This month Mike is 'Hanging on the Telephone' (or Skype to be more precise) with Big Boy Bloater as they break down Blondie's classic album 'Parallel Lines'. Mike and Bloater look back at the impact that producer Mike Chapman had on the band in the studio and how that hard work translated into an album that changed everything. What were Mike's initial thoughts of Blondie upon starting work on the album? Which track on 'Parallel Lines' was called 'the tenderest new wave love song put to vinyl' by Rolling Stone? Why did some Blondie fans have such a problem with 'Heart of Glass'? PLUS Mike reviews 'Dark Matter', the first studio album in nearly ten years from singer songwriter Randy Newman. Welcome to episode 24 of the Wonder Junkie Podcast, featuring historian Matt Brosnan and curator at the Imperial War Museum and the new exhibition, People Power: Fighting For Peace. People Power: Fighting for Peace, is the UK’s first major exhibition to explore the evolution of the anti-war movement from the First World War to the present day. The exhibition tells the stories of individual and collective acts of anti-war protest, and the varied forms of creative expression used to campaign against war. In the exhibit, you can view rare items such as a handwritten poem by Siegfried Sassoon and original sketches for the peace symbol. Matt Brosnan, Historian, and Curator of People Power: Fighting for Peace at IWM says: “This exhibition is the first of its kind and displays a number of fascinating items which have never been exhibited before. In IWM’s Centenary year, this major exhibition continues our mission to explore war and conflict from multiple perspectives – highlighting the peace movement and its important role in British history.” Due to Matt having a limited amount of time on the opening day of the exhibit my interview with him only lasted about 10 minutes which isn’t quite long enough for a podcast in its own right. This is ok though, as it’s allowed me to get more creative with this episode and create a short audio documentary. For those of you who might remember, I used to produce The Blues Magazine Show with Big Boy Bloater on TeamRock Radio and whilst producing that show, we created a documentary called “The 21st Century Blues” which is still one of my favourite things I’ve ever done in radio and broadcast. So, I thought this would be a great opportunity to dust off my producing hat and hopefully create something really special for a subject matter that deserves all the attention it can get. My thanks to the wonderful team at the Imperial War Museum and to Matt Brosnan for making time to speak to me about the exhibit, if I could describe the exhibit in one simple way it would be; thought provoking. The exhibit is open until August 28th, 2017 and you can buy tickets online here - http://www.iwm.org.uk/exhibitions/iwm-london/fighting-for-peace Credits All audio, music and sound effects acquired legally through the Creative Commons (CC) License, Fair Use Copyright or purchased legally through a provider.
