We had a great time talking with Lauren about music as the constant in her life, wearing every single hat as a working musician, and females with huge voices who don't hold back (likeLauren!). We also geek out over arts and crafts!    This soulful rocker, originally from Chicago, has had a passion for singing throughout her entirelife. Growing up in a household that was rich in music, her influences were widely varied from artists such as Susan Tedeschi, Bonnie Raitt, The Pointer Sisters, Eva Cassidy, Etta James, Joss Stone, Kelly Clarkson, and many more.   Despite these modern musical influences, Lauren was classically trained throughout most of her early life. She began classical piano lessons at the age of 8, was an active member of several choirs and began taking classical voice lessons when she began high school. She eventually took her love of singing to the Quad Cities and obtained a Bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on voice at Augustana College. During her college years she spent a summer living inNovafeltria, Italy, learning the language and touring and studying opera. Initially she planned on becoming an opera singer, but quickly realized that rock and soul music were more her style.    Since moving to Nashville, Lauren has continued to tour and release new music. Her album, “Love on the Rocks” that was released in the summer of 2021 debuted at #14 on the BillboardBlues Chart, #4 on Roots Music Report & #21 on the NACC Blues Charts. Anderson has opened for bands such as Beth Hart, Ana Popovic and Mike Zito. Zito was also a featured artist on her sophomore album, on the tune "Back to Chicago". She just released her third full-length album, “Burn it all Down”, which features Albert Castiglia on the track “Zombie Blues” and JohnSalaway on “Hit The Spot.”   Check her out here:  Website: laurenandersonmusic.com  IG: laurenandersonmusic  FB: Lauren Anderson

Thanks to her father, the Belgrade-raised Popovic was introduced to the blues at an early age, through his wide-ranging record collection and jam sessions hosted at the Popovic home. Born on May 13, 1976, Popovic took up guitar when she was a teenager and formed her first band, Hush, in 1995. Within a year, with the collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe, she was playing blues festivals in Greece and Hungary and working as an opening act for American blues masters, including Junior Wells.Popovic recorded her debut album with Hush in 1999, when she also moved to the Netherlands to study jazz guitar and world and pop music at the Conservatory of Music. She had the chance to see blues guitarist Bernard Allison at a club in Germany. He asked her to come on-stage and jam at the end of the show. While Allison invited Popovic to join him on a tour, she had to get back to the Jazz Academy in Holland. Allison asked for a copy of Popovic's record with Hush, and he sent it on to executives at Ruf Records in Germany, who were impressed with Popovic's powerful guitar playing and singing. Ruf contacted her to be part of their Jimi Hendrix tribute compilation, and then signed her to a recording deal of her own.Several months after this, she was on her way to Memphis to record Hush! The album was well received by blues radio programmers and the non-blues purist segments of the American, European, and Canadian blues festival circuits. In the spring of 2001, she performed at the Memphis in May Festival alongside Bob Dylan, the Black Crowes, and Ike Turner. Within five years of leaving Yugoslavia, Popovic, now in her late twenties, had the chance to perform at many of the major European blues festivals, including Peer, Bishopstock, and Notodden. Along the way she's sat in with the likes of Allison, Michael Hill, and Kenny Neal.Popovic has two albums out on the New Jersey-based Ruf Records America label, Hush!, released in 2000, and Comfort to the Soul, her 2003 release. Jim Gaines and David Z., who have worked with other blues-rockers, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana, and Jonny Lang, had roles in recording and mixing both albums. Five of Popovic's sparkling originals shine on Comfort to the Soul, including her...

Phantom Electric Ghost Interviews Pop Groove Duo ROSAWAY ROSAWAY is a Parisian pop duo consisting of Rachel Ombredane and Stéphane Avellaneda, whose music is born from an unlikely and original combination: the flute and the drums. Bringing a refreshing ‘'french touch'' to the table, Rachel's soothing voice beautifully bind together the pair's instrumentation. With a pleasant reminiscence to 70's theme-song-style grooves, ROSAWAY combines vintage sounds with modern blend of the present and past. Both musicians have deeply honed their crafts and careers: Rachel earned her Bachelor's in flute, Diploma in music teaching and Masters in musicology at the Sorbonne in Paris and the Vocal Academy. And with an ambition to explore different musical genres, she found herself on television sets singing with international artist such as Ed Sheeran, Jain, Broken Back, and in prestigious venues such as the Zenith of Paris. Over his career, SteF has become a renown blues drummer and international touring artist. SteF started his professional journey as part of the blues band Mercy, and soon after that was propelled to the big stage alongside the Serbian guitarist Ana Popovic. He became her official drummer and has toured around the world to over thirty countries, having shared stage with legends such as BB King, Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang. The naturally charming Big Boy Bloater knows what makes musicians tick and how to get inside their head, which is what makes The Blues Podcast so special – to find out about the person behind the music. It's a chat amongst friends where they sit down and chew the fat of life and what has shaped them into who they are.

Talking with Jason Ricci is one of the most popular harmonica players on the planet today. Listed in almost every top ten list of players on the internet today Jason Ricci is a polarizing force always in the spotlight and on the tips of critics, artists and fans tongue's everywhere. Through two-plus decades of endless touring, TV appearances, recordings, and the internet Jason Ricci's style of playing is so revolutionary and influential that there exists an entire younger generation of players imitating his music, clothes, gear, and even stage presence. Nicknamed “Moon Cat” (a street name he once used in Nashville and New Orleans to avoid police detection) Jason has been an almost constant force for decades in the studio, festivals, club dates, and press. Love him or hate him, through performing, singing, songwriting, teaching, harmonica playing and activism in the fields of L.G.B.T., mental health and addiction, it is not an overstatement that this young, white, queer, skateboarding, punk rock-loving, multiple convicted felony having Moon Cat from Maine is currently changing the world through music and education. Jason was a featured performer on Johnny Winter's Grammy award-winning CD ‘Step Back' (2014) Has received multiple Blues Music Award Nominations 2009 – 2016, and won a Blues Music Award in 2010. We're in a festive mood in the 280th Roadhouse. I took the show on the road this week to the 26th annual IH Mississippi Valley Blues Festival in Davenport, IA. Tight to the banks of the Mississippi, it's one of the longest-running and most well-respected festivals in the country. Bernard Allison, Ana Popovic, Billy Branch, Hubert Sumlin, and Legendary Rhythm & Blues Revue fill the 280th Roadhouse with festival music. It's blues you've probably heard, but it's still an hour of undoubtedly fine music - the 280th Roadhouse.

This edition of The Roadhouse proves a few things. First of all, that a lot of the music in The Roadhouse might not be exactly what you think of when you think of blues. And, that the sawdust on the dance floor is there for a reason. Bobby Jones, Ana Popovic, Watermelon Slim, Memphis Minnie, and The Twisters are side by side, speaking to the broad range of the blues. They clearly declare that you're in for another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 233rd Roadhouse.

The 159th Roadhouse Podcast is an upbeat affair. You might call it jump, you might call it swing, you might call it boogie. There's even a liberal sprinkling of West Coast blues. But if you follow the walking bass, you'll know that's it clearly a jumpin' edition of The Roadhouse. Mark Hummel, Jay McShann, Ana Popovic, William Clarke, and Rick Holmstrom will make you move and groove for another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 159th Roadhouse Podcast.
