Compared to several other female centered animes, this show somehow helped to change the conversation around powerful female led storylines : as characters to root FOR, not against.

The fact this only got one episode is a travesty, because this anime is a hidden that deserved better! While this anime doesn't exactly feature clubs, or detectives, it does feature girls innocently causing mass mayhem and giving us one of the funniest "and so I started blasting" moments we have ever seen. This week we're joined by AstralShift's Kira (António Lopes / @kirariinn) to talk everything Little Goody Two Shoes -- a lush, gorgeously detailed horror-adventure-visual novel following Elise, a rebellious young woman daring to build a better life for herself in a deceptively peaceful small town. The game expertly explores the queer subtext beneath the horrors of witch hunts and religious ostracization, and we had an absolutely lovely time unpacking it with the game's lead artist and co-director!PS - there's still time to enter our giveaway of a Steam key for Little Goody Two Shoes! In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana, Chika, and Rachel the Shoujo Scholar review episodes four through six of Ooku: The Inner Chambers. In episode four, you can tell by the tone of our Floats Your Boat that this episode was going to hurt us deeply. Waka Murasaki meets a terrible fate, forcing Giana to hate Gyokuei with no hope for redemption. Rachel points out the interesting role reversal between Arikoto and Iemitsu. In episode five, Arikoto provides the ultimate fan service for bi individuals everywhere. Chika makes an interesting connection between Arikoto's switch in devotion from Buddha to Iemitsu with cults. The question is raised: Why hasn't Iemitsu simply killed Kasuga? Iemitsu's painful past stirs up empathy for her. In episode six, Kasuga's state of health brightens everyone's spirits. Sutezo's arrival shakes things up for Arikoto and Iemitsu. Grab your spoons, and let's dig in! Covers all three volumes of Legal Drug by ClampGet ready to get high. And horny. And gay. And paid. Okay, to be honest, we're not sure what the drug is, or that it's legal, but hey, we're here to talk about it anyway. Shojo & Tell host Ashley and her husband Asher continue their Clamp journey with Legal Drug, which is technically complete, in the same way that QQ Sweeper is complete (which is to say: Not at all, because there's a sequel, Drug & Drop, and it's been on hiatus for forever). None of the central mysteries of Legal Drug is solved within the confines of the volumes. Well, whatever. We're all just here for Kazahaya and Rikuo being in provocative poses, right? The biggest question of the episode is: Is this queerbaiting? Get ready to hear our thoughts about Clamp's fiftymillionth JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fanfic (this one is basically the crappier version of xxxHolic).REFERENCESLegal Drug is available from Dark Horse ComicsDrug & Drop is also available from Dark Horse ComicsYou should probably listen to CLAMPcast insteadOther Clamp works mentioned:MuriKuriSukiTsubasa: Reservoir ChroniclesMagic Knight RayearthClamp School DetectivesThe One I LoveTokyo BabylonMan of Many FacesDuklyonxxxHolicRG VedaCardcaptor SakuraChobitsAngelic LayerWishOther manga/anime mentionedDelicious in DungeonQQ SweeperQueen's QualityKimi ni TodokeCyborg 009Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic DaysSnow White with the Red HairFigs need waspsThe Ashes love Tales of games maybe too muchTales of Vesperia (Raven)Tales of the Abyss (Jade)There is only hitsuzenArchive of Our OwnOutro song: "The Streatham Hill Gods" by DanosongsCONTACT USAsher on Archive of Our Own: @dasheryShojo & Tell on Bluesky, Tumblr, Instagram, and TwitterAshley on Bluesky
Your favorite Shoujo podcast continues its coverage of the technically Shounen, but decidedly feminine series Angelic Layer. Sarah explains the newest manhua she's reading while Joe shares his thoughts on the original Macross anime. In Angelic Layer, we see Misaki face off with the cheater sisters and later she goes on a date with Kotaro-chan! Will this be the first Shounen series to acknowledge its romantic implications?!Recommendations:Joe - Star Wars RebelsSarah - Mass Effect Legendary Edition
We're back this week to discuss Angelic Layer episodes 3 & 4. Sarah reveals that she's in an anime slump, oh no! Meanwhile, Joe is raking in the cash from an apparent class action settlement against HiDive. And you thought being an anime watcher wasn't profitable. In Angelic Layer, having just won her first match, Misaki's next challenge is to learn some cool dance moves. And a new mysterious and talented boy enters the picture, Ooo la la. We then move immediately into a tournament arc and find out that Hatoko is the coolest kindergartener ever, who'da thought? We double down on how this show really is Shoujo and we imagine a world where Esports are actually good.We cap off with some recommendations:Joe recommends a podcast called Game Studies Study BuddiesSarah recommends a video game called WitchSpring R
Welcome to the first episode of ShouJoe, a podcast where our host Sarah shows her longtime friend Joe some Shoujo anime (anime with an audience intended for girls/young women). Every episode we recap and discuss two episodes of a shoujo anime. We are starting with Angelic Layer and this episode will cover episodes 1 & 2. …okay look, so maybe, just maybe, Angelic Layer is technically a Shounen anime (the intended audience is boys), and perhaps Sarah just assumed it was a Shoujo because she watched it as a child, but it's got a female lead, and mother-daughter drama, and, uh, dolls, so I think we should count it. We're going to count it. It's Shoujo now!
For our first episode of 2024 we are joined by the two cohosts of the Shoujo Sundae podcast, Giana Luna and Chika Supreme, as we review the manga ION by Arina Tanemura. Apologies are in order, for despite the episode number, this podcast does not contain Jackée. Visit www.animeworldorder.com for full show notes and supplemental links.

Believing that the world lacks individuality, he wants nothing more than to be unique and remembered. The boy seemingly gets the chance to leave his name in history when he becomes the first to be diagnosed with a new incurable disease that is estimated to kill him by the age of 12. Just as he is rejoicing about his newfound individuality, he meets a cheerful, prodigious girl who has the same disease—and is nearing her 12th birthday. As the boy realizes that he won't be the first to die from the disease and therefore won't be remembered, he forms a twisted plan: kill the girl before her illness does.
We discuss the two shojo manga versions of Cowboy Bebop: Cowboy Bebop by Hajime Yatate [Sunrise staff] and Cowboy Bebop: Shooting Star by Cain KugaAsk an anime fan above the age of 30 what their favorite anime is, and chances are high they'll say Cowboy Bebop. The music, the animation, the mood — it's iconic. And then there are the two shojo manga iterations of Cowboy Bebop, which have largely been lost to the sands of time (and then, there's the Netflix live action version...). Shojo and Tell host Ashley and her husband, Asher, read both of these severely out of print manga adaptations, and discuss here. Topics of discussion include: Ed and gender, why the heck is Shooting Star the way it is, and why was it decided that this seinen anime needs not one, but two shojo manga adaptations?REFERENCESBoth Cowboy Bebop manga adaptations are out of print. They were previously published by Tokyopop. The Cowboy Bebop anime is still beloved by many who aren't the AshesThe Netflix live action version of Cowboy Bebop was funYoko Kanno's music is part of what makes the anime such a hitOther series mentioned:Outlaw StarNeon Genesis EvangelionNeon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic DaysDimension WBleachLegal DrugXGurren LagannThe Vision of EscaflowneFushigi YugiMaid-Sama!Tech bros trying to colonize space: Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Richard BransonOutro song: "The Streatham Hill Gods" by DanosongsCONTACT USShojo & Tell on Bluesky, Tumblr, Instagram, and TwitterAshley on Bluesky
