After more than four decades of silence, Parabon Nanolabs and cutting-edge genetic genealogy are reigniting public interest in three men who were—separately and confusingly—all referred to as the ‘Freeway Killer': Patrick Kearney, William Bonin, and Randy Kraft. Kraft, convicted of 16 murders in California, is suspected of killing dozens more young men across the West Coast—often targeting Marines, hitchhikers, and teenagers. Many of his victims, if his infamous “scorecard” is to be believed, likely remain unidentified to this day.In this episode, we examine the recent identifications of Larry Eugene Parks and Michael Ray Schlict—both previously known only as John Does. Their cases, reopened thanks to advances in DNA technology and genetic genealogy, mirror the disturbing patterns seen in Randy Kraft's known crimes: victims hogtied, drugged, mutilated, and left near highways like I-5. We explore the haunting evidence that investigators believe may link Kraft to these cold cases—including personal belongings, drug traces, and the cryptic list of coded names that earned him his nickname: the “Scorecard Killer.”If you're drawn to forensic breakthroughs, unsolved murders, and the darkest corners of the 1970s and '80s true crime landscape, this case will stay with you.Visit our website! Her Close Call With Death A Ride with a Serial Killer. Story of Survival and Triumph. Special Episode. Imagine being a teenager, carefree and trusting, when a simple decision turns into a life altering ordeal. At the age of 17, she had a terrifying encounter that could have ended her life. What started as a normal day turned into a nightmare when the man began threatening her with torture, rape, and murder during the car ride. The life-and-death situation she found herself in was unimaginable, but Constance managed to escape before becoming one of his victims. The amazing interview with Constance Drew is available as a free podcast on our website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Years later, she and a friend were shocked to see his face plastered across the media, as the authorities identified him as a serial killer responsible for the deaths of multiple young women. Her story is not just about surviving but about what comes next—overcoming trauma, reclaiming her power, and building a life of purpose and success. The Aftermath and Her Journey to Success This close call with death was one of many pivotal moments for Constance. After narrowly escaping what could have been a fatal encounter, she chose not to let the experience define her in a negative way. Instead, it became a catalyst for change. Over time, she built a successful career as a business coach, motivational speaker, and author, using her personal story to inspire others. Her Close Call With Death A Ride with a Serial Killer. Her upcoming book, A Drive with a Serial Killer, details her harrowing experience, offering insight into her survival and resilience. Today, Constance coaches businesses and entrepreneurs, runs a podcast, and has become a powerful voice for women overcoming trauma and adversity. Serial Killers in the Spotlight Constance's story taps into the horrifying reality of serial killers—predators who prey on the vulnerable. Her encounter occurred during a period when serial killers like the infamous “Santa Rosa Hitchhiker Murders” terrorized California. Between 1972 and 1973, a series of unsolved homicides shook Sonoma County, California. Young female hitchhikers were found murdered in rural areas, their bodies dumped near creek beds and roadsides. Despite extensive investigations, many of these cases remain unsolved, and the perpetrator of these crimes was never definitively identified. These chilling murders are believed to be the work of a serial killer who scouted his victims before killing them. The stories of these young women—Maureen Louise Sterling, Yvonne Lisa Weber, Kim Wendy Allen, and many others—serve as a reminder of how vulnerable women were during that era of hitchhiking. Unfortunately, serial killers like Constance's assailant often went unidentified for years, leaving devastation in their wake. The Dark History of Serial Killers, Her Close Call With Death A Ride with a Serial Killer. Story of Survival and Triumph. Listen to this interview as a free podcast on our website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. While the existence of serial killers is relatively rare, their impact on society is immense. Across U.S. history, names like Robert Lee Yates, Chester Turner, and Randy Steven Kraft have become synonymous with horror. These men committed heinous crimes against women, leaving trails of devastation. Yates was responsible for 13 murders, while Turner's count reached 14, and Kraft, known as the “Scorecard Killer,” was convicted of 16 murders but believed to have killed as many as 67. Each of these men had their own horrifying modus operandi, whether it was dumping bodies in rural areas, like Yates, or keeping a scorecard of his victims like Kraft. Then there's Robert Hansen, who hunted his victims in the Alaskan wilderness, and Randall Woodfield, known as the “I-5 Killer,” who terrorized women across three states. These predators left law enforcement scrambling for answers, leading to years of investigation and public fear. Understanding the Mind of a Serial Killer. Keep informed by following the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, MeWe, Pinterest, Newsbreak, Medium and other social media platforms. The motives behind these horrific crimes are often psychological. Some serial killers are driven by sexual sadism, while others exhibit compulsive behaviors that they can't control. In some cases, like those involving Randy Kraft, there are clear signs of ritualistic killing patterns. Serial murderers such as Charles Ray Hatcher and Carroll Cole admitted that they often committed their crimes while intoxicated, further complicating efforts to understand their mental states. For law enforcement, the process of tracking down serial killers is grueling and complex. The FBI and other agencies have spent decades attempting to unravel the psychological profiles of these criminals, from the infamous Jack the Ripper to the BTK Killer. Yet, even with modern forensic tools, many of these cases remain unsolved, leaving families without closure. Constance's Story an Inspiration from Survival. My special guest tonight is author Dennis McDougal who stops by to discuss serial killer Randy Kraft and how targeted gay men.   Randy Kraft was highly intelligent, politically active, loyal to his friends, committed to his work--and the killer of 67 people--more than any other serial killer known.    Randy Steven Kraft (born March 19, 1945) is an American serial killer and rapist known as the Scorecard Killer, the Southern California Strangler, and the Freeway Killer,[4] who committed the rape, torture, and murder of a minimum of sixteen young men between 1972 and 1983, the majority of whom he killed in California. Kraft is also believed to have committed the rape and murder of up to fifty-one other young men and boys. He was convicted in May 1989[5] and is currently incarcerated on death row at San Quentin State Prison in Marin County, California.[6] Kraft became known as the "Scorecard Killer" because upon his arrest, investigators discovered a coded list with 61 entries on a scorecard containing cryptic references to his victims;[7] he is also sometimes referred to as the "Freeway Killer" because many of his victims' bodies were discovered beside or near freeways.[8] Kraft shares the latter epithet with two separate and unrelated serial killers, William Bonin and Patrick Kearney.   Between 1971 and 1983, Kraft is believed to have killed 67 victims. All of his suspected victims were males between the ages of 13 and 35,[13][35] the majority of whom were in their late teens to mid-twenties. Kraft was charged with—and convicted of—sixteen of these homicides, all of which had occurred between 1972 and 1983. Many of his victims were members of the United States Marines Corps,[36] and most of their bodies were found to have high levels of both alcohol and tranquilizers, indicating they had been unconscious when they were abused and killed.[37] Kraft's victims were typically lured into his vehicle with an offer of a lift or alcohol. Once in Kraft's vehicle, the victims would be plied with alcohol and/or other drugs. They were then bound, tortured, and sexually abused before they were killed, usually by either strangulation, asphyxiation, or bludgeoning. However, some victims had also ingested lethal doses of pharmaceuticals. At least one victim was stabbed to death.[38] The victims would then be discarded, usually—though not exclusively—alongside or close to various freeways in southern California. Photographic evidence found at Kraft's home indicates several of his victims were driven to his house before their murder.[39] Many of the victims were burned with a car cigarette lighter, usually around the genitals, chest, and face, and several were found with extensive blunt force trauma to the face and head.[40] In several instances, foreign objects were found inserted into the victims' rectums, while other victims had suffered emasculation, or mutilation and dismemberment.[41] The majority of Kraft's murders were committed in California, although some victims had been killed in Oregon, with two further known victims murdered in Michigan in December 1982.Follow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle StoriesJoin our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.Follow us on Instagram @mysteriousradioFollow us on TikTok mysteriousradioTikTok Follow us on Twitter @mysteriousradio Follow us on Pinterest pinterest.com/mysteriousradio Like us on Facebook Facebook.com/mysteriousradio

In the early hours of May 14, 1983, two California Highway Patrol officers pulled over a suspected drunk driver on the San Diego Freeway in Mission Viejo, California. Instead of staying in his vehicle, the driver jumped out, pouring the contents of a beer bottle onto the road as he exited. His disheveled appearance caught the officers' attention as he approached their patrol car. The officers asked for the man's driver's license, and he readily admitted that he had been drinking beer, but he claimed to be sober. Sergeant Michael Howard approached the vehicle and noticed a man slumped in the passenger's seat, partially obscured by a jacket, with empty beer bottles strewn around his feet. A folding knife was visible on the driver's seat. Howard tapped on the window, but there was no response. The man was unconscious and had no shoes on. His pants were unzipped, with his genitals hanging out of his pants. The officer attempted to find a pulse, but there was none. A closer look at the man indicated that the man had been strangled. This standard DUI arrest just changed to murder, but this is far from the only murder this man would commit. Join Jen and Cam of ‘Our True Crime Podcast' as we discuss “The Scorecard Killer: Randy Kraft.”Listener discretion is by the talented @octoberpodVHSAll music is by our executive producer @theinkypawprintSources:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_of_Darkness_(book)https://www.investigationdiscovery.com/crimefeed/serial-killer/the-scorecard-killer-southern-california-man-may-have-murdered-as-many-as-67-victimshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Kraft#Conviction_and_incarcerationhttps://randykraft.com/the-victims/https://latimes.newspapers.com/article/the-los-angeles-times-randy-kraft/138310135/?locale=en-UShttps://skdb.fandom.com/wiki/KRAFT_Randy_Stevenhttps://inmagazine.ca/2022/03/queer-crime-was-serial-killer-randy-kraft-wrongly-convicted/https://www.reddit.com/r/serialkillers/comments/15wby08/all_randy_krafts_victims_suspected_connected_and/https://www.ranker.com/list/randy-kraft-facts/christinatedescohttp://maamodt.asp.radford.edu/Psyc%20405/serial%20killers/Kraft,%20Randy%20_spring%202007_.pdfhttps://www.foxnews.com/us/iowa-teen-identified-victim-scorecard-killer-randy-kraft-nearly-50-yearshttps://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/ca-supreme-court/1402694.htmlhttps://www.allgaylong.com/blog/randy-kraft-the-sadistic-scorecard-killer/https://bonlinetr.unionjill.org/content?c=scorecard+killer&id=12https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-11-29/scorecard-killer-victim-identified-michael-ray-schlicht-orange-county-randy-krafthttps://longbeachize.com/articles/the-disturbing-creepy-history-of-long-beachs-scorecard-killer-randy-kraft/https://www.ocregister.com/2023/11/28/after-49-years-orange-county-investigators-id-a-presumed-victim-of-serial-killer-randy-kraft/https://www.investigationdiscovery.com/crimefeed/serial-killer/the-scorecard-killer-southern-california-man-may-have-murdered-as-many-as-67-victimshttps://randykraft.com/

Decades-Long Mystery Solved: 1974 Murder Victim in Southern California Identified as Michael Ray Schlicht

After nearly half a century of uncertainty, the Orange County Sheriff's Department has revealed a breakthrough in the case of a murdered teenager found in Southern California in 1974. Through the use of investigative genetic genealogy, authorities have identified the victim as Michael Ray Schlicht, bringing renewed attention to a case that may link him to notorious serial killer Randy Kraft.    On September 14, 1974, the lifeless body of a young man was discovered, and at the time, his cause of death was tragically attributed to accidental alcohol and diazepam intoxication. However, this tragic story took a darker turn in 1980 when investigators noted multiple homicides in 1978 with similar intoxication causes of death. These victims were found within close proximity to Schlicht's location, yet he remained unidentified, known only as "John Doe."    Randy Kraft, infamously labeled "The Scorecard Killer," was arrested during a routine traffic stop in 1983, where police found a deceased man in the passenger seat amid beer bottles and lorazepam tablets. Kraft would later be convicted in 1989 of 16 murders in Southern California, and authorities suspect his involvement in up to 60 deaths between 1972 and 1983. The gruesome details of his crimes, which included torture, sexual assault, and mutilation, earned him his chilling moniker.    Despite his conviction, Kraft has remained on death row at San Quentin State Prison. However, the discovery of tissue samples from Schlicht's unidentified remains brought renewed hope for answers. These samples were submitted to a laboratory to construct a DNA profile. After months of diligent genealogy work, investigators successfully traced the lineage to Schlicht's grandparents.    Authorities then reached out to a granddaughter of the grandparents, who disclosed that she had last seen her brother, Michael Ray Schlicht, in April 1974 when he was just 17 years old. To confirm this revelation, investigators journeyed to Kansas City to obtain a DNA sample from Schlicht's mother, which ultimately led to the positive identification of the once enigmatic "John Doe."    The Orange County Sheriff's Department has reclassified Schlicht's death as a homicide, reopening a case that had long remained unsolved. The investigation is ongoing as authorities delve into the circumstances surrounding Schlicht's murder and his potential connection to Randy Kraft's reign of terror.    This discovery not only brings closure to Schlicht's family after decades of uncertainty but also raises questions about other unsolved cases from that era that may be linked to Kraft. As investigators continue their work, they remain committed to seeking justice for the victims and their families.    The identification of Michael Ray Schlicht is a testament to the power of modern forensic techniques and the dedication of law enforcement in pursuing justice, even after many years have passed. On this episode we talk about one of the most prolific and brutal killers in US history and a guy who got his moniker The Scorecard Killer from a macabre list of nicknames he had for his many victims; this episode is all about Randy Kraft. Joining me on this episode is comedian Ger Staunton; international comedy powerhouse and fellow Mayo man :) Ger and I discuss these heinous crimes and what drives someone to commit such horrific sexual attacks on so many young men. Craft operated in the prolific serial killer atmosphere of the 70s and 80s where it seemed all bets were off for catching murderers. There is estimates of up to 70 victims that Kraft cruelly dispatched but he was only found guilty for very few of these; and we discuss the ones we know about here. Acknowledgment to Murder, Murder, Murder (dot) com and Dennis McDougal author of Angel of Darkness for the nitty gritty on this one. In the late 1970's as the post-war wave of violent crime headed towards its peak, dead bodies mostly of young men and boys began to litter the sides of the California freeway in droves. The police knew two distinct killers at least were responsible. One of them, William Bonin, drove a van and had accomplices the other, Randy Kraft, often jettisoned bodies while traveling at high speeds, hundreds of miles on the coast sometimes inland. This was but the forming crest of the deadly wave. As the wave began to crest the killer duo template pioneered by the Hillside Stranglers became imitated by even worse duos, most infamously Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris

This week we investigate the life and crimes of one of the Freeway Killers. Patrick Kearney, the Trash Bag Killer, was convicted for 21 murders, confessed to 32, but is suspected of up to 43 killings of both boys and young men between 1962 and 1977 in Southern California. Lesser known then the other Freeway Killers, previous Suck subjects Randy "Scorecard Killer" Kraft and William "The Freeway Strangler" Bonin, Patrick Kearney at first appears less brutal than his murderous counterparts. And in a way he was. He never tortured his victims... while they were alive. His primary motivation seems to have been necrophilia. But in another way, he was worse than the other two killers, because his victims tended to be younger. One victim was only five years old. Another depraved serial killer chapter is written in Timesuck's book of true crime today. Wet Hot Bad Magic Summer Camps are ON SALE!  BadMagicMerch.com Bad Magic Productions Monthly Patreon Donation: We're giving $14,533 to The Museum of Tolerance - the only museum of its kind in the world, and an additional $1,614  to the scholarship fund this month. Most now assume he killed at least 67 victims. And he did so horrifically. A true sexual sadist, Randy targeted young men and boys from 1971 to 1983, removing the genitals of many of his victims BEFORE killing them. Today we cover his life from the beginning to sitting in a prison cell in San Quentin today. The Scorecard Killer still refuses to take responsibility for the many horrific crimes he committed. And his crimes were truly horrific. In addition to emasculation, Randy cut, burned, and used foreign objects to sodomize victim after victim before strangling most of them. And no one in personal life, before he was caught, seemed to think he was capable of any violence. Bad Magic Productions Monthly Patreon Donation:  The Bad Magic Charity for August Camp Easton, where we will be hosting our 2022 Wet Hot Bad Magic Summer Camp. This lil bad boy killed at least sixteen people, but likely dozens more, as an extensive scorecard with victims codenames was found in his trunk after he was pulled over with his meat out as he partied with a corpse.
