THE DEEP CONTROL presents ... Pale Penguin (Greece) PALE PENGUIN is one of the key figures in the Greek electronic scene. Based in Thessaloniki, Greece, he's been djing for almost 30 years now. On his portfolio there are appearances in big festivals (Sola Luna, Balkan Voices, Urban Rhythm, Reworks, Butterfly, Spring Festen, Summer3P, Kapani Project) alongside Slam, Felix Da Housecat, Dave Angel, Luke Slater, Dominic Eulberg, Modeselektor, Rob Luis (Tru Thoughts), Coldcut, Octave One, Eddie Piller etc, and many venues throughout Greece and Europe. He has done warm-up sets to artists like Rjd2, Thievery Corporation, Richard Dorfmeister, Nightmares On Wax, Kid Loco, DJ Mushroom (Massive Attack), Frank Popp, Bjorn Torske, Bentley's Rhythm Ace, Snowboy, Hooverphonic, Andy Smith, Meat Katie, Lee Coombs, Kevin Sauderson, Aidan Lavelle, Ursula 1000, Malente etc. For almost 12 years he was resident dj in the legendary Bar/Clubs “Elvis” and “Liebe” presenting Friday's “Breaktech” nights while he have presented special dj sets for Thessaloniki's International Fair, Thessaloniki's International Film Festival and for the bigger Balkans Hip-Hop/Funk/Breaks event “Battle of The Year”. He's got many exclusive mix sets for global net radios, a series of exclusive mix CDs for Freeze magazine and he's the main compiler of the Electronica/Balearic compilation series “Return To Paradise” for V.I.M.RECORDS. He is a dedicated radio producer with many radio shows in Thessaloniki's best underground radio stations 88,5FM & REPUBLIC FM while lately he's a regular producer on TOPIKAP RADIO. Additionally he was the main music contributor to Greek music and urban culture magazines “Freeze”, “Soundmaker” and “Crawford Magazine”.
His production activities begun with SCOPITONE CONSPIRACY and POZITRONIC RAY in early 2000s, from 2006 to 2012 he was a member of THE SCIENTIFICS (a Breaks/Tech project which have released singles and remixes for labels like V.I.M.Breaks, Erase, Basstard, Yellow Finger Communications, Warriorz Music, Relax and Groovebox), In early 2009 together with Kid Stretch he have formed the Disco-Breaks project PALE THE KID (focused mainly in Electrofunky/Disco-Breaks sound they have managed to release singles and remixes for Breakbeat Paradise, V.I.M.Breaks, Dirty Drop Records, Warriorz Music and Timewarp Music). Hi Everyone, a little later than planned due to to a technical issue with the upload but here is last weeks 'After School Club' podcast. Very much a Latin-Jazz feel in this show as we hit the ground running with Abel Gonzalez, Joe Sample & Randy Crawford, Snowboy & The Latin Section, Stanley Clarke and Oli Silk. The a few of my favourite 80's soul artists, Steve Arrington, Kleeer and Patrice Rushen. We went rare with a jazz funk classic from Johnny Hammond (Fantasy) and also held onto the vibe with Joe McBride, Ahmad Jamal and Pieces Of A Dream. Most recently Blake was seen playing Elder Price in the musical "The Book of Mormon" across Australia and New Zealand, a role for which in 2019 he was nominated for a Helpmann Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. ​ Blake's other recent leading roles include Perchik in Fiddler on the Roof (TML), Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd (Victorian Opera), Edward Lyons in Blood Brothers (Enda Markey Presents), Anthony Pemberton in Beyond Desire (Neil Rutherford Productions) and Lt. Joseph Cable in South Pacific (Opera Australia/GFO). ​ In 2018 Blake produced and performed his solo show and released his debut EP “Blake Bowden: Straight From The Hart” featuring the reimagined songs of Rodgers and Hart (Noosa Alive!). ​ Other theatre credits include: Tony in Masterclass (LeftBauer Prods), Lysander in A Midsummer Nights Dream (Belvoir). In 2014 and 2016, Blake starred as Mario Lanza, alongside Phil Scott in the hit cabaret MARIO (Adelaide Cabaret Festival/Hayes Theatre/Canberra Theatre/Noosa Long Weekend Festival). ​ Screen roles include Young Jack in the film The Dam, Brusco in Home and Away, Mr & Mrs Murder, The Chaser and as the Young Boy Pirate in The Wiggles Movie. ​ In 2011 Blake was the winner of The Rob Guest Endowment Award and in 2013 Blake received the Gertrude Johnson Fellowship at The Opera Studio Melbourne.
