This episode of Seeing Them Live features an in-depth and in-person conversation with Ray the Roadie and Hollywood Mike, hosts of the Rock and Roll Chicago podcast. Joined by producer and co-host Doug Florzak, the episode was recorded inside the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum on Route 66 in downtown Joliet, Illinois, where the Rock and Roll Chicago podcast is also recorded. The Rock and Roll Chicago podcast provides a platform for bands and musicians from the Chicago area, delving into the history of rock and roll in Chicago and Illinois, the current scene, and the challenges and opportunities for musicians today. Mike and Ray share humorous anecdotes, such as Mike jokingly proposing 'The Procrastinators' as a name for his next punk band, and Mike mentioning his varied musical activities, including performing with bands like Cadillac Groove and Mike and the Stillmasters, and his solo work. Mike also uncovers a rich musical heritage after meeting a cousin who fronts a Zydeco band in Louisiana, leading him to discover his extended family's significant contributions to various facets of the entertainment industry. Ray recounts his multifaceted career journey, involving roadie work, being a firefighter for 28 years, and later diving back into music and podcasting post-retirement. Personal anecdotes include Ray's memories of his first concert, seeing Chicago Transit Authority, and his best concert experience with ZZ Top, where he enjoyed backstage access and partied with the band. Mike fondly recalls his first concert, a Billy Squire show with Def Leppard as the opener, and his best concert experience, which was a transformative Buddy Guy performance that inspired him to become a musician. The episode concludes with Ray and Mike previewing their plans for upcoming podcast episodes and discussing the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum's ongoing development and various exhibits, including guitars from Buddy Guy, and its status as a non-profit organization reliant on donations and memberships for support.BANDS: 4 Non-Blondes, Alison Krauss, Billy Joel, Billy Squire, Buddy Guy, Cadillac Groove, Def Leppard, Flat Cats, Iron Maiden, Joker, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mabel's, Mike and the Still Masters, Outlaws, Rage Against A Machine, REO Speedwagon, REM, Robert Plant, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Train, Vulgar Boatmen, Wrought Iron Soul, ZZ Top.VENUES: Alpine Valley, Chicago Theater, El Macomber, Illinois Rock and Roll Museum, Illinois Rock and Roll Museum on Route 66, International Amphitheater, Mabel's, Ravinia, Rialto Square Theater, Rosemount Horizon, Route 66, Taste of Westmont, The Amphitheater, The Flat Cats, The Forge, The Riviera Theater. Join @thebuzzknight as he delves into the guitar mastery of Gary Myrick, a versatile musician whose six- string prowess has left an indelible mark on the music industry. From his early days in Texas blues bands to his innovative new wave sound, Myrick's guitar work has consistently stood out for its distinctiveness and energy. Gary's journey began in Dallas, where he honed his chops playing in local blues and roots-rock bands. His talent was evident early on, as he was chosen to replace none other than Stevie Ray Vaughan in the band Kracker Jack. This early exposure to Texas blues would continue to influence his playing style throughout his career. Gary Myrick's guitar prowess continues to evolve, his recent EP, "The Sum of All My Sins" demonstrates his ongoing exploration of the instrument, blending his electric and acoustic skills with a deep understanding of blues and rock traditions. This might explain why Medicare Advantage plans are losing their support. More former supporters from each side of the aisle are wavering. The Wikipedia entry for Medicare makes the point that the public expresses more support for government programs that are universal than those that are means tested. MD Anderson, in Houston, has failed to come to agreement and will not remain in Medicare Advantage networks of the Texas Blues. Thanks to a security breach and the evil HIPPA legislation, about one million Medicare participants will be getting new cards with new identifiers (numbers). Finally, I was able to view graphs illustrating the dramatic effect that inflation has had on the premium rates of Plans G and N. Too bad those poor victims weren't enrolled in the High Deductible Plan G (HDG) plans touted by Medicare for the Lazy Man! Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Angela StrehliHusky-voiced blues and soul singer Angela Strehli has often been called the "First Lady of Texas Blues." Indeed, her contributions both on and off stage have done much to propel the Austin blues scene toward international prominence. Whether recording with such friends as Marcia Ball, Lou Ann Barton, Sue Foley, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, or helping mastermind policies behind the success of Antone's---the legendary Austin blues club---she has performed with unerring taste and verve. For a major modern blues figure, the sultry blonde has not recorded prolifically, preferring to treat each album as a special event. However, the albums she has chosen to share with the public are remarkably entertaining and expressive slices of gut-bucket blues revival and scintillating uptown soul.

Worship - What does it mean? Is there a right way to do it? What if God doesn't like Hip-Hop or the electric guitar solo? Can worship music become its own idol? Why do churches do it the way they do it? This whole conversation starts off with Sean seeing a Texas Blues player over the weekend and it just went there.

Texas singer/songwriter/guitar-slinger A. Wright has been hitting it hard over the last 9 years. Since the age of 16, he's racked up numerous accolades ranging from opening for country legends Steve Wariner and Johnny Lee, Blues Artist Carolyn Wonderland, playing along side Texas Blues legends Alan Haynes and Jackie Newhouse (ex-Stevie Ray Vaughan), to playing all around Texas (San Antonio, Austin, San Angelo, Boerne/Sisterdale, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Fredricksburg, Bend, Llano, etc.) and competing in the International Blues Challenge twice (Memphis, TN) (Band category in 2017 and Solo/Duo Semifinalist in 2020) represeting the San Angelo Blues Society. He currently has two releases with his first release “The Way That I Am” coming out in 2018 and the newest release “Acoustic” being released in late 2021.His music is an amalgamation of Blues, Country, Rock, Folk, Americana, etc. You'll see him around playing solo shows or going electric with the band. This is episode may or may not contain adult content such as strong language, references to smoking, alcohol, sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll. As season two continues, I am thrilled to have John Chipman on the show today. He has been playing music professionally for over 25 years and has played with an insane amount of musicians from the Resentments (who I so love!), Slaid Cleaves, Band of Heathens, David Grissom (who I think defines what Texas Blues really is), and of course my favorite, Kelley Mickwee. If you ask me, I think he is a top three drummer here in Austin. He has toured numerous times in Europe and the Far East. He moved to Austin after studying music and graduating from the University of Oklahoma. In the 2007-2008 Austin Chronicle Music Awards, he won best drummer. In Modern Drummer, he passes along some tidbits of what he has learned from other musicians: Never ask of music. When you expect music to do things for you, it will not happen. Music itself is the reward. If any success or fame comes as a result of playing music, be forever thankful, because you have already experienced more than 95% of the people who have ever picked up a pair of drumsticks have. The fewer notes you play, the more money per note you are making. Save your big stuff for the last chorus of the last song in the encore. Never play in a trio with a husband and wife. Never cop an attitude. There is always somebody better than you. If you see someone who might not be up to your personal yardstick, watch even closer, they will teach you something you didn't know. Late in season one, I implemented quizzes into the mix and this will continue on future podcasts and this will continue for the foreseeable future. Don't matter what I'm going to ask. It's all fun and smiles. Texas is drunk ya'll. Why is this weather such a big deal for people? I think many people don't know the magnitude of the situation and say things like "it's just a little snow", but that is far from the full truth. Today, we at the Real Estate Lab are going to teach a wo/man to fish instead of just giving them fish in case something like this happens again. @ianofaustin @libertywalkerrealtor @jj_swings_real_estate @buysellwithcrystaltx #movingtoaustin #homebuyer #homesforsale #realestateagent #hometour #realtor #youtuber #austintexas --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ianofaustin/support

Born and raised in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Corey was exposed to music from his father, mother and guitar playing uncles. This exposure to music of all types at an early age, helped to lay a foundation of passion, versatility and appreciation of what music is, where it comes from, and what it should be.Realizing at an early age that music and the guitar would be his life’s focus, Corey moved to Pittsburgh, PA to attend the Art Institute Of Pittsburgh. There, Corey studied audio engineering but, didn’t get into music production officially until a few years after graduation. In the late 1990’s Pittsburgh had a vibrant music scene rich with blues, R&B, and original Rock. Corey shot up through the ranks by hanging out with the city’s best players who helped in honing his skills and overall musical maturity. In 2005, Corey produced his first EP for a local country artist and his love of the studio began to blossom. Corey became an in demand session player in Pittsburgh and began to produce projects for singer-songwriters. His projects ran the gamut of styles that showed off his ability on instruments other than the guitar.Over a 10-year period as an instructor, Corey has taught hundreds of students ranging in age, from six to eighty years old. A decade’s worth of guitar instruction helped to connect Corey to the world’s leader in online guitar instruction, TrueFire. Corey released his first official TrueFire course entitled, 50 Texas Blues Licks You Must Know, in 2011 and his fate as a worldwide guitar instructor was sealed. Since the launch of 50 Texas Blues, Corey continues to release top selling courses of all ability ranges through TrueFire. His passion for teaching and presenting lends itself to the world of musical instrument demonstration as well. From early childhood his twin obsessions of traditional music and acoustic guitar have worked together to produce a startlingly original approach to this ancient art. In Tony’s hands the complex ornamentation normally associated with fiddles and pipes are accurately transferred to guitar in a way that preserves the integrity and emotional impact of the music. His ability to reach audiences unfamiliar with traditional music is remarkable- he is quite comfortable at predominantly classical events such as the Dundee and Derry Guitar Festivals (appearing six times between the two) the Uppsala Guitar Festival and even The Bogotá International Guitar Festival where he followed virtuoso Eduardo Fernandez.
It is an honor and privilege to have today’s guest on My Top Five Records podcast. Mike Flanigin is in my humble opinion the best B3 player around. He playing consistently at CBoys with Jimmie Vaughn, at least when that Covid dude isn’t wreaking havoc on us. Come on Covid. Can’t you leave us alone? So yeah, he plays with Jimmie. He is also buds with Billy Gibbons and has performed with ZZ Top, Steve Miller, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Willie Nelson, Charlie Sexton, Doyle 2 and Bonnie Raitt to name a few. I actually opened up for him once at our mutual friend, Tom Amiss’, annual party One of my favorite stories is how he used to tour as a guitarist with a LA band and returned to Austin to join the Antone’s Nightclub house band. That’s when he decided to change instruments and start playing the B3. He hooked up with organ legend Big John Patton to learn the craft. And guess what, Big John has a record in Mike’s top five. In 2015 he released his debut record called The Drifter. Rolling Stone said, “The Drifter is a road trip-worthy record that veers from punk rock to desert pop to Bible Belt Blues, it’s disparate parts glued together with the swirl and swoon of B3 organ. This is day-driving mood music, with Flanigin creating his own version of atmospheric Americana.” And just this year, he dropped a brand new record called West Texas Blues and born out of his and Sue Foley’s Texas Blues Party that they streamed live on Facebook. They went into the studio as a three piece. Just Sue, Mike and Chris “Whipper” Layton of Double Trouble. I quote Flanigin saying about the record, “As much as I labored over The Drifter album, which took me three years to make, and I had a lot of different types of genres, and people, and guests, this was the exact opposite.” Flanigin said. “This was ‘Let’s go in and let’s do what we do,’ and we play the blues. That’s what we’ve been doing our whole lives.” I was driving back from Houston yesterday and thought I would put it on. Well I did and I could not turn it off for the entire ride home. If you like the blues, you’ve got to check it out. An All Star cast of blues legends kicking out an homage to some Texas Blues music. So PLEASE people go out there and support music. Support the artists that make you groove. Allow those who create to keep creating. Get out there or go online and buy Mike Flanigin’s new record. While you’re at it, I’d recommend you pick up The Drifter as well. We talked about how he knew Lazy Lester and how Texas music is for dancers. We talked about how Billy Gibbons plays on 7 strings and how that shows in his touch AND how he knows professional card tricks. It was like a history lesson. We had a slight technical difficulty and about 10 mintues got cut from our conversation. It was primarily about Billy Gibbons. We talked about Dusty has motorboat fingers and that is what makes ZZ Top ultimately unique. He also talks about how he likes to record live in the studio and how he started singing again because Jimmie Vaughn pretty much made him when they were on tour. What also got cut was where you can find him online. You spell Mike’s last name F L A N I G I N.
