gambling, addiction, or exploitation—like sports betting platforms—may look appealing on a spreadsheet, but Robin challenges us to consider their deeper impact. As Christian investors, we must ask: What are we promoting in the world? Are we fighting the dragons, or feeding them?Cultivating Goodness, Like a GardenFrom the very beginning in Genesis 1, we see that we are called to cultivate, to build, to bring about flourishing. Business and investing can be part of that calling. From companies developing cancer treatments to those honoring their truck drivers by ensuring they can sleep at home with their families, these are the stories of modern cultivation, and they're the kinds of businesses Eventide champions.A Framework for Faith-Driven InvestingEventide's “Business 360” framework reflects biblical values and centers on love for neighbor. It seeks to:Avoid companies that cause harm.Embrace companies that promote human flourishing.Engage with companies to encourage positive change.Investors can explore two free tools at GoodInvestor.com:Portfolio Screening Tool – See how your current investments align with biblical values.Advisor Connection Tool – Get connected with a financial advisor who practices faith-aligned investing.Your Investments Can Honor GodRobin's hope for every reader of his new book, The Good Investor, is that they will walk away inspired, believing their investments can change the world and honor God in the process. You can purchase The Good Investor wherever books are sold. And if you're ready to explore how your wealth can serve the Lord and bless others, visit GoodInvestor.com to begin your journey. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:You've mentioned a specific company when talking about reverse mortgages on past shows. I recall you saying that it's the one you usually recommend. Can you remind me of the name?My wife and I are both chiropractors, but she's feeling called to stay home with our kids. We're still working through student loan debt and also hoping to buy a home here in Florida. I'm feeling torn about how to make the budget work.Resources Mentioned:Faithful Steward: FaithFi's New Quarterly Magazine (Become a FaithFi Partner)GoodInvestor.comThe Good Investor: How Your Work Can Confront Injustice, Love Your Neighbor, and Bring Healing to the World by Robin C. What does it really mean to bring precision medicine to every patient, in every community? In this inspiring, one-hour episode of the Precision Medicine Podcast, host Karan Cushman sits down with Dr. Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer at the American Cancer Society (ACS), for a wide-ranging conversation that reframes how we think about progress in cancer care. With a background in oncology, palliative care and health system innovation—and a personal story shaped by his mother's metastatic breast cancer diagnosis—Dr. Kamal offers a deeply human perspective on what it means to deliver not just the right treatment, but the right experience for every patient.Dr. Kamal shares how the ACS is working to make precision medicine more equitable by addressing barriers like geography, affordability, clinician burnout, and fragmented care. He explains the importance of “precision compassion”—the idea that personalized care must also include empathy, listening, and action tailored to the needs of each individual. “We can't talk about innovation,” he says, “without talking about accessibility.”From the importance of whole-person care and mobile health units in rural communities, to expanding insurance coverage for biomarker testing and building trust with patients and caregivers, this conversation is full of insight into what it will truly take to change the odds for people facing cancer. You'll also hear about the ACS's bold initiatives:The Change the Odds campaign, tackling ZIP code-driven disparities in careACS CAN's legislative efforts to expand access to biomarker testingHow the ACS's roundtables and grassroots partnerships support health systems, clinicians, and researchers nationwideDr. Kamal challenges us to think beyond science alone and focus on what really matters to patients—whether that's more time, better quality of life or simply the ability to hold a grandchild on the beach.Don't miss this conversation about how we turn precision medicine from a possibility into a promise—one rooted in empathy, equity and action.Subscribe here to catch every episode in the series "Bringing Precision Medicine to Everyone." Next, we explore the evolving world of liquid biopsy and its role in expanding access to early cancer detection and precision treatment.
Today's wars aren't just fought between armies on battlefields—they hit civilians the hardest. Women, in particular, bear the greatest burden, having to navigate daily survival while caring for their families, their communities, and themselves amid constant threats. What does it mean to live through a war with no clear end in sight? And why do we so rarely hear the voices of those who endure it?You'll have the chance to listen to powerful personal testimonies from journalist, producer, and filmmaker Ruwaida Kamal Amer from Gaza, and human rights defender Fatma Mohamed from Sudan. In this intimate interview, they share how armed conflict has reshaped their daily lives, relationships, and hopes for the future.Ruwaida speaks about surviving without electricity, food, or water, while still teaching children and writing poetry. Fatma describes the dire famine in Sudan, where the blockade of humanitarian aid has forced people to eat leaves or animal feed. Together, they reflect on what war has taken from them and what has helped them endure. This interview was conducted in October 2024 by documentary filmmaker Ivo Bystřičan. The podcast is presented by neuroscientist and science journalist Pavla Hubálková.
Pakistani women are increasingly pursuing legal avenues against acts of domestic violence. Their claims, however, are often dismissed through character allegations that label them as 'bad' women in need of control, or 'mad' women not to be trusted. Domestic Violence in Pakistan: The Legal Construction of 'Bad' and 'Mad' Women (Oxford University Press, 2025) by Dr. Daanika Kamal explores why the subjectivities of women victims are constructed in particular ways, and how these subjectivities are captured and negotiated in the Pakistani legal system.Drawing on feminist poststructuralist accounts relating to the use of gendering strategies in institutional and disciplinary settings and based on an analysis of over a hundred case files and judgements, seventy-two interviews, and court observations in three cities of Pakistan, this book shadows the experiences of women victims of domestic violence in both criminal law and family law proceedings. It captures and offers empirical insights in relation to gendered subject formation in discursive spaces; ranging from the use of societal narratives that minimise and silence women's harms, to the deployment of police mechanisms that assist in maintaining the 'secrecy' of familial violence, and the application and enactment of boilerplate lawyerly strategies to present alternative legal 'truths.'Amidst regulations of the public versus the private and understandings of rights versus duties, Domestic Violence in Pakistan explores how these practices construct the victim-subject of domestic violence in a way that not only subjectivise her, but also secure her within the field of that subjectification; setting her up to be viewed by the judiciary through the lens of the allegations applied to her. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Kamal is co-founder and CTO at Andromeda, which is building an identity management solution to help companies better understand their identity footprint and manage excessive permissions across disparate platforms. Kamal uses the term "digital incarnation" which resonated with me given the number of accounts a single human may have across different platforms. A Long Talk About the Uncomfortable Truth was developed by two black fathers in the wake of George Floyd's murder in May 2020, during a moment of national reckoning. There was a collective national and international outcry, but there was also a gap between intention and action. People wanted to help but didn't know where to start. In light of the Black Lives Matter movement, USRowing came to terms with its own limitations when it came to talking about – and taking action around – diversity, equity, and inclusion. A Long Talk gives space to have the conversations that people are afraid to have. They lead activation experiences designed to empower participants with knowledge and skills to interrupt problematic thinking and behaviors. Nigel Farage says he's coming for Labour voters, and he's bringing a bold new benefits policy with him. The Reform UK leader is promising to lift the two-child benefit cap and offer bigger tax breaks for married couples, in a direct pitch to working-class families.Speaking in central London, Farage claimed support for Labour is “collapsing” and challenged Sir Keir Starmer to a head-to-head debate in a northern working men's club. Kamal and Cleo were at the event to bring us the mood in the room and dissect what Farage's game play means for both Labour and the Tories.Plus, we're joined in the studio by shadow chancellor Mel Stride who says Farage's plans are “fantasy economics” that could put our economy at risk.We want to hear from you! Twenty-four hours after Keir Starmer announced a shift on fishing rights and closer alignment with the EU, the backlash has been fierce. Reform are already expecting to take seats from Labour in the next General Election thanks to the Brexit “reset” deal, with deputy leader Richard Tice accusing Starmer of having “surrendered the fishing industry” to the EU.On today's episode, Camilla and Kamal unpack the fallout from the Prime Minister's big “reset” and discuss the key moments from both his statement in Parliament and leader of the opposition Kemi Badenoch's fiery response as the Tories slip to fourth place behind Labour, Reform and the Lib Dems in a major poll. And it was one of Britain's biggest medical scandals. Thousands were infected with HIV and hepatitis through contaminated blood products in the 70s and 80s, including children at a specialist school called Treloar's. Camilla speaks to Richard Warwick, a survivor, and journalist and author Cara McGoogan ahead of a new ITV documentary on the scandal and why survivors still haven't had their compensation.Producers: Georgia CoanSenior Producer: John CadiganPlanning Editor: Venetia RaineyExecutive Producer: Louisa WellsSocial Media Producer: Ji-Min LeeVideo Editor: Valerie Browne Studio Operator: Meghan SearleEditor: Camilla TomineyOriginal music by Goss Studio Hosted on Acast. The Prime Minister has, in his words, struck a "win-win" deal with the European Union which will begin a "new era" in UK-EU relations, arguing that he's "delivering what the British public voted for last year".The big problem is that, by allowing EU boats access to UK fishing waters until 2038 and agreeing to align with EU food standards, Starmer seems to be ignoring what the British public actually voted for back in 2016.There's no doubt that this is another step moving the UK closer to the bloc - but are we now on a path back into the EU as many suspect Starmer would like? It's been a day of contrasting fortunes for Nigel Farage and Reform.First, the good: The Telegraph has revealed analysis that demonstrated how, if the recent local election results were repeated at the next national vote, Reform could wipe out Labour. Then, the bad: Farage barely had time to pop the champagne after that polling news when ex-Reform MP Rupert Lowe released a blistering attack, calling the Reform leader "a coward and a viper" who "must never be Prime Minister".With Lowe hinting at a potential new political party, will this latest row hurt Reform's chances just as the party builds momentum?Camilla and Kamal are joined by Sir Edward Leigh, veteran Tory MP and father of the house, who says that Farage "does have a history of falling out with everybody who comes too close to him or threatens him" but is doubtful that it will dent his popularity.Read: Reform could oust Miliband in Labour election wipeout, by Tony DiverListen: Ben Habib on The Daily TProducers: Georgia Coan and Lilian FawcettSenior Producer: John CadiganPlanning Editor: Venetia RaineyExecutive Producer: Louisa WellsSocial Media Producer: Rachel DuffyVideo Editor: Valerie BrowneStudio Operator: Meghan SearleEditor: Camilla TomineyOriginal music by Goss Studio Hosted on Acast. Keir Starmer has finally unveiled his long-awaited immigration white paper, vowing to bring down the numbers “significantly”. But despite the tough talk, there's still no cap on net migration. At a press conference, the Prime Minister set out plans to tighten the path to citizenship — including a ten-year wait and tougher English tests, insisting he was pursuing the crackdown because he believed it was the right thing to do rather than as a result of political pressure with the continued rise of Reform. But previous comments he has made on immigration say otherwise. So it this all just a political performance from Starmer?Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp joins Camilla and Kamal in the studio to explain why Labour are just tinkering around the edges of the issue and how the Tories would go further to fix Britain's “broken” immigration system. He also fronts up to the “serious mistakes” on immigration policy made by previous Conservative governments, but argues that Reform's proposals for net-zero immigration are “easy promises to make” that “aren't credible”Producers: Georgia Coan and Lilian FawcettSenior Producer: John CadiganPlanning Editor: Venetia RaineyExecutive Producer: Louisa WellsSocial Media Producer: Rachel DuffyVideo Editor: Andy MackenzieStudio Operator: Andy WatsonEditor: Camilla TomineyOriginal music by Goss Studio Hosted on Acast. Has Keir Starmer finally got something right? In a slightly awkward speaker phone press conference, the Prime Minister and President Donald Trump announced a new US-UK trade deal, dubbing today a “fantastic, historic day”. The deal will see the US removes tariffs on UK steel and aluminium, and cut car rate to 10%.In return, the UK government will remove the tariff on ethanol for US goods and agrees to “reciprocal market access on beef”. Camilla and Kamal look at the pros and cons of the “very great deal”.And as the Bank of England cuts interest rates - we'll be asking the shadow chancellor Mel Stride why this is actually bad news for his opposition Rachel Reeves. The UK and India have agreed to the terms of a free trade deal, set to be Britain's largest since Brexit. Yet, controversial tax breaks could exempt Indian migrants from paying National Insurance for the next three years, a move that critics are calling ‘pro-immigration'. And catholics wait for the sign of white smoke as cardinals gather behind the Vatican's closed doors to choose the next pope. Despite the unpredictability of the conclave, there are some candidates emerging as favourites with eleven main contenders and the chosen cardinal is widely expected to carry on Pope Francis's agenda of progressive politics when elected. Last week's local elections marked a turning point for Reform UK. Nigel Farage's party gained control of councils for the first time, picking up hundreds of seats, many in once-safe Conservative areas. And in a shock Westminster by-election, they even beat Labour to claim their fifth MP in Runcorn and Helsby. The current national share estimate puts Reform on 32% - with Labour down to 19% and the Conservatives on 18%. And as the two main parties continue to tank in the polls, we're already hearing rumours of a watering down of the winter fuel cut to save Labour votes - and the potential ousting of Kemi Badenoch as Tory Leader after disastrous results at the polls. Cricket legend Sir Geoffrey Boycott is one of the world's most famous sportsmen. The England test batsman was the man who could defend against the very best fast bowlers, score plenty of runs and give England a chance.Theresa May once described him as her political hero; gritty, digging in and getting the runs in the end. But last year he discovered his throat cancer, which he first battled in 2002, had come back, undergoing a three-hour operation to remove the cancerous tissue. In this special episode of The Daily T, Geoffrey Boycott joins Kamal and Telegraph Chief Cricket Correspondent Nick Hoult to discuss pontificating politicians, showman sportsmen and why he's 'absolutely sympathetic' to Esther Rantzen's arguments for assisted dying.Read: Sir Geoffrey Boycott: After everything I've been through, I wouldn't be against assisted dying, by Oliver Brown: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2025/05/03/geoffrey-boycott-politics-farage-starmer-cancer-nhs-health/Senior Producer: John CadiganPlanning Editor: Venetia RaineyExecutive Producer: Louisa WellsSocial Media Producer: Rachel DuffyStudio Operator: Meghan SearleVideo Editor: Andy MackenizeOriginal music by Goss Studio Hosted on Acast. Nigel Farage's Reform UK has had a breakthrough night at the local elections — making big gains in local councils, winning their first mayoralty in Greater Lincolnshire with Andrea Jenkyns, and snatching a knife-edge by-election victory in Runcorn and Helsby. The results have Reform celebrating, Labour licking its wounds, and the Conservatives turning on themselves, with one MP blasting leader Kemi Badenoch for "staying out of the limelight" after a dismal performance.Kamal and Camilla are joined by Reform's deputy leader Richard Tice to ask what this all means for the political landscape and if it is really a serious threat to the two-party system. And as Prince Harry loses a legal challenge over his security whilst in the UK, we ask what it means for his and his family's future in the country.Producer: Georgia Coan and Lilian FawcettPlanning Editor: Venetia RaineyExecutive Producer: Louisa WellsSocial Media Producer: Rachel DuffyStudio Operator: Meghan SearleVideo Editor: Andy MackenizeOriginal music by Goss Studio Hosted on Acast. Next week marks 80 years since VE Day — the end of the Second World War and the defeat of Nazi Germany. But in the shadow of that anniversary, and in the wake of the October 7th attacks, Holocaust denial is on the rise once again — fuelled by misinformation and conspiracy theories spreading online.Today on The Daily T, we look back at a landmark legal battle that confronted those lies head-on. It's been 25 years since David Irving sued historian Deborah Lipstadt for libel — and lost. The trial exposed him as a Holocaust denier and neo-Nazi sympathiser, in a courtroom showdown that made headlines around the world.Camilla and Kamal are joined in the studio by Lipstadt and the lawyer who helped her win the case, Anthony Julius, to reflect on what was at stake then, and what's at stake now.Producer: Georgia CoanPlanning Editor: Venetia RaineyExecutive Producer: Louisa WellsSocial Media Producer: Rachel DuffyStudio Operator: Meghan SearleVideo Editor: Andy MackenizeOriginal music by Goss Studio Hosted on Acast. 17 years of career experience 2nd generation Firefighter. A Captain on Engine 4 with Norfolk Fire/Rescue. Kamal had zero intentions of becoming a Firefighter. During his junior year in college things weren't working out. His father told him if his plans didn't make he was going to become a Firefighter. His first day in recruit school on a lunch break Kamal was not feeling the journey he was in. But his mother told him do it for at least one week then they can both evaluate it. Fast forward to today and obviously things worked out for Kamal. One of the main gems that stood out in this interview was the fact that all Kamal needed was for someone to believe and show him the route he needed to go which laid down the ground work to where is now. My favorite quote from Kamal is “No matter where you grew up or what you look like, If you want to do it there are avenues to do it.”IG: rock_and_kim_son
