Track intro has brief background on this delightfully funny and cleverly written 15 min comedy series that ran 15 years. First aired on WBBM in Chicago and moving to CBS in March of 1932. Then to NBC Blue in 1935 and finally back to CBS in 1942. The characters simply played as though they were allowing listeners to eavesdrop on their own real-life conversations... this allowed their audience to feel like the "Aces" could actually be their own neighbors. The Six Shooter is a United States western old-time radio program starring James Stewart as a gunfighter. It was created by Frank Burt, who also wrote many of the episodes, and lasted only one season of thirty-nine episodes on NBC (Sept. 20, 1953–June 24, 1954). Initially, it was broadcast on Sundays at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time, through October 11. Then it was heard at 8:30 p.m. for three weeks. Finally, on November 8, 1953, through March 21, 1954, it was broadcast Sundays at 8 p.m. Beginning April 1, 1954, through the final episode it was on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. One old-time radio directory called the program "a last, desperate effort by a radio network (NBC) to maintain interest in adventure drama by employing a major Hollywood movie star in the leading role." Stewart starred as Britt Ponset, a drifting cowboy in the final years of the wild west. Episodes ranged from straight western drama to whimsical comedy. A trademark of the show was Stewart's use of whispered narration during tense scenes that created a heightened sense of drama and relief when the situation was resolved. Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, affectionately known as TP or Gildy is owner of Gildersleeve Girdle works and onetime neighbor of Fibber McGee and bearer of an inimitable dirty laugh! In this first episode of “The Great Gildersleeve we see the departure of TP from his home town Wistful Vista to Summerfield. On the train journey TP enters into a disagreement with a man over a lower berth and it later turns out that the man in question is Judge Horace Hooker. Here begins a wonderfully comic relationship of feuds and arguments! Duration: 33:51 Starring: Harold Peary Broadcast Date: 16th May 1941
Musical Credit for Hillbilly Soul Sista Promo Hillbilly Swing by Kevin MacLeod Link: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/5705-hillbilly-swing License: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ The Great Gildersleeve (1941-1957), initially written by Leonard Lewis Levinson, was one of broadcast history's earliest spin-off programs. Built around Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a character who had been a staple on the classic radio situation comedy Fibber McGee and Molly, The Great Gildersleeve enjoyed its greatest success in the 1940s. Actor Harold Peary played the character during its transition from the parent show into the spin-off and later in a quartet of feature films released at the height of the show's popularity. On Fibber McGee and Molly, Peary's Gildersleeve was a pompous windbag who became a consistent McGee nemesis. "You're a haa-aa-aa-aard man, McGee!" became a Gildersleeve catch phrase. The character was given several conflicting first names on Fibber McGee and Molly, and on one episode his middle name was revealed as Philharmonic. Gildy admits as much at the end of "Gildersleeve's Diary" on the Fibber McGee and Molly series (10/22/40). He soon became so popular that Kraft Foods - looking primarily to promote its Parkay margarine spread - sponsored a new series with Peary's Gildersleeve as the central, slightly softened, and slightly befuddled focus of a lively new family.
On April 9th, 1948 actress Shirley Booth recorded an audition for a new show to be entitled, Our Miss Brooks. Booth turned the part down, feeling that the script wasn't funny enough. When the part was later offered to Eve Arden, Arden agreed. The pilot script Arden later recorded is an edited version of this Booth audition.

This show, the Martin and Lewis audition show, featured Bob Hope as their special guest. It's obvious while listening that the producers hadn't quite figured out what to do with the boys yet. But it's also obvious the boys more than made up for that with their raw talent and energy.
This show, starring James Stewart as Britt Ponsit, only ran for one season and featured a totally different approach to the western yarn. Supposedly a gunman, Britt almost never actually draws his gun. Instead, he lets his reputation do most of the talking and uses his brains in every other case. James Stewart plays the part with a great deal of humor and tries to bring realism to the role, without going overboard.

The Golden Age of Radio was ending, not with a whimper, but with a robust bang. Many of the best network and syndicated shows began in the 1950s, even though public interest and advertising dollars were switching to television, FORT LARAMIE was certainly one of the finest radio series, and were it not for GUNSMOKE, it could be termed the best adult Western program ever aired. FORT LARAMIE is a close relative of GUNSMOKE since it had the same producer-director, same writers, same sound effects men, and many of the same actors. GUNSMOKE had been running for almost four years when Norman Macdonnell brought FORT LARAMIE to CBS. The latter had the same gritty realism, attention to detail, and integrity that audiences admired in GUNSMOKE.
