We encounter them frequently as professional Black and Brown women, sometimes even daily. They're microaggressions, covert forms of discrimination that can take an emotional toll on employees who are members of historically underrepresented or marginalized groups. Microaggressions shatter our confidence, causing us to question our abilities and self-worth. In our efforts to prove ourselves, we may also face burnout. How do we overcome microaggressions and avoid burnout? How can we cultivate the resiliency to bounce back stronger when we encounter discrimination in the workplace? To find out, listen in for part 2 of my conversation with Ashley Wynn-Grimes, Founder of Cannabis Nursing Solutions, LLC and author of "Stigmatized" and the children's book "Asa's Medicine". In this episode of the Women's Vibrancy Code, Maraya chats with Ashley Wynn-Grimes, BSN, RN, a registered nurse and healthcare leader, about how to break the stigma of cannabis in medicine and explores the endocannabinoid system. Ashley highlights the importance of considering cannabis as a treatment option based on a patient's medical history and symptoms. Ashley shares her journey in healthcare and addresses the stigma surrounding cannabis and nursing solutions. She discusses the common symptoms cannabis can help with, including pain, anxiety, sleep, and menstrual cramps, as well as seizures in children. Ashley stresses the importance of finding the right cannabis strain for a patient's specific symptoms and shares her passion project, a book called "Stigmatized". Also in this episode: Lean Six Sigma is a project management ideology used to increase efficiency in healthcare settings. The endocannabinoid system is the largest neuroreceptor system in the body, responsible for balance. Cannabis is a potential option for medical treatment, to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Cannabis stigma exists and the media perpetuates false information. Educating those willing to listen can shift perspectives. Common conditions treated with cannabis include pain, sleep, anxiety, menstrual cramps, and seizures. Different strains of cannabis have varying effects, and it's important to be cautious with anxiety. Children benefit from cannabis use, particularly for seizures. A children's book promotes understanding and empathy. Her book "Stigmatized" aims to educate about cannabis in a simple and accessible way and is based on Ashley's personal journey and passion for alignment. We sat down with Ashley Wynn-Grimes, experienced RN, author, and founder of Cannabis Nursing Solutions. Before starting her own business, Ashley found herself in some “sticky situations” that led her to re-evaluate her career path, and her health as a whole. Spending time researching holistic ways to get her life back on track, Ashley found her purpose in integrative medicine and opened herself up to a world of functional, holistic healing modalities, which of course, include cannabis. Things have never been the same for her since! In 2017 Ashley started honing in on her process for using cannabis as medicine which led her to establish her business. Through Cannabis Nurse Solutions Ashley provides education on cannabis to a wide range of clients.. Not only does her course break down the stigma of cannabis use, but she also helps other nursing professionals start their own cannabis consulting businesses! To learn more about Ashley and her program visit www.cannabisnursingsolutions.com. Don't miss these moments: Crossing paths with holistic healing modalities. Addressing stigma. Creating a business out of cannabis education. Focusing on a larger purpose. What's next for Ashley's business?
Ashley Wynn-Grimes is an Author, Cannabis Advocate, and Founder of Cannabis Nursing Solutions. In this conversation, we discuss Ashley's journey as a nurse including how her disillusionment with the financial incentives behind Big Pharma led her to explore alternative healing modalities and the structure of the endocannabinoid system. We next talk about Ashley's journey as an author and writing the book Stigmatized. Then, we discuss ways for healthcare professions to research cannabis and how to obtain certifications to consult with patients on the medicine. We then consider how to optimize product offerings for patients, rather than just maximizing THC content. From there we discuss Maryland's recent legalization of adult-use cannabis, how Ashley expects her home market to develop in the coming years, and the somewhat arbitrary distinction between recreational and medical cannabis. Next, we discuss the recently approved Federal legislation on medical marijuana research and what outcomes Ashley expects to see following its passage. We end talking about Ashley's children's book Asa's Medicine. Please enjoy! Medical marijuana has been a hot topic for several years. First legalized in California in 1996, now more than two-thirds of U.S. states and the District of Columbia have legalized it for medical treatments and more are considering bills to do the same. Then in 2012 Colorado and Washington became the first two states to legalize it for recreational use, and in a similar fashion, while only 18 states currently approve it recreationally, other states are expected to do the same. But sadly healthcare has not done a great job with educating our healthcare professionals with this changing policy. How many of us fully understand the benefits and risks of cannabis? How is it consumed? How is it dosed? How does it work? What are the side effects? When should it be added to the care plan? And even for our patients using it recreationally and even sometimes illegally - how do we educate people around usage to keep them safe?In this episode Nurse Alice speaks with Ashley Wynn-Grimes BSN, RN is the Founder of Cannabis Nursing Solutions, LLC, Executive Director Of Cannabis Patient Advocacy Association. Wynn-Grimes, a registered nurse for more than 12 years, is dedicated to empowering patients and nursing professionals to make informed medical cannabis care choices with impactful educational medical programs that also serve to promote diverse representation and medical equality in cannabis.

Episode 33 AshleyAshley Wynn-Grimes had always wanted to become a nurse. Everything about her career was therefore fixed right during her high-school years when she'd decided to pursue nursing. And once she became one, she loved every bit of it. But though the desire to help and care for people remained strong even 14 years after she began her career, she started to become bored of it.When Ashley was increasingly growing bored of her job, she rejoined a previous hospital for the third time. The best thing about the hospital was that every time she joined there, she was in a period of transition. The first time, she joined as a nurse technician, the second time she joined there, she was doing her Master's, and the third time, she was transitioning into an entrepreneur. Realizing the medicinal benefits of cannabis, Ashley decided to make a full-time career educating nurses and hospitals about it, leading her to found Cannabis Nursing Solutions as a first-time entrepreneur.
