In this episode of Chorus in the Chaos, Blake and Jack continue their Ten Commandments series with an engaging discussion on the Third Commandment: 'You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.' Often reduced to avoiding profanity, this commandment carries profound implications about reverence, worship, and the weight of our words. We dive into: - The cultural normalization of phrases like 'OMG' and how they impact our reverence for God. - Why professing faith without living it dishonors God's name. - Examples of blasphemy include flippant speech, misuse of Scripture, and irreverent worship. - Biblical wisdom from Exodus 20:7, Titus 1:16, and more. - Practical ways to honor God's name in our everyday lives.   For a limited time, The Chorus in the Chaos listeners get 10% off their purchase at Reformation Heritage Books! Send us a textIn this final episode on how the Holy Spirit works today, Arnie and Fred begin discussing the source of our understanding of what the Bible says. We look at both Old and New Testament passages to see what some scriptures say about this. We find the New Testament mentioning sanctification in a number of places. We talk about this word, what it means and how this is done. We note that the Holy Spirit even though He is God, He can still be resisted. How this is done is looked at. Some are surprised that the Holy Spirit can be grieved. We talk about how this is possible and what can cause this. In a very short verse, Paul tells the Christians in Thessalonica, "Quench not the Spirit".  Again, we look at a number of passages that show how it is possible that an individual can quench the Spirit. Many are familiar with what Jesus said about blaspheming the Holy Spirit. We note what the Bible says about how this is done. We have a short discussion about what Jesus said about the hour that was coming when all that are in the graves would hear His voice and be resurrected and how what Paul wrote to the Roman Christians is connected to this. We close out this episode talking about what the judgment will be based upon; what standard will be used. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcription of this Buzzsprout episode provided for your convenience.

Jesus is confronted with a situation where He heals a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute. The Pharisees, seeing this miracle, accuse Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons. The Pharisees are spiritually blind. The pharisees in their religious pride and self-righteousness, are unable to recognize the work of the Holy Spirit in Jesus' ministry. These men slander the work of the Holy Spirit by attributing it to Satan. They do this despite the clear working of God in their midst. So they willfully, and consciously attribute the work of the Holy Spirit to Satan. The "unpardonable sin" is not a specific act but an ongoing, hardened stance of slandering the work of the Spirit when the Spirit's work is overwhelming evident. The seriousness of this sin is attributing God's work to evil, showing how it reflects a heart that is closed off to the Spirit's transformative power.

The Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus, usually represented by the Shroud of Turin image of the face of Jesus, was started by a lesser-known Carmelite nun from the middle of the nineteenth century. It is Church-approved and based on her private revelations. With a focus on the evils of Communism and atheism, it is especially relevant even in our world today.

Jesus told the Pharisees and teachers of the law in Matthew 12, that "every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven." Because of that statement, many have come to refer to "blaspheming the Holy Spirit" as "the unforgivable sin." But what exactly does it mean to blaspheme the Holy Spirit? Is it possible that we have done it unintentionally, and in so doing, disqualified ourselves from forgiveness?Questions like this have led many people to view this passage through a lens of fear. In this message from our series on the Holy Spirit, Brock digs in to what Jesus was getting at when he made this incredibly bold statement against the religious elite of his day.

Jesus was accused by the religious leaders of being possessed by Satan. Jesus was hot and he was hurt by their accusations and he let them know it by telling them that all sin and blasphemy will be forgiven but there is one sin that will NOT be forgiven…blaspheming the Holy Spirit. If blaspheming the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, then we better know what it is so we don't do it! We discuss it in today's podcast.

The Rev. Ben Maton, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlottesville, Virginia, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Mark 3:7-35. As Jesus and his disciples withdraw near the Sea of Galilee, huge crowds follow from all over. Jesus heals the sick and casts out demons while reminding people not to make him known for his time had not yet come. He appoints the twelve disciples, granting them authority to preach and cast out demons. Meanwhile, teachers of the law from Jerusalem accuse Jesus of working by the power of Satan rather than the Spirit of God. Jesus warns his hearers against blaspheming the Holy Spirit and reminds them that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. Beneath the fast-paced action of Jesus' ministry in the Gospel of Mark lies a profound theological message: we are all in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. Though Jesus performs mighty deeds and calls people to repent, they repeatedly fail to understand his true identity and mission. Even his disciples abandon him in his darkest hour. Yet Jesus willingly suffers and dies on the cross as a ransom for many, accomplishing what we could not do ourselves - securing our justification before God. Mark presents Jesus not just as a miracle worker but as the divine Savior whose atoning sacrifice makes salvation possible for lost sinners.

The Living Waters Podcast

In today's episode, the guys discuss the Blaspheming of the Holy Spirit, which means that you create a horrible, heinous sin. Mark 3:28-29 states, “Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” This states that whoever sins against the Lord will never be forgiven. This view has been held throughout history, but many people still believe this, especially in the Catholic Church. They also discuss dispensationalists, which believe that God works in special, specific ways at certain times in history. Many people are worried they denied Christ and therefore, won't be saved. However, the Bible gives us examples of people who did commit great sins like Peter, David, and Paul, but all three have been forgiven and will be in heaven.  Next, they talk about the four different types of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit that people believe. First, they talk about believing false things about the spirit. If you believe false truths about the Spirit, then that's also blasphemy toward the Spirit. This is too general, and many Christians have false beliefs, but through sanctification they get a right understanding with God. Another view of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is decisively rejecting a clear truth that the Spirit has revealed about Jesus and His mighty works. They clarify that one cannot claim ignorance, but it is a constant, persistent, lifelong rejection of Christ until death—even going so far as to saying He has demonic origins. The guys say if you are worried that you committed blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, then you probably haven't, because the people who have are the ones who don't care. Blaspheming the Holy Spirit is not accidental—it is deliberate.  Lastly, the guys discuss how to naturally talk about God in our conversations and friendships. There is often a yearning to connect with other Christians and talk about God, but it cannot begin without starting individually. They suggest being proactive about surrounding yourself with other Christians; even just asking someone what they are reading right now in the Word can open up conversation. They also recommend to always have someone in your life who is discipling you, someone who you yourself are discipling, and someone to encourage you. Thanks for listening!
