S7E19 went out Live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 9 May 2024.  Winter is coming to Johannesburg so this show helped to warm up the airwaves.  We kicked off with Blackfoot of Tomcattin' and a track called 'Gimme, Gimme, Gimme'.  From there on out it was all the rock and metal we could squeeze in from the last 55 years.   Continuing with Evolutions we took in a track off The Foo Fighters' second album The Color and The Shape.     Just to reiterate please NOTE that if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down and forcing podcasters onto YouTube Music.  The problem with that is you just can't get through the red tape and the shows get blocked due to the convoluted licencing structures.  You can find us on plenty of other sites if this happens.  The TSORR website www.thestoryofrockandroll.com will always be able to help.  You can also always contact TSORR on Facebook, X, or Instagram.     This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Reason to Believe'.  Bruce Springsteen and Arch Enemy did the honours.     Immortals this week came from Gary Moore and a track called 'Blood of Emeralds'.  It was tempting to give ‘Parisienne Walkways' a go but traditionally we stay more obscure with immortals.  Maybe next time.     The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘S'.  The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one.  This week we had: Scorpions – Love At First StingSaxon – Wheels of SteelSeether – GasolineSkid Row – Skid RowWe also had Bomb Crocodile and Slow Panda's Picks of the Week featuring birthday boy Joe Bonamassa and Spiritbox.Check out the website to sign up for the monthly TSORR newsletterArtists Featured: Blackfoot, Badlands, Theory of a Deadman, Boston, Van Halen, Massive Wagons, Kickin' Valentina, Backyard Babies, Patti Smith, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, John Cougar, Last In Line, Def Leppard, Bruce Springsteen, Arch Enemy, Nirvana, Mick mars, Daughtry, Disturbed, Foo Fighters, Godsmack, Karen Zoid (feat Dan Patlansky), Dan Patlansky, The Black Cat Bones, Springbok Nude Girls, Gary Moore, Scorpions, Saxon, Skid Row, Seether, The Clash, The Stranglers, the Fismits, Joe Bonamassa, Spiritbox, Ghost Brigade, Billy idolThe Story of Rock and Roll. S7E12 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 21 March 2024.  It was full throttle out of the gate with Dio and ‘Evil Eyes'.  We had some new music from Dan Patlansky, Judas Priest and Bruce Dickenson.  Most interesting is a new single from Vended.  I am really digging Vended a lot, sons of Slipknot, literally, Griffin Tayor and Simon Crahan doing their parents proud.   To remind you to get tickets for next year's Green Day, The Offspring, and Fokofpolisikar concert in Cape Town and JHB we again took a quick track from each of them.   This weeks Twisted Twins featured a song called 'Lost in Hollywood'.  The new Judas Priest is out so obviously we continued to rave about that.    This week's Immortals feature was incredible.  Mark Knopfler has assembled 60 musicians, mostly guitarists (he's got Ringo and his son Zak on drums and Sting on Bass), and it is a veritable who's who of guitar.  The track has been recorded by Mark Knopfler and Friends to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.  It's a new version of 'Going Home' (Theme from Local Hero) and, it includes contributions from among others Joe Bonamassa, Slash, Springsteen, Joe Satriani, Steve Lukather, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, John Mc Laughlin, Brian May, the list goes.  Incredible.       This week's Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘L'.  The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one.  This week we had: Loverboy – Get LuckyLed Zeppelin – Over the Hills and Far AwayLynyrd Skynyrd – Second HelpingLive – Throwing Copper Artists Featured: Dio, Chickenfoot, Phil X & the Drills, ACDC, ZZ Top, Saxon, Motörhead, The Union Underground, Overkill, Black Tide, Alice Cooper, Doomsday Outlaw, Michael Schenker Group, Guns ‘n' Roses, Volbeat, Rainbow, System of a Down, Judas Priest, Bruce Dickinson, Bullet For My Valentine, Machine Head, Green Day, The Offspring, Fokofpolisiekar, Loverboy, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Live, Metallica, Megadeth, Vended, Piet Botha & Jackhammer, Joe Bonamassa, Dan Patlansky, Pink Floyd. The Story of Rock and Roll. S6E13 kicked off at 19h00 sharp on 30 March 2023 on Rebel Rock Radio.  The show started a bit differently with a track called ‘City Lights' by Motionless In White, from there normality was restored with Scorpions and Motörhead.  We went back to Germany for 'Buck Dich' from Rammstein and then shifted to the USA for some Aerosmith, and a track on the Get a Grip album titled 'Walk on Down'.   Follow the list below for the deatils.  In terms of highlights we had the brand new Metallica, title track of their forthcoming album 72 Seasons.  It is wonderful, if you don't like it then I gotta say maybe you never liked really liked Metallica, maybe you should admit they are just not for you.  The weekly interview was with Ross Harding and it was very cool to catch up with him and discuss his brand new track ‘Everything is Black'.  The Ultimate Challenge this week looked at 4 albums from 2000.  The candidates were Iron Maiden – Brave New World, Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory, Disturbed – The Sickness, and In Flames – Clayman.  Iron Maiden was the clear winner this week, Hybrid Theory did next best.  The Immortals slot was awarded to Judas Priest and we basked in the glow of ‘Victim of Changes'.   The Punk part was filled by The Stranglers, Sex Pistols and UK Subs, this to celbrate my brand new Stranglers T-Shirt, this is a bucket list shirt and the story behind it is buried near the end of the show.  We went out heavy with Dark Tranquility and Parkway Drive. Artists featured:  Motionless In White, Scorpions, Motörhead, Rammstein, Aerosmith, Nickelback, Volbeat, Buckcherry, The Rolling Stones, The Black Crowes, Nita Strauss & Alice Cooper, Hatebreed, Metallica, Hellfighter, Queensrÿche, The Longshot, The L.A. It is that time of year again, Dan Patlansky's guitar weekend down in Clarens.  This episode went out on Rebel rock Radio on 2 March 2023 at 19h00.  It was a bit messy, but messy is good, let me know if you disagree.  We kicked off with Fokofpolisiekar and their classic rock anthem, ‘Hemel Op Die Platteland, and followed up in quick succession with Airbourne, Grand Funk Railroad, and Mötley Crüe.  We heard from the ladies pretty early in the show, two stellar guitarists Sophie Lloyd and Laura Cox showing the way.  From there we checked out some Queen of Queen II and the opening tracks of My Chemical Romances masterpiece The Black Parade.   We broke radio rules and played Nickelback with no problem at all, I love Nickelback, I think Chad Kroeger is a phenomenal songwriter and has a golden voice.  I think the hate is coming from people piling on because others don't like them.  Be your own person and admit that there is nothing wrong with Nickelback

We kicked episode 6 with a track called ‘Burning For You' a cover of a great track by Blue Öyster Cult, very well done here by Iced Earth.  The show then got heavy with Killswitch Engage and Annihilator,  with ‘Desperate Times' and 'Set the World On Fire' respectively.   Both of these fall into the TSORR Songs that could be about South Africa category.  Accept and Sinner gave us a taste of German metal and then we had Thundermother out of Sweden.  There was a great little SA music segue early in the show where we checked out Jack Hammer Band with a pre-released track called 'As I Turn Away' and then a band out of Sekunda called Pilgrim South.  Their new track 'Old Man Moonshine went down well.  From there we were into familiar territory with Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Def Leppard.  my love affair with Def Leppard's Mutt Lange produced Hi 'N' Dry album continues, we listened to 'Lady Strange'. Manic Street Preachers and a new-ish band I am not too familiar with called St. Aurora changed the pace a bit and then we started to delve into this week's Ultimate Challenge, 4 albums released in 1980 and you can only choose one.  The albums selected were Judas Priest - British Steel, Black Sabbath - Heaven & Hell, Motörhead -  Ace of Spades, and ACDC - Back in Black.  the votes came in but in the end, it was one-way traffic with the winner of this week's Ultimate Challenge going to Back In Black.  The Immortal track was Gun ‘n' Roses with Estranged and we kept our punk confined to the USA with Iggy Pop, The Distillers, and Weezer.  I had some problems with Brody Dalle squashed in the middle.  This week I discovered Doomsday Outlaw, this track called ' Is This The End of Everything' features the kind of guitar tone and phrasing that I absolutely love.  Talking guitar, a track off the new Winery Dogs with Richie Kotzen, Bily Sheehan, and Mike Portnoy hit the stop.  Girish and the Chronicles are just simply blazing, what a band.  We ended heavy with Ablaze My Sorrow off their new EP, and Phantom Days by Dark Tranquility.  Oh, one last thing TSORR made No 12 on the list of top 35 Rock Podcasts on the planet, check it out right here:https://blog.feedspot.com/rock_and_roll_podcasts/?feedid=5328472Artists Featured:  Iced Earth, Killswitch Engage, Annihilator, Bullets & Octane, Deaf Havana, Accept, Thundermother, Five Finger Death Punch, Sinner, Theory of a Deadman, The Cult, Alabama 3, Godsmack, Ozzy Osbourne, Jack Hammer Band, Pilgrim South, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Def Leppard, Adrenaline Mob, Manic Street Preachers, St. Aurora, Black Sabbath, Dan Patlansky, Hinder, Motörhead, Winery Dogs, Black Veil Brides, Guns ‘n' Roses, Iggy Pop, The Distillers, Weezer, Doomsday Cowboy, Girish & the Chronicles, ACDC, Ablaze My Sorrow, Dark TranquillityThe Story of Rock and Roll. Welcome to 2023 and Season 6 of the Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show.  Episode 1 got going on 5 Jan 2023 on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 with a track called 'Emaheeval' by Desperado.  Desperado was a post-Twisted Sister band comprising Dee Snider, Bernie Tormé, Clive Burr, and Marc Russell.  It's an excellent album that was shelved in a nasty bit of spite by Bob Krasnow and it's a pity because if it had been released at the time it would have done well.  Dee has done OK though.  Next up Aerosmith with Walk This Way, what a riff!!  Joe Perry at his finest.  We continued with some Thundermother out of Stockholm, who are doing a great job of paying reparations for the music ABBA subjected the world to in the '70s, nice work ladies, and thank you

Finally, we reached the end of Season 5.  The final show, episode 52 went out live at 19h00 on 29 Dec 2022 on rebel Rock Radio.  At the risk of boring you all I just have to say that once again it all happened under really trying circumstances.  I hope you all appreciate the lengths I have to go through to get this show out.  The Wi-Fi has been non-existent all day, I can't even upload the MCR Rock Review.  We have more load shedding in an hour's time and I can't get onto the Rebel Rock Site so I am flying blind.  That said this show is a wrap-up of all the albums we checked out this year.  Well, not all the albums because we checked out 65 new releases this year.  Out of 157 albums added this year 65 were 2022 releases.  I did my best to play you as much as possible from these 65.  We kicked off with Halestorm and the title track of their release Back From The Dead.  From there we had Motor Sister and a track called 'Can't Get Enough'.  From there we listened to ‘Take What You Want' off Diamond Star Halos, the latest offering from Def Leppard.  We went to Germany and took a listen to Rammstein and to Sinner.  Desolation Angels out of the UK (with South African bassist Clive Pearson who used to be in a SA Metal band called Lynx back in the ‘80s) gave us a track called 'Walking On Water' off Burning Black.  We also heard from Tony Martin ex Black Sabbath and Joe Lynn Turner ex Rainbow.  Both these guys both put out strong albums in the form of Thorns and Belly of the Beast respectively.   Five Finger Death Punch and Disturbed both made the cut and sounded awesome.  It was time for a bit of Metal from Soulfly and a track called 'Ancestors'.  We also heard 'Black Butterfly' from Candlemass.  After checking out some late ‘80's early ‘90s style rock from the Dead Daisies, Skid Row, and Aussie youngsters Dead City Ruins we hit the blues with our very own Dan Patlansky whose Shelter of Bones was given the No 2 spot by Blues Rock Magazine.  The South African scene was also represented by L.A. Cobra, The Devil's Party Band, Infanteria, and Diverted Disorder.    Finally, we got to the top of the list and played out with Ozzy Osbourne, Parkway Drive, The Halo Effect, and Megadeth, and the best album of 2022 according to me went to Arch Enemy with Deceivers.  We had a few minutes left so we checked out with scenes from forthcoming attraction in 2023 in the form of Blink 182 and the single they dropped months ago called ‘Edging'.  I hope to see you all for 2023 and Season 6 of The Story of Rock and Roll. PS.  Notable mentions we just didn't get to Keator, Slipknot, Soilwork, Ghost, and Machine Head, what a year for music.   Artists featured:  Halestorm, Herman Frank, Motor Sister, Def Leppard, Sinner, Rammstein, Joe Lynn Turner, Nickelback, Desolation Angels, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Eddie Vedder, Billy Idol, Alter Bridge, Tony Martin, Candlemass, Soulfly, The Dead Daisies, Skid Row, Dead City Ruins, Dan Patlansky, L.A. S5E50 aired on 15 December 2022 on Rebel Rock Radio.  December is usually quiet on the station but for TSORR it is always very special, this particular show celebrated the official start of the December holidays.  Next week TSORR turns 5 and the week after that Episode 52 the season closer takes you through all the rock and metal highlights of 2022.  But more of that later.  This episode kicked off with White Lion and a track off the Fight To Survive called ‘In the City'.  From there we went to the USA and a band called Motor Sister, and Scotland for a bit of Nazareth and ‘May The Sunshine', a rock classic if ever there was one.  Electric 6 and System of a Down took us to the weirder side of rock with ‘I Wish This Song Was Louder' and BOOM! Respectively.   From there we checked out the ladies, Laura Cox out of France is new to me, what an awesome guitarist, we listened to Freaking Out Loud off her Burning Bright album.  Big thanks to Norman for that one, I had totally missed Laura.  We also checked out another track off the new Halestorm album, Back From The Dead.  Buckcherry, no strangers to TSORR hit us with Fallout and Sixx A.M. with ‘Stars'.  Metallica got us back into the heavy side of things and we stayed there with ‘Spreading the Disease' from Queensryche and some Accepts and some Candlemass.  It all went down very well.   South Africa is blessed with two of the greatest blues guitarists around, Dan Patlansky who has just been awarded the second-best album of 2022 by Blues Rock Magazine for his Shelter of Bones, (this is a huge achievement guys,  Dan beat out blues giants Walter Trout, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Edgar Winter)  and Richard Pryor in his band Pebbleman.  We took a listen to 'Devil's Dopamine' and a track called ‘Edge of Nails' from Richard's Pebbleman project.  Pink Floyd's ‘Young Lust' gave another classic track and then we hit the punky part of the show with The Boomtown Rats, The Clash, and a tribute to Jet Black, the drummer from The Stranglers, RIP Jet, thanks for the music.  I am sure that Jet and Dave Greenfield are having a pint right this very moment.    Taking us into the home stretch we hit the rock with Motörhead's classic ‘Stay Clean', The Dead Daisies, and some serious thrash from Death Angel and a track called ‘Mistress of Pain'.  Then it was back to South Africa and three in a row from Cutting Jade, Arapaho, and Francois Van Coke.  We closed out with Alter Bridge and a track that sums it all up tonight titled 'Holiday'.  All the best to you all and to everyone who went on leave this week, enjoy it, Memento Mori! Artists featured:  White Lion, Motor Sister, Nazareth, Rival Sons, Walking Papers, Electric Six, System of a Down, Texas Hippie Coalition, Joe Lynn Turner, Laura Cox, Halestorm, Buckcherry, Sixx A.M. Little Caesar, Little Steven, Metallica, Queensrÿche, Accept, Candlemass, Dan Patlansky, Pebbleman, Pink Floyd, Audioslave, The Boomtown rats, The Clash, The Stranglers, My Chemical Romance, The Dead Daisies, Kid Rock, Death Angel, Cutting Jade, Arapaho, Francois Van Coke, Mastodon, Disturbed, Ayron Jones, The Distillers, Alter Bridge The Story of Rock and Roll. Episode 17 of season 5 aired on 28 April 2022.  It seemed to fly by. We started with the one song that is most responsible for The Story of Rock and Roll, 'Detroit Rock City' by Kiss.  This song changed my life, once I heard it on an old black and gold Pye cassette tape in about 1978, I was never the same.  Next up was another band that had a huge influence on me Led Zeppelin with 'What Is And What Should Never Be'.We had a bit of commercial rock in the form of Loverboy and Bon Jovi, two excellent bands that have left us a lot of good memories.  We gave the ladies a turn in the form of Thundermother out of Sweden and Burning Witches from Switzerland.  The South African music phase of the show went into overtime, we had The Black Cat Bones, 12th Avenue, Blue Scream, Dan Patlansky, and my current favorite The Devil's Party Band.  This EP titled The Best Album Ever was released last week and it's everything I love, high voltage energetic rock and roll with lots of guitar solos.  The whole concept of the Devil's Party Band is wonderful, I wish I had thought of it myself.  Well done Anthonie & Chris Van DerWalt, Jason Oosthuiden and Werner Bosman! For the rest of it, we got heavy with Hellyeah, Machine Head, Mercyful Fate, and Metallica.  I made amends to everyone who experienced the brutal cut-over between my Stone Sour Rock Review and the next program on Rebel Rock Radio by playing 'ZZYXY Road' in its entirety.  As usual, I ran out of time and the show closed out with My Chemical Romance paying tribute to heavy metal legend Cronos with their track off Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge titled 'Thank You For The Venom.  And as always, there were drums.   Artists featured:  Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Danzig, Sammy Hagar, Iron Maiden, Loverboy, Bon Jovi, Thundermother, Burning Witches, Bush, Matthew Goode Band, Accept, Counting Crowes, The Black Cat Bones, The Devil's Party Band, 12th Avenue, Blue Scream, Dan Patlansky, Hellyeah, Machine Head, Joe Bonamassa, Staind, Rush, Mercyful Fate, Metallica, Phil Rudd, Taylor Hawkins, L.A. Rats, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stiff Little Fingers, Steel Panther, Saxon, Halestorm, The Distillers, Stone Sour, The Horrible Crowes, My Chemical Romance

S5E15 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio on 14 April 2022.  It had an unusual start which may have lost a few listeners.  Being a long weekend there was a bit of a party element in the air so we started with about 10 seconds of Pink 'Get This Party Started and then mercifully blasted into 'The Art of Partying' by Municipal Waste.  With that little joke out the way, we settled into some Mötley Crüe, Hanoi Rocks Slash, and ACDC.  There was a nice little grunge bit where we revisited Alice in Chain's masterpiece 'Rooster'.  The story behind it is interesting and led to 'Blow UP The Outside World' by Soundgarden.  We bridged the grunge new metal vibe while keeping to the party theme with Deftones 'Knife Party.  Going from there into Tool made a huge amount of sense and it was here that the wheels came off.  Load shedding was scheduled for 20h00, for those who don't know what that it is it's a particular South African manifestation of mass corruption and incompetence.  It means we have no power for a few hours a couple of times every 24 hours.  I had turned the generator on before the power went off but switching it over in the dark took a bit longer than anticipated so there may be a slight gap between Deftones and Tool.  Do not adjust your set, it will come back.  There was another gap after Bobby Gaylor's interesting bit of satire titled' Suicide' let's pretend that was to allow you to reflect on what he sang about rather than a load-shedding induced gap between the broadcast time and the playback time.  The joys of shitty wifi I tell you.  This episode has a solidly embedded metal infrastructure built out of Kreator, Machine Head, Parkway Drive, Hypocrisy & Arch Enemy.  We checked out the new Rammstein track 'Zick Zack' a fairly terrifying look at plastic surgery and the dangers of the human ego.  A highlight for me was showcasing just how good our very own Dan Patlansky is, I played his 'Snake Oil City' back to back with Stevie Ray Vaughan's 'Couldn't Stand The Weather' and the main discernable difference is that Dan has a better guitar tone.  Yes, he is that good.  A bit of Samantha Fish got us out of the blues and into the metal as we closed with some pretty heavy stuff surrounding the aforementioned Bobby Gaylor track.  See what you think, it was technically very challenging.     Artists featured:  Municipal Waste, Mötley Crüe, Hanoi Rocks, Burning Rain, The Gaslight Anthem, Slash, Sebastian Bach, ACDC. Kissin' Dynamite, Seether, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Deftones, Tool, Steel Panther, Scorpions, Dead-Line, No Friends of Harry, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rammstein, Kreator, Machine Head, Anti-Flag, The Jam, Chris Rea, Dan Patlansky, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Samantha Fish, System of a Down, Hypocrisy, Coheed & Cambria, Black Veil Brides, Bobby Gaylor, Arch Enemy, Parkway Drive, Warrior Soul

Season 5 Episode 13 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio on 31 Mar 2022.  We kicked off with some ACDC, the title track of their 2016 release Black Ice.  From arguably the biggest rock band in the world we took in 3 lesser-known outfits i.e. Left Lane Cruiser, Monster Truck, and Motor Sister before spending some time with a couple of '70s classics from Rush and Nazareth.  'Zeit', the new release from Rammstein, made its TSORR debut and it's a great track.  Zeit means time, so it was fitting to also take a listen to Pink Floyd's wonderful track 'Time' off dark Side of The Moon.  The sad passing of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins deserved some TSORR recognition.  We took a listen to Taylor with the Foo's in 'All My Life' then a track off his solo EP Kota.  The track is wonderfully titled' I've Got Some Not Being Around You To Do Today'.  Taylor was way more than just the drummer for the band he was a part of the creative whole, a unique multi-talented character who breathed energy and charisma into the band.  From there we took a listen to Dream Widow which is an album Dave Grohl put together as a soundtrack to the Foos 2022 movie Studio 666.  Apparently, Dave played drums, guitar, bass and did all the vocals but it's a bit unclear in the literature how much the rest of the band were involved.   We took a listen to Bollywood out of India and a track called 'Aaj' off their album Rakshak.  It made sense to follow it with 'Ratamahatta' off Roots.  Two other tracks that make sense together were Halestorm's 'Break-In' featuring Amy Lee and In This Moment with 'The Fighter'.  To restore balance and get the show out of slow, dark, emotional albeit excellent stuff we played out with an energetic couple of tracks from Kiss with 'Rocket Ride', The Distillers with 'Sick of It All' and My Chemical Romance closed the set with 'Welcome To The Black Parade'.   P.S. After over 4 years of hoping it was fantastic to announce and celebrate the return of The Gaslight Anthem.  They are doing a reunion tour and are expected to record a new album.  Happy days.  Artists featured:  ACDC, Left Lane Cruiser, Motor Sister, Monster Truck, The Screaming Jets, Rush, Nazareth, Quiet Riot, Rammstein, Motörhead, Sanctuary, The Stooges, Pink Floyd, Queensrÿche, Gary Moore, The Dead Daisies, Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins, Dream Widow, Coal Chamber, Bloodywood, Sepultura, The Clash, Gary Numan., Dead Kennedy's, The Black Cat Bones, Jack Hammer, Dan Patlansky, L.A. Lee and Ray Gillan on guitar and vocals.  This album is one you really should have in your collection. For new stuff, we took another track of Tony Martin, ex of Black Sabbath's new album Thorns.  It made sense to follow up with Dio on vocals with Sabbath and a track called ‘Computer God'.  The new album from Scorpions and Saxon also got some airtime.  It was St Patrick's day today and some people take this really seriously so I let Thin Lizzy and Bob Geldof have a bit of airtime on behalf of Ireland ( I know, I know Bob Geldof?, I dig him OK

Episode 9 of the 2022 season kicked off at 19h00 on 3 March on Rebel Rock Radio.  We started with ACDC to get the blood pumping and then followed with a fairly laid-back Wolfmother track called 'Mind's Eye'.  The whole show was pretty diverse, and included some heavy moments with Testament and Killswitch Engage then all the way back to the early  1969 ad 1976 for MC5 and UFO respectively.  We took a listen to 'Motor City is Burning' which was actually a John Lee Hooker song before Wayne Kramer fixed it up.  There was a nice little bit showcasing the talents of Alissa White-Gluz, starting with a track off Me and That Man's latest album New Man, New Songs, Same Shit Vol II.  The track was called 'Goodbye' and featured Alissa with Devin Townshend.  She sings it beautifully with clean vocals and it's an amazing contrast to the next track where she does her trademark death vocals in Arch Enemy.  That track was called 'Deceiver, Deceiver' off the soon-to-be-released Deceiver album.  Sounds like something out of Black Adder, Your Highness, Your Highness, Your Highness, Your Highness.  It made sense to round out this bit of the show with my current favorite female-fronted band In This Moment with Maria Brink on vox.  We had a short section where we went into C&W territory and played Buckcherry and Kid Rock both featuring Gretchen Wilson.  The big disappointment was messing up the transition between Jethro Tull's 'Moths' and Metallica's 'Moth Into Flame', do not adjust your set there was a technical problem which, in the interests of keeping it real, I haven't edited out.  Dan Patlansky's new album Shelter of Bones is excellent and we took a listen to 'Soul Parasite'.  The new Scorpions 'Rock Believer' went down very well as did listening to two of my favorite solos ever, one from KK Downing on 'Before the Dawn' and the other from the amazing C.C. de Ville on Poisons' track 'Life Goes On'.  Putting Pantera and Nickelback together was good fun, I thought it worked very well and we closed out with two heartfelt South African tracks, 'Sien Jou Weer' and Komma from Piet Botha & Jack Hammer and Francois Van Coke respectively.    Artists featured:  ACDC, Wolfmother, Sixx A.M. Rush, Slash feat Myles Kennedy, Testament, Killswitch Engage, MC5, UFO, Stone Sour, Def Leppard, Megadeth, Me and That Man, Arch Enemy, In This Moment, Black Label Society, Buckcherry, Kid Rock feat Gretchen Wilson, Jethro Tull, Metallica, Motörhead, Scorpions, Dan Patlansky, Samantha Fish, Diverted Disorder, Type O Negative, The Stranglers, Stiff Little Fingers, Sham 69, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Parkway Drive, Pantera, Nickelback, Rob Zombie, Piet Botha & Jack Hammer, Francois Van Coke.

So that, as they say, is a wrap.  2021 in its P.  Season 4 ended with episode 52 and it aired live on 30 Dec 2021 on Rebel Rock Radio.  It was a wonderful show featuring music released in 2021.   I ran out of time and should definitely have done a 4-hour show.  My biggest disappointment was not having enough time to play the title track from Deangersmith's amazing album Lead Us To Your Taker (Disable the Corrupt)  or what I consider to be the best SA release this year, a gem by metal outfit Sunken State called Solace in Solitude.  Other noticeable exceptions were Mastodon and Trivium and glaringly Dee Snider.  So with those apologies out the way and a commitment to fixing that in 2022 let's have a quick summing up.  The show kicked off fittingly with Tom Morello (feat Bring Me The Horizon) and a track called 'Let's Get this Party Started'.  From there we continued with Alice Cooper's 'Hanging By a Thread' off Detroit Stories and wound our way through US and UK releases to our first SA release, Albert Frost's title track 'Sacred Sound'.  Other SA talent featured included Dan Patlansky with 'Hounds Loose', Roland Suttie with 'Messages in My Head', and a stunning track from a band called Imagine&Nation out of Cape Town.  The song was called 'Rivers and Dreams' off an EP called Never Be Quiet.  I am hoping for more material from these guys in 2022.  They definitely got an additional sale on iTunes last night and well deserved too.  We checked out Nibs Van Der Spuy and Guy Buttery off Live in Lisbon.  Exodus put out the best seriously heavy album in my view, we took a listen to 'Elitist'.  Gary Holt has done amazing work on this album.  The last hour was a rush to get to the 6 tracks that really rounded out 2021 as a fantastic year in music.  My favourite SA song was 'Beautiful Evolution' by Springbok Nude Girls and my best overall song was 'My Love Remains' by Ayron Jones.  It's reminiscent of 'Purple Rain' and it's loaded with emotion and has an awesome solo and just hits the spot.  Comments on the Whatsapp line pretty much confirmed this song as being exceptionally good.  The L.A. Maybe, Smith / Kotzen, and Neil Young were in my top 5 and I gave 2nd favourite to Volbeat and played 'Wait A Minute My Girl' before closing off with my personal album of 2021, Doom Crew Inc from Black Label Society.  'Farewell Ballad' off this seriously good album closed a great year in music and marked the conclusion of Season 4 of The Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show.  Thanks for all the support and I hope to see you for Season 5.     Artists featured:  Tom Morello, Alice Cooper, Thunder, L.A. Guns, U.D.O., Albert Frost, Blaze Bayley, Joe Bonamassa, Gojira, Buckcherry, Todd la Torre, Billy Gibbons, Dan Patlansky, Image&Nation, Greta Van Fleet, Exodus, Me & That Man, Ricky Warwick, Michael Schenker, Iron Maiden, KK's Priest, Nibs Van Der Spuy & Guy Buttery, Roland Suttie, Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros, Foo Fighters, The Stranglers, The Pretty Reckless, Seether, Serj Tankian, Smith / Kotzen, The L.A. We are near the end of Season 4 now, as the season closes and we build to the 2021 wrap up we have episode 48 as a bitter-sweet reminder of how this year has gone.  The episode aired on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 2 Dec 2021.  The show kicked off with Thin Lizzy's 'Are You Ready'  and was followed by a whole host of tracks off albums released in '84 / '85.  These included Dokken, Qr, Deep Purple, and Hanoi Rocks with a track called 'Underwater World' off the brilliant Two Steps From The Move album.  I have most of these albums on vinyl and it is fantastic how good they still sound over 25 years later.  I am grateful that I was participating as much as I was during this prolific Metal Age.  I said hello to a few friends who had tuned in and we hit the Fo Fighters with 'Times Like THese' and Kid Rock's 'Wasting Time'.  There was a number of very special supporters of TSORR tuned in and it was great to shift the show in their direction.  A highlight for me was Rage Against the Machine's 'Killing in the Name'.  I don't think it has been played on the show before, for the life of me I don't know why.  It's a true masterpiece and the sentiment is probably more relevant today than ever before "fuck you I won't do what you tell me".  What a rallying cry in a world of politicians and bureaucrats hell-bent on deciding what's good for you.  Up until this point, the show was light on metal so I fixed that with a 3M triple play of Megadeth, Mercyful Fate, and Metallica and how they link up.  From here we had a bit of punk and some blues-based rock from our very own Dan Patlansky and the wonderful Samantha Fish.  Dan's new track 'Hounds Loose' is great, check it out.  On a personal note, I said cheers to a loving and loyal little black dog named Lara who we sadly had to put to sleep and I am sure that as this year draws to a close many of you can relate to the sadness that seems to permeate everything in 2021, Temple of the Dog with 'Say Hello 2 Heaven' and Judas Priest with 'Beyond The Realms of Death' did the job.  We ended with some more local stuff, Asylum Kids, The Uninvited, and The Fismits.   We closed with U2's masterpiece ' Moment of Surrender'.  The highlight for me was Lyzyrd Kyngs and Piet Botha's beautiful lyric, check it out and feel that piloerection.   Thin Lizzy, Hanoi Rocks, Vandenburg, Blackfoot, Deep Purple, Dokken, Q5, Rammstein, Volbeat, Stone Temple Pilots, Brownsville Station, Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, Black Label Society, Kiss, Rage Against The Machine, The Roling Stones, Jasper Dan, Lyzyrd Kyngs, Blues Scream, Megadeth, Mercyful Fate, Metallica, Mason Hill, The Clash, Ramones, The Offspring, Dan Patlansky, Samantha Fish, Temple of the Dog, Judas Priest, Asylum Kids, The Uninvited, The Fismits, ACDC, U2

Season 4  Episode 45 aired on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 11 Nov 2021.  I have to confess that I thoroughly enjoyed this episode very much.  It has been a rough week with load shedding in South Africa, we have had power outages for two to three hours at a time 3 to 4 hours a day.  There is a general feeling of burnout and a bit of high octane rock and roll was the best antidote in the world.  We kicked off in grand style with BulletBoys and a track called 'Hell on My Heels'  the immortal opening count-in from Marq Torien serving as a message to the government.  From there we continued with '80s metal in 2021 with Running Wild's latest release Blood on Blood and Mötley Crüe reminding us of how it was back in the day with 'Bad Boy Boogie' off Girls, Girls, Girls.  Then a trip back to the early '70s with Alice Cooper and Grandfunk Railroad.  And so it continued for a blistering 3 hours. It was wonderful to have 3 of the original TSORR supporters tuned in.  TSORR started on the community station Mix FM in Midrand JHB on 21 Dec 2017 and was on air between midnight and 2 am and 4 years later it is great to have some of those listeners still tuning in.  There was another amazing thing about this show,  in recent episodes, Sao Paulo Brazil and Tokyo Japan have become the top listeners of the show and I paid tribute to both.  In their honour, we checked out Sepultura and Loudness and raised a glass in appreciation of the support around the world as TSORR edges towards 15 000 listens.    There was some great SA music from blues master Dan Patlansky, a gritty track from Jasper Dan and a really excellent song by The Burning called 'Taking My Kindness'.  The Aussies got a look in as always with Cold Chisel and The Screaming Jets and Germany with a brand new track from Scorpions called 'Peacemaker', there was also the obligatory bit of Rammstein.   Check it out it was a jol.   PS, there was also the great exposure of the truth that Dee Snider is really Larry David :-)Artists featured:  Bulletboys, Running Wild, Mötley Crüe, Alice Cooper, Grand Funk Railroad, Disturbed, Therapy?, Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, Cold Chisel, The Screaming Jets, Blue Oyster Cult, Kiss, Guns ‘n' Roses, Death Angel, Iron Maiden, Greta Van Fleet, Massive Wagons, Twisted Sister, Motörhead, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Social Distortion, Dan Patlansky, Jasper Dan, Sepultura, Loudness, Kid Rock, John Cougar, Metallica, Wrathchild America, Scorpions, Mastodon, Black Label Society, The Burning, The L.A. S4E42 aired on Rebel Rock Radio on 21 Oct 2021.  I was in Clarens with my band the Bunk Girls Motorcycle Club on a guitar clinic with the most amazing Dan Patlansky so the episode felt a bit different from normal.  Having people around changes what you play and consequently, it's the first show that doesn't have something really heavy, no Slipknot, No Trivium, no Killswotch, sorry about that.  We kicked off in the usual way with some upbeat rock and roll from Buckcherry of the new album Hellbound,  Avenged Sevenfold's 'Girl I Know' off Diamonds in the Rough.  We stayed raucous for about  an hour and then got into the Neil Young, Springsteen phase before going really bluesy with the ladies, Larkin Po 9making a TSORR debut) and the wonderful Samantha Fish with a track called Down in the Swamp.   There was a nice stretch of SA music with Dan Patlansky and Albert Frost, two of the finest players around.  We paid special attention to Dan's tone and the fact that it is a product of a relentless lifelong search to get the right sound.   I then did something weird and played pretty much every band that the haters love to hate in a row.  I don't plan these things it just worked out like that.  All in all, I don't know what I think of this one, let's see what you think, comments as always are welcome, you can find The Story of Rock and Roll's Facebook page if you have anything to say about it.  Peace.    Artists featured:  Buckcherry, Avenged Sevenfold, Godsmack, Halestorm, Warrior Soul, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Stone Cherry, Massive Wagons, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Larkin Po, Samantha Fish, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Megadeth, Hellfighter, ACDC, Kiss, Rush, Springbok Nude Girls, Bed On Bricks, Dan Patlansky, Albert Frost, Hinder, Nickelback, Def Leppard, Greta Van Fleet, Supertramp, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, John Mellencamp, Kid Rock, L7, Marilyn Manson, Matthew Good Band, The Wildhearts, The Damned, Foo Fighters, Mötley Crüe

S4E30 aired on 7 Oct 2021 on Rebel Rock Radio.  We had the threat of load shedding once again but the power utility waited until the show was over before cutting us off.  I am grateful for that but the fact that they haven't been able to turn it back on against is an extreme source of irritation.  So, we started with 'Troublesome Times' by Texas Hippie Coalition and then went to Germany to catch Devils Train and a track called ' You and Me'.  We went old school with Saxon and Michael Schenker and then all the way back to the '70s for some Deep Purple and Grand Funk Railroad.  Dan Patlansky took care of the Blues with a track of his Perfection Kills album and then we checked out the KK's Priest album Sermon of a Sinner now that it is finally all released.  It is fully cool and the guitar work between KK and A.J. Mills is spectacular. Then there was an update on the incredible story of Richie Faulkner having a heart attack on stage while playing the final track 'Painkiller'. Richie has become the most metal oke on earth after finishing the song.  While his aorta ruptured filling his chest with blood, he faultlessly played all his solos and once the show was over was taken off to hospital and a ten and a half hour operation.  He is OK and we wish him a speedy recoveryThe new Guns 'n' Roses was great, we checked the new track called 'Hard Skool' and then said happy 70th birthday to John Mellencamp, can you believe he is 70!  We got our punk from The Stranglers and Stiff Little Fingers and then we checked out two tracks about the Orca, one from Legend of the Seagullmen and then a most poignant look at the plight of this most marvelous creature through the eyes of Johnathan Martin.  The song is extremely touching if you allow yourself to really connect with what he is saying.  We finished off with two very South African tracks that may be a bit of a mystery to non-SA listeners, trust me they are both very relevant, happy to explain them to anyone who needs it.  We finished off with a little cheers to Van Halen legend who announced his retirement this week with the final words "Stay Frosty".  Enjoy it Dave you have earned it and you gave us fun by the ton m/ respect.Artists featured:  Texas Hippie Coalition, Devil's Train, Dropkick Murphys, Michael Schenker Group, Dee Snider, Five Finger Death Punch, Grand Funk Railroad, Deep Purple, Candlebox, Danko Jones, Dan Patlansky, Bush, Korn, Heaven& Hell, KK's Priest, Judas Priest, Jimmy Barnes, Powderfinger, Adrenaline Mob, Gary Clark Jr., Guns ‘n' Roses, Joe Satriani, Pop Evil, Kiss, John Mellencamp, The Doors, The Stranglers, Stiff Little Fingers, Johnathan Martin, Legend of the Seagullmen, Mark Morton, ACDC, The Temperance Movement, Koos Kombuis, The Cherry Faced Lurchers, Van Halen

This has been quite a palaver to get this episode out, after two days of wifi problems I finally managed to get it out so apologies for that.  Episode 38 of season 4 aired on 23 Sept 2021 at 19h00 on rebel Rock Radio.  It was quite different due to the unusual amount of South African music from unsigned acts.  We kicked off with The Clash by accident when Thin Lizzy 'Suicide' didn't load and I had to act fast with 'Clash City Rockers'.  From there on it was an hour of classic rock with Motörhead, Ozzy, Van Halen, Bowie, AX7 and Rammstein.I spent a bit of time discussing how Dan Patlansky is not only one of the most talented guitarists on the planet but has also contributed to SA music more than most through his guitar clinics which have inspired many amateurs to get stuck in and start getting their music out there.  Two such artists, Roan Ash and Roland Suttie are examples of this and were featured next.  We also took a listen to Dean Smith and his track 'Freedom Fighter' under the Deanangersmith monicker.  Dean is a SA Metal legend having been a mainstay of bands such as Odyssey, Ragnärok, Brothering, and Mouthful of Flies, he is absolutely prolific and deserves more recognition.  He also doesn't give a fuck what you think and that is what makes him so endearing :-)  We checked out another track from Mark Biagio and The Fismits and then got stuck into the brand new Stranglers album called Dark Matters.  I was extremely complimentary and made it clear once again just how much I love The Stranglers.  We did a bit of anger management with Fokofpolisiekar 'Angs Aanval' and Hatebreed with Black Flags 'Thirsty and Miserable.  All in all, it was one of my most enjoyable shows.  Hope you dig it.    Artists featured:  The Clash, Thin Lizzy, Mason Hill, Rammstein, Rob Zombie, Blue Öyster Cult, David Bowie Motörhead, Night Ranger, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, Avenged Sevenfold, Tyr, Deanangersmith, The Fismits, the Pretty Reckless, Samantha Fish, Dan Patlansky, Roan Ash, Roland Suttie, ACDC, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, California Breed, Gojira, Marilyn Manson, The Stranglers, Seether, Dirty Honey, Airbourne, Fokofpolisiekar, Hatebreed, Mark Knopfler, Foo Fighters, The Gaslight Anthem, Billy Joe Armstrong
