This celebrated British jazz pianist, songwriter and record producer was labelled a veteran by critics at age 19 and over the following decade won most of the major jazz music awards. Born in Surrey and raised in Wandsworth London, he was classically trained and attended the Guildhall School of Music . Emerging in the late 80s as a jazz pianist and influenced by Herbie Hancock and McCoy Tyner, he recorded three solo albums in his early 20s and his debut album A Clearer View in 1990 was produced by his dream choice of Wayne Shorter. This led to him appearing on the cover of The Wire magazine. He additionally worked with Jean Toussaint, Tommy Smith, and Branford Marsalis In the late 90's Sting invited him to join his band following the death of Kenny Kirkland which saw him tour with Sting for the next six years and recording three albums. He then became a member of Jeff Beck's band, touring for six years and recording a further three albums. During these years he also worked with Chaka Khan, Des'ree, Mica Paris, Carleen Anderson, Manu Katché, Phil Collins, and Peter Gabriel In 2013 after twelve years of touring as a session musician he reestablished himself as a solo artist and soon after, released the album Anything But Look on Lyte Records featuring Will Downing, Omar, Joy Rose, Jacob Collier, Tim Garland and Pino Palladino. He teaches music at Guildhall School of Music and Bath Spa University and additionally composes music for the London-based production music library, Audio Network.

Welcome to a theatrical journey that spans generations and genres!
PART TWOIan joins us having enjoyed the game and hails TDB as MOTM but thinks overall – we got away with one there. Rajovic potential is agreed with. Chris joins us and feels we had a “big Ken shaped hole” in the team and squad. We talk about the team never putting the ball over the top because there seem to be no runners from midfield looking to run beyond the central forward. Chris feels guilty about calling Rajovic out when not scoring and we wonder if the management can develop those other parts that are missing from his game in open play outside the box – fingers crossed!Maximillian Sam joins us from Turkey, and we cover amongst other things turtles, Besiktas and Turkish supporters' intensity. Pete tries to press gang Chris into being the DNSYE Turkish ambassador, but this role might be going to an attractive Besiktas supporter (this is a level of shallow we at DNSYE are happy to co-operate with). Mal isn't feeling well and compares himself to our first half and warns us that we need to defend better when it comes to QPR next weekend.Neil joins us with news that the 321 bus now meanders apparently. The half time turn around seems to have been inspired by some Mica Paris lyrics before putting his money where his mouth is and offering to pay for Uncle Ron's air and match ticket to come and watch Morris at the ground to see how good he is.Five word and long forms and haikus are as brilliant as always.COYH!This Podcast has been created and uploaded by Do Not Scratch Your Eyes. Imelda Staunton has played Queen Elizabeth II for the last two series of television drama The Crown. As the final episodes are released this week, she joins us to discuss playing the monarch, and what it's been like to take on this role since Her Majesty died. How could people step in safely if they see a woman being harassed in public? Former police officer Graham Goulden and criminologist Molly Ackhurst tell us how bystanders can protect themselves while helping others.Soul singer Mica Paris will headline an evening of gospel music on Sky Arts, where she'll be joined by 10 gospel singers and a four-piece band to perform Christmas songs. She gives us a taste of what to expect on A Gospel Christmas. It's been a year and a half since Roe vs Wade was overturned in the United States, ending the constitutional nationwide right to abortion for millions of women. It remains an issue that divides opinion. The British writer Nazrin Choudhury has directed a short film, Red White and Blue, which follows the character Rachel Johnson, played by Brittany Snow, who is forced to cross state lines in search of an abortion. Should we celebrate quitting a job? When Hannah Witton decided to stop making her successful YouTube and podcast series, Doing It, her friends threw her a surprise quitting ceremony. Hannah tells us whether this party helped, alongside the career coach Soma Ghosh with her advice for anyone thinking of quitting. The bestselling author Louise Doughty joins us to discuss a new ITVX drama based on her novel: Platform 7. She tells us how she has turned male-heavy police procedurals on their head – and why she thinks all middle-aged women long to go on the run.Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Lucy Wai Editor: Sarah Crawley
The National Crime Agency has warned parents that Facebook and Instagram are now a danger to children. That's after Meta, the parent company of the social media sites, made the decision to introduce encrypted messaging. The BBC's Technology Editor Zoe Kleinman and online safety expert John Carr join Emma Barnett to discuss. Bafta award-winning actor Sheridan Smith has said that she regrets the tattoos she's got and would never get another one done. It's a situation that a lot of people find themselves in. Letitia Mortimer, a London-based tattoo artist, talks to Emma about seeing plenty of people wanting to get their tattoos covered or removed over the years. Soul singer Mica Paris will headline an evening of gospel music on television, where she'll be joined by 10 gospel singers and a dynamic four-piece band to perform moving versions of various Christmas songs. She joins Emma live in the studio to give us a taste of what to expect on A Gospel Christmas and her new album. Two referenda to change Ireland's constitution regarding gender and family are to be held on International Women's Day next year. The amendments would broaden the definition of family beyond marriage in the constitution, and there would be reference to carers to recognise all those who provide care. Commentator Laura Perrins and academic and activist Ailbhe Smyth join Emma to discuss why the suggestions are potentially contentious. Presenter: Emma Barnett Producer: Lottie Garton

Drummer, percussionist, writer, producer and MD who has worked with the cream of British music talent including Jimmy Page, Billy Ocean, Incognito, Jason Rebello, Jocelyn Brown, Beverley Knight, Nigel Kennedy, Soul II Soul, Joss Stone, Roachford and Mica Paris. Born and raised in London from a rich mixed cultural background of Afro Caribbean, Arabic, Portuguese and Chinese, he was introduced to music at a young age via his fathers' extensive record collection comprising of reggae, calypso, soca, Latin, jazz, funk r&b and pop. With his first drum kit at just 6 years of age he formed his first band aged 13 and later shunning a scholarship to further study music, he opted for the life of a professional musician landing his first European tour with British jazz funk outfit The Breakfast Band. His passion was nurtured further by his uncle, renowned session guitarist Winston Delandro, opening doors to a sea of great musicians which allowed him to expand and enrich his musicality, travel the world, learn of life and its diverse cultures that reflect in his own music and productions.
From a musical family and with a naturally driven passion to sing, a chance meeting with a record producer led to her first recording. Her first paid gig was dancing as a shadow in one of Jocelyn Browns' videos and she has since graced stages across the world playing numerous prestigious venues as Tokyo's famous Blue Note club, Switzerland's Montreaux Jazz Festival and New York's The Filmore. She has performed on television, in the studio, and live with artists including Nile Rodgers, Chaka Khan, Maceo Parker, Philip Bailey, Jimmy Cliff, UB40, Gloria Gaynor, Incognito, Betty Wright, Omar, Mica Paris, Stephen Marley, Julian Marley, Leon Ware and Aswad. Featuring on no less than 12 albums by the celebrated Jazz Funk band Incognito she has become a long-standing favourite with the fans completing several world tours. Contributions for other acts include Urban Species, Reel People, Down to the Bone, Tru Faith & Dub Conspiracy and she has featured on 9 singles for dance outfit Copyright as well as tracks with The Layabouts. Her debut solo album 'Standing Tall' has been met with critical acclaim and described as ‘One of the most wonderful and memorable voices...” by Bluey of Incognito.
On this episode of The Paul Weller Fan Podcast, my special guest is the multi-award-winning British songwriter and musician, Paul Barry. Paul formed his first band The Questions whilst at high school in Edinburgh in the summer of 1977 and a few years later, the band were supporting The Jam and signing to Paul Weller's Respond Record Label before hitting the road with their own shows and as part of the live Respond and Style Council shows. Whist the band didn't enjoy Top 40 success - they did sell tens of thousands of records and were hugely popular with live audiences too. Paul co-wrote (with John Robinson) The House That Jack Built which was a Top 10 single for Tracie Young. Over the past 30 years as a songwriter, Paul has had huge success with smash-hit singles for Cher, Enrique Iglesias and James Bay. He's also written for and with the likes of Celine Dion, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie, Mica Paris, Ricky Martin and James Morrison (and exclusive reveal of a Paul Weller link in our chat!). Michael shares why he continues to practice playing his guitar everyday. The importance of maintaining healthy relationships with the people you work with. The biggest hurdle in his journey. Biggest lesson he has learned at The Voice. His future plans beyond The Voice. Tips for working with brands. Gear he recommends. 10 important things aspiring guitar players should know if they had the ambitions of being a professional player or semi-professional hobby player enthusiast. The most important lesson he has learned in his journey. Advice he would give to the younger version of himself. Guest Links Michael Dolce Music Website Michael Dolce Music Instagram Guitar Teaching Resources Mentioned Free Guitar E-book Resources Today's Guest Michael Dolce was heavily influenced by his dad, strumming and singing Italian folk songs and the odd country tune of guitar at the age of six. At 15, he left school to pursue a trade as a cabinet maker. But he still retained his passion for guitar by playing with local cover bands. At the age of 20, Michael decided to give up his trade to pursue his dream of becoming a full-time guitarist. An opportunity arose in 1991 when local singer songwriter Hugh Wilson appeared on the popular television show ‘Starsearch' and won the series. Hugh and manager Glenn Wheatley approached Michael to join him in his band. This led to an amazing nine months of recording of three singles, an album, recording film clips and extensive touring. Over the next 30 years, Michael further established himself with a solid career as a session guitarist by playing and recording for many Top 10 National and International artists. His playing credits today include the TV show The Voice (Australia), Delta Goodrem, Keith Urban, Lionel Richie, Seal, Roachford, Mica Paris and more. Ernie McKone is a UK-based bass player, producer and tutor whose speciality is jazz, funk, Latin and soul. With so many connections to Paul Weller and the likes of Mick Talbot, Steve White, Carleen Anderson, Jacko Peake and Matt Deighton over the past 30 plus years - there are some great stories to dig into. In 1997, Ernie joined the Paul Weller live band - taking over from Yolanda Charles - and he toured Europe and the UK for a couple of years around the release of the album Heavy Soul. The Victoria Park gig of 1998 has been captured on film (YouTube link below) and the audio was released as a limited edition bonus Live Classics CD with Paul's first solo greatest hits - Modern Classics. More recently Ernie has remixed one of the many stand out tracks from the Paul Weller album Fat Pop - with October 2021 seeing the release of Glad Times (Soul Steppers) - Remixed by Boogie Back. He also did a stonking version of Stone Foundation's Deeper Love (which featured Paul on vocals) with a Late Night Jazz Funk Mix. Ernie also runs Boogie Back Records - an underground label that releases jazz funk and street soul. Artists who have appeared on the label include Omar, The Valentine Brothers, Vivienne McKone (his sister who also played keys with The Style Council for a time), Max Beesley, Mica Paris and more... Ernie played with Galliano in the early nineties - performing on the brilliant albums In Pursuit of the 13th Note, A Joyful Noise unto the Creator and The Plot Thickens. In 1993, he played bass on the Talbot & White album - United States of Mind.
dattrax: hElLo fElLoW hOuSe HeAdS from around the world! So excited for you to enjoy this mix. I hope that it puts a massive smile on your face.Did you have a good week so far? Are you struggling with challenges? Embarrassed about them? Ask your close network for help. Everything is available on Google Search and YouTube search to find solutions to your problems. Or, if you're not ready for that, the greatest escape for anything that makes you happy and gives you an escape for a few hours and mental rest from worry.I know that it's been tough lately. Hang in there. Focus your energy to positively and optimistically move forward. You're sad and feeling bad, it's okay to feel what you feel. You need the time to process, introspect, think about what part you had in your misfortune. Then decide to go fix your problems. You may have to think or take actions that are not natural to you. Time to reinvent yourself. You can do it!Don't worry about things that you can't control, because that's a TON of things and you don't want to needlessly burden yourself. Focus on what you can do to change your situation. It's not what happens to us that's important, it's how we react to it.In the cracks of time the last few months, I've been going through about 2,500 tracks in about 3-4 seconds each. You either feel it or you don't. The track either moves you or it doesn't. [Usually, that volume is done within a month, but I had to deal with tons of negative life crap in Feb].Then after I'm done going through all my fav DJ chart lists, house producers, singers, record labels, etc + the top 100 downloads in these categories: house, deep house, afro house, nu-disco, tech house, minimal house, jackin' house, progressive house, electronica, and classic house.By then I usually have about 130-150 tracks. Then I go through that digital crate on different days and the ones that don't move me anymore get removed.I bought 27 tracks in this batch and listened to them for an entire week. Some of my favs can each get up to 20plays each, so I really get to know each track and enjoy them. [Only 25 of the 27 made it into this mix].Then before the mix, I put them in folders like this so I'm not all over the place, yet have the freedom to bounce around. It's structured, but it's not too restrictive. This keeps it always FUN. If it's not fun, then why do it at all:Vocal - Mellow |Vocal - Medium |Vocal - Hype |Dubby - Mellow |Dubby - Medium |Dubby - Hype |Instrumental - Mellow |Instrumental - Medium |Instrumental - Hype |Covers/Remixes |Classic House Vocals |Classic House Dubby |Classic House Instruments |***"Dubby" are those tracks that have only repetitive vocal snippets or stabs, not a full vocal throughout the track. This took one attempt. I usually have to do 3-12 attempts before I get a mix that I love throughout because of all the mistakes. The biggest mistake was when I was mixing in a vocal track and mixing out the previous vocal. The vocal in the track coming in came in a long faster than I expected. Mixed vocals are terrible.I SHOULD'VE CHECKED in my monitor headphones. I always check in the headphones before I apply effects, delay, or flange because if I don't check, it'll sound like shet with most tracks. With the different delay effects, I like applying it between a mix as a new track is coming out or being mixed out and not on the single track playing like most DJs. It's more exciting through a mix. This batch had sooooo many amazing vocal house tracks!!!!! Their underlying instrumentals are wicked!!Love tracks that the music is so strong that if you stripped away the vocals, then you'd still have a killer house track.I usually mix classic house tracks made from 1985-2000 into my sets but this time, just wanted all the new tracks. Even replayed a fav new vocal at the end of the new stuff. LMAO!! This one » "Let It Go" (Maxxi Soundsystem Remix) Pandora Drive. It's better than the Disney Frozen version ; )"Classic house" is an extremely amusing category because it depends on which period of house music do you consider to be 'classic'?It depends on which were the formative years where you were getting involved with house music + the DJs that you listened to on multiple mediums and danced to live. What were their styles?I couldn't help myself though by keeping it purely the new tracks. I had to go into a 6 track classic house excursion. LMAO!!!!Made about 5 mistakes on this mix, but the groove that was built was really really amazing, the rest of the mixing was tight and these tracks... WOWZERS!! They were begging me to mix them!!! Enjoy and let us know if you like this mix and which parts you loved the most.---------------Image Explanation: This was a tiny but cool place called Nasa. It was located at 609 Queen West, circa 2005 in Downtown Toronto. It was owned by a famous Classic House DJ and part-owner of the famous Industry Niteclub, Matt C., and his best friend, Ben. They're still best friends today and in their own successful real estate business. Love stories of lifelong friendships. It was 17yrs ago, so I was 30, and my best friend and live DJ partner, Jim was 31. In the pic, we're spinning vinyl records at that time and had a blast the bunch of times we had the privilege to throw down there. At that time, I was also managing a 24hr hotspot just south of Yonge & Bloor called 7West Cafe. We served about 600-800 people per night. It was so much fun!!
