A Sign of Affection on Suu Morishitan romanssisarja, joka kertoo kuulovammaisesta tytöstä ja paljon ulkomailla matkustelevasta pojasta. Ajankohtaisina aiheina puhumme siitä, miten belgialainen taiteilija teki koko One Piece -sarjasta yksiin kansiin painetun taideteoksen, Spy × Familyn kustannustoimittajan haastattelusta sekä siitä, miten erilaisilla tavoilla mangaa tehdään työpareina, tiimeinä ja yhteistyössä. Lukujonossa aloitamme Shuzo Oshimin sarjan Blood on the Tracks, jossa yläkoululaispoika alkaa tajuta rakastavan ja ylisuojelevaisen äitinsä olevan mieleltään järkkynyt sosiopaatti. --- Kommentoi | Twitter | Instagram --- - Science Fiction Bokhandeln Tukholmassa - Tokyo Revengers ja Heaven Official's Blessing esillä kaupan paraatipaikalla oven edessä (kuva) - Svensk Bokhandelnin artikkeli mangan menestyksestä ja Ruotsin uudesta mangajulkaisija Idegrenistä - I Swear I Won't Bother You Again! On this episode of Manga Mavericks, Colton & Lum are joined by David from the Shonen Flop podcast for what is possibly the biggest trial of the century! As they will have to argue why Gakkyu Hotei (aka School Judgment) is one of, if not the worst manga they have ever covered on the show!! Gakkyu Hotei being a series written by Nobuaki Enoki and illustrated by Takeshi Obata (also known as the artist of both Death Note & Bakuman), centered in a world where Japanese grade schools are corrupted to the point where the government creates the School Judgment System! Where elementary school students can take their grievances and discuss them during Classroom Arbitration sessions! Trials for children by children! With the series' protagonist and defense attorney, Abaku Inugami, solving all kinds of cases ranging from who dismembered the classroom pet to figuring out the identity of local snack (NOT DRUG) dealers, all while getting closer to finding out who murdered his old classmates on that fateful day known as the Bloody Classroom Session!! Now you might be saying to yourself, "Huh, that doesn't sound too bad!", but trust us, its not only mostly mediocre, but also contains a lot of weird, creepy choices that Enoki himself is a little too boastful about and proud of. What are those choices, you ask? Enter the court and find out!! So next week we will just have 2 characters for that. If you have any comments, thoughts or advice, or suggestions for manga to read, please comment below to help us improve the podcast!

They begin with Kazuto Tatsuta's Ichi-F: A Worker's Graphic Memoir of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant (Kodansha Comics). This is a 500+ page account of the reconstruction and cleanup in the wake of 2011's disaster in Fukushima. As the guys discuss, the text does two things at once: provides objective reportage of the situation surrounding Fukushima and reveals the author's very personal experiences in securing and maintaining his role in the cleanup efforts. While both guys enjoyed the book, perhaps Derek more than Shea, they nonetheless wondered about Tatsuta's background as a mangaka -- "Kazuto Tatsuta" is a nom de plume, so it's difficult to determine any bibliography -- and any potential agenda (if any) underlying this work. After their focus on real-world disaster, the guys move into the realm of fantasy. Platinum End (VIZ Media) is a current shōnen series from Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, the same team behind Bakuman and Death Note. The second English-language volume was just released this month, so the guys have enough story under their belts to get a secure feel for the art and narrative. As Derek explains, the premise appears a little on the hokey side, at least at first, but as things develop the story begins to take on a life of its own, one that soon hooks you. Much of this is because of Obata's style, but there are also larger thematic issues that make this title worth exploring. The guys discourse over the text's theological import, its engagement with gender identity, and its satiric commentary on contemporary popular culture. This is definitely a series that both Shea and Derek will continue reading.
