The Tom Renz Show – As I watched Hamlin collapse on live television, my first reaction was to pray for him, his family, his teammates, and his fans. Immediately after my prayers, I was filled with anger. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes the return of Marques Travae. Although born in the US, Travae moved to Brazil and lived there for years. He's been back in the states for a little over a year. We've spoke with him about White Supremacy/Racism in South America a number of times over the years. Gus checked on his work following the death of beloved footballer Pelé. The 82-year-old soccer legend was honored all over the world - even while Whites acknowledged the Racism Pelé endured for the duration of his life. We'll discuss the response to his passing in Brazil and what non-white people around the world should know about this Victim of White Supremacy. We'll also discuss the new Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Former president Jair Bolsonaro skipped the normal transfer of power and drowned his misery in the Florida sunshine. Travae seems to think this new ruler does not represent an improvement and should not be a beacon of hope for black Brazilians. We'll also make time to discuss his recent report on "black male privilege in Brazil." With all of the poverty and state violence against black people in South America, its staggering to think anyone would endorse such a loony theory. #BallGames #GlobalSystem INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

We’re back with Pops and my cousin Dana to continue our lively discussion about black male privilege. In part 1 of this conversation, I define black male privilege to get us on the same page, and Pops and Dana express their feelings on if they agree that black men are more privileged than black women. We got into issues about men needing to feel in charge and assert power, traditional lines of gendered responsibility possibly being erased, the possibility of recent history slowly being written to benefit black women more, and the lack of black women highlighted in African-American history in school. Then, I started sharing privileges from a checklist I discovered written by Jewel Woods about the ways in which black men have an advantage over black women. This week, we debate more black male privileges from the checklist. We also talk about how important it is to recognize those privileges, starting with the question we left off with in episode 5, “Who has more marriage or cohabitation options after a divorce: men or women?” Let’s get into it!We hope you enjoy what you hear today. If you do, let other people know by writing us a review and rating our podcast on Apple with five stars. And if you haven’t already, make sure you hit the subscribe button so you won’t miss a single episode! In this episode:[02:30] - According to the people Pops and Dana know, are men or women more likely to end up in a relationship after divorce?[06:49] - True or false: as a male coach, can you motivate, punish, or embarrass a player by saying that the player plays like a girl?[08:45] - Pops doesn’t think others see the “play like a girl” insult as a big deal. But if a girl heard that, how would she feel?[10:21] - Brittney still sees this kind of insult in use and recalls a recent example.[12:01] - Joking about women can reflect how you treat women in real life. Brittney emphasizes that word choice matters.[14:07] - For equitable dynamics between men and women, people need open dialogue and awareness, but only women are really driving the conversation.[16:06] - Brittney points out that it’s a privilege in and of itself for Pops to not have to carry the conversation forward.[17:31] - True or false: men can use language such as “hittin-it” to convey images of sexual acts based on dominance and performance.[18:43] - Do women have their own locker room talk regarding sex? If so, is it similar to men’s?[21:04] - Brittney highlights that Pops and Dana are conflating sports locker room talk with rap.[23:40] - How are Pops and Dana supporting the movement for more equality between the sexes?[28:30] - Brittney expresses hope that Pops and Dana won’t be afraid to call out their friend’s or other men’s behavior when they see it.[29:10] - Brittney ends the episode with a few final thoughts.Links and Resources:The Black Male Privileges Checklist by Jewel WoodsGirl Talk With Pops@GirlTalkWithPops on InstagramGirl Talk With Pops on FacebookGirl Talk With Pops on Apple Podcasts

This. Is. The. Remix. You can also consider this a sequel to last year's episode on the same topic. Either way, it's that time again and we're talking about Black Male Privilege. Last year we dropped an episode called, "Black Male What? | The Black Male Privilege Episode" and it received a ton of feedback. So this year we're dropping part 2 of that conversation featuring our guest Bemo Brown who had very strong feelings towards the episode. So we get into what Black Male Privilege is, a definition of it from L'Heureux Lewis and why this conversation is important when we talk about the future of the Black community. Tune in now. Does black male privilege exist? If you talk to most black men they will openly agree that privilege is a real thing among their white male counterparts. However, if you ask is their black male privilege there is a wide variety of reactions and opinions. What does black male privilege look like? Is it the same white male privilege? Are there any unique responsibilities or obligations black men have toward black women?
When talking about brotherhood, how often do we include gay brothers into that conversation? As a society we've made progress in terms of LGBTQ rights, but we certainly have a long way to go in order to be better brothers to gay men especially in our community. On today's episode we talk with The Great Jayden aka Jayden Hollywood about the relationship between gay and straight black men. On Let's Talk Bruh we talk a lot about masculinity from a straight male perspective, but it's important to talk about the differences from our gay brothers as well. We bring back some concepts from our Black Male Privilege episode and even touch on what Black Male Privilege looks like from a gay black man's perspective. There's no way we could cover it all in one episode, but without a doubt there's a ton we can learn from each other. We're hitting yall from all angles today! We value the small and growing community that we're building with the #LetsTalkBruh fam so in this episode we really wanted to include yall in the conversation. Coming off of last week's Black Male Privilege Episode we wanted to recap the episode a bit, respond to some feedback as well as some pushback we received. It was important for us to address some of our blind spots with topics we may have missed during the discussion as well as speak to the responses folks had with the episode. But that's not all. If you've been following us on social media you've seen us ask for your questions and today we'll be responding to a few. We even introduced a brand new segment titled: This Week In Toxic Masculinity. Needless to say, this episode was a lot of fun.
Black. Male. Privilege. The mere idea of this concept is controversial and causes pushback for many of us. But let's talk about it because this is real. As Black Men we exist in a rather unique space of both oppression AND privilege. However when we talk about Black Male Privilege, first and foremost, we are not saying we possess the same privilege that white people and white men do. Black Male Privilege is based on the privilege that we experience in relation to Black Women. Black Male Privilege also does not deny the oppression, racism, and prejudice that we as Black Men experience, but causes us to listen and acknowledge Black Women's experiences with oppression which differs from ours and take accountability for the ways in which we can be oppressive to Black Women (physical & sexual abuse to name a few). If the idea of Black Male Privilege makes you uncomfortable, good. This episode is for you. Note: The Black Male Privileges Checklist by Jewel Woods as well as work from L'Hereux Lewis, and Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw were referenced to help guide parts of our discussion. This week, shortly after multi-hyphenate artist Donald Glover blew up the internet with the video for his song "This is America," Wesley and guest host Rembert Browne (New York Magazine, Grantland) explore Glover's career, and how he evolved from a likable comedian to a cultural provocateur and authority on blackness. We like Glover's brain and the music and TV he is making, but we also wonder about the speed with which he's been anointed a "genius." Who gets left out when we apply that label so liberally to men? What do women have to do to be considered geniuses? More specifically, why aren't we using that term for black women? And is there such a thing as black male privilege?Jenna will be back next week. Dr. Athena D. Mutua visits The Context of White Supremacy. The Floyd H. & Hilda L. Hurst Faculty Scholar at the University of Buffalo's School of Law, Professor Mutua examines the areas of critical race and feminist legal theory. She edited the collection Progressive Black Masculinities, which deconstruts how White Supremacy is designed to deny black males access to patriarchy. Her work challenges notions about black males benefiting from patriarchy. We'll ask get Dr. Mutua's observations on the election of Donald J. Trump and how his White House tenure will impact black people. We're anxious to hear her thoughts on the surprising report that the majority of White Women voters supported Trump. We'll also get her reflections on former Brooklyn prosecutor Ken Thompson; he died earlier this year after laboring with cancer. #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943# The C.O.W.S. archives: http://tiny.cc/76f6p
