In this episode, Dawn welcomes Kevin, co-creator of the YouTube true crime channel Just Thought Lounge, to talk about the tragic case of Tony Parsons. Tony, a 63-year-old former Navy officer and cancer survivor, went missing during a solo charity bike ride in 2017. The episode describes the harrowing details of Tony's disappearance, the subsequent discovery of his remains in 2021, and the shocking confession by Alexander McKellar, who, along with his brother Robert, was responsible for Tony's death. The discussion highlights the critical role of Caroline Muirhead, who bravely gathered evidence against the brothers despite immense personal risk and police pressure. In this episode, Dawn is joined by Kay from the podcast Fuck My Work Life, and the pair talk about the unsolved murder of 50 year old Elizabeth Mackintosh. Elizabeth Mackintosh was born in Scotland in 1940. She grew up in a devout family; her father, James, was a theology professor and later a moderator for the Free Church of Scotland. Elizabeth worked as a nurse and health visitor in Edinburgh, then a social worker in London, before moving to America. In St. Louis, she was a student at The Covenant Theological Seminary, working towards a master's degree in biblical counselling while also working part-time as a cleaner to finance her studies.Tragically, Elizabeth was found murdered in the seminary's men's toilet on 26 March 1990. The investigation into her death saw multiple suspects but ultimately remained unresolved, even as new leads emerged over the years. Despite advances in forensic technology and renewed efforts by the police, the case remains open, with the prime suspect, a fellow student and Elizabeth's cleaning supervisor, never charged due to insufficient evidence. Elizabeth's remaining family continue to seek closure for this heinous crime that took away a beloved sister and daughter. Elizabeth's life and untimely death left an indelible mark on her community and all who knew her. Her story is one of dedication, faith, and the enduring quest for justice. You can listen to Fuck My Work Life wherever you listen to your podcasts. In 1980 Glasgow, the Main family's world was shattered when 13-year-old Tracy was found murdered at home. Despite no signs of forced entry, Tracy's body was discovered with multiple stab wounds and signs of a struggle. The investigation quickly focused on a neighbour of the Main family who had a mental age of eight and was known as “The Creeper”. It would be his disclosure of details that had not been released to the public that led to his arrest. However, everything was not as it seemed, which led to devastating consequences for the Main family who wanted justice for their daughter.Special Guest:Robbie from Cold Tapes, an innovative, first-of-its-kind audio experience, which is part podcast, part murder mystery game; an audio whodunnit competition where you can play detective.SOURCES:Please see our website for all source material and photos at scottishmurders.com/episodes/tracymainSHOW: Support Us: ko-fi.com/scottishmurdersPatreon - patreon.com/scottishmurdersMerch - teepublic.com/user/scottishmurdersWebsite - scottishmurders.comTwitter - @scottishmurdersInstagram - @scottishmurderspodcastFacebook - facebook.com/scottishmurdursYouTube - @ScottishMurdersLinktree - linktr.ee/scottishmurders CREDITS:Scottish Murders is a production of CluarantonnHosted by Dawn YoungResearched and Written by Dawn YoungEdited and Produced by Erin FergusonProduction Company Name by Granny RobertsonMUSIC:Dawn of the Fairies by Derek & Brandon Fiechter

This week Dawn is joined by John from the Persons Unknown podcast, who tells us the story of Ann Heron's unsolved murder.Part One:In the summer of 1990, Ann Heron's life was tragically cut short. John Dobson from the Persons Unknown podcast tells the story of this unsolved murder, tracing Ann's early life in Scotland, her move to England, and her marriage to Peter Heron. On a sweltering August day, after shopping in Darlington in the North East of England, Ann returned to Aeolian House. Ann's body was later found by her husband. With no murder weapon, a questionable sexual motive, and Peter's affair complicating the investigation, the case grew cold. Key sightings of a blue car and a mysterious jogger yielded no solid leads. Despite extensive efforts, including 5000 interviews and 2700 vehicles being checked, the identity of Ann's killer remains a mystery, leaving Ann and Peter's family searching for answers. In this episode we also hear from Ann's son, Ralph Cockburn.Thank you to John Dobson from the Persons Unknown podcast for researching and narrating this episode, and to Ralph for speaking with me and giving an insight into his mum, Ann Heron.SOURCES:Please visit Persons Unknown Podcast to listen to part two now! Please see our website for all source material and photos at https://scottishmurders.com/episodes/personsunknownSHOW:Support Us:ko-fi.com/scottishmurdersPatreon - patreon.com/scottishmurdersMerch - teepublic.com/user/scottishmurdersWebsite - scottishmurders.comTwitter - @scottishmurdersInstagram - @scottishmurderspodcastFacebook - facebook.com/scottishmurdursYouTube - @ScottishMurdersLinktree - linktr.ee/scottishmurdersCREDITS:Scottish Murders is a production of https://www.cluarantonn.com/Hosted by Dawn YoungResearched and Written by John Dobson from Persons Unknown PodcastEdited and Produced by Erin Ferguson - instagram.com/erinfergus0n/ and Johm Dobson from Persons Unknown podcastProduction Company Name by Granny RobertsonMUSIC:Dawn of the Fairies by Derek & Brandon Fiechter

In April 1981, 74-year-old Eliza Connelly was found dead in her home in a quiet residential area in Broughty Ferry in Dundee. She had 12 wounds to her head, two on her hands, fractured ribs, and blood was found everywhere from the floor to the ceiling. In 1959, teenagers James Denovan and Anthony Miller devised a scheme to rob homosexual men in Queen's Park Recreation Ground in Glasgow. They exploited the fact that homosexuality was illegal, knowing their victims would be unlikely to report the crimes. This continued until April 1960, when one of their victims, John Cremin, was killed. Initially, his death was thought to be accidental, but a post-mortem revealed that John had been murdered.Promo by Foul Play Crime Series SOURCES:Please see our website for all source material and photos at https://scottishmurders.com/episodes/johncreminSHOW: Support Us: ko-fi.com/scottishmurdersPatreon - patreon.com/scottishmurdersMerch - teepublic.com/user/scottishmurdersWebsite - scottishmurders.comTwitter - @scottishmurdersInstagram - @scottishmurderspodcastFacebook - facebook.com/scottishmurdursYouTube - @ScottishMurdersLinktree - linktr.ee/scottishmurders CREDITS:Scottish Murders is a production of https://www.cluarantonn.com/Hosted by Dawn YoungResearched and Written by Dawn YoungEdited and Produced by Erin Ferguson - instagram.com/erinfergus0n/Production Company Name by Granny RobertsonMUSIC:Dawn of the Fairies by Derek & Brandon Fiechter

The Writ Wit: A Podcast About Writing and the Creative Process
In this episode, the two Matts tell a tale of two writers at vastly different scales, have a record number of swears in the introduction that get beeped out, come up with a new name for the famous coffee shop that shall not be named for legal reasons, and talk about writing out your characters by NOT completing their arcs in the next of our set about how to write out your characters from your story. Why in the world would a writer want to leave a character's arc unfinished? How much of an explanation do you need for a character's sudden absence? Are there instances with the writer just forgot about the character? Will Matt David ever learn to not shout "I TOLD YOU SO!" while holding up a bright neon sign saying that he told you so? We discuss it all, while hoping the arc of this podcast's existence doesn't go unfinished, and talk about Ice Age, A Goofy Movie, Friends, and Clan of the Cave Bear. What an odd collection of pop culture works this week... Have any feedback or questions for our hosts? Email us at mattd@matthewdonaldcreator.com. The mystical, inward-facing order of Sufism goes back to the very beginning of the Islamic religion in the 8th century. It has parallels to the venerable traditions of Buddhist and Hindu mysticism, and aims for direct union with God by purifying the heart. The work of the Persian Sufi poet RUMI has achieved worldwide popularity for its beauty and insight, and a body of Sufi music evolved to accompany religious practices and meditation—most famously the "whirling dervishes" of the Mevlevi order in Turkey—creating a genre that's not only alive today, but producing new strains of spiritual music. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, we revisit the contemplative heart of Middle Eastern music, on a program called 'SUFI SOUL 3.' Music by ZIKR PROJECT, DHAFER YOUSSEF, ANOUAR BRAHEM, ELIYAHU SILLS, ALEX KHASKIN, MICHEL BANABILA with MEMET POLAT, ÜMLAUT, & SALAR ASID, DEREK & BRANDON FIECHTER, ABE HATHOT, and PAUL AVGERINOS & OMAR FARUK TEKBILEK. The Writ Wit: A Podcast About Writing and the Creative Process
In this episode, the two Matts deal with Matt Donald's fierce and bizarre craving for a certain Middle Eastern food, don't quite meet our writing goals for our drafts but are really, really close, come up with a decisive answer for a classic riddle, and talk about planning your plot and genre in the next of our set about pre-planning before your draft? Which comes first, the plot or the genre? How do you know the vibe of your story before you write it? Is the plot tied directly to the genre, or can you have the same plot with wildly different genres? Why is Matt David obsessed with the breasts of birds, as opposed to the breasts of other, more worthy targets? We discuss it all, having already figured out the vibe and genre of this dumb show years ago, and talk about Edge of Tomorrow, Inception, Avatar, and Age of Mythology for some reason. The Writ Wit: A Podcast About Writing and the Creative Process
In this episode, the two Matts celebrate Matt David's long-awaited return, advertise a zoo housing writers of various kinds, misspeak and dig ourselves in deep, deep holes, and talk about the suspense/thriller genre and how to write it. How many subgenres are there in the thriller genre? How can a writer build good tension? What are the ways the characters can remain constantly on the edge? What the heck is "romantic thriller" and can we please get some examples?! We discuss it all, racing down the street in a high-octane chase, and talk about the works of Michael Crichton, Tom Clancy, Dean Koontz, and Clive Cussler. (it seems a lot of suspense/thriller writers have surnames beginning with a hard "C" sound. Maybe that's the trick?) Have any feedback or questions for our hosts? The Writ Wit: A Podcast About Writing and the Creative Process
In this episode, the two Matts reminisce about school and old professors, work as masters at a plot ninja dojo, wonder about the order of the alphabet, and talk more about less mainstream works of writing with this episode about blogs and essays. What should one's mindset be when starting a blog? How should one arrange an essay? How many sources or citations should an essay have? How mad will Matt Donald's college professor be when he stumbles across this podcast and hears Donald talk about how much he hated his class? We discuss it all, with excellent, peer-reviewed quality, and talk about Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, various stand-up specials, and Matt David's incident in Japan where he contributed to the construction of a safety railing.
