Today, Larissa shares her review of The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones, a chilling historical horror novel set in the American West. “A diary, written in 1912 by a Lutheran pastor, is discovered within a wall. What it unveils is a slow massacre, a chain of events that go back to 217 Blackfeet dead in the snow. Told in transcribed interviews by a Blackfeet named Good Stab, who shares the narrative of his peculiar life over a series of confessional visits.” Find this title in the FVRL collection: https://fvrl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S21C1952613

“The Buffalo Hunter Hunter,” by Stephen Graham Jones, is two things at once: a searching historical novel that examines America's past sins and also a gory horror thriller. The book opens in 2012, when a construction worker in a dilapidated church parsonage finds a 100-year-old journal written by a pastor named Arthur Beaucarne. The journal recounts a strange tale: In 1912, a mysterious Indigenous man, Good Stab of the Blackfeet tribe, walked into Arthur's church and revealed the harrowing and disturbing story of how he had been transformed into a vampire who sought revenge for the violence done unto his people. In this Halloween episode of the Book Review Book Club, the host MJ Franklin discusses “The Buffalo Hunter Hunter” with his colleagues Gilbert Cruz and Joumana Khatib. Other books and movies mentioned during this discussion:“Dracula,” by Bram Stoker“Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil,” by V.E. Practiced, embodied mindfulness—not perfection or more willpower. In this episode, I'm joined by Hunter Clarke-Fields, MSAE, RYT—international bestselling author of Raising Good Humans, creator of the Mindful Parenting course & teacher training, and host of the Mindful Mama podcast. A former “parenting yeller” turned mindfulness teacher with 20+ years of practice, Hunter has been featured on CNBC, NBC, FOX, HuffPost, Tiny Buddha, MOPS, and more. Her mission: help caregivers and kids live more mindfully and compassionately—without shame, rigidity, or 2-hour morning routines. We're diving into: ✔️ Mindfulness 101: what it really is (and how to practice it in 1–5 minutes, not just 20) ✔️ The neuroscience: shrinking amygdala reactivity, strengthening your prefrontal cortex (hello impulse control + clarity) ✔️ How to close the “I know better” → “I do better” gap with tiny, repeatable reps (not more information) ✔️ Practical tools to grow the pause before you snap—so you can respond instead of reactIf you've been trying to “think your way” to calmer parenting while your nervous system is sprinting the other direction, this one's for you.

Hunter Hunter, now streaming on Shudder, written and directed by Shawn Linden, is a minimalist, practical effects shocker of a wilderness film we absolutely loved. The film follows a family living in the remote wilderness as fur trappers. Their tranquility is threatened when they think they are being hunted by the return of a rogue wolf, and the father leaves them behind to track it. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/grimandbloody/support

Hello, dear listeners!   I wanted to give you all an update about the show. To whit: I'm taking a bit of a break. The last five seasons have been incredible, and season six has been and will continue to be.   Tales from the Trunk is in no way ending. We will be back on September 20th, when I'll be talking to T. Kingfisher.   In the mean time, here are some of the things that I have been enjoying from the wider media landscape:   A podcast: Friends at the Table – their eighth season, Palisade, is coming to a close right now, and it has been a Ride. A book: Bury Your Gays, by Chuck Tingle – you already know how much I loved Camp Damascus, and it should come as no surprise that the good doctor's follow-up is every bit as incredible. A TV show: Hunter × Hunter (2011) – Just a fantastic shōnen anime. And a musical twofer: Chappel Roan – come on. I'm queer. She writes good pop hooks. Suggested tracks: “Pink Pony Club” and “My Kink is Karma” Porter Robinson – if you like bouncy but also emotional EDM, give him a go. Suggested tracks: “Knock Yourself Out XD” and “Shelter”   Thanks again for your support over the years, and I look forward to returning in two months with even more amazing interviews with incredible guests.

Actress Camille Sullivan has acquired a boatload of awards and nominations over the course of her career for her work in an array of dramatic projects like Intelligence, Hunter Hunter, The Birdwatcher, and The Disappearance, but it's her work in a top-rated comedy series that's currently garnering her mad love from critics, fans, industry insiders, and the fine people of TikTok. The series in question is Shoresy, a spin-off of Jared Keeso and Jacob Tierney's beloved comedy series, Letterkenny. Shoresy – which recently finished airing its third season and is lacing up for a fourth – follows the foul-mouthed, chirp-serving, mother-loving, fan favourite character from Letterkenny named Shoresy as he joins the Sudbury Bulldogs in a quest to never lose again. Camille is Laura Mohr, a reporter who covers the Bulldogs as part of her beat. Shoresy lights up like a Christmas tree whenever he lays eyes on Laura. It's adorable how the normally shit-talking Shoresy is so sweet and earnest during these interactions, and it's so much fun to watch Camille as Laura react with sparkling eyes, mild frustration, bemusement, and (mostly) committed to keeping professional boundaries intact. Camille can also be seen kicking all sorts of emotional ass in thrillers like Exile with Adam Beach, which is now on VOD, and will soon be seen in the highly anticipated Shelby Oaks, which will screen at the venerable Fantasia Film Festival this summer. In this funny and fascinating interview, Camille talks Shoresy, being a loner, acting in highly dramatic movies, why she doesn't miss auditioning in “the room,” and her dream to be the Nicolas Cage of Canada. This episode is a continuation of our last episode with actor Devon Sawa as we continue to discuss overlooked or under-seen genre films. As a quick recap, Devon is one of the stars of the 2020 hinterland horror “Hunter Hunter”. When the film came out the pandemic cost it the opportunity to play festivals or have a premiere and sadly, the movie didn't get nearly the attention it deserves. It's a smart, taught, shocking film and one hopes in time more people will discover it.In this episode we are joined by the films writer and director, Shawn Linden.Shawn and I discuss the major influence of dark 80's fantasy classics such as "The Secret of NIMH" and "The Dark Crystal", the many hurdles he faced getting “Hunter Hunter” into production, how killing characters the audience expects to see save the day is effectively destabilizing and oddly not done enough and why audiences are far more comfortable seeing humans get killed on screen than non-human animals.Let's explore the savage and stark world of “Hunter Hunter” with filmmaker Shawn Linden! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

The holidays have come and gone and it's a new year and we're back at it, bringing you intimate one on one sit downs with the most exciting voices in horror.2023 was a fantastic year for horror and 2024 doesn't look to be slowing down so though the New Year is often a time for looking forward at what's to come, it's also a time for reflection. This season we will be spotlighting some of the genres great entires that you may have missed or that for a number of reasons (a global pandemic for example) didn't get attention they so deserved. The first film we're going to delve into is the gripping and gutting 2020 film “Hunter Hunter” by filmmaker Shawn Linden.“Hunter Hunter”, a raw and unforgiving survival story about a family living isolated in the wilderness, who begin to think they are being stalked by a rogue wolf but soon come to find it's something far more terrifying, is a stark and nuanced genre film. Sadly, the pandemic robbed it of the ability to have a film festival run  (so important for indie films) and when the film was released in 2020, despite plenty of strong reviews from the critics, it came and went with not nearly enough notice.I think it's one of the best genre films of the last decade and deserved much much better. With a stellar cast and taught lean direction, the film is equal parts terrifying survival story and intimate character work.In this episode, I am joined by one of the stars of the film and one of the genres most beloved leading men. In our next episode, we will be talking with the films director, Shawn Linden. Our guest today has been acting since he was a child and over the years, has become a horror household name having starred in films such as “Idle Hands”, “Final Destination”, “Black Friday” and the series starring everyones favourite Good Guy “Chucky”.When I started this show I had a list of people I knew I wanted to talk to. People that have made major contributions to the genre. We've been fortunate enough to get to speak with most of those people but this actor was always right at the top of the list.In today's episode, we are joined by Devon Sawa. Now most listeners of the show will be aware that our guests are generally joining us remotely but I had the great pleasure to sit down with Devon in person. We first me while he was attending the awesome horror convention “Frightmare in the Falls” in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada and at a later date we recorded our talk in a restaurant so you will hear a bit more background than usual.Devon is a lovely guy. Warm and open and generous with his stories and insights. We discussed the ups and downs of a being a teen heartthrob, why he veered away from genre films for a while, how starring in Eminem's iconic music video “Stan” helped redefine him as an actor and why a show about a murderous doll is so important. So lets get ready to sit down with the man who had the best battle with his own possessed hand since Bruce Campbell, thwarted deaths plan and been killed by Chucky more then anybody… welcome horror's leading man, Devon Sawa! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Mr McIntyre co-hosts a special Training Tuesday all about the training for Hyrox. Well, mostly about training for Hyrox with a small amount of Hunter tangents. Okay, a decent amount of Hyrox with a healthy amount of nonsense. Fine, it's mostly chit chat, tangents, and nonsense, but there still is some Hyrox training GOLD in there along with a breakdown of his new Hyrox Masterclass training program.
