In this episode, we focused on Sims' openness about his mental health issues on LinkedIn, his struggle to get off of antidepressants, and destigmatizing conversations about mental health, especially among men. Sims also shared some tips for men who have friends struggling mentally, and how we can all do a better job supporting each other. This episode is pretty distinct from the first, and from most episodes of Self-Funded, but it was an important conversation to be had, and I hope you'll tune in.Chapters:00:00:00 Helping Each Other Through Mental Health Struggles | with Sims Tillirson00:00:32 Destigmatizing Mental Health00:03:15 How Do We Increase Access To Mental Healthcare?00:06:14 The Power of Genuine Listening00:09:54 Holistic Approach to Medication and Mental HealthcareKey Links for Social:@SelfFunded on YouTube for video versions of the podcast and much more - https://www.youtube.com/@SelfFundedListen/watch on Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/1TjmrMrkIj0qSmlwAIevKA?si=068a389925474f02Listen on Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/self-funded-with-spencer/id1566182286Follow Spencer on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/spencer-smith-self-funded/Follow Spencer on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/selffundedwithspencer/Key Words: Mental Health Awareness, Mens Mental Health, Break The Stigma, Empathetic Listening, Antidepressants, Mindfulness, Depression, Supporting Others, Alternative Therapies, sims tillirson, spencer smith, podcast, healthcare, health insurance, self funded, self funding, self funded health insurance, self funded insurance#MentalHealthAwareness #MensMentalHealth #BreakTheStigma #EmpatheticListening #Antidepressants #Mindfulness #Depression #SupportingOthers #AlternativeTherapies #simstillirson #spencersmith #podcast #healthcare #healthinsurance #selffunded #selffunding #selffundedhealthinsurance #selffundedinsurance

About Me:Michael Molthan | M2 The RockI'm Michael Molthan, host of The M2 The Rock Show—one of the fastest-growing podcasts and shows on self-improvement, mental health, addiction recovery, and spiritual transformation. I'm so grateful you're here.I started M2 The Rock in 2017 to bring you conversations designed to make you happier, healthier, and more healed. Through raw and unfiltered discussions with experts, celebrities, thought leaders, and athletes, we uncover new perspectives on personal growth, recovery, and overcoming life's toughest challenges. My Story:What sets my journey apart is that there wasn't just one rock bottom—there were many. From being a successful luxury homebuilder to falling into addiction, homelessness, crime, and eventually 27 mugshots and prison, my life was in absolute chaos.Addiction was my temporary escape from childhood trauma, but it only led to destruction. It wasn't until I hit the lowest point imaginable that I finally found true freedom, redemption, and purpose. After an unexpected early release from prison in 2017, I walked 300 miles back to Dallas to turn myself in—only to be miraculously pardoned and told to “pay it forward.”And that's exactly what I've been doing ever since. My MissionI believe that rock bottom is not the end—it's a stepping stone to something greater. My goal is to redefine what "rock bottom" means by helping others rebuild their Spirit, Mind, and Body.On M2 The Rock, I speak openly about trauma, addiction, recovery, and the power of transformation. I don't shy away from topics like:✅ Trauma & Addiction – Understanding the root causes✅ Self-Sabotage & Mental Health – Breaking negative cycles✅ Codependency & Enabling – How relationships impact recovery✅ 12-Step Programs & Spiritual Healing – Finding true freedom✅ Religious Trauma & Personal Growth – Healing from past wounds"Everyone Is An Addict."Whether it's substances, work, validation, or negative thinking, we all have something we struggle with. But recovery is possible, and transformation is real.

Welcome to Hot Topics! Gabrielle Crichlow talks to guest Lisa Parnello about Dyslexia - what is it, how to recognize it, and what to do about it.In this episode, Gabrielle and Lisa discuss dyslexia and its impact on individuals. They highlight that dyslexia is a neurological difference that affects language processing, not a vision problem. People with dyslexia struggle with connecting sounds and letters, making reading and spelling challenging. Strategies such as phonics instruction and phonemic awareness can help individuals with dyslexia become successful readers.Dyslexia can be identified through signs like difficulty with rhyming, sequencing, and spelling. While there is no single assessment for dyslexia, educational therapy can help individuals become stronger readers and provide strategies and accommodations for their learning differences. The episode emphasizes that dyslexia is common, affecting one in five individuals, including celebrities like Richard Branson and Whoopi Goldberg. It also highlights the lack of awareness and training on dyslexia in education programs, calling for additional training for teachers to effectively support students with dyslexia. The conversation between Gabrielle and Lisa covers various challenges faced by individuals with dyslexia, including behavioral issues and struggles with math word problems. They emphasize the importance of self-advocacy and accommodations, debunking the misconception that individuals with dyslexia are less intelligent. The discussion raises awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with dyslexia and provides insights into strategies and support systems that can help them succeed academically and in life.Who is Lisa Parnello?Lisa Parnello is a dyslexia expert with over 15 years of experience including public school, and private schools, with a primary focus on students with learning differences such as dyslexia, and dysgraphia. Pamela R. Browne is an experienced mental health professional with over 20 years of demonstrated success as an author, impact leader and strategist. She also is the mental health specialist on board my production team for the world premiere of my upcoming show "Diagnosed." My play “Diagnosed” addresses mental illness amongst women in the black community. The goal in writing the play "Diagnosed" is to bring awareness and hope to a taboo subject. Pamela R. Browne is an intricate part of creating an environment of self-space, breaking the stigma and promoting a women's wellness for the Diagnosed project. In this episode, we discuss why the mental health topic has been an unmentioned and uncomfortable subject in the black community for so long; how African American women are only half as likely to seek help compared to Caucasian counterparts, and much more. Pamela Browne is the author of “The Power Up Life Boss “You Got This” Journal for Intentional Living. She shares how her book is designed to transform negative thinking and increase or develop a positive mindset through self-expression and self-awareness.
